Y Gegin Fach in Gwynedd

Wow what a find. We went back thereafter a castle visit. Had a lovely hearty Welsh stew and I had crumble and hubby had choc cake and custard. Milk shakes too. Karen and team v v welcoming and made a pair of holiday makers v happy. If you like a good homecooked meal go give them a try. GF options excellent too

Astonishingly good breakfast, the sausages themselves were worth the price! Friendly staff and customers - we’d got the bus from Waunfawr and saw a few locals who’d been on the bus in there, so clearly the place to go for those in the know 😃

Tucked away just a short distance from Castle Square, this is a cracking little cafe, well worth seeking out. As visitors to Caernarfon, we received a warm welcome. The 'specials board' was very tempting, with lots of lovely homestyle food on offer. The lob scouse was tremendous and great value too. We were so glad that we didn't go to Costa!

I live local but have never been here before. It was the best breakfast i’ve had in a while. The sausages were something else i tell you! Was so filling and was cheap for what you had. Would definitely go again. Staff were friendly and efficient as well.

We have visited this lovely traditional cafe twice this week (so far). If you want a decent cup of tea this is the place for you but our main reason for a return visit was the 'Lob Scouse' they serve for £5.95 it's a real treat!! The cafe is a family run business with friendly staff serving well cooked proper food at sensible prices.

We love the food and service here, very homey and portion is big! My 4 years old son said this is the best breakfast in the whole world.

Stopped here on a wet and miserable Friday morning and were treated to one of the heartiest breakfasts we've ever had. A little hidden up a small street, exactly the sort of place you hope to find, a pity we were only here for the week or we'd be back again faster.

What a treat! We booked ahead because we wanted to make sure our party of six adults, one child and a medium sized dog could be accommodated - so glad we did as it seemed a popular place. We had a mix of full breakfasts and baps that were really good portion sizes of great quality food - very tasty. The fried bread was apparently the best my husband and son had had in years. My grandson enjoyed the jam butties ( children’s menu) and a chocolate milk shake in a cute bottle. Mac ( golden cocker spaniel ) was given some water and offered a sausage . It was such a genuinely warm welcome from all the ladies - we were so well looked after and came away absolutely stuffed full of delicious food ! The excellent reviews are spot on and well deserved .

We meet at this Little Gem of a Cafe every 2-3 months. We are all Serving Members of The Royal Logistic Corps and decided some years ago now to meet up every few months for a breakfast. So glad we choose this Caf. The owners Karen and Kevin, (Kev being an RLC member himself), look after us so well when we have our get togethers. The Hearty Breakfast is a "Real Hearty Breakfast" is enjoyed by all, and leaves you feeling full and well fed, "You don't need to eat much else for the rest of the day". All the breakfast items are of a high standard especially the sausage and bacon which is of exceptional Quality ("tiger bread toast with the salty butter also goes down a treat"). I have had lunch here on a different occasion with other friends and food is as expected, freshly prepared by Karen, "If the homemade quiche is on the specials board, always worth having" In Caernarfon soon, if you fancy a hearty breakfast or something a little lighter, worth a visit to this cafe, the only disappointment you may experience is that you may not get a table as it is so popular. After walking round and round in circles after our steam train journey to find something special hiding up back street and it was definitely well worth it food and service 5⭐️

Loveley welcoming staff and owners. Great food at a very reasonable price. Visit most weeks, never had any problems. When someone does complain (not often) the owner comes to sort it out immediately. Great place.

Called in this week for a regular visit,we had lobscouse, I always wondered why people here don't just do beef stew and dumplings. Anyway the staff are always pleasant, and the food is usually good. My only criticism is the menu never changes and is the same in other establishments. Menus need reinventing to give people a better choice. I'm sure there are lots of different dishes you cood conjure up. Please please please give us all a better choice.

Street cleaning Christmas breakfast we were overwhelmed with the warmth of the staff here at Gegin Fach and the food was beyond amazing I would recommend this superb cafe as the best in Caernarfon town on value for money and the ability to make you feel so welcome

Just had a pigs in blankets baguette take away from here. Lovely warm fresh baguette, succulent juicy sausages and tasty bacon. Best cafe in Caernarfon in my opinion. Highly recommended.

Best cafe in caernarfon, reserved on every table is all the proof needed, they will always try and accommodate you. One of the best social distancing and sanitised cafes visited. Table, menus and chairs wiped down before next customers.

On our way back home, catching the bus this cafe is in a side street near the bus stops. Very friendly staff and great value food. Used by the locals not just tourists. Give Costa a miss and give these your business rather than a faceless plc.

We had just visited the Castle and wanted a light lunch. Saw a chalkboard advertising Y Gegin Fach and decided to reward their enterprise.A lovely cosy cafe and simple home made food.Recommend the mug of soup and a sandwich, also the apple tart and cream.Very friendly service we enjoyed our visit. On a very windy rainy day we came across this restaurant around the corner near Caernarfon Castle. A small and very popular restaurant with locals, serving home made welsh food. My Wife had her leek and lentil soup with bread while I had their famous welsh beef stew with bread. Taste was good and hearty. Service was friendly and helpful. Price was very reasonable. Its a little gem of a restaurant.

Two adults, four children and a dog were welcomed into this cosy cafe on a wet and dismal morning. The staff were pleasant and polite, service with a smile! The food was freshly cooked and delicious. We had traditional cooked breakfast-adult and kids portions- plenty on the plates. Poached eggs on toast cooked to perfection, sausage sandwich on doorstep bread was yum!

Today my friend and I discovered this little gem in Caernarfon. The food was totally delicious. I had a delicious bowl of beef stew (locally called Lob) which was packed with beautifully cooked beef and vegetables and my friend had a bowl of homemade lentil and vegetable soup, equally delicious. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. Basically beautifully home cooked food at an exceptionally reasonable price. Will definitely go again when next in Caernarfon. Highly recommend! Thank you all at Y Gegin Fach. See you next year on our next visit.

Small...personal service..friendly and good food. Lots to choose from..daily specials...locals eat there...which is the best recommendation ever. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff..generous portions so take a good appetite along.

Stopped by and shared a table with some locals who come frequently. Tried the ploughman’s lunch since I’ve read about it often. Those ploughmen needed lots to eat, definitely more than I do! Nice serving of ham, several varieties of cheese, pickled onions, cole slaw and bread on the side.

Stopped for a bite, we were only going to have a snack but changed our minds once we knew it was all homemade food, absolutely delicious, four of us ate and the food was second to none, left feeling sated. Great food, well cooked and served with a smile and a chat, did not break the bank as some cafes do. Bonus being they allowed us to bring the dog in which was really important to us.

Always prefer a nice little cafe over a chain. A lovely traditionally British little place, with lovely staff, nice food at good prices. What’s not to like?

Nach dem Besuch der Burg hatten wir Hunger und sind dank TripAdvisor auf das Y Gegin Fach aufmerksam geworden. Wir suchten es und fanden es etwas versteckt in einer kleinen Nebenstraße. Wir wurden direkt sehr freundlich auf walisisch begrüßt und angesprochen - wir verstanden natürlich nichts, aber es zeigt, dass hier viele Einheimische essen gehen, was immer ein gutes Zeichen ist. Wir bestellten Fish & Chips und einen Salat mit Lachs und Shrimps. Alles schmeckte sehr gut und die Portionen waren groß. Die Familienmitglieder arbeiteten hier alle Hand in Hand und gaben sich die größte Mühe, ihre Gäste zufrieden zu stellen. Absolute Empfehlung!

Very central, but felt off the tourist trail thanks to most of our fellow-customers talking Welsh. (Always a good sign when the locals meet up there for a chat!) Lovely food, lovely staff, so glad we found it.

We were recommended to eat here by the marina staff. Judging from the clientele (lots of welsh being spoken, which I love to hear) it’s a local favourite. And rightly so. Unpretentious, friendly and good value...and the food was excellent.

Forget the other places on the square which are overpriced and well below average in their food and level of service. This place is a gem. The quality of food here is excellent. The staff are friendly and the place has really nice vibe. The soups and the lobsgaws (beef stew) were outstanding. Highly recommended, you will not be disappointed.

Very welcoming, we had a dog and baby and 4 adults and accommodated us wonderfully. Very friendly sorted a bowl for the dog, toy for the baby to keep her occupied. Drinks and food were lovely. Highly recommend for a full meal or even just a coffee and a cake.

Wow ! What a place ! We'd read about this restaurant in a travel publication and made it a point to go when we were in Caernarfon. We arrived after they'd closed and it didn't matter to them at all. The food was great, we had Cawl and Gammon & Eggs. For dessert we had a Apple Crumble with Ice Cream. This was our favourite place that we dined at when we were in Wales. What a variety, and so very inexpensive. Thanks for your great food and service. God willing we'll some again sometime.........

We visited this little family run business this afternoon and I honestly can't recommend this place enough. The staff are so warm and welcoming, they brought toys over for my boys to play with and colouring books. It feels warm and cosy as soon as you enter. The food was tasty and very reasonably priced. It's a little hidden gem I would say and from start to finish we felt welcomed by all. The staff honestly couldn't have done any more for us as a family and I appreciate the time and consideration to ensure my boys had everything they needed. Thank you for such a delightful and wonderful experience with you all ❤️

We had the best of welcome from the very friendly staff, and enjoyed a quick snack whilst waiting for the return of our coach to the town. Can recommend the very tasty Welsh cakes and butter .... delicious!!! Very competitive prices ....

A true hidden gem in a town full of hidden gems. Y Gegin Fach is a true family-run business. The moment you walk in, the atmosphere is lovely and the food looks appetising. We all had the soup (cream of vegetable) that was scrummy and I had a potato + tuna mayo which was lovely! Go!

If you think a quiche is just a quiche you should try Karen's home made quiche. Cooked this morning, served with a choice of chips n peas or salad n coleslaw, it was absolutely delicious. My first visit here, the place was full of locals who were obviously regulars. The staff were friendly and efficient. Thank you.

My partner and myself called in here, we'd heard a lot about this little gem. We certainly weren't disappointed, the food was absolutely fantastic, I can definitely recommend the lamb dinner, it was brill. The staff too where great, very helpful and efficient. Next time we're in town we'll certainly be going back here.
