Wrights Traditional Fish & Chips in Uttlesford

We’ve had food from here several times before, and have really enjoyed it. Tonight, we ordered food at 6:50pm, with delivery time of 7:30pm-8:00pm, and live just around the corner from the chippy (I’d usually collect, but we’re in the middle of decorating and having a new kitchen put in). When it went past 8pm, I rang them and was told that 1. He didn’t remember the order (couldn’t look it up with the order number without ringing someone) and 2. The lady delivering had just left with some orders so he wasn’t able to check if our order was going out. The food arrived shortly after this call, at 8:06pm via car, and was cold and soggy. The medium chips were also much smaller than usual. I rang back to inform them that we were unhappy and to give them a chance to rectify rather than write a review but he was argumentative and claimed that we received our order last as others that are further away had earlier delivery times, which I can appreciate, but I’d rather that they kept our food at the chippy in the heated counter and be late delivering rather than going cold in a car for all that time. We live literally 30 seconds drive away, its completely nonsensical. I understand things might go wrong in busy times but the response was unacceptable. Sadly we wont be using them again.

We had fish and chips on a Friday evening and they were really very nice. Staff are friendly and courteous. I recommend them highly.

Worst fish and chip shop in Saffron Walden ordered online at 6.30pm for 7.45-8.15 delivery rung them at 8.25 to be told sorry for delay it’s out for delivery 8.45 turned up asked driver what time he left shop 5 minutes ago he said so the lies were bad enough but when we opened our food it was luke warm and certainly not just cooked or fresh avoid at all costs

Called in for a late lunch with family after a day's house clearing. Agne was efficient and exceptional in ensuring our complicated order was completed in a short space of time. There is seating outside whilst we waited plus parking which is usually fraught when in the centre of town. Food was still piping hot and delicious when home.

Dry chips and even dryer hadock We have given wrights a go a few times since opening in Saffron Walden, thinking they would improve Sadly not Won’t be trying again

Delivery 40mins late was the main issue but the large chips which is more expensive than everywhere else was underwhelming portion. Everything else was acceptable but not good, they are the most expensive F+Cshop in walden and would expect better.

always enjoy my chips from here! The chicken chunks are beautiful! And the curry sauce is my fav!

Ordered scampi and 1 large chips. Approx. £9 The chips were not freshly cooked and the lack of scampi was disgraceful. I could of opened a pack of young's whole tail scampi and had twice as much for half the price. Hugely disappointed!!!! Not sure if it was because Wednesday is 20% off, but I didn't even know it was a discounted night and would have preferred a decent sized portion. Will pass on disappointment.

When I opened it once home (5 minute journey): cod portion miniscule (advertised as medium), inside overcooked, batter soft and squishy because it has been cooked so long ago, chips still white. Disgusting and inedible

Had fish and chips tonight food was delicious and very hot. My friend recommended trying the curry sauce so I thought I would give it a try I can honestly say I wasn’t disappointed The staff are very friendly and the premises are clean and fresh looking highly recommend and thank you

Shocking service with a young (nothing wrong with that) but unmotivated team. The microwave pings more than the sound of the till!! Has the blandest, tough piece of small fish with chips that kept (due to the oil) repeating on me. We also ordered a pie that was heated up from the freezer/chiller in the micowave whilst i waited. The savaloy was cold and the only nice thing about the meal was the curry sauce!! It’s overpriced and the team seriously need to be sorted out. They was on there phones with very little interaction. It was terrible and was my first and last visit. Shame.

I tried the cod and chips here last week, all cooked fresh to order, nice crispy batter and tasty fish, wrapped separately upon request. Very good.

Wonderful fish and chips every time but a special mention to the young man who was cooking and serving on Saturday 16th. He did really well

Waited over two and half hours The chips were all mashed together, the burger was soggy and the food was pretty much cold.

Ordered online and after the expected delivery was gone we phone to enquire about order. Was told it was on its way . After 25 mins later we were told it was not for another 40mins even we opt to pick order ourselves. The food maybe good but it is dishonesty that we were disgusted with. And the apology was they have one delivery vehicle.

Really good food. Pretty much always cooked to order so you may have to wait a few minutes but it won't have been sat under a heat lamp for who knows how long?

A really tasty takeaway! We ordered some cod, a battered sausage, crispy chicken burger, frickles (fried pickles) and a large chips, it was all delicious! Delivery was on time and very friendly. Would certainly recommend.

The first time I ordered chips, I can honestly say they were the best I had eaten anywhere. Since then prices went up and the quality of chips went down. It may just be a 'timing' thing, as you can make nice chips but my experience is of a drop in quality. Please don't drop standards as you will just be another chip shop equal to others in SW and you can be better. You will lose customers aswell.

Ordered through gogetters and the pictures show the cod option comes with chips. Unfortunately it came with no chips so wasn’t very happy. Also ordered the seafood basket at the batter was hard and not nice at all.

First time I had ordered from Wrights, and the online booking system right through to their delivery to my home was perfect.The delivery was prompt and the food was hot and delicious.i will definitely use Wrights of Saffron Walden again!

The food was great and a great price too! Couldn't fault it.

Nice to have proper Quorn vegetarian options in a local Chippy & everything freshly cooked. Very tasty. Will definitely return. Lots of staff to serve but some so busy talking to each other they lose focus on the orders they are completing and make mistakes.

Just had a takeaway and can honestly say couldn't fault it the food was very fresh and just as it should be also like to mention the service and cleanliness we're both 5 star aswell

Great food, they corrected a mistake quickly and hand delivered the missing items within 10 minutes, really impressed with the gluten free offering too.

Great to have a local chippy back open! The service was good, fish was good but the chips were a little under cooked. Hopefully just a one off. Pleases to see they offer gluten free options every day 👍
