A limited but interesting menu. Every dish is beautifully presented and cooked to perfection. Great staff as well. It was a real surprise to find such overall quality in the rural backlot of Mid Wales. We all enjoyed our meal so much that we are already making plans to visit again. In the meantime to others seeking something different in your culinary experience, make the effort to visit this restaurant The lamb was perfection, loved the crab based starter but felt the crab portion could have been larger and with some brown meat. Everyone agreed that the various potato sideplates [chips, mashed etc] were delightful.

We had a great meal at Y Talbot but it has to be said that their Caramelized Banana Cheesecake with Rum Raisin ice cream is just something else and the best dessert that we had ever had. Not even Michelin starred restaurants can compete with this amazing dessert. It is a must-to-have if visiting Y Talbot! Staff were very friendly as were the locals so we went back the following evening too.

Restaurant attached to the hotel, straight out of the 00s, complete with soundtrack. Excellently done but standard fare for mains, rib-eye (proper homemade chips), lamb and mash, decent burger. However the desserts were top drawer, very good creme bru, well done affogato and a show stopper of a banana cheese cake. Only fault was the squeaky chairs, annoying and distracting!

We came for a treat during my chemotherapy treatment. My vulnerability and being unable to eat many things on the menu could have put us in the category of awkward customers. However, nothing was too much trouble for the staff. We were able to eat separately in the Cwtch room and the chef even specially prepared a scotch egg from scratch to ensure it was cooked through - it was delicious! As a result of all of the above, we both thoroughly enjoyed our food and experience and would highly recommend it.

We are in the area on holiday and passed through the village hoping that we would spot somewhere to have lunch. We popped in here to see if they had a table available for two and a dog. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming to us and our dog throughout the visit, there is a great atmosphere, dietary requirements were well catered for and the food was exceptional!

Lovely choice for my birthday meal. The staff were very friendly and looked after us well. The food was some of the best we've had for some time. 3 quality courses with a little twist but always full of flavour. The staff even brought my dessert out singing Happy birthday, that was just the best! Many thanks, we'll be back.

We had high hopes of this restaurant, given its Michelin rating, however it unfortunately did not live up to the expectation. The crab starter was delicious but unfortunately the beef cheek starter was more like a deep fried croquette which lacked flavour and tasted dry and bland. The main of lamb was actually a shoulder, not neck as described, it was ok albeit slightly overcooked and tasteless, more seasoning required. The dauphinois was bland as was the spinach which appeared to lack any seasoning at all. My husband had the duck which was poorly presented and something we could have cooked at home. See photo. We shared the caramel banana cheesecake which was our second favourite course and was tasty. Also a nice touch for them to celebrate our mini moon with the sauce. The waitress was lovely and attentive and we cannot fault her. However, the food came out so quickly (worryingly quickly which made us think it was not cooked fresh) and we had eaten three courses in under an hour. We do not think the food deserves its Michelin rating. We do not consider we have unrealistic expectations and the price of the food was actually very competitive. However we would not return until the food has been improved in terms of flavour and presentation.

Eat here for 2 nights as part of our room package. My wife and I were joined by our friend and we all agreed that the food we eat was exceptional. The crispy beef cheek and Cardigan Bay crab and lobster consomme starters were delicious and beautifully presented. On our first night we all had the slow cooked lamb neck main course which we agreed was amazing ! Perfectly cooked and melt in the mouth. So tasty. I also very much enjoyed the dessert courses having pannacotta with poached rhubarb on the first night and Teifi Valley cheeses on night 2. The local Perl Las and Perl Wen cheeses are my absolute favourites. The table staff were very friendly and efficient. It was refreshing to see staff that seem to have had good training. They were a credit to Y Talbot.

We called in on the off chance we could get Sunday dinner and weren’t disappointed. The staff were lovely, really friendly and helpful. We ordered a chicken dinner and it was delicious. We had half a roast chicken, pigs in blankets, dauphinoise potatoes, veg and loads of gravy. Plenty of food for both of us and so reasonably priced. For pudding we chose the steamed sponge with toffee sauce and ice cream which was equally delicious. This pub is definitely worth the drive and a visit.

We had a wonderful lunch at Y Talbot. Both my lamb and my husband’s steak main were excellent - beautifully tender meat. Everything aromatic, delicious and well-balanced. Portion sizes were just right, which left room for some heavenly dessert. The service was excellent - friendly and available at just the right moments. 17/10/23 Tuesday early evening drinks We three middle aged guys from London were exploring the local area. We checked out TA to find this highly rated pub restaurant, opening at 6 according to TA. Unfortunately we only wanted a beer each as we were economising after a parking fine in Aber's Lidl car park..grrrrr. The menu looked tempting though! We arrived in Tregaron at 5:45 and wandered around on a blustery cold early evening and waited until 6. We noticed people arriving just after six and followed them in to find it was busy and all the tables were occupied or booked out! The friendly barman explained that the TA page was obviously wrong and that they had been open from 3 (I think). Both the vacant tables were booked from 7 but we explained we just wanted a beer and would be off early so he directed us to a reserved table. Three real ales (£4.50 each so quite reasonable but we live in London!) were ordered and I took them to the table where my friends had sat. They were good and tasty, no complaints there. We were toasting at 6:30. We had thought about food but as we had no table guaranteed then it would have been awkward or rushed. This was a pity as it looked interesting, was obviously highly rated and popular at reasonable prices considering its accolades. The atmosphere was good, we were off season so many locals were enjoying the space. Another room had a real log burner but that had no tables vacant when we arrived. At 6:45 a couple arrived to claim their table early, no problem, they were friendly enough and we moved to the other table graciously to finish our beers. They were joined by a long lost friend a few minutes later. By 6:48 we had finished our delicious beers and left back into the chilly air. If we had had the correct info from TA we would have arrived earlier and stayed in the real fire room. The gglmps only had the hotel details with no bar opening times. I've updated that site too with menu pics. Altogether a homely (in the British sense), friendly and reasonably priced pub with a lovely atmosphere.

We booked lunch at Y Talbot and the service was very good. We had the Scotch Egg for starter and unfortunately mine was soured in the first bite by a lump of gristle. Mains were the fish and chips and Welsh burger. Fish and burger were nice but the chips, whilst well cooked, tasted of old oil. The desserts however (Cheesecake and Panna Cotta) were absolutely divine. Service was good and pricing very reasonable.

Fabulous food; local and in season. My husband loved his confit neck of lamb so much, he is now busy trying to recreate it at home. All meals were amazing. We tasted my daughter's burger and decided it was probably the closest thing we would ever taste to the cheeseburger made by Ralph Fiennes in the film The Menu. We were so caught up in the moment, the only snap of the food I managed to get was at the very end - of my 72- hour-soaked rum and raisin ice cream. I was in heaven.

This is a lovely quite old fashioned place serving excellent food. We both had the burger. Nothing fancy, but the taste, oh the taste! Delicious and ccompanied by home made slaw and excellent chips. The Bread and Butter pudding with ice cream was tasty, quite filling, but still light. Yes, this really was lovely, flavour some and most certainly made in house. The restaurant has several dining areas and has a pleasant and civilised feel about it. We were quickly served and the menu was well selected for a range of taste preferences. The food was well above average quality and the presentation was appropriately high for a restaurant of this standard. I look at other reviews and maybe other dishes match their description, but certainly not mine. I’m local and the food here was once great, but today, simply not up to standard. The panka breaded ‘seabream’ - the breadcrumbs were superglued to whatever fish it might have been, obviously packaged, tiny portions; the chips were simply awful mostly cheap crispy bits - again never fresh handmade potatoes on site as before. The peas ok. Overall food cold. Very expensive won’t be returning until they being back freshly made good pub food. There simply is no excuse for not having good seasonal fresh produce, well cooked. They have before, just no idea why the quality was so awful tonight. However, unlike other reviews the staff were very kind and lovely and the setting is a lovely pub, just not good food at all.

We had booked into the hotel (see separate review) so that we could enjoy our anniversary dinner at this chosen restaurant, having had a couple of excellent meals here before. We arrived at our chosen time and were greeted by our friendly server who showed us to our table and took our drinks order. These were prompt to table and we were able to place our meal and wine orders. The starters were only moments behind the bottle of red wine we had selected, which did us both very well with our chosen meals (lamb and venison respectively). I started with the pate and my partner started with the crab. Both were quite delicious, really well presented, plentiful in quantity and excellent in quality. The restaurant was now getting busier and extra servers were coming in to help. Our mains were soon to table and were both beautifully presented, cooked exactly to our directions and really were "melt in the mouth" treats. Mains finished, we turned our attention to desserts and both elected for the banana cheesecake - which was another tastebud treat. In summary : A most plentiful sufficiency of first class food, really well prepared and very carefully presented. Thoroughly recommended.

I wandered into the main hotel, and around the bar area looking for someone from whom to order food. Eventually I was directed to a side door that lead to a function room that was operating as a temporary restaurant/bar meal area. After this it all went well - friendly staff, quick and efficient service - but more importantly nice beer and tasty food. After all the good things we have been told about the Talbot, it was a little underwhelming. The matradee was not there to seat us we had to find her, the other two couples that arrived had to do the same so it was not the best of starts. A young girl sat us at our table and offered us the menus and asked if we would like drinks. We then ordered starters duck rillettes and a scotch egg, for mains Lemon sole and this was repeated as there was other fish dishes and a steak with a sauce. The starters arrived and the duck with the piccalilli was to my taste excellent! The Scotch egg was a little dry could have done with some salad and perhaps piccalilli. The mains was next the steak arrived for the wife and it was very good the fish arrived and I looked and thought this is not correct but I had a prod from the wife to say its ok eat it!! So when it comes time for desert I checked on the menu and said to the young girl the fish I had was the plaice not the sole to which she replied I am sorry so we ordered a desert between the two of us and we asked the matradee to come over to see what had happened and she apologized and offered to give us a desert and coffee in the price but it did not detract from the fact I did not get what I asked for and there was obviously a lack of training and she was a little too familiar not as professional as I would expect! However it was not a bad evening it was just not what we aspired to.We will return soon and hopefully it was just one of them days.

Having eaten at the refurbished Talbot several times over the last few months, I can say that it is reliably good. Varied menu with a vegan offering too, which is often hard to find. Food well presented and portions good. Only small criticism is that it is a little on the pricey side but worth it to sit next to an open fire. The main bar is dog friendly, so just the thing if you have been out for a walk in the glorious countryside nearby.

We arrived here for lunch with friends. The beer garden is nice and in the sunshine. The service was very friendly and quick and the food very nice indeed. The chips are some of the best I have had! My only criticism is that the starters/light meals are a little bit on the expensive side, but we would eat here again if in the area

Stayed at this place during July, not a single whinge about anything. Breakfast, local beer and cider, dinner all good.

Visited for evening food, as we were in the area. There is parking very near by, and a local shop also.

Our table was in the restaurant part of the pub so it was quieter. The food was delicious and well presented. The service was also good.

Ate here twice recently as part of a large group on a walking holiday. The food and service were very good. My only criticism is that I had pre-ordered on both occasions and on both my pre-ordered starter of crab was not available, and I was not told until I had arrived. In fact, if I had not been part of a group and reliant on others for transport , that would have been enough for me to have walked away. Whilst I was disappointed the main course of plaice first visit and gammon second visit were very good.

We came as a family for a mid week lunch time treat and it definitely didn't disappoint. The food was well priced, especially for the sizes of the portions and I finally found a vegetarian burger that wasn't full of spice! There was a really handy area with children's toys and plenty of high chairs if needed. The facilities were also great for changing and toilets clean etc. So all round it was just what we needed and the staff were all really helpful. Would definitely recommend.

Visited here a few times on our holiday in Tregaron. Mainly for drinks but one night we dined. The food was very good. I had the gammon which was a huge portion. My friend had the burger which she said was lovely. Very welcoming and friendly staff too. Also dog friendly.

Had a lovely meal with my sister. We both had a burger (one was the vegetarian option which was very tasty) but was amazed that even though it says on the menu that they can cater for dietary needs, they couldn't this time.

Visited on a week day lunchtime. Lady who served behind the bar and took the food order was lovely and very welcoming. We ordered the home made burgers with home made chips. This was delivered to our table by a very curt and miserable lady. The burgers were very dry and we had expected home made chips as advertised but that isn't what we got - these chips had only seen the inside of a packet! For the price it would have been nice to have had may be a side salad or coleslaw. Shame as a lovely pub, very welcoming bar staff let down by miserable waitress and poor quality of food.

These guys offer original dishes as well as traditional fayre. The prices are as one would expect to pay for quality food but are worth every penny. My Chef partner and I are very critical of food and would happily recommend this venue.

Excellent three course lunch at The Talbot today. The food was of a quality and standard far superior to most places in Swansea. Would thoroughly recommend it for lunch.

We booked this as a mother’s day meal but for a Saturday night, well in advance. On arriving we were shown to dinning area and then taken back to reception area and asked to sit down, no drinks offered. After a few minutes a waitress comes in saying there is a wait on the table (which we had booked) would we like to look at menus and wait or she could set up a table in the meeting room! We looked at menus and waited, still no drinks offered. After around 10mins she comes back and says the table is going to be a while and we’re probably better to eat in the meeting room. At this point I complained that this wasn’t really acceptable as we had booked well in advance and what were they going to offer as compensation. She disappeared again to talk to the manager and returned with the compensation of free starters or deserts. She then took us to the meeting room and laid up the table in front of us, still no drinks offered. At this point two of us just decided to go to the bar and get out own. Following this terrible start I actually can’t fault the food, I had scallops, followed by lamb and I can honestly say it was one of the nicest lamb dishes I’ve ever had. We did get offered drinks once our first round was finished and our starters were taken off the bill without complaint. Staff were polite following this but I really feel that the whole situation was handled badly and I think we should have been offered something as compensation rather than having to ask.

This is an excellent hotel set within a village atmosphere , we beautiful countryside surrounding it. The village also has several small shops with an excellent butcher called Gary Jones; from whom we bought lots of meat

The bar was busy so we had the restaurant to ourselves. The waitress was very attentive....so thanks to her, and also the manageress. Our meals were delicious and piping hot - shepherd's pie and fish and chips. My dessert was most refreshing - elderflower jelly, summer fruits and sorbet We had an interesting conversation with the manageress about the famous first and limited edition book about the history of Tregaron. Sadly, at the moment, it is not available online to purchase. It's like looking for gold dust to try to find a copy. I hope that the manageress is able to buy a copy soon as it will add to her knowledge of Tregaron of which The Talbot has been part of the history for so many years.

Going to be brutal here. The Welsh are not always great at putting on a good show (and before readers rise in revolt, I am Welsh myself). So it is with great pleasure that I can report a fantastic venue in Wales that takes advantage of a lovely town with a market for passers through like us. Unlike its big neighbour Aberystwyth (which frankly is grimy) this is a nice place with "The Talbot" right in its main square.

We had a wonderful stay at The Cliff Hotel and Spa! The views of the ocean from the balcony were absolutely stunning, providing a perfect backdrop for relaxation. The hotel itself was blending modern comforts with a warm inviting atmosphere. The spa services were exceptional, offering a range of treatments that left me feeling rejuvenated and refreshed especially the jacuzzi . We also had a walk around the cliff and took some amazing pictures. The staff were friendly and attentive, ensuring that all my needs were met. Overall, it was a fantastic getaway, and I would highly recommend The Cliff Hotel and Spa to anyone looking for a peaceful retreat!

Came for Sunday lunch on 3rd November and the food and service was outstanding. We had 3 courses and each course was lovely. The beef and salmon were perfectly cooked and the staff couldn’t be more helpful. The atmosphere was great and we’re looking forward to our next visit very very soon.

We went for Sunday lunch. There was Pork loin or Beef to choose from. We chose pork and it was lovely. There were 7 side vegetables, all beautifully cooked also Apple sauce and gravy. For desert there was a large choice. I chose the home made meringues with summer fruits and whipped cream. The meringues were crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. They were beautiful as they were not too sweet and the fruit and cream complemented the meringues very well. My husband chose the home made apple flan with ice cream and that was also very much enjoyed. The staff are very welcoming and we will certainly be back. Thank you.
