This cafe is picture perfect & if my memory is correct dates back to 13th Century. It is right in the centre of Aberdaron with lots of outdoor seating. We had a dog with us, so sat outside. Tables & seating are getting to the point that they could do with a bit of refurbishment. We had a coffee, cold brink & Bakewell tart. All were good & would revisit.

Had a lovely relaxing family lunch here at the Gegin Fawr sat outside in the sun. Our party chose a variety of different sandwiches which were generously filled and served with a fresh salad garnish, cous cous, coleslaw and crisps which i wasn't expecting. These lovely extras made our lunch more filling, tasty and value for money. Two of our party tried the fresh locally caught crab sandwiches which they really enjoyed before we moved on to the icecream parlour next door (Gegin Fach) to indulge in locally made icecreams again in the sun but sheltered from the wind. We all really enjoyed our visit to this quaint historical cafe. Everyone in our party gave our experience a 10 out of 10. Service was swift and friendly in both places.

It’s taken us too long to eat here. Sat in the outdoor sun trap and had fantastic food and service. The crab sandwich was excellent. Local whole meal bread. Nice side salad and crisps with it. Lovely raspberry lemonade to wash it down. Followed it with dark chocolate and pecan flapjack. Real burst of flavour - would go back for this alone. Team were v friendly all the way through. Oh and if you leave out little crumbs you get the local sparrows swooping in for them.

Ok welcome nothing special really, went upstairs very tight area, very cold too. Ordered our breakfast and wanted crispy bacon which hey did say they would try. Well hat wasn’t on he cards I would say it was barely cooked it wasn’t even warm. Actually none of our food was. The hot chocolate I must admit was very hot. It was a very average breakfast and one I wouldn’t be in a rush to return

This cafe has been very nice in the past when we have eaten here, but today's visit wasn't one that would have me rushing back in a hurry. We had to eat inside at the top of some rickety old wooden stairs as the pleasant outdoor elevated patio was closed, and there was very limited headroom. No condiments, no cutlery, not even salt and pepper, just bare tables. When we asked where the cutlery was when our food was served we were told we had to go back downstairs to get it ourselves. Lattes were served first, with a long spoon stuck in them, but no saucer to put the spoon on. We don't use sugar, but there was none on the tables, and we weren't offered any. Food average. The jacket potato I had, whilst nicely cooked, was probably the smallest I've ever been served, and if the meals are suppose to come with a side salad I'd expect a bit more than just a tablespoon of very finally chopped tastless, not very fresh ingredients. I know times have been tough, but a bit of attention to detail would be an improvement. Setting out the tables to look more inviting would be a start, as would not expecting customers to keep going up and and down the stairs. There seemed to be one member of staff doing almost everything so perhaps a staffing problem too which won't help.

Cool little cafe in Aberdaron. Stopped in spontaneously for lunch while briefly in the village. Good sandwich, good coffee (although not as hot as I'd like, but nowhere seems to serve coffee hot enough for me). We sat upstairs in the eaves and were the only people up there which felt odd, but we were rather late and there were quite a few people sitting outside (we were taking a break from the sun). The toilet was an outhouse with a clear corrugated plastic rough which felt odd and it was super hot in there. (On the day we were there, the cistern was dripping which left the floor wet, but I suspect that's been sorted by now.) Be warned: the stairs are steep and the ceilings very low! I wouldn't go all the way to Aberdaron just to visit this place, but if you are in Aberdaron, you should go here.

Wanted a vegeterian cooked breakfast, but told they only do meat breakfasts. Instead we had the choice of scrambled egg on toast or fried egg, with baked beans and or tomato. No mushrooms or hash browns avilable. The scrambled egg was tasteless and the toast was dry and cardboard like. Beans had little flavour. The fried eggs, one was overdone and the other underdone. The coffee tasted like it had been stewing for hours. I suppose they dont have to try too hard when they're only catering for tourists, that's how it seemed anyway.

We called in after a breezy walk on the beach, the place was sheltered from the wind and we were all looking forward to a coffee and cake. We ordered 2 Americano’s and a traybake brownie. The coffees arrived and straight away I thought they looked weak, they looked more like tea than coffee. Added a splash of milk and they were so pale. Tasted it and it didn’t even taste of coffee, like a pale brown tasteless liquid!! Then the tray bake for some reason (without asking) was heated up in the microwave, so ended up a bit soggy! Who does this?? Overall it was really disappointing, I didn’t drink my coffee and left most of the brownie. We went and got a coffee elsewhere on the way back. Such a shame as it’s a lovely location. I don’t know whether it’s lack of training or trying to cost cut, but whoever makes the coffee needs to sort it out.

Popped in this morning with my friend who came to visit me in Pwllheli and wanted to show her beautiful Wales so we came down to Aberdaron which was super sunny but blowing a gail!! The location of this cafe meant we were in the sheltered sun trap so had a lovely bask in the sun with our breakfast baps and cappuccinos! My only suggestion would be to have some gluten free bread in the freezer and maybe some dairy free milk but I do understand being in such a remote location there may not be a massive call for it.... Service was prompt and friendly, I will defo be back :-)

My partner and I visited Aberdarron and favoured a coffee after looking around the small village. We went into Y Gign Fawr and ordered a Mocha and an Americano. I wouldn't say I'm a coffianado but I love the aroma and deep taste of coffee. My coffee looked like tea and didn't smell of anything. I could not smell a bean of coffee. I took a sip and I could not taste any coffee. It was literally hot tasteless liquid. I called the waitress over and informed her I didn't liked my drink and wanted a refund. So she took my drink away and 'the manager' who served me came over with the £2.50 I paid, put it on the table and she said I was the only person who had ever complained about their locally roasted coffee and stormed off. The customer service was appalling on top of the worst coffee I'd ever been served. If that is how 'the manager' behaves, when a customer complaints, she obviously needs training. I should add that my partner's Mocha was not a Mocha. It was a hot powdery very sweet chocolate drink. Again, not a hint of coffee could we taste. My partner could not drink her 'Mocha' and so we both left in disgust. I could not possibly recommend this place run by amateurs.

The food was pretty average and nothing bad about it but for the price you'd want is abit better quality in terms of the sausages and hash browns. It was somewhere we wanted to visit as my Nain used to stay and work here as a teenager decade's ago and the place is very quiant and full of history, however upstairs needed a it of a hoovering and cleaning.

In a historic building at the heart of this beautiful village, the traditional Welsh food was perfect for a summer day. No crab sandwiches - word must have got out - but the dressed crab was super and the Welsh rarebit even better. The cakes looked great too, and there is a little ice cream shop next door (not clear if it was part of the same business) that was also tempting. Service friendly and quick on a busy day, and (as with pretty much the whole peninsula) Covid precautions keep people safe.

We visited this marvellous little cafe on a recent visit to Aberdaron. It is a traditional Welsh cafe that is steeped in history. We sat outside in the sunshine but there are ample tables both indoors and outdoors, whichever takes your fancy. We ordered a tuna melt panini and Welsh rarebit with extra bacon. Both were packed full of the most delicious, strong Welsh cheddar and served with a generous side salad that was fresh and very tasty. Service was quite slow but what do you expect during a very busy holiday period? It just helped us to relax and take in the sea air and surrounding views. This is a must visit if you’re in the area.

If the weather is good, this is a lovely, characterful place to sit outdoors and enjoy the surroundings as you eat your lunch. Signs inform you that the building dates from 1300 when it was a communal kitchen where pilgrims could rest and eat before crossing to the island of Bardsey. The lunches we ordered were great - they came out quickly, were generous portions with fresh tasty ingredients. I ordered coronation chicken sandwiches - 4 sandwiches came out with a colourful salad. My husband ordered a panini and that was also a success. It began to rain and we needed to finish our lunch indoors, which doesn’t have the same appeal being a bit cluttered and unloved. But if you can get an outdoor table here, it’s a great option.

Once again, we visited this restaurant for a cream tea and once again, it was top draw! The surroundings are pleasant, the staff are friendly, polite and welcoming and the food is top quality. I would definitely recommend the cream tea with Bara Brith, delicious....

Tuvimos una merienda, que era muy bueno. El servicio era amable y rápido. Anteriormente vimos un montón de gente teniendo un desayuno inglés completo. Los asientos al aire libre es el único lugar para ser especialmente cuando hace sol.

This is a tiny place, all whitewash and black wooden beams. There is seating both inside and outside. It caters mainly for snacks, sandwiches most ways you can think of and all types of cakes and pastries. The coffee is excellent and I am really picky when it comes to coffee. Their Bara Brith (Eng: Speckled Bread) is a fruity raised dough-type bread, sweet and sticky with fruit and gentle spice. Theirs was probably the best I have tried.

The electric bell to call someone from the café to serve ice cream was somewhat slow and not overly reliable as the bell could not be heard from the café, but we enjoyed the ice cream and it was worth the wait. We did not eat there however.

We went with my small child last week. Ordered coffee and a sandwich. Must have been 20 mins before we got our drinks. They said they like to bring everything out together. Surely, drinks come first??

Quaint old place. Friendly staff. Excellent food, I'd go there again . We had a ice cream later next door and that was good too (it was part of the same place)

Popped in here after walking in the area. A nice friendly welcome and we both chose a cream tea.We sat outside in brilliant sunshine (picking up free wi-fi from the shop opposite). The tea soon came and we were told that since the barra bread loaf was near the end of the loaf, they also included a welsh cake free of charge. The slice of barra bread that we both had was generous, so I felt this was very good of them. Plenty of tea and hot water - we each got 3 cups and all for £4.95 each - excellent value and will visit again.

This is a lovely cafe with an ice cream shop attached called Siop Ken. The ice cream is from a local farm and is delicious. They had about twelve varieties and you can sit inside or outside the cafe to eat it. The woman in the shop was very friendly and gave me a taste before I decided.

We called in for a Tuna Mayo jacket potato and a drink. Out of season there is not much atmosphere but the place is inviting and friendly. Food was good, the jacket potato served with a nice fresh salad. Service with a smile. We returned later for cake and coffee which was just as good.

We've been coming here for years when visiting this lovely quaint village. The food if tasty, fresh and reasonably priced. We sat outside watching the world go by and didn't want to leave. I look forward to coming back next year.

Lovely old fashioned cafe - 700 years old ! - in the heart of Aberdeen. The original travelers stop on the pilgrimage to Bardsey Island. Tea in a pot, cream teas, sandwiches, English breakfasts they have it covered, great quality local produce served with a smile.

Called in for coffee and cakes. Took ages to be served but staff were pleasant. We sat upstairs and appreciated the heating being on as it was a cold day. The coffee was weak and we only drank it to warm us up. My dad’s iced bun was more like a rock cake. The bara brith we bought to take home was the worst we’ve ever had. Completely dry and tasteless. Best thing about this place was the clean loo. Would not return.

A wonderful find - such a great restaurant! The menu is small but wow; the choices are fantastic. The coconut chicken was perfect, roast potatoes were delicious and the beautifully cooked. As a coeliac and dairy intolerant - would definitely recommend.

A thoroughly enjoyable evening. We started with a drink on the terrace and we were given the option of eating out there too and we did. A beautiful view and a perfect spot to watch the sunset .Definitely planning on returning.

Home cooked food very nice and very reasonable prices. Been twice now and intend to go again this week. Worth a little wait as everything cooked from scratch
