Excellent meal in quiet comfortable area just off reception. Main courses were mullet and lamb, both excellent. Choclate tart for desert was very rich but good - too much for us really. Total bil £82 including a pint of ale and glass of wine. Good value for the quality and service.

This hotel occupies a very, very old building, the walls, the floors and the ceilings are all bent twisted and sloping, so depending on your point of view it's either delapidated or full of character. Unsuitable for anyone with mobility issues. During my mini break I was served by some of the nicest staff you could hope to meet, I was fed with excellent food from a skilled chef. The Friday I arrived the lounge was buzzing with bohemian weirdo's and old hippies who spontaneously produced violins, flutes guitars etc, Then I realised this could be me many years ago, a real friendly treat with salt of the earth people. Had a great weekend here.

Can’t say it’s the best place I e ever stayed. And for its price per night I was expecting a much higher standard of room and service. This place is tired and it’s website fools you into thinking it’s something it not. I’d rather stay in a premier inn than stay in this place again. The bedroom wasn’t clean the decor is god knows how old, the menu was overpriced and a limited choice and what was served up certainly wasn’t worth the cost. Steak and Chips with a bit of salad garnish for £25 !! I wouldn’t mind if it was a quality dish .. it wasn’t. And simply don’t get me started on the service. I stayed with a friend who took another room and he was equally disappointed as he was embarrassed as he was the one who booked it !! He’s forgiven .. but sorry The Wynnstay … you need to improve.

We has a two day mid-week break here between 14th and 16th of December courtesy of a Travelzoo deal. Given the generosity of the terms we weren't expecting too much, but were really pleasantly surprised by the experience. Despite outside temperatures down to as low as -11C overnight and a local outbreak of seasonal lurgies that meant that they were short of staff the welcome was warm and courteous. The Wynnstay appears to privately owned and this means that it packed with thoughtful and charming little personal touches. Real coffee bags and Welsh tea in the rooms, fresh butter on the table cut from an actual block, not in the usually ubiquitous individual foil packs. Catering here is superb. All ingredients are locally sourced and cooked to a uniformly excellent standard by a multiple award winning kitchen. I urge you (if you are either carnivore or omnivore) to try the chef's signature duck. Worth going back for on it's own, (and we will), but everything that we tried was of a similar standard. Wine is imported by the owner directly from single vineyards in Italy and is both very good and reasonably priced, not an equation that one comes across too, as was the menu, which meant the £30pp allowance we had with our deal went quite a long way - . I loved the décor, not made over by some corporate entity, but clearly painstakingly collected and augmented over a long period of time and the Christmas decorations were lovely. There was plenty to do in the locale despite the cold snap. The town has some lovely shops pubs and cafes, small enough to walk around in an hour or so, big enough to lose an afternoon browsing and / or indulging. There are plenty of interesting attractions in a half hour drive or so, including the coast and of course the local Welsh countryside is beautiful. All in all a real find of a place for us. It deserves to be overrun, but selfishly, I really hope it isn't. It really is a little hidden gem.

We ate here one evening in August. It’s a nice Victorian building that has been done up in a stripped woodwork way which is nice. The menu was quite short but the food was nice. The wine list is impressive but quite expensive. The issue was the comedy of errors service. It took 10 minutes to be given even a drinks menu, another 10 for the food menu and drinks order. Then starters arrive in minutes but still nothing to drink. The waiter appeared to have never used a corkscrew or poured a bottle before. All friendly and good food but we had a birthday to celebrate and would have ordered much more if we had had the chance.

We stayed 3 nights at this hotel and can't enthuse enough about the staff. Nothing was too much trouble and they were really friendly. What let it down was the room and in some areas, the building. We stayed in room 32 which was spacious but was tired and needed some tlc. We stayed on the hottest night ever recorded and the window didn't open. There was a TV in the room but sitting in the 80s leather chairs it could not be watched as it was too small. The bathroom was without doubt an accident waiting to happen. Built on 3 tiers (see photos) and no safety mats or handles to get in and out of the bath. When standing in the bath you were quite high up so if you slipped it was a long way to fall. We ate in 2 nights and although the food was acceptable it was a bit pricey. The building could do with freshen up and the outside area the to the rear could do with a rethink as this is the way you enter the building from the car park.

It's an interesting place with quite an eclectic decor. The walls of the dining rooms and lounge bars are decorated with fabulous pottery, brass carriages, fishing reels, paintings etc. On the first landing there are framed photos of Lloyd George with various dignitaries. The hotel is an old, large building with wooden panelling and creaky, uneven floors. It has a lovely atmosphere, the beds are comfortable and there's plenty of hot water. I enjoyed the breakfasts (grapefruit, scrambled egg & smoked salmon, toast, pot of coffee). I can recommend the peppered duck for dinner. The staff are hard working and helpful. There's a feeling of 'shabby chic' and I wondered if some redecoration were needed. But, if so, it might lose it's atmosphere.

Just had a lovely 2 night stay on a Travelzoo deal, although we did pay to upgrade the room which was very quiet, clean with a really comfortable bed. Lovely building kept warm with log fires. Friendly staff, nothing too much trouble serving good selection of food and drink. Would definitely stay again. Thank you.

Nice hotel with great food. Friendly staff who appeared to be coping well despite being short-staffed.

Very pleasant couple of nights at this lovely old coaching Inn. Excellent staff, good food and (even guessing they're as short-handed as everyone else right now) prompt, efficient service. I suspect the "official" three star rating is based on the slightly tired decor - although everything was spotlessly clean. Will wholeheartedly recommend.

Absolutely delicious top quality meal. The steak and lamb chops cooked to perfection , and the mozzarella & heritage tomato salad so fresh and flavoursome. Would highly recommend especially after a day hiking Cadair Idris!

Comfortable well equipped room in a nice old hotel with friendly and helpful staff. Excellent breakfast and also had a very good evening meal. Could just do with some more veggie options and a bit more veg/salad with the mains. Service was excellent and felt very covid safe.
