Really enjoyed our meal here and will definitely be back. It’s a no frills, ‘compact’ place but the dumplings and noodles are first class. The lobster dumplings were really good, big chunks of sweet lobster and really fresh. Dan Dan Noodles were also a big hit.

My husband and I came here this afternoon on a whim as we fancied eating dim sum/ dumplings. It's a tiny restaurant but centrally located just off Covent Garden. It was packed and had a queue so we knew it would be good. We ordered some fresh homemade prawn dumplings, a huge soup dumpling (complete with straw), the Dan Dan noodles and deep fried pork ribs. We both loved the Dan Dan noodles, just the right amount of spice and savoury flavour and was big enough to share. I adored the dumplings and my husband was a huge fan of the pork ribs. I had a lemon tea which was really authentic to the tea I gave had in China too! The place is busy and bustling but the food comes out fast and service was good. We will definitely be returning!

The restaurant is in a quite narrow building so there is not much room and not many tables. Kitchen is on the view so you can see that dumplings are not frozen but made in real time. You can feel it’s not extravagant, more like home-made food. Service is good, swift. I ate seafood and pork dumplings, it was very good experience and day after no digestive issues. Without any doubt it is worth visiting.

Being in London is one thing. Being in China is another. And when you are visiting London you might want to have a dinner in China, or a Chinese dinner at least. And that was on the list. Where to go and what to have. In London you can visit "Chinatown" area not far from the theatre district. It has been there for years and has many options. But this time was different. We checked things out and found a place down a side street not far from the main street we always walk on when in London. It was a location that is easy to pass. There is no huge sign outside. Just a sign on the window and a short menu. You walk inside and think you are in a "take-out" place. But then you ask if you can sit and they say either upstairs or downstairs. This place is small and that is where the seats are. And not many. So, we went downstairs to try it out. Down there was small. Think no more than 20 people there if that. Packed. We got the last table and the waiter brought over the menu. We ordered our water and started to look what we can do. It was some menu to choose from. We also got some insights from the tables next to us. They made recommendations as they are locals who always go here. This is not a tourist place. Very local. It took time but then we ordered what we wanted. It is known for dumplings and the list was long and varied. This was not easy to decide. So, we kept it simple. What e ordered beef dumplings where was 12 dumplings that were freshly made. Soft but firm. Proper taste in the beef. The noodles edge was ideal, with a touch of salt from the pot of boiling water where they are made. This was followed with dumplings (again 12) filled with mashed chicken and fresh corn. It is something we never heard of, but here it is. Once more this is fresh and handmade. It was just made so it was warm and fresh. The flavor was right. And a dip in soy (and chili pepper sauce) was perfect. Next there were seasoned dumplings that are not very common here but in China. They were fresh, spicy, and filled with some vegetables and pork. The seasoning did help make them different than what we had had before. Finally came the bigger items. Starting with the bowl of beef soup, vegetables, bok, and beef ribs. Floating in the warm broth was ideal to improve the seasoning and the flavor itself. There was a bowl of noodles in it as well. All freshly made and substantial for the eaters. And this could fee two people at one time or to share. A specialty they had, and is hard to find, is something I always liked when living in Beijing. This is Mapo Tofu. This is my favorite Chinese soul food, that some places try to make but cannot achieve. This is a super flavorful tofu dish that’s stewed in a complex savory sauce with spicy peppers and numbing peppercorns! If you love spicy, ultra-flavorful food, you’re going to love this dish! It was perfect, as I have not had this since moving from China. Overall, Xi Home is an ideal place to step into when you find it. I have it locked into my phone info to find it again. The team is great. The manger is ideal. It is like stopping into a local Chinese take-out that I remember even when working in NYC. The price is perfect. The proportion is great. The special thing to nice is that this is true Chinese cooking. It comes from a small region in the Northeast with the main city of Dalian (A place where I did have an office.) One special thank you is for the ladies we see when you walk in. These are the ladies that are making the dumplings and do it at the speed that you would see in China,. It is fast, fresh and perfect. They are amazing to see by itself. Xi xi......

I had the Pork Soup Dumpling and the soup was very tasty. I also had the Dan Dan Noodles which were slightly spicy with some good noodles and a good mix of flavours. I tried 3 types of dumplings and all were good but the Spicy Pork was my favourite.

We discovered this place last night. We had looked at the reviews beforehand and being chefs we decided to try it. So here goes. The dumplings are excellent and a good portion of 10. You can watch the kitchen make them by hand. Unfortunately, the restaurant is very small and even have benches just outside the unisex toilet, the couple sitting there were not pleased with having to eat just outside a toilet. The toilets themselves have signs stating not to flush toilet paper down the toilet??? Where else are you going to put it? You do feel rather claustrophobic and not ideal place for a couples private conversation. Back to the food. The dumplings are excellent as we have already said but the homemade noodles are poor. They are overcooked and stodgy. The broth was quite tasteless and the Dan Dan Noodles not spicy at all. The wasabi prawns were rubbery and we did expect proper wasabi which was not the case. We asked for the bill and were told to pay downstairs. The man just took the payment almost ignoring us, not even bothering to ask if we enjoyed our meal. He was arrogant and sarcastic. So really poor customer service which we have found in most SOHO restaurants. They couldn't care less if your there.

Tasty dumplings, very good and quick service. Tiny place, so don't go expecting a fancy meal. Dumplings come quick, are fresh and hot. The large ones filled with soup are especially good. Very flavourful. The batter/dough on the prawn dumplings (10 in a plate) was quite thick, and unlike what I have had in other HK/Taiwanese restaurants in East Asia. I'd visit again.

Delicious Asian cuisine, prices are reasonable and portions are large! I consider this place a hidden gem. I wanted Asian food (a break from all the pub food) but I didn't want to break the bank dealing with a CAD exchange $. I was able to get a reservation the day of and walk over from Trafalgar Square. This place, like many Asian eateries, is high on food, but not white glove service. The staff was cordial, but overworked. One person was working the entire upstairs by herself where all the tables were having to trek up and down the stairs with trays of food. Not a fancy place, but definitely recommend to those who want Asian eats that won't break the bank. I would say cuisine is a fusion of a Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese and Thai. Delish!

I had been there twice within a week and I am not a tourist. I live in London. Service, food and ambience is top notch for me. A lot of restaurants in London can feel hemmed in and echoey. But not Xi. Food - there are many varieties of dumplings to choose for.and they are.freshly made. The noodles were freshly made too and it's al dente. So far I have tried Lobster dumplings, cuttlefish dumpling, zhajiang noodles, deep fried taro, smashed cucumbers salad, cold okra, garlic knuckles, pork soup bun, pan fried dumplings, and last but not least Xi Home tofu. I will still have many visits to make to try their other dishes and some of the ones that I like (tofu! Which I also took away on the first visit for my family to try). So really thumbs up!) . The portion of food is good. I just wish drinks are slightly larger.

On impulse I booked a table with this restaurant and was happy to discover this cute little shop off the beaten path in central. The place was clean, bright and steeped in culture. Prices were affordable and the food was incredible. And not just the kind of good food you hear about and try once only to discover that it’s ‘ok’, I actually mean that it was beautiful. I would highly recommend.

One meal only appeared and was fully eaten and no second meal came so we left and then we then went to another nearby and better restuarant to complete our dinner. This was a very strange experience with no valid explanation. Do NOT go to this restaurant .

I have a nut allergy and the online booking system asked me to add all my allergy information before booking (I thought this a good sign at the time). When we arrived and were seated, there was no mention of the allergy and so I told the waiter before ordering. They were immediately visibly uncomfortable and told me that everything on the menu was cooked in peanut oil and therefore I couldn't eat anything. As a result, we had to leave after travelling into London specifically to eat there. Surely that's something you would add to your website, and at the very least mention during the booking process, particularly if someone lists an allergy to peanuts? I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Highly disappointed with our evening. It is a cold evening and therefore we were wearing big coats and we had to ask staff if there was a cloakroom. Not a great start already! Following this, the food was brought out so quickly and therefore not allowing us to enjoy each dish. In addition, after rushing our starters, mains and dessert, we were told we had to quickly give up the table for the next guests who weren't anywhere to be seen. They couldn't be quick enough to send us on our way! Given the price, you would think service would be on point but it was an utter disappointment. This was a dinner to celebrate a birthday and they did not make it special at all. Shall not be recommending nor shall I ever be going back.

UPDATE: We became regulars here until 2020 and were very sad indeed to dscover that it has closed its doors. A real loss to anyone who enjoys first quality Japanese food! This is one of the best Japanese restaurants in London but it is so authentic that you need a guide. The sushi is good, the usual menu items are very good but if you really want to eat well you need to choose from the blackboard with the day's dishes chalked up in Japanese. Marinated squid guts and tuna cheek are delicious and so genuine: you could be in a very good local restaurant in Japan. These kind of dishes are not found in most London Japanese restaurants and this is why Sakana Tei is special. Grab a Japanese or literate Chinese friend and treat them in return for choosing the delicious surprises you would normally miss!
