I was the licensee of this pub 25 years ago, at that time it was bouncing, possibly the best pub in the town. I had been back a couple of times but had seen a decline over the years. This time was different, a remodel creating a different space seemed to have worked it's magic as the pace was busy. Indeed we had to wait 15 minutes to get in. Whether the European Championship had anything to do with it I don't know but the ale was good the clientele friendly and I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

Very hot and stuffy but good live band. Could do with good ventilation when busy.

We visit the Pentan on a regular basis for a drink. I went 1st June. Prices are good and most the staff are lovely but the bar lad with the bun is rude. I ordered 2 drinks tonight and he rang them up but I hadn’t finished my order. Instead of asking if there was anything else he shouted it aggressively twice IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE,IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE. I walked away and left my friend to finish the order. I should have said don’t shout at me I’m your customer and I don’t deserve to be spoken to like that. Ok they were busy, but it’s not the customers fault if they need more staff.

Went in for a quiet drink and was amazed to find that children were not allowed!!! Can you believe that in 2024 ?? Families beware and go to the Ruthin Castle.

Absolutely terrible. No love for the community. Don't go here to wind down and relax after work! Its the first place I have been to that kick up a fuss when you put you feet up to relaxe and enjoy a drink ! I took my shoes off after the asked me to take my feet down. Bare in mind my socks was new and feet was clean m and they stated I wasn't at home... no I wasn't but my hard earned money was good enough.... don't think your able to relaxe here !! What a horrible place

Cosy Pub reasonably priced with friendly Staff

Great traditional pub in the heart of Mold. Staff are very welcoming and the service is really good. They have a great quiz every Monday, which gets very busy. The prices are very reasonable.

This was the highlight of my experience in Wales. The people and staff were so welcoming to a person from the US with my wife. I’ll be back many many times as this is now my “home pub” even though it is thousands of miles away.

Friendly pub in Mold town center, great atmosphere, seams to be mainly local cliental enjoying a drink with other locals, large TV's everywhere with plenty of sport, prices are reasonable and fast service over the bar. I definitely recommend Y Pentan and have now become a regular visitor there.

Popped in for a drink before heading home and asked the barman for a cask ale that is amber in colour, his response was that they are all amber, so he offered me a small taster and while it was settling i explained that i don't have very good taste buds, he said well why don't you have a pint of water then? he then picked up the glass and drank it!, i didn't get his name but I'd guess that he hides his money under the soap

A proper pub with a good selection of drinks. The team here are really friendly and take pride in their cellar. Good quality guest real ales that are rotated regularly. Good atmosphere.

Watched rugby there brilliant pub

Five different meals fish pie, fish and chips, burger 4 star. Braised lamb over cooked and no sign of any mint on new pots. Fillet steak lite bites not very good at all.But this was second time order first time good. Great selection of ales good ambiance and service pretty good.

Called in last night with the family, my stepdaughter was 24 the day before. She was aggressively asked for I D. She didn't have any, and she was asked to leave. The staff were so rude. We won't be going there again.

This was an impromptu visit due to weather. I had not been in this pub for a few years due to closure. First impression!? Firstly a very warm and friendly welcome from 'Mine Host' who described the beers available with enthusiasm. Secondly a very pleasant revamp of the interior. Although my wife and I did not eat the meals looked delicious and well presented. Prices, too, of both Ales & Food were in good range. Mold deserves The Pentan. We will be back.

Wonderful pub, special dedication to local artisanal beers. Staff friendly, welcoming and tolerant of Italian impatience to switch on the grand prix. Great, warm atmosphere for 2 very out of towners. Go there and enjoy your pint! Diolch guys!

We were staying at a quiet hotel in Mold and decided to venture into town for something livelier. There was a really friendly atmosphere in here, good background music and the drinks were very cheap compared to what we're used to in Manchester. We went back again the following night and there was a live band on who were very good. I believe it's had a full refurb. They've done a good job, it ticks all the right boxes for a fun night.

Friday teatime. Hard to find a seat. Lively and happy with a range of ages enjoying the good atmosphere….it’s almost how things used to be. The staff are courteous and friendly whilst managing a very busy session. This pub is old skool, no food so wet sales all important. I’m not disappointed, the otter ale (only other place I have seen this is in the Knowle Inn, somerset) is unbelievable. Judging by the chatter and noise everyone else is enjoying theirs too! Then, ‘dub be good’ to me by beats international comes over the music system, heads are nodding and feet tapping despite the other major topic of conversation being Putin and Ukraine. I am reminded what a great country (Wales) we live in. Go Pentan! Ps…..ssshhhhhh……it’s really good value for money, better than wetherspons all day long!

Military operation to get a pint. Kicked elderly customers outside in the cold to form an orderly queue. Strange treatment of customers.

I visited here to meet friends with my 11 year old son. Upon entering I was told that children were not allowed and that is they decision of the brewery, I asked to speak with a manager to understand further why children were not allowed in at 1pm whilst the pub was empty. I was faced with a man (who it turns out was not the manager) as the manager was “upstairs” and obviously couldn’t be bothered to speak with me. The ‘relief manager’ looked like someone who should have been lying on the streets of Rhyl and not working in the hospitality industry. There are no signs anywhere saying no children, and nowhere on the internet does it say that children aren’t welcome. When I pointed this out the staff became rude and aggressive. Absolute joke of a place. The place has always been a total dump, but I’d hoped that after a refurbishment they would have actually made an effort to be a community pub and not a so called ‘sports bar’. Looks like the place will continue to cater only for those wanted to drink at midday. The Wetherspoons 1 minute away is more accommodating and will allow children to

After a recent slump involving poor staff undesirable owners and the place in need of a major refurb...it happened. Massive money invested, the place is the best pub in Mold with the beer and prices as good as it gets. This page needs updating as there is no food on offer, one minor complaint is serve coffee, its easy to make and some people enjoy one, saw at least four people ask the other day and left without parting with any money. That's bad business!

Worse experience ever. Seems to want to specialise in Belgium beer although had none on tap. Food was cooked well but lacked flavour. Owner constantly tried to pick a fight and then short changed me which seemed intentional. 0/5. Avoid.

We had an excellent gig here as Jacob's Ladder. The refurbishment of the pub is great. The stage area might be smaller than it used to be but works very well.

Whilst other local pubs spent money during lock down to offer decent facilities when reopen this place couldn't even paint the flaking walls. Home for everyone in the town on pub watch It says a lot when the first question in the weekly quiz is "What are you looking at"

Never been in before but it's lovely in there, though my Pepsi tasted weird so I don't know if the machine it comes from needs a clean but other than that completely perfect

Immaculate vibes. Had a swift one here on a Saturday afternoon and it took me back to a bygone age. I could have been in the beer garden of the Rovers Return... If the Rovers had one.

Bobbed in here for a couple pints with a mate a few times this last month. They've absolutely nailed going for a pint during these strange covid times. Friendly staff and great drinks and despite the distancing the bar and lounge still manage to keep some atmosphere... Rare for any pub following guidelines to achieve at the moment

First time at this establishment to see an old friend I hadn't seen for 20yrs, he was running the Karaoke, I couldn't get over how friendly the people were, very welcoming plus an excellent choice of ales.

A lively atmosphere & great to hear live music being played! Nice to see people dancing & enjoying themselves. Good beer, especially the real ales. Thoroughly enjoyed our evening. Such a shame the place isn't bigger as more & more people arrived it became too crowded for me. Would definitely return.

Dropped in here for a pint before dinner and was left standing with one other customer at the bar for 15 mins. Eventually the young lady came from the lounge and served me my drink. When I went to order another pint, again I was left waiting even though I could here her chatting to her mates in lounge. I shouted hello and could see her friends in the lounge pointing to me. I was completely ignored and had to wait once again. I then visited the disgusting dirty toilets and decided I was not going to eat here. Would say it is a good place for music but anything else Avoid1

In my personal opinion, its the best pub in Mold. It's in a good location right in the center, the staff are friendly and welcoming. They gave a good selection of drinks, changing real ales, lagers, bottles etc It's clean and a good size with a couple of tvs on the wall for the sport etc and they do entertainment of an evening some nights with live bands, quiz nights etc, you could definitely do alot worse for a pint
