Butlers Wharf Chop House in Southwark

Had lunch here today, I was surprised to see just how bad the service had worsened, frankly it was always poor but today the restaurant could not have been more than 15% capacity and it was constantly necessary to ask for wine refills orders etc, it took them 15mins to make a Bloody Mary . I ordered the traditional roast beef which arrived looking excellent but was extremely tough and I had to return it, two other members of my party were too embarrassed to return there’s and simply didn’t eat it. I asked an Italian manager if we could sit outside to have drinks after our meal and he rudely told me it was all booked, so we just went outside anyway and he scowered at us and there we sat un molested. Two lovely guys outside a Russian and and Uzbek both attentive and fun but frankly I would never visit there again, o and the bill for this was 850 for this inconvenience

Lovely little place next to the Thames. It has beautiful views to relax with a drink. Good, attentive service. We only had drinks and they were the kind of price you would expect in the area but we're reasonable. Very nice atmosphere, highly recommended!

Booked table over a week ago only to turn up for a Sunday Roast with my family only to be seated and then told they have run out of Sunday roasts!

Really disappointed with my experience at Butler’s Wharf. I won’t be going again anytime soon. I’ve lived on the river (close to shad Thames/south side) for nearly 5 years. Post-covid me and my fiance would regularly go for Sunday roasts, and more generally eat there on other special occasions. I’ve always complimented the venue for their service, atmosphere, and great food - especially the high quality meat (mainly steak dishes). I visited on Sunday, 13th April (for the first time in very long time) - the service was so poor. I could quickly sense that the restaurant has changed their management, and perhaps their ownership. The gentleman serving us could barely understand my questions - I asked for non alcoholic beer (which is stated on the drinks menu) to which he replied “I don’t think or don’t know if we sell this - is other beer okay?” he then went on to access the 0% peroni, and served it warm. With regards to the roast dinner itself - the quality of the gravy was abysmal, and really watery. The menu looked like it had subtle changes. There was no cauliflower cheese. I’ve had better mash potato at Nando’s. The sirloin beef tasted dry. At best, the Yorkshire pudding was dry and average. Ultimately you’re charged a premium at Butler’s Wharf - and the reality in terms of staff service and food quality, they’re operating in the realms below a pub level. I won’t be coming back here anytime soon.

The best restaurants near Tower Bridge — with stunning bridge view and a fantastic atmosphere. We arrived just a minute after the kitchen had closed, but the team still welcomed us, gave us time to choose, and the chef kindly prepared all four dishes we wanted. The hospitality was truly exceptional, and the food was absolutely delicious. Prices are very reasonable too. Highly recommended, especially during the spring and summer months when the view is at its best! 💜

Overall, an underwhelming experience. We had dinner service on a Wednesday night. We were greeted promptly and professionally as soon as we came in the door and shown to our table. The place was mostly empty. My wife had the lamb, which she said was fine, but I got the filet and it was just not good. Overall the food was very bland. Our server seemed indifferent but he wasn't rude. They did put a service charge on the bill. As we left, we thought the place might be empty because a lot of regulars were on holiday, but we walked past two restaurants with overflow crowds within 5 minutes of leaving. This place is too expensive and there are too many other options nearby. I would not recommend.

Yummm… the food was delicious! The espresso martini was too! You also have an amazing view of the Towers Bridge. So pretty!

Well that was an experience to say the least. Ordered the lunch time deal that is all the rage on social media. A 200g steak with 1 accompanying side for £19.50. Once my food arrived after waiting 45 minutes in an almost empty restaurant, I was confused by the meal, as nothing on my plate resembled anything that had been advertised online by the restaurant. The steak was cremated, tasteless and cheap (see below for comparison photos of their social media and the meal I was served). On the booking I made the venue aware that there was a birthday present, which them accommodated for… with last weeks chocolate brownie, could’ve also been a doorstop. Don’t believe what social media shows you, utterly disappointed, falsely advertised and will not recommend nor return.

It's a very big shop, but it was very empty when we went there. We wanted goat cheese salad to start, but there were a few greens and goat cheese. So the salad name is wrong. We ordered chateaubriand for me and my son, it said 600 grams but I think there was only 300/400 grams of meat. The meat arrived cold and wasn't very good. I think it's quite expensive food for £90. We ordered steak. It wasn't very good considering the price benefit either. We ate quickly, paid a high bill, but we didn't get what we wanted. I think it's too touristy and not good. If you want to try it, try it. The daytime view and appeal may be different. The lady serving was very nice.

Tuve que terminar una llamada de negocios ya que el personal era tan descarado y ruidoso. ¡Honestamente los animales en el zoológico de Londres se comportan mejor! Lo abordé con el gerente de turno que se rió y luego se disculpó cuando desafié su reacción. Dijo que el personal no estaba acostumbrado a que la gente estuviera aquí, ¡qué respuesta tan extraña! Un restaurante que suele estar bastante ocupado tenía más moscas de la fruta 🪰 que clientes. Incluso se equivocaron en el orden de postres... evitar muchos restaurantes mucho mejores en Bermondsey Street.

A cold, expensive and disappointing experience on Valentines day. Booked the "cosy, warm, heated outside hut", to be met with a cold hut and a broken heater. I read a review from weeks ago which had the same experience and hoped they would have fixed the heater (they replied to this review explaining it was fixed). I had to be persistent in requesting an indoor table as it was bitterly cold outside. After 10 minutes of waiting we were sat inside. Once inside we waited 20 minutes for our orders to be taken. The food took a while to arrive, the main course came disjointed from the sides with 10 minutes of waiting for our sides as the steak cooled off (having already arrived to the table tepid warm, not hot...) An incorrect side was brought to the table, and another was missing. We requested the food to be corrected as it was cold, it was returned to us mildly warmer, perhaps it was put beneath a heat lamp. The head of house was not empathetic or understanding. Whilst waiting for our food to be returned hot, no waiter offered to take drink orders despite our glasses being clearly empty. We tried to get their attention but it was a struggle, eventually we made an order of drinks as they brought out the reheated side dishes bit by bit. The food tasted good, however the best steak when eaten cold is still a cold steak. I explained upon arriving that I had prepaid on booking, the bill arrived without this and had to be corrected. We spotted 2 others who sat waiting for 40 minutes at an empty table. Another table left due to the very long wait for their food, their table remained uncleaned, napkins on floor, untouched food on table for about an hour. Despite it being valentine's day the restaurant was not particularly busy, we obseverved multiple couples leave without having eaten after waiting for many minutes without service. Overall a terrible experience considering the high price, but they gave us a glass of house wine free so that makes it ok?...

Exceptional view of the Thames quays and bridges

Attended on Valentine’s Day The initial atmosphere seemed nice very welcoming, however as the night got on it became worse the valentines menu was limited on reflection should have ordered al a carte, we got a different server half way through the dinner, the shrimp were not good at all. Whats gone wrong here? Have come on and off for pver 20years snd never had a bad experience until today. Freezing cold restaurant where guests sat in coats and scarves didnt bode well. Ordered two Sunday roasts and sent both back as cold. Quite incredible as we were first in the restaurant almost. Second try wasnt much better, beef a touch undercooked and grisly, veg still cold. Roast potatoes were good, Yorkshire was good but again cold. At 30gbp for a roast this is a must avoid. I live locally less than 2 minutes from the restaurant, but i can see from the other reviews here in the last year, that the restaurant has lost its way for some reason. Kings Arms down the road much better and much cheaper

Mientras que la comida estaba bien y el personal agradable, el ambiente era pobre empeorado aún más por la temperatura muy fría en el comedor. Habíamos dejado nuestros abrigos en recepción y rápidamente nos dimos cuenta de que era un gran error y vimos que los otros comensales estaban bien envueltos en sus anoraks!

I rarely give bad reviews on one restaurant apart from this one. My boyfriend and I booked the restaurant for Valentine’s Day and hoped for a great experience. But the set menu is not great at all. The seafood is not fresh (prawn meat has stick to the shell) and the portion is very small. Starter is basically the same quality as from Tesco coz they all fried with mayo sauce. And even the steak sauce is too small portion, after our complain they give us extra, to note it’s 100 average per person. I don’t mind a bit premium over Valentine’s Day knowing it’s busy, but we def won’t come back and never recommend

Sunday roast was excellent. Would definitely recommend both the beef and chicken. Service was good. Custard on the crumble was not hot which was a shame as otherwise a very good Sunday lunch.

Great service as always. Menu choices had good variety (though I always go for the fillet!) It might seem like a few quid for dinner, but the people, location and quality of food are worth it as a treat.

Been coming here for the last 30 years - great position. Restaurant is a bit tired. Our waiter & waitress were excellent, along with the lady at reception. Choice of food pretty limited - but was ok. Didn’t like the fact we couldn’t have a drink at the bar because someone had reserved that area..

Poor service, with a constant need to ask. Nothing against the young man serving, but clearly hasn’t been trained, particularly for a large party. Seemed to want to sell as much as possible, which I’d assume he taught to do. Has a management issue.

Sadly, I was upset with how the premises looked. After having such lovely memories from the past. I completely understand the entertainment industry is far from how it once was. However it doesn’t excuse the experience we had today. My steak and the side dish of spinach was served like warm. This was strange as there was just one other table that was dining there. How was this not hot? The chips were very hot which was good however they were not nice they were overcooked. They were greasy, it was weird. I didn’t return the steak as my husband suggested as I thought the time it comes back my husband would have finished his meal so I just ate it. I told the waiter as I was eating ,and he apologised. When the bill arrived the waiter presented the bill and said if I didn’t want to pay for my meal he would take it off the bill. I said I wasn’t happy at all However he didn’t take it off the bill, he just presented me with the card reader with the full amount. Just a half hearted offer😞. Thinking about it now I should have refused. Apart from the food the place is in a desperate need of refurbishment. It looks filthy in there. It needs painting it was so cold, I can’t believe how the company can actually think this is ok. There is a glass petition between kitchen and dining area. The glass was absolutely filthy. I was dying to use the loo but was put off by the state of the restaurant. So we paid and walked along to all bar one and had a drink in the warmth and used the loo. I really really hope chop house see my review and sort it out. Such a lovely location and I want to go back and enjoy!

Came back to the Chop House after a disappointing experience last visit. I’m so glad I did. We enjoyed our dinner food was very good and the fillet was cooked perfectly. I only gave 4 stars because I wish there were more vegetable side options. Overall would recommend this for a nice night out with great views of Tower Bridge

This was my first dining experience at The chophouse, it won't be our last. We dined as a group of Five on New Year's eve and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. The service was excellent, with polite and friendly staff. The food was excellent, I had a Ribeye steak with chips and chimichuri My friend ate the Lamb shank which I did have food envy as it looked delicious. We unfortunately didn't sample the dessert options as we had filled ourselves with our meals. Good beverage selection with collection of different spirits and wines available.

The service was very good. The atmosphere was nice and bright, great iew of Tower Bridge. Food was expensive and mediocre.

We had dinner booked outside but it was cold so we asked to be moved inside. Super kind service for this, no issues. Meat was amazing but sides and desserts were average. Unfortunately long waiting time.

The service was excellent, we were well-attended, and staff made us feel welcome. The drinks were great, and the oysters were delicious. We had fillet steak, but both of the steaks had been burnt on the outside, far more than would be enjoyed or expected. We have both had steaks in many restaurants in many countries and this was the first time we had encountered this. The sides were almost perfect: the creamy mash is a crowd-pleaser, however the mac and cheese was a bit oily (probably from the cheese topping). All in all, we will return as they did far more right than wrong!

Very expensive lunch and was okay. I hate to leave less than 5 but this team could shape up a little. The lunch we booked in one of the winter season huts was very expensive and just okay. We had two people helping us, one we felt we had to tip toe with as he seemed grumpy, the other was very kind and helpful. We asked several times if the lights could be turned on and the heater activated, they never did. Then told us they were broken, as we departed we noticed several other vacant canopy tables like ours vacant, lit up and heated. Why didn’t they move us? The restaurant was 15% occupied on a Saturday lunch. Maybe I see why now. The view is beautiful and the pork chop was delicious.

So we could have moved to another booth, but we were never given that option. We asked multiple times if we could get the heat and lights on and not once were we offered to move to a work booth. The food was very good, but difficult to enjoy with the ruined experience. See my pictures for the food and lack of lights and heat. The manager on duty was also very rude to us from the moment we sat down. He was serving us initially but there was obviously something wrong. He barely spoke to us and responded without any tone in his voice. We will never be back here and I would highly caution anyone who is booking here, to expect poor service, and do not book the outdoor hut experience.

The food was very good but the service was terrible. I eat out regularly and this was the worse service that I’ve experienced. We waited 30 minutes for our starter, then another 30 minutes for our main and 40 minutes for our dessert . Myself and my partner were in there for well over 3 hours for a meal . As I said the food was 7/10 , service 3/10 and that’s being generous.

Disappointing Christmas Dinner Experience at The Chophouse We had high expectations for our Christmas Day dinner at The Chophouse, having enjoyed previous visits, but unfortunately, this experience fell short in almost every way. For £140 per head, we expected a festive meal that matched the high standards this restaurant usually delivers, but what we received was laughably underwhelming. One member of our party ordered the Beef Wellington with truffle mash, which was the only highlight of the meal. The beef was nicely cooked, but unfortunately, the mash was cold, which dampened the experience. Two of us had the turkey roulade, accompanied by a roast potato. The turkey arrived cold, with a portion size that was more suited to a tasting menu than a hearty Christmas dinner. The roast potato was a disaster—cold, undercooked, and nearly impossible to cut into. When we raised this issue, the staff brought a single replacement roast potato, which, to their credit, was perfectly cooked and hot, but it was far too little, far too late. The overall presentation of the dishes was impressive, but the quantity of food and the lack of attention to temperature made the meal feel completely unsuitable for a festive celebration. Three Brussels sprouts and a single medallion of roast potato simply do not constitute a Christmas dinner. While service was polite, the experience left us disappointed and regretting the decision to dine here on such a special occasion. This visit starkly contrasted with the high-quality meals we’ve enjoyed here in the past during regular operations. Sadly, this Christmas dinner will be remembered for all the wrong reasons.

As a family we had Prime meats with sides. Food was excellent and service was good.

This was a meal to celebrate my son’s 16th birthday. The food was fantastic and all of the family really enjoyed what they picked. The service was poor and we had to ask over and over for the most basic things like sauces or another drink. Value for money is OK as we really enjoyed the meal apart from the Cheeseburger which comes without fries and so together is £26 for a very basic meal for my 13 year old. The lamb and roasts were all very good. We enjoyed the meal but £450 for 4 adults and 3 children with very few drinks and poor service isn’t great.

Special shoutout to Igor! He’s brilliant absolutely delightful!! As for the other lady who initially served us with the short hair (I didn’t catch her name), she was awful and quite unaccommodating. My partner is veg and there weren’t any veg sandwiches on the winter huts she didn’t help at all! Whereas Igor was fantastic! He brought out a veg hot pot which was really nice!! The turkey sandwich was delicious And the hot chocolate was lovely!!!

The venue was lovely however, our steaks were exceptionally bloody for medium and so we sent back (waited fifteen minutes) only for them to be returned looking very charred on the outside and the same inside swimming in blood. My daughter and friend were, at this point, put off by the amount of blood dripping from the plate and left nearly all of it. Also, we know it's London but to receive no accompanying sides with the steak without paying £6 additional for chips, £6 for veg, etc. Experience meal for little they could eat.

The food is good. the sitting area is not prepared for large group. the service is slow but they recoverd at the end by asking the whole staff including receptionist to serve us. It is good you do but this shows that it is understaffed. The steak was very good, the mushroum was over cooked, the triple cooked potato was nice. They have beer 0% Alcohol which is nice. The staff are friendly and do everthing to help. The view is very good.

Terrible Service! Such a shame because the food was outstanding.

Very quite for a lunch time before xmas - ordered a steak well done and was told the reason for the wait was due to the steak taking longer to cook - we said no issue . My well done steak then arrived pink and bloody in the middle- the mac and cheese was tepid temperature and not really baked on the top , the chips and creamed spinach were tasty. Used to like it here but definitely wont be rushing back

The view from the restaurant is breathtaking, especially around the holiday season. Our servers were fantastic - however our table was quite disappointed with the food. The burgers were undercooked, and we got quite sick afterward. For the price the value was not there at all, especially with the steaks our other guests ordered. Would only recommend this for the views, or a quick drink.

The food was OK but a lovely vibe and had a great night. It was my boyfriend’s birthday and then did bring out a cake on the house which was lovely! I’d definitely go back :)

We always love coming here but it would be good if they would answer messages on here as I asked if the steaks were gluten and dairy free. The menu also unfortunately doesn’t state if it’s gluten and dairy free. I did ask the waiter and he was going to find out but as it’s Christmas and it was so busy and noisy in the restaurant, I declined and stuck to a drink whilst the others ate. Could you please reflect on your menu if anything is gluten and dairy free and could you please state on the menu if the steaks can be made gluten/dairy free. It saved time, effort and misunderstandings. Thank you.

I understand this is a meat restaurant, but I am a vegetarian who attended with 10 other meat eating friends. I ordered the only vegetarian dish on the menu - a vegetable pot pie in a ‘creamy herb sauce’ from the ‘mains’ section. What arrived was essentially a TINY portion of chickpea and kidney bean stew in a tomato sauce with a pastry cylinder on top, served to me in a small bowl. I had not been warned that you would need to order your own sides by the waiter and so had no potatoes, salad etc. I didn’t order anything additional as everybody’s food had arrived and frankly I felt mortified to have drawn attention to it. I am absolutely horrified that this cost £22 when a roast with meat and all trimmings cost my friends £28. There was absolutely nothing special about my dish that could warrant it costing that much, all ingredients in my meal were low-cost and something I could whip up quite easily at home. In addition, we ordered drinks which took 40 minutes to arrive - had to order them multiple times as it seemed they’d forgotten, but then multiples were delivered at random intervals. I know December is a busy time but the service we received was so sub-par and should have been much better when paying for high-end food. Roasts don’t arrive with gravy and had to be ordered separately - that said, my friends seemed to be satisfied with their food and the sticky toffee pudding was delicious if you’re willing to spend £10. On behalf of the veggie/vegan friends who don’t want to be excluded at gatherings - please bring some more inclusive and exciting dishes to your menu for us. It’s not difficult!

Delicious roast; great views, lovely staff, a bit loud in the restaurant but overall a brilliant experience!

First the location is amazing right by the Thames overlooking Tower Bridge. The restaurant itself is a sprawling wooden interior with tastefully decorated dining area. The wait staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. The food was out of this world and the cocktails are top notch. I am definitely coming back for a second round!

The food was off the scale delicious. The staff were friendly and funny. The restaurant itself lacked a bit of atmosphere due to decorative but we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Our waitress was exceptionally helpful and had a smile on her face. Sorry I didn’t get her name

Always had excellent food experiences at The Chop House, the menu has changed and there is a lot less to choose from. Unfortunately when we ate on Saturday 14th December our side dishes were nearly cold, we didnt complain as we all wanted to eat our food together. Maybe the sides had been parked up for a while.. Servers were very attentive, and we will come back.

While the food was ok and the staff were pleasant , the service was just too slow. The cost of the starters aren’t worth it. The porterhouse steak is well prepared and the sides weee also very good. Don’t bother with the puddings, better off going to a pub and getting it done how it’s meant to be. Last issue was waiting 20 mins to receive the bill and a further 15 to pay. Extremely noisy in there as sound bounces around the restaurant but for me it’s ok.

We couldn’t fault the service, food or restaurant. It was noisy but then it was a weekend near Christmas.

The staff was great and very accommodating. The venue is beautiful and sitting outside in the huts was super fun. The food is not great. Steaks were overcooked and no flavor

Great food and lovely setting. We had a Virgin voucher and couldn't swap the bottle of prossecco for soft drinks, which is the only reason for a star loss on service. Food was great, especially the tartar.

I cannot fault the food, that was amazing, but maybe a little pricey. But the location, and the view of Tower Bridge is probably why it was a little more expensive than other establishments that are just as good. There was a large group of middle aged men being loud and obnoxious, but thankfully they were leaving not long after we had arrived. The waiter let down the entire service however, he corked our bottle of wine and didn't offer to replace it. And he was also a little pushy whilst we were eating which said to me he was trying to rush us out of there, despite us being well within our two hour slot (I think we'd been there a little after an hour). Trying to take plates when one of us hadn't finished, rushing over with a dessert menu when we were still chewing the food of our main. So that does take a star out of the whole experience. But, the food was amazing and thoroughly recommend.

Requested festive menu on booking only to be told on the night we couldn’t have it as it had to be pre ordered so why didn’t you contact me to let me know. Even called the restaurant week before to change reservation numbers I asked do I need to pre order “no need to do this madam” very disappointed

I hired the bar area with some friends for a celebration and can't thank the team enough for making it such an incredible event. From our first greeting, to the amazing cocktails created and served by Ed, to the kindness and helpfulness of every member of the team we encountered, not to mention the unbelievable views and location, everything was just perfect. Such a fun place to be with fantastic wines and food too!

I booked a table for 12 people to celebrate my birthday. The staff were very attentive and we were left to chat after eating a delicious Sunday lunch. We had one long table that was separated from the rest of the restaurant with a big window with views over the Thames. It was just perfect.

We had Christmas dinner for all University friends and then some drinks in the evening. Really lovely food, great atmosphere the staff were really friendly and accommodating. Also amazing view as well. One of my favourite places in London. Great job guys. Thanks for yesterday.

We enjoyed great meat with a great service and friendly staff.

I was shocked. I came for my birthday and my friend ordered a medium rare steak, came to us as fully rare and freshly bleeding. We asked to cook it further and it came back more or less the same. The steaks are small on a large plate and the value isn’t really worth it. The waiter was quite blunt so didn’t really care much about helping us. I also added a comment during my reservation about my birthday and they didn’t do anything, until we complained to the manager about everything that happened. We just left. Never coming back. The view is great but everything else is sadly awful

Amazing restaurant with amazing location

Me and my wife have eaten at the chop house for many years! This time was not as enjoyable as previous visits, service, food and value were poor. Very disappointing.
