Due to family illness we’d not visited this restaurant for a couple of years, but my goodness how we’d missed it…mussels were perfect and the pork belly was to die for, the Sicilian lemon cheesecake was so light and refreshing. The whole ambience of the place is top notch and the service second to none. My daughter and I intend to visit soon, and we’ll be driving for 3 hours just to eat there.

We had a meal last night with two friends from Devon. The restaurant didn’t disappoint. The food was as always excellent and beautifully presented. Our friends thought it was one of the best they had eaten, as did we. The Maitre D couldn’t have done more to make us feel welcome. Wore a great shirt too! We never felt rushed as the waiting staff were friendly and professional. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere into which to enjoy an evening and the wonderful food. It has to be one of the best place to eat in Snowdonia. Highly recommended.

This was the first visit of my wife and I to Y Sgwar and we were very impressed indeed. For various reasons we had to phone ahead to ask to delay our booking time by half an hour, and this was no trouble at all. On arrival, the welcome was warm and we were shown straight to our table. The choice on the menu was varied and interesting which, on the one hand, made the selection difficult, but on the other, encouraged us to come back to try the options we had not picked. The meal was very tasty, beautifully-presented and subtle; what we appreciated, given that we prefer light food, was that it was not at all heavy. Overall, we felt that everything at Y Sgwar was extremely well-judged, and we look forward to returning in the not too distant future.

Oh wow, another amazing meal. This place never disappoints!! All 3 courses were excellent as was the wine. The service was spot on. Highly recommend to anyone who loves good food.

This has become a favourite of ours and definitely one of the best restaurants in the area. The Sunday roast options are lamb, beef or pork. They always have an excellent fish and veg option available. At our visit two of us went with beef, two with lamb and all superb - the cauliflower cheese was amazing. I should also mention the chicken liver pate starter and mushroom&tarragon soup which received high compliments too. The menu is excellent quality for the price you pay (set price for 1, 2 or 3 courses Sunday. You must make a reservation for this place, particularly at weekends. Highly recommended!

Came for a Sunday roast as a group of 10 adults & 2 babies, 10/10. Service was great and food was amazing. All said its the best roast we've had in a long time!

Another thoroughly enjoyable visit to Y Sgwâr, this time on a Saturday evening. As usual the food and hospitality were excellent. It was a birthday celebration, and Iolo and the waitress team made an effort to make the occasion special for us. We try to visit this restaurant whenever we are staying in the area and cannot recommend it highly enough. Many thanks to Iolo and the team. They set the high-bar for their standard of service.

We went early for 6 p.m. did feel a little rushed but they obviously catering for a big group later.

This place is so nice we went back the following evening, it was the only way we could make our minds up on what to eat. Each plate from starter to dessert was top quality. I had the best Filet steak on the first night and some delicious lamb on the second. A real hidden gem.

How wonderfully brilliant. Hadn't visited for a while and eventually made our way back. The actual inside has even changed - better even. The food was still well worth the pennies paid. We had Shtland mussels starter with toasted bread. Absoloutley tasty. Ate all and not a drop of liquid was wated. Wife wanted room for desert, so opted out of starter. The other two of our group had chicken liver paté and tempura king prawns. Not a morsel left. The mains were, duck and plum jus, pan roasted halibut, chicken supreme and belly pork. Again, every bit as delicious as the starters. I do not have deserts, but the other three had cheesecake, sticky tofee pudding. They stated that these were also delish. The waitress also added to the evening, very welcoming, happy and friendly. Diolch iti. All in all- superb evening. Loved it

We enjoyed a lovely evening at Y Sgwar celebrating my wife's 70th birthday. This restaurant has a lovely relaxed atmosphere and while the food is not inexpensive, it is well presented and tasty. An excellent place to ceklebrate the special day.

Excellent restaurant. There are 3 vegetarian main courses on the menu! Vegan options as well. The staff were very friendly. We had the parsnip Vegan soup Roasted Red pepper, spinach & squash Wellington, tender stem broccoli, skinny fries (v,vg) 18.00 Sweetcorn & leek arancini with tomato & basil sauce, skinny fries, tender stem broccoli (v, vg) 18.00 A third option which we didn’t have was Spinach, roasted vine tomatos, red onion & pesto linguini (v,vg) 16.00

First class experience from the moment we walked in . Happened by this amazing restaurant by chance when staying in Porthmadog. Mid week break so only booked a couple of hours before and I’d say we were lucky to find it . Good choice of food and everything freshly prepared , piping hot and presented beautifully . The chef needs a special mention . Our host was welcoming as soon as we arrived , chatty attentive professional and had a good sense of humour . Nothing too much trouble . I had the roast pork belly with leek and chorizo mash with crème brûlée for dessert , my partner had chicken supreme followed by sticky toffee pudding . All were amazing . A total gem of a place and will definitely be back when we are in the area . Could not fault a single thing !

My girlfriend and I came here whilst on a weekend away in Tremadog and have to say the entire place and atmosphere was amazing! The food was delicious (we are both vegetarian) and the staff were all very friendly. If we are ever in the area again we will definitely go back!

A warm welcome - we were very well looked after & had a most enjoyable evening. Staff were attentive & the food was first class with excellent presentation - the rib eye steak was really good. We would recommend Ysgwar & always take our visitors for a treat.

We booked a table for 7pm then changed it to 5.30pm for various reasons. Upon arrival we were greeted promptly and shown to a nice table. We were surprised to be offered an early bird menu in addition to the a la carte. Whilst we will generally order whatever we prefer rather than sticking to a prix fixe, the early bird menu looked excellent and therefore we chose to order from it, we did this without compromising on choice. The timing between ordering and service was perfect, all of our meals were perfect in terms of temperature, quantity, quality and presentation. The lamb was particularly good. The staff were all very friendly and the service brilliant. This is a first class restaurant which could and should charge more, certainly for the prix fixe. I am looking forward to returning.

I love eating out but very rarely do. I started training as a chef back in the 70’s in the RAF which was to a very high standard. We travel to turkey a lot and eat away from the tourist areas, with the locals. The food is generally excellent. We live in cheshire and I’m always disappointed at 90% of the restaurants we visit. We have now found this one and WOW it’s beyond amazing! As we had finished out meal we both sat in front of the fire and admitted to each other that it was the best restaurant in the UK that we’ve ever eaten in. Everything about the restaurant is special; the ambiance of the place & the staff were amazing. The food was to die for and was perfection. The tempura prawns were amazing and we couldn’t believe the size of them, & the batter was so light. Even the cheesy garlic bread was out of this world. I had a main meal of Cod with stir fried veg, noodles and a coconut sauce; again amazing. I had to leave some noodles as I wanted to make room for my trio of ice cream. We received a recommendation from Swansea if travelling around the St Madryn area to book this restaurant without fail! Well we did and we were no disappointed! Fantastic food and experience. Booked a table a couple of weeks before for our 15th anniversary, asking for the vegan menu. When we arrived we were seated promptly and explained to the vegan menu itself wasn't available but there were still most of the vegan options available, and we were told exactly what we could have. To be fair, everything apart from the tofu steak was on the menu so we were happy. I had the pesto linguine and my partner had arancini for mains. We also had tomato bruschetta starter and each had chocolate torte pudding. I can say that every dish was 10/10. So fresh, beautifully presented and full of so much flavour. Can't fault Y Sgwar at all and we'll be back sooner than later. Highly recommend. Food and service impeccable, and the atmosphere was buzzing. Booking definitely advisable.

We arrived 15 minutes late, so I was a little worried about how the staff would respond. Yol was lovely from the moment we arrived and showed exceptional service throughout. The food was incredible. Honestly, this is the best three course meal we have had for a long, long time. Perfect way to end a few nights in Porthmadog. Thank you to Yol and the other staff who were absolutely fantastic. We will definitely be back. 5 stars

I don’t usually write reviews but our meals were divine. What a great evening. The food was fabulous and the staff were happy and helpful. We are so lucky to have such a fantastic restaurant locally. We will continue to recommend it to our guests (who love it here) and will be back again ourselves. The slow roast belly pork was gorgeous and is a tricky dish to get right, however, they got it spot on and the jus was simply heaven.

We are so lucky to have such a wonderful, high quality restaurant locally. Great atmosphere, gorgeous food and great, happy staff, I had the slow roast belly pork which was divine. The jus was to die for and each course was a credit to those in the kitchen. We can see why many of our guests love eating here and we will, of course, continue to recommend it to them and will be back ourselves.

We visited Y Sgwar at the end of our holiday in North Wales for Sunday lunch. So glad that we did. The food was superb and the service excellent. I had the roast topside of beef with yorkshire pudding. My wife went for the pan fried sea bass which came with a lovely sauce. The veg was really good red cabbage, brocolli, carrots, roast potato, roasted parsnip and mash. For dessert we went for the pavlova and chocolate brownie with ice cream. Two lovely glasses of white wine to accompany the meal and coffees to finish a great meal. Diolch pawb yn Y Sgwar.

I went here for the first time, with two friends, on 30th Noivember at 6.45pm, the restaurant was busy which is always a good sign. The staff were very welcoming and we were seated near a large group of ladies who were obviously enjoying themselves and creating a good atmosphere. My meal was delicious, spring rolls for starters with an excellent dip, followed by duck breasts, beautifully cooked. The service was efficient and friendly. It was a fun evening in an extremely good restaurant.

Booked in for dinner on advice of Gareth & Jo from Hadfer Glamping and we weren't disappointed. The menus are quite varied and had options for vegans which was a refreshing change. However, there was nothing really inspiring as the vegan options featured mushrooms (not a fan) but after a chat with the waiter / manager, some suggestions were made and food ordered. I had the mussels starter with sourdough and my wife had the faux duck with hoi-sin sauce and both were excellent. Mains were smoked tofu steak in a red thai curry sauce and cod in curry sauce - again, both excellent. Finished off with a cocktail & coffee.

My family and I went for a 60th birthday celebration and really enjoyed the experience of dining here. Our party included a very fussy vegan, and this was catered for with no issue. The team on the floor were brilliant, warm and willing to joke around with our party. Two members of the party particularly enjoyed the Pink Fairy cocktail (and the banter of its creator) 🍸🍹. Thank you for a fabulous meal and experience. In addition, vegan choc torte and choc orange cheesecake were amazing!!🤩

Second visit for a roast dinner here...the restaurant was very busy but the service was impeccable...opted for the Lamb and Turkey...plentiful veg accompanied a large yorkshire pudding...perfect roast potatoes...best red cabbage ive tasted. This place is a real gem can't wait to return before Christmas.

A cute little restaurant in the square. Not far from Porthmadog and a short drive from the town. Highly recommend as the steak, service and cocktails were great.

Our new favourite restaurant in North Wales. Booked a table due to the good reviews and was not disappointed. Very unassuming exterior, cost and clean inside. We were seated in the window, which was great even if it was raining outside! Had the best and biggest scallops I've had for a starter, king scallops! Tempura prawns were also delicious. Preferred the pork belly to duck for the main. Will definitely come back as it is very reasonably priced.

Walked up here from the travel lodge after reading all the brilliant reviews and very glad I did. Food was absolutely outstanding especially the scallops and pork belly they were 12/10!! Special mentions to Madison who was especially friendly and smiley and gave me some recommendations :)

We first started going to this restaurant over ten years ago and have been coming back every year, why? Excellent service and simply great food and a varied and changing menu. However over our last three visits the menu hasn't changed , we used to look forward to the chief's flare and skill putting together amazing dishes and trying something new . portion size also seems to be suffering from shrink flation , very expensive for a fillet steak chips one field mushroom and three cherry tomatoes ,

Excellent food, atmosphere, service we cannot fault this place. Ended up eating here three times on a four day trip which says it all!! Well done chef, and your head waiter wearing the colourful shirts does your food proud, everything is no trouble, he is jolly warm and friendly, you feel he really wants to look after you, so a big well done and thank you to him!!

What a wonderful experience we had here today. We were made to feel welcome and at home by all but the gentleman who took our order was great. This has been the best Sunday Lunch that we have had outside our home for a long time. The portions were very generous, tasty and fresh ingredients and clearly a chef who understands flavours and what customers want. We had prawn cocktails, soup and chicken liver pate as starters. We couldn’t decide on which roast to have and our gentleman let us have a bit of Welsh Beef, Welsh Lamb and Pork. They were all so tender, full of flavour. The potatoes, parsnips and the mash was all first class, along with the gravy and vegetables. The Cauliflower Cheese was the best we have ever had! The only downside was there wasn’t room for dessert but this definitely justifies coming back 😂. Could not fault the place and it was a full house. Excellent Place

The service was great, the atmosphere fab, I enjoyed my meal of scallops followed by chicken supreme - the dauphinoise potatoes were delicious! However my husband didn’t enjoy the “bland” pate and the purées on the pork belly were also bland according to my son - but he loved the chocolate brownie! Overall though a good night and we’ll be back!

Very good food and service. Deceptively quiet from the outside, but a very warm welcome upon arrival. Food was quick to arrive and well presented. Between four of us, we had three different starters and four different mains. All were perfectly cooked and tasted great. Would definitely visit again, even though it was a little pricey.

I would give the restaurant 6 stars if I could. The food was amazing, friendly staff, good portion size and value for money. So good we have eaten there 2 nights in a row and going back again tonight to try something different again off...

An absolute triumph. Fantastic lamb and steaks, gorgeous cheesecake and the best sticky toffee pudding ever. Only the Welsh cheeses were a little disappointing : fridge cold and unidentified. But we would definitely return.

We were in North wales for a family holiday as a Vegan we have to be prepared before hand. My partner comes North wales for their work project every year, he had eaten in this restaurant 2 years ago, since then he was talking about it. So we ended up coming for a fancy, fine dinner. Absolutely Amazing decision. Restaurant manager and the staff were soooo kind and helpful. Thanks to chefs for the tasty food. There are not much Vegan options but the ones we chose were just so delicious. In total we ordered around 8 dishes mix of starter-main-sides and desserts. My little monkey had most of it (btw she is really difficult to please) Everything were perfect except from the one waiter(we have to mention him couple of times that we are vegan, and we had to make sure when ordering or receiving the food) he is probably new/young in the business… Other than that I would %1000000 would RECOMMEND this place.

We went here 7th September and I had the Chicken supreme in a whisky and truffle sauce, which was excellent. I couldn't fault any element of the dish. Just wished I lived nearer. Booking advised.
