I am a regular weekend user of this cafe. It is coffee with a smile! I find the coffee as good and in some cases better than the much more expensive competition. I tend to gravitate towards the tray bakes/scones and I've never had a bad experience. A few customers appear to have had subjectively bad experiences which is unfortunate, but I've always enjoyed the service and food/coffee. It can be a busy environment for the staff but I've never waited for more than a few minutes to be served. Do expect families to be a prominent feature here, though the cafe is large enough to find a quieter space. The staff have always been polite and personable and it's good to remember that folk employed in hospitality and public facing roles can have good and indifferent days. It's hard to please everyone every time but for me I can honestly say that my experience here has always been good. Coffee is very reasonably priced. £2.50 for an americano is very good value and in terms of cleanliness, I have found the environment much better than several other well known branded cafes in the local area. It's a good place to watch the world go by. But then, that's merely my relativist opinion.

Not impressed. Service is friendly and helpful. But having a cash only system is ridiculous. Food mediocre and lacking in real substance. Very limited vegan or vegetarian options. This place could be fresh and buzzing. Sadly it is not.

Poor all round, sadly. Tired limited food, sandwicheswraps. Inexplicably Cash Only, which is awkward as there is no atm on site. One vegan option, few vegetarian, and a little tired side salad. Staff members tried their best, but there is a harassed functional vibe. It is a pity that such a great setting of the Museum atrium, does not have a buzzing quality cafe offering.

Cafe absolutely filthy I went to get some cutlery and couldn't believe my eyes... desert spoons covered in food debris ...hadn't been put through the dishwasher properly..I approached a member of staff who had earphones in both ears...he really wanted to engage with customers NOT... seats were filthy.... There's no excuse in this day and age ...we will never be back !

The cafe has some nice tray bakes and sausage rolls. A good stop for coffee after being around the museum but it is lacking in soft furnishings so can get really loud. It also gets really busy. When I was there they had soy and oat milk as DF alternatives.

Overlooking a dining area filled with people without food or tables to be cleaned, overlooking the expectedly overpriced food and seriously demotivated staff, we had to deal with somebody claiming to be the manager after returning pastry that was incredibly stale. After politely returning my replacement for the same reason this ‘manager’ challenged me for having touched it. I asked her would she rather I bit into it first to which I was told I have now wasted two. I stepped up to this disgrace of an employee and she had absolutely no problem stepping up more and arguing with a customer. I got my refund however and I advised her unacceptable pastry’s which she blamed on the bulbs under which they were sitting were not the fault of the customer and she was out of line. She could not have cared less. This restaurant needs menus behind the counter, on the tables, the staff need energy drinks and direction and Louise handed a mop and kept back of house! It’s such a shame because it’s a beautiful space. It’s just being run extraordinarily terribly. Bad service happens but bad manners is never acceptable!

It was a second-best choice because the café I wanted to go to no longer had anything available on the menu. It's not bad, it's inside the museum, it's clean and the staff is friendly but nothing to write home about. In fact I only had tea and a muffin. It could be better.

We arrived at the museum and were all really hungry so stood in the queue for 20 minutes, as per other reviews staff are extremely disorganised, two at the till too busy chatting while a massive queue waited for one who did seem to be working to work out hot food. Finally got near the counter and the lady 2 in front of me asked about a tuna melt toastie, when it was picked up with a pair of tongs it fell apart with tuna and Mayo falling out, and the lady changed her mind. I watched the server then pick up a different product with the same tongs and then use the same tongs for putting a side salad on the plate. So already that’s fish and mayo in the salad bowl. When it came to my turn i asked if there was any tongs that hadn’t touched the tuna that could have been used and was told no there wasn’t they only had one pair of tongs. I then noticed sausage rolls and asked about those only to be told that they had an egg wash but everything was cooked in the same oven as the tuna products. At this point the thought of all that cross contamination of fish totally turned us, we had some drinks on a tray already and all that was left was sweet food when we wanted savoury so I tried to say to the girl at the till we no longer wanted our drinks but they were too busy chatting to each other to even notice. Terrible experience ruined our day our because we wanted to eat before looking round the museum, instead we all ended up hungry and leaving earlier.

Good place, but these women consider themselves superior to others. The child took a seat, left his jacket, and when he returned, he found that his table was busy, and the jacket was on the aisle on a children's chair.

Obwohl das Café offen war, wollte man uns den Tee auf Nachfrage nur noch im Pappbecher rausgeben. No go! Die Person vor mir bekam aber noch eine Tasse und wir waren fertig als noch eine lange Schlange am Café stand. Geht lieber woanders hin. Preise für Getränke sind allerdings fair.

We have come here both on busy weekends and in quiet times after school. It takes them FOREVER to serve the line. Staff seem disorganised and unsure of everything. My children refused to eat the kids meals after a couple of bites. We tried both the fish and the chicken, and they were awful. My kids only drink water and they wouldn’t substitute a bottle of water for the sugar filled “fruit drink”. The adult meals were okay - not bad but not great. They refuse to serve any savoury items at 2:15, even though the items are still on display. So after school snacks are only sweet stuff that has been sitting out all morning. Not sure then what they plan to do with the savoury - probably serve it again the next day, reheated. Overall a big step down from yellow door that used to be here. Pity as we would love to stop in frequently but now we go elsewhere.

Today I ate at this cafe, never again! After waiting for service due to a lengthy queue, I ordered a ham and cheese toastie, took my seat and waited to be served. The paper napkins were set on the table and stuck to it, it was so unclean! The toastie arrived toasted on one side, warm and wet on the other with cheese not melted at all. This was so diappointing after all your good reviews, hardly surprising as the two staff taking orders, also cleared tables, cooked food and took payments. they just couldnt manage the numbers they had to serve. Not a good experience!!

I haven't come across such a badly organised café in a long time. The staff behind the counter were so disorganised, one member spent the time we were queuing, arranging teapots and jugs. There was no system for taking orders, passing them to be filled and then handing to the customer. This could be a great café if it were organised.

I work nearby & would regularly go here if it didn't take forever to get some substandard food. The few staff are clearly struggling to keep up with demand & what seems to be a bad system of ordering. Today I stood in the smallish queue for about 10 minutes without ordering or moving much at all. So I gave up and left. Hire more staff and pay the ones you have more money, because I'm sure they deal with unhappy customers all the time.

One of our party ordered a hot meal. We also ordered sandwich from the counter and a children's ham sandwich. By the time the hot meal was delivered and eaten, there was still no sign of the rest of our food. We waited 45 minutes altogether, and when we asked, it was clear that the staff had forgotten. Food was decent, but we'll opt for somewhere else next time!

Three meals ordered, one provided shortly after ordering and 45 minutes later the other two hadn't arrived. When I went up to ask about the order, the staff member was really dismissive and said I would have to queue up to ask at the counter (the queue was fairly long at this point!) They said they would bring the food round shortly, but it was clear that it had been forgotten about. When the food did come the kids meal wasn't a toasted sandwich as advised, (just cold ham and cheese sandwich) and didn't include the piece of fruit. Didn't bother asking again as it had already taken up enough of our day. Very overpriced - kids meal was essentially £5 for a ham sandwich, 45 minutes late. Service really lacking. Wouldn't consider returning.

Beautiful lunch and coffee with friends today, such a great feeling to have a nice light lunch with friendly and approachable staff! We had Caesar salad, homemade scone( one of the best in along time), scampi and a burger 10/10 all round.. complimented with a wee glass of bubbles and coffee, both went down a treat! We even asked to buy some beans, maybe next time We will be back

Previous experience of the cafe at Ulster Museum was good and so decided to return for a snack lunch and coffee while attending the museum itself. On this occasion it was a disappointing, although mixed, experience. The staff were friendly and helpful. The scone was good. The egg sandwich was adequate. But the coffee was appalling. My wife had an Americano, which she said had little taste. I requested an Espresso and got the appropriate quantity of a dark, tasteless liquid in a small cup - it looked like an Espresso, but did not taste like an Espresso. Neither my wife nor I finished our drinks. A disappointing experience.
