After a hard day hiking was great to have a drink in a relaxed friendly bar. Staff excellent good background music Going back next week as we saw the menu good value

I wouldn’t recommend Charcoal tasting burnt burger served as a kids meal, mass produced frozen fish goujons for the other. No pride in the food served it does make me wonder if the person cooking the meals was trained. Was a bad experience for us the quality was poor, the standard of the food was Witherspoon’s meal deal standards but at inflated prices. Staff also changed to having conversations in Welsh in front of customers once they knew they were not Welsh. I enquired about a dessert, a piece of cake that needed cutting and plating up and was told it would take 25mins to be served it. Reason for this was a table of 11 had just arrived. Wait so that means existing customers just get ignored wow. Find somewhere more welcoming that has pride in the service it is delivering would be my advice. 3/10 experience for us as a family unfortunately

Excellent all round – best burgers we’ve ever had - meal was absolutely delicious. Friendly staff, lovely, warm atmosphere – and dogs very welcome. Definitely a must on our Wales ‘where to eat’ list!

Had a fantastic meal, the cheesecake was amazing, and the service wasn't just good it was service with a smile and as someone who works in the trade I know how hard that can be at time's ,if you are in the area make sure you stop off for a drink or a meal 😀

What a great place! We are a large group of 10 with 2 gluten free and 3 vegetarians (awkward). Called with less than half an hour to try and get booked in and oh my goodness did they look after us. The staff were top notch, the atmosphere was lovely they made us and the little ones feel at home and then to top it off, amazing food. I had gf burger and chips and wish I lived locally so I could eat here more. If you are thinking about it, just go for it you will not regret it.

What an absolute little gem. We were not sure if this was a locals only place, but we took the risk and glad we did. Really friendly people and top notch food (we have gluten free and veggies in our group of 10). We called with 30 mins notice and were so looked after I couldn't believe it. Now I need to go back and try other things I liked the look of on the menu.

We had lovely meal the food was fresh and delicious! The staff were very accommodating and friendly. We would definitely recommend!

Local pub for local people, when we arrived the qualifying for the British GP was on so I bought some drinks and we started to watch it but with only five minutes to go someone changed channels to the Irish rugby match, it had been my plan for us to return for an evening meal but decided to try other venues where we felt welcome.

Awesome food, felt very welcome from the owner who had visited NZ.

Really warm Welsh welcome from the staff at this lovely village pub. Ordered the burgers which were home made and out of this world. The manager was really friendly and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome along with dog treats and water for our Spaniel. Definitely will go back.

Excellent dining experience. The food was very good - specialising in burgers, pizzas and loaded fries, with lots of variety in those options and a great kids menu. The service was friendly and professional, lovely that some staff members spoke Welsh. The atmosphere was of a friendly village pub well supported by its locals, and I was pleasantly surprised by the choice of drinks available (rarely able to find my favourite Barti rum!). Stopped for a late Sunday Lunch on our way home from Harlech and will definitely be back, warm welcome from the landlord and amazing roast beef dinner! Beef cooked to perfection, we were told that they usually serve it pink and we’re given the option of it being cooked for longer (which we declined) and it was beautiful, lots of food, crispy roast potatoes, fluffy inside. Great selection of veg, again perfectly cooked and The Yorkshire pudding and gravy were amazing!! Great service and very well priced.

Someone recommend your pub and we were not disappointed. There was my husband, myself and our grandson in our group. Lovely welcome on arrival and very prompt service from the waitress. The chef came and double checked our order before making the food and it was very tasty. He was also really friendly and welcoming. An absolute 10stars if we could. We would definitely return if staying in the area again!

12/10/23. Staying in Harlech we decided to look for somewhere close by for meal and we found, then booked the Ship Aground, and so glad we did, it's a gem. The service, the meals, the beer and wine were all perfect for us. If we weren't going home tomorrow we would be there again for another meal. Excellent place to eat.

Such a welcoming pub. Called ahead to ask if dogs were allowed and book a table, when we got there they'd been kind enough to out a bowl of water and some dog treats on the table. Sunday roast was delicious, butty bach was well kept and every single member of staff was lovely. Would definitely go back and heartily recommend.

Friendly and cozy with great food. Exactly what a pub should be and I highly recommend it. Try the horseradish mashed potatoes with your meal, absolutely delicious.

Little village pub, not many in there. Low score on Atmos due to one guy talking Welsh with his buds when he knew we were English. He had previously been speaking English. But after he went the remainers were v friendly. Hey ho

We went for Sunday lunch and it was really good. Both the lamb and beef were well cooked, but not too well done. Tasty roasties, lots of different veg, big Yorkshire pud, and lots of gravy. The chef and waitress were very attentive and the restaurant is smart, modern and comfortable. Recommended.

Gorgeous, tasty, freshly home cooked food. The staff very attentive to our every needs. I'm a bit of a picky eater and generally struggle when eating out as I don't eat carbs. The chef paid me a personal visit, enquired what my likes and dislikes were liked then made me a then suggested some options. My meal was gorgeous. I enjoyed it so much, that we went back the following night and will definately go back again when we are back in the area.

I’m a coeliac and as soon as we arrived, the chef came to talk me through the menu and was extremely accommodating. To my surprise, almost everything could be adapted to be gluten-free. He was very knowledgeable about cross-contamination which is normally a nightmare when eating out. We had a brilliant meal - excellent service and would certainly recommend to everyone!

On our Holidays so restaurant for a few nights., food fabulous. We got a recommendation from our camp site and wasn't disappointed. Great chips and the burgers cooked to Perfection.

This spot was quite remote as the only pub in the village. We went on a sunday night when only pizza's were on. The staff weren't very attentive, however the pub was very clean and tidy. The food was average priced but not of a high quality. I probably wouldn't eat here again on a sunday, but would definitely come back to try their food on a weekday.

Stopped off here on the back of reviewing, I was not disappointed the meals (steak) was excellent and the staff very nice. Steaks were cooked to request medium and a medium rare all take with a Malbec wine. I would certainly stop here again when in the area and strongly recommend.

It was okay - however, my parmesan chicken was just a huge chicken goujon, and our crumble seemed like microwaved tinned berries with bread crumbs piled on top. My partners steak and ale pie, however, was great - horseradish mash was also a lovely combination I haven't experienced before. My expectations were high, and we were recommended the place by the people we were staying with. However- my partner and I feel that the reviews are likely only so good because they're the only place in the village. We were passing through for 2 nights, and honestly, it wasn't the best meal we've had. The service was fast, and the food was correct - we were seated quickly once we found someone to help us and served properly. However, we felt like outsiders. The atmosphere was not welcoming - you walk in, and you're greeted with strange looks from local men at the bar that you have to squish through to get to a table. There was no seating system, and the whole restaurant felt like it was built for locals with local knowledge only.

We had a great meal at Ship Aground today. Excellent service from friendly staff. The menu had lots of choice and the food was great. Highly recommend for a family pub lunch.

Dined there one evening worst possible burger for me and ok pie for the missus food menu pricing similar to nearby grape hotel (which I gave 5* to) need to do better

The most amazing food I have tasted in a long time. Good fresh food, real roast potatoes, good selection of fresh veg. Served with friendly pleasant staff. The chef was extremely passionate about his food and boy it shows. Beautiful. Will def return and recommend to all we know who holiday in the area. Excellent. 5 stars isn't enough 100 would be more appropriate

We are visiting from New Zealand, staying locally for a few days, catching up with family & friends we have not seen for many years … ate here twice because it was so good! Knocked the socks off other places we have eaten at in the 2 weeks we have been in the UK… varied menu, the Caesar’s salad one of the nicest I have ever had - full marks to the chef! The publican (Iwan) & some of the locals we met were most convivial, thoroughly enjoyed the friendly atmosphere & great food - we will be back!

We had a lovely week staying at Cefyn Gwen. The Ship Aground was a 2 mile walk away on the Welsh Coastal Path and became our local. The staff and all the punters were so welcoming. We loved the Nokota beer. Chef Colin makes a wonderful homemade bread. His food is beautifully cooked and well presented. We loved the seafood platter, the calamari and mussels. My grilled salmon was cooked to perfection. On our last day we called in at 10am for a cooked breakfast. Smashing. Hope to see you guys again. You’re doing a grand job.

Five mins walk from estuary Lodge where we stayed, great beer and food, very welcoming.

Had an evening meal here whilst camping nearby, lovely sausage and mash! Then breakfast on two mornings ( open 10-12 Thurs to sat). Lovely generous portions, friendly staff and reasonable prices.

What a beautiful little pub! We visited here during our week long stay in Talsarnau and honestly wish we’d have found it earlier. Food was amazing, drinks are reasonably priced for a small pub, and the staff are incredibly friendly. Although I’m not a dog owner myself, I do adore animals so the bowl of dog biscuits on the bar is also a lovely little touch. We wish we could have stayed longer but had to get back for an early morning the next day. Would definitely visit again

Looking for somewhere to have a main meal rather than a snack we stopped at the Ship Aground and we're glad we did. Very dog friendly, our 2 dogs got a treat each as well as scratches and a "helo" before we'd even sat down. Although the menu for lunch was limited with choice, the food we ordered was wonderful. The homemade cream of vegetable soup with a large slice of homemade focaccia bread was tasty leaving space for dessert. Mum ordered the garlic breaded chicken breast with wedges and greek salad. The chicken was large, boneless, & moist, the salad came with feta, chopped green olives, cucumber, peppers, red onion, and not a lettuce leaf in sight; heaven for mum. We asked for a sausage to split between the 2 dogs and we got a dishful. Dessert was sticky toffee pudding with ice cream for mum (who loves STP), who said it was the lightest pudding with a not-too-sweet toffee sauce, the best she'd tasted. I had the forest fruit creme brulee which was wonderful. Again, sharp fruit, not too sweet with a bitter, crisp, sugar lid. All homemade by the chef. We will be visiting again as it was great food, friendly staff and reasonably priced.

Stopped for food yesterday with 2 pals on the way to hollyhead. We were told by the guys serving they didn't have a big selection of food and only really had pizzas. We ordered 3 pizzas and three drinks. The drinks were served in glass bottles of Coke with no glass or ice so we drank from the bottle. The food came out to say we were disappointed was an understatement, The pizza base tasteds like cardboard, and the sauce was slimy. Chips where rock hard on the inside but cremated on the outside. We were so hungry that we forced some of the pizza into us and where polite and left. But seriously if you can't even cook a chip or put a frozen pizza into the oven then you shouldn't be serving food, In hindsight I shouldn't have paid. Terrible food 0⭐

Loved my first visit here while staying in the area on holiday.

We found this pub whilst on holiday. Initially it was a stop off for food. The menu looked like traditional pub grub. But we were so wrong. The food was excellent, well cooked with pride and local fresh produce. The service was excellent, warm and friendly and a good array of beers. The atmosphere and welcome of the landlord and locals made us stay all night. We would thoroughly recommend if your in the area to pay this pub a visit.

Nice welcome and prompt service - decent little selection of wines to run with an appealing choice on the menu, Tasty food & speaking to the Chef & owner - they're trying hard and at this rate will definitely do increasingly well.

Quite a limited and simple menu but vegetarian/vegan choice incredibly poor/boring. Okay value for money, waitress was very good/attentive but overall wouldn’t hurry back.

The landlord is running a very good cellar.the ales are spot on.the food is always plentiful, fresh and tasty.very reasonable prices as well.the staff and the local customers always make visitors feel welcome.93 covers on a Sunday lunch in three hours says it all.we love calling in for a pint or two when dog walking (dogs most welcome)as well as a Sunday lunch. I recommend that you book your place.there was no food left at 3pm one day,we were too late and had not reserved our lunch. We always book in now .

Great local pub. Found this place as arrived early for a accommodation that was a couple of miles away. Came back for dinner few days later. Was welcomed with open arms even with our dog. We had burgers. Very tasty. Staff and management were fantastic...

Found this pub whilst waiting to enter our rented property. Great place, so friendly and welcoming. Bringing in our dog was no issue. Even has dog treats on the bar. Manager and staff were all great, friendly, chatty and most of all very welcoming. Can't praise them enough. Came back few days later for some good food. And then returned to watch a football match the next evening. Had a really good night with all the local people. Some good banter in there. I really miss these type of pubs. Long may it continue to stay this way. All in all I highly recommend a visit when staying in area. Thanks all to staff and its public.

We've had a couple of really nice meals here recently. The steak & ale pie was delicious An added bonus for us was we could bring our dog out with us. Will definitely be returning very soon.

Lovely place, really nice fellow was good with my autistic grandson and his sister. Friendly, pleasant and atmosphere was relaxing and peaceful.

Been coming here since the 1970s and it has changed quite a bit during this period of time. Last visited in 2019 and had an evening meal which was fantastic value. Well worth the visit.

Amazing! Went for a family birthday, fantastic food, 18 people can't be wrong. Menu, food and service exceptional, after the meal we went through to the bar, greeted by Iwan and Tom the friendly landlord's, good laugh with the locals. For a small village pub just Amazing 👏

We had an excellent Sunday lunch, the portions were generous and reasonably priced. The staff were friendly and helpful and the bar is dog friendly too 🐾 Thank you for making us so welcome, we will be returning.

Staying nearby on holiday so took the opportunity to visit. The new landlord is trying hard to improve the place and is helpful and friendly. There were two real ales on offer and it's open from midday which is great. Food is limited to evenings on some days. Unfortunately we weren't terribly impressed with the food. There wasn't enough of it although it was cooked well. We also thought that serving the meals on plastic trays with greaseproof paper was rather down-market and rather reminiscent of a fast food joint. Staff were attentive to our comments however. We wish them well for the future.

Well priced Sunday lunch with all bases covered. Disappointed to be told that there was more gravy available on one of the tables around about and service was slow. We were never offered a dessert and the bill took 20 minutes to arrive once requested but the generous portion of lunch made up for it.

We visited here for drinks when staying at a local campsite this week. The gorgeous welsh marmalade gin, Madri (and Scampi fries!) and the friendly staff had us returning a second night to try the food. We had the Korean burger and it was really good. The staff were really helpful and the locals were lovely too. Wish this was my local in Yorkshire. Thanks for looking after us.

We were staying locally and, after a long journey, found the Ship Aground was a short stroll from our holiday home. We popped in for a pint and the bar man was extremely welcoming and friendly and pointed out their food service times. We went back for a meal a few evenings later and, despite the restaurant being quite busy ,we were served quickly and food was great.. kind of standard pub burger but great value and quality and all served with a smile! Good luck to the new owners ( I understand that it has recently changed hands). If we are back in the area next year we will certainly stop by
