Wright Brothers Oyster & Porter House in Southwark

An overall terrible experience for both me and my guest. Walking in we were greeted coldly and the staff ignored us for the first 20 minutes, which they later said was because they were "busy" despite many of them just standing around, looking anywhere but at customers who may have wanted their attention. We ordered their oysters at 2:58 and their promotion for £1 was from 3-6pm, which the waiter made a cold comment that it was not yet 3pm. I just politely asked if he could log in our order at 3pm. After some time the oysters arrived, which tasted great but shortly after leaving the restaurant I felt a sharp pain in my stomach which I suspected as likely food poisoning. I spent the next few hours throwing up and in bed, trying to recover. NOT ADVISABLE. Tourist trap! Their Kensington restaurant is much nicer in all respects. Will not be coming back.

was here with my BOYFRIEND. we had a reservation at 20:30 and got there at 20:40. anyways we sat and it was all good. the oysters were pretty good, however the other platter had snails and some clams that were not fresh. the crab and shrimp should have also been served hot, not freezing cold. we ordered some grilled shrimp which were way better. for the price… around 180.. you could have gotten something way better anywhere else.

It’s a great place, VERY tight but with a lot of character and the food is great and decently priced, we will be coming back to sit at the bar that is for sure. They also have offers of special priced oysters in the week I believe, so definitely worth a visit!

I had an absolutely amazing time! The cook was fabulous and took the time to talk with me - staff was very friendly and the atmosphere at the restaurant was cozy and “hyggelig”. I will most definitely come again and will recommend this place to anyone and everyone who’d like a good and refined dinning experience! Bonus info: they do 1£ per oyster every weekday from 15:00-18:00 🦪🦪🦪

It is always such a treat to visit. My friend and I have a bit of a thing where we have the market oysters and a drink whenever we venture to that London. We've never been let down. The oysters are at least lovely, usually better. The service is good, the atmosphere busy

Every time I come to London this is a must stop. I have always been pleased with the food and service. This time the food was good as expected but the service below standard. Initial reception was cold and frosty and the subsequent service team were not at all friendly,unless you spoke Spanish or a regular. Certainly wasn’t worth the 12-15% tip they added to my bill. Love the borough market area but sadly we’re going to look for another regular stop.

Enjoyed the Happy Hour £1 Oysters (Mon-Wed 3-6pm). They were delicious. Also tried the croquettes 😋

Excellent service from the team, warm welcome on entering to recommendations on drink/food pairings which was extremely helpful as we had different food preferences and appetites. The food was exceptional, flavour, quality and presentation were very good and excellent value. The £1 oyster deal went down particularly well and we can’t wait to come back!

When I visited, I was informed by a staff member that there was no Coke available. However, the same staff member later stopped me at the door and refused to let me enter the premises. Their behavior was not only rude but also felt discriminatory, which left me feeling humiliated and unwelcome. I strongly believe that no one should face such treatment, and I urge you to investigate this incident. Discrimination and unprofessional behavior can harm your establishment’s reputation and are deeply concerning for customers.

Nestled in the heart of Borough market, standing out amongst the trendy food stalls and high end restaurants is no easy feat. Wright brothers not only stands out, but excels. With outstanding food, excellent service and their ‘£1 a pop’ oyster deal on top, you have a recipe for a truly memorable meal. Arriving just after 5pm on a Monday evening, we were lucky to grab a table for two in an already packed restaurant, despite not having a booking. With less than an hour left on the oyster deal, the mission was simple - how many could we get through before time ran out? As soon as we opened the menu it became clear that sticking to just oysters would be impossible. A wide selection of seafood called out to us, and we just couldn’t resist. We ordered a 1/2 pint of Atlantic prawns alongside a trio of salt cod and crab croquettes (adding an extra one for good measure) alongside our first round of 8 oysters. The croquettes were sensational. Crisp on the outside and packed with a rich, flavourful filling, it’s one of those dishes that will have you thinking about them for days after. The Atlantic prawns served in their shell were a pleasant surprise. Piled high into the half pint, it really felt like you got your money’s worth. With a bowl for the shells and a lemon water bath to rinse your fingers, the dish was messy but entirely worth it. The real star of the show were the oysters. I’d been unimpressed by oysters in the past, but if there was ever a chance to change my mind, this was it. The platter arrived, beautifully presented on crushed ice with accompaniments of shallots in vinegar, Tabasco and lemon wedges. I was blown away. The taste was like nothing I’d tried before: juicy, briny and bursting with flavour, I was instantly hooked. We polished off the first 8 in no time and before long had another 6 on the table, bringing our final total to 14, and at just £1 each they were absurdly good value. The service was just as impressive as the food. Our waitress was an absolute delight. She was warm, funny and attentive, making sure to check in regularly. Service was very quick yet professional - If you ever want a reminder of what great customer service is, this is exactly it. Between the food, drinks and service charge the bill came to about £60, value that is incredibly hard to come by in central London these days. Whether you’re a seafood enthusiast or a shellfish novice, there’s something here for everyone. I cannot wait to return and explore what else the menu has to offer, but one thing’s for sure: I’ll be back, Tabasco in hand, with a craving for oysters, eager to dive in to some of the freshest seafood London has to offer.

I come from a coastal Mediterranean town and consider myself quite experienced when it comes to seafood. Naturally, we ordered the timeless oysters and prawns as mains, accompanied by a side of chips and a delicious cod and mayonnaise sauce with boiled egg. What can I say? The oysters were as delightful as ever. It felt like tasting the sea itself! They brought me back to the familiar places of home. Incredibly affordable at just £1 each. The prawns were exceptionally flavourful and wonderfully meaty. I had to ask about their origin because, compared to many varieties I’ve tried from different countries, their quality-to-price ratio is outstanding. The staff made us feel like neighbours, treating us with kindness and warmth. This remains my favourite seafood restaurant. Thank you to everyone, especially Luana!

Love love love!!! This restaurant is a gem, offering incredibly fresh oysters that are a treat for any seafood lover. The trout I had was perfectly cooked and seasoned, showcasing their expertise in flavor balance. I got a bar seat (luckily) since I didn't have reservation and they were pretty packed. So you'd better book a table in advance.

Service isn't friendly enough (Spanish speaking women working there) to warrant the 12.5% service charge. It's a high stress job and needs someone with a better mood to deliver friendly service under the obvious pressure. Nevertheless a nice enough experience for the 1£ oyster happy hour.

I’m taking it as a good sign that I only remembered to take one picture, but the food was delicious; I got the sea bass, croquettes and cod cheeks. Everything was great, and especially loved the buttery brown crab croquettes. Make sure to check out their specials menu, as 3 out of 4 dishes ordered were off there! Would also suggest getting a Bloody Mary, as it comes with an oyster ;-) Finished it all off with a scoop of mango and raspberry sorbet - yum!

Food is absolutely delicious with a good selection on the menu and a wide choice of dish of the day. Downside is it’s cramped with small tables. Would definitely go back.

Real food, attentive service, great ambience

We stopped off here whilst at Borough Market for some sparkling wine. This was the worst experience of my adult life from a service perspective. My friend sat down near the door and I approached the bar. A very friendly staff member was talking me through their selection of British Sparkling wine. I ordered and then another lady came over and said very rudely shouting “What are you doing here? You cant sit here unless you eat” (she didn’t ask if we wanted a menu), “if your having drinks only please sit on the street outside”. We proceeded to order lunch. I paid the bill (£176) and my friend came to join us, I asked if we could move to a larger table (so he could order lunch) and the same lady said “if he’s only drinking please go outside, go outside now, on the street” (again she didnt even ask if he wanted to order etc). We left immediately. 2 of the 3 staff were very nice, just the shrieking lady was abnormally rude - for no apparent reason. I have never been spoken to or dealt with in this way anywhere, ever.

We took advantage of their £1 per oyster deal that runs through the week until 6 pm. It was already very busy when we got there so we were sat just opposite the kitchen. being newcomers to oyster eating. the waitress was kind enough to explain to us how we need to go about eating this delicacy. We also had mussels for dinner and the obligatory champagne with the oysters. We had a great time here and the oysters were good ..well at least for a first timer I didn’t feel like it was the worst thing. a good vibrant place in the heart of borough market.

Had a great time on Wednesday evening enjoying the £1 oysters deal. Shout out to Maria who served us and was great at recommending their Bloody Mary! As a minor setback, the windows above the kitchen area were open which made It quite cold where we were sitting, but everything else was great!

Great fish and seafood - and friendly enough service. Bar seating is more than a little cosy though. Prices felt a touch high, especially drinks: £14 for a glass of wine (plus service). We shared a small starter of croquetas, had a main and portion of chips each, and a glass of wine - the bill was over £130.

Wright Bros is an underrated gem in Borough Market. With an open kitchen and high dark wood tables, the atmosphere is amazing. The fish is absolutely delicious and the service is top notch. Don’t be put off by the fact it hasn’t gone ‘viral’ like it’s neighbouring restaurants, it’s just as worthy of rave reviews.

Went there, the waitress asked if we have any reservations, and we said no. And she literally walked by us and opened the door and threw us out.

Was looking for oysters and googled got me this place. Oysters are pretty awesome! Mussels are okay but portion is very generous. We ordered a bit too much and wish the server could give us a nudge when we order food! Well, this is a good food joint but a bit pdicey.

Had sharing platter with brown crab, whelks, 6 oyster,cold prawns shell on,clams, some whelks in shell, mussels in shell. Was good quality one pointer the shell on prawns were way too salty. Had Sardines to start (we shared 4) and cheese board to finish. Bottle of rose and 1/2 of oyster stout. Bill was £171 they add 12.5% service charge. NO VINEGAR AND ONLY BLACK PEPPER what's that all about! How can you have shell fish with no white pepper or vinegar. Shame as it spoilt the platter l!!!

Experienced food poisoning almost immediately after eating here. I spoke with the manager who explained I could follow up with him via email and never heard anything back. Poor quality food and poor quality customer service. Wouldn’t recommend. - To add insult to injury, the food poisoning has developed into a stomach virus. Avoid this place.

Came here today to enjoy some Oyster on their weekly deal of 1£ Oysters from 3PM to 6PM. It was absolutely marvellous! Got some Italian Wine and a few sides! The croquettes were magnificent! We were served by Joanna who did such a great job at setting the atmosphere and making sure we felt comfortable! Thank you so much to the entire team! Will definitely be coming back soon!

My partner and I went there for a seafood meal, taking advantage of the offer on oysters. The atmosphere at the entrance is very pleasant, and Luana immediately put us at ease, explaining the menu with the various options. We obviously ordered oysters, accompanied by a half pint of prawns, the fried breaded whitebait, and a side of chips. The quality of the food was really good, and it was also suggestive to eat in front of the open kitchen. The taste of the oysters was divine, and I think they are the cheapest in all of London. We will definitely be back. Thanks to all the staff and in particular to Luana.

Disgustingly rude front of house staff. We were not sure if we wanted to eat or not. We wanted to start with a glass of port. The waitress seethed at us that we could only stand outside , and tables were strictly for diners . She was less than accommodating. There are ways to share with customers that tables are prioritised for diners only at busier times of the day and to do that with a smile. We will never return, and certainly not recommend .

Fab spot with market fresh fish and seafood. Started with decent cocktails. Beautiful oysters with a Japanese dressing. A lovely ceviche with Blueberries! All starters were generous portions and mains were well cooked and tasty. Definitely recommend.

The seafood in this restaurant is very fresh. The oysters are selected from the British oysters recommended by the restaurant. Other seafood are grilled sardines. In addition, their fish cake is very good. The blue mussels cooked in white wine are a dish I must try in every restaurant in Europe. Dishes, they all do well and the mussels are plump and plump. The waiters explained each ingredient carefully. A restaurant worth recommending.

Visited the restaurant on a busy Saturday evening. The service was friendly and professional and the food was excellent/reasonably priced. Would highly recommend.

The fish was so fresh, well cooked, well presented and tasted amazing. The Waitress was so friendly and knew the menu inside out. Highly recommend going to this restaurant.

Only go if you want food poisoning! Me and my date were wiped out by food poisoning from oysters here, and talking to a chef friend was shocked to find the place is notorious for this! How is it even allowed to stay open? Staff were nice, hopefully they can find jobs elsewhere.

I recently visited and was blown away by the £1 Pop Oysters—absolutely amazing! I could easily order hundreds more. The Crab Courgette was also delightful, and their cocktail menu was impressive. However, the service could use some improvement. Despite having a reservation, I found myself waiting for a table while walk-ins were seated before me, which was frustrating. Better management of reservations would definitely enhance the experience. While the oysters were spectacular and did not disappoint, be prepared for a wait. Service was slow, and I even had to stand with the people in line just to pay the bill. Overall, the food was top-notch, but the service could be more efficient.

We stopped by Wright Brothers at Borough Market just before heading to Heathrow Airport. Sitting outside on a vibrant Saturday noon, the street was bustling with energy and full of people passing by. The combination of fresh oysters and a crisp Chenin Blanc was simply perfect. The lively atmosphere made the lunch even more enjoyable. It was the ideal stop for a final London indulgence before our flight. Highly recommended for a laid-back yet memorable seafood experience!

This restaurant was one of my most favorite restaurants on our trips. We had 2 dozens oysters from Jersey during the happy hours. The fish pie had some great depth too as it was made of at least 2 types of fish. The environment was a little warm, but everything else was spot-on.

Receiving food before drinks not even had the water offered, whatever Tap, Or bottled. It was asked to wait 10 min for the oyster happy hour , which in the end it was not re-proposede . Despite the money which wasn't an issue but We wanted an experience here is W.Bros has failed at this stage. Lots to impove.

I really enjoyed eating here, but I wasn't expecting a 12.5% service charge to be added. I understand they could tell I wasn’t from the UK, but adding this charge without informing me doesn’t feel right. I paid it because I didn’t want to create an awkward situation, but as a tourist, I know that Im not obligated to pay it. Tourists, be aware—they might add the service charge without mentioning it and put you in an uncomfortable position.

Amazing seafood was such a treat

Long time since I have been here. Still hot, small and busy. No reservation but the friendly staff were very helpful and seated us within a couple of minutes. Good news, the food was excellent. We went with four small plates - cod and crab croquettes, scallops, sea bass ceviche, humous and soda bread and a side of fries. Bad news, on this hot August day, all five draught beers were off and only two out of five canned beers were available, stout and IPA, and they weren’t cold. Pretty poor. Five stars for food and staff, three for virtually no beer. We’ll settle on four.

One of our party got food poisoning after eating at Wright Bros. I let the management team know immediately via the feedback form, and received what I now presume was an automated/copy & paste reply telling me that they "do not take negative feedback lightly" and to allow them to look into it. Unfortunately I have had no response at all since, despite following up twice, so I can only conclude that actually they don't care at all about giving customers food poisoning. We have eaten at multiple locations of Wright Bros in the past but we will not be back. Absolute kick in the teeth to spend £250+ and not even receive the courtesy of an email reply.

When we went there, it was full house and the waitress asked us to wait for the barrel seats. While we were waiting, we saw some people left from the table inside the restaurant but the waitress said the tables were being reserved. Then we said we won’t stay for long but she insisted that we have to wait for the barrel seat. Then we waited for around 20min for the seat and we only got 2 stools for 3 people. It was not a pleasant feeling of standing and having oysters. (Nobody came for the reserved tables at least 10 min after we finished and paid our bill) We went there at happy hour time as we wanna try the £1/oyster. We ordered a dozen of oysters and all of them were very small. The taste of the oysters was normal but quite disappointing. We also ordered a white wine recommended by the waitress which was £46. We think that was quite overpriced.

We stopped here for a spot of lunch after wandering round Borough Market and what a find. We hadn’t booked so sat on one of their barrel tables out the front. We had champagne, oysters, prawns and sardines and everything was delicious. The staff were knowledgable, nothing was too much trouble and the service was excellent. We actually went on a few of their recommendations for what we ordered and were delighted by their choices. Thank you for a delicious lunch! A real highlight of our trip.

This is the one. If you like fish and lively feeling place then you eat here, it’s that simple. Food is awesome, drinks are awesome (especially the Bloody Mary) and the atmosphere is great.

We thought some of the fish dishes were fully priced but found good value at lunchtime with the Mussels and Spaghetti Vongole. Service was efficient, don’t arrive before Noon as they will turn you away, wont allow you to sit down. Suitable for casual meal, place has no atmosphere.
