Lovely pub, restaurant was an accidental fund and a welcome stop on our drive from Southampton to Bridport. Lovely hatched building and interior was tastefully done and in keeping with the history of the area. Standard pub fare and additional specials did not leave us lacking in choice. Pricing was about right. Risotto Nero with hake and samphire well seasoned, pea and mint risotto was a good portion, fish and chips fresh and standout dish was miso aubergine with butternut purée. Plenty of outdoor seating in courtyard garden, available parking and garden had spots for camping. Well worth a stop.

Enjoyed a very nice Sunday lunch and afternoon here in early August. As a party of 4, one who is gluten intolerant, we all could enjoy a fulfilling and tasty roast dinner, with some equally good beer and drinks. The team managed the allergy very well. All the staff are friendly, smiley and very considerate. The landlord/lady sets the tone, which is continued throughout the service, which is not rushed (too often the case in many restaurants now) and provides a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. The changes made to The World’s End have complemented the pub, with a large and smart patio and nice large garden/field to enjoy whatever your age. Can highly recommend, and we will be back.

We wanted somewhere to park up for the night with our Campervan and was so pleased to have come across The World's End. No charge to stop if you purchased something to eat/drink in the pub, and it would appear there were a few of us there doing the same thing - why wouldn't you? Food was great - one of us had fish and chips and the other a lovely Caesar salad washed down with a local ale and some cider. It was busy, the staff were constantly on the go, but were very friendly and helpful - nothing was too much trouble. The bonus was having a dedicated toilet and shower facility for those who had pitched up. The power of the shower was better than many hotels we have stayed in (always a benchmark for us lol) and proper toilets. One observation was those that use it need to take a bit more care in tidying up after themselves as It is obvious lots of work has gone into providing this, and it would be a shame for it to be taken away due to abuse! Would definitely pay another visit when we are in the area - even if not stayng over.

This is a lovely thatched pub with friendly staff, good food and a large carpark. Even though the pub was full when we left and plenty of people in the garden there was still ample parking. We stopped in randomly on our way back from Southampton for lunch and luckily they could fit us in the main bar area as we arrived early. It seems very popular with lots of later arrivals but everyone we saw arrive were able to get a table in the garden once the main restaurant and bar area were full. It was very dog friendly as well. Our roast meals were great and well cooked with a large selection of veg. The children enjoyed a burger and chicken and chips meal. The desserts were great too. We’ll definitely be booking and visiting again.

Brilliant family meal. The food was amazing, we were a large party but had good meals all round. I’m allergic to dairy and ordered the gnocchi dish but after checking, the waitress said that it did contain dairy. The waitress gave me several other options of different dishes or the same with a bit of a twist. I went for the same dish but with linguini instead of gnocchi, it was delicious! I also very much enjoyed the Dorset cremant sparkling wine & it was on offer of two glasses for one. I did think the food looked a bit pricy but after eating there, I get why now! Excellent quality. We’ll be back for sure.

My second review on this great pub/restaurant. Once again the food was great and the service first class. The two waitresses on duty were attentive and efficient. (Evening of 12/06/24 if the manager wants to pass on the praise) Our dog was treated well with immediate iced water and treats! We use this as a regular journey breaker when travelling home to Devon and it never fails to deliver. We’ve recommended it to friends and family who have all enjoyed the experience. Friendly young staff let down by dismal tasteless food. I knew it was going to be disappointing when the starter turned up, a pile of mushrooms on a soggy brioche, with poached egg. The star of the lunch by far was the half pint of stout.

This pub can be hit and miss; it has never been the same standard as The Elm Tree (another pub that was in their chain) but it is generally good. We were there for a family get together last night and it was really quiet. Starters were OK but not amazing for the price point. The main courses were three pork belly and a lamb dish from the specials. The lamb was literally raw (and we like our lamb nice and pink but this was cold and grim) and the pork belly on one dish was literally a slab of crackling. When we complained the waiter agreed and we suggested it was either replaced or we wouldn’t pay for that serving. He disappeared and took 15 minutes to come back by which time it was cold and others had eaten. He then stated that it was great news as the kitchen was now closed (it was 8pm) so I could have the meal for free. I wasn’t as delighted as he thought I would be. He meant well I think ! The staff were sitting by the till talking and it there was no asking if we wanted more drinks , we had to go up and ask and then ask again for the bill etc . This wasn’t the usual standard at this pub and a lot worse than the normal standard in this family of pubs.

We chose to go to The Worlds End with a group of friends who were staying near by as it was open on a Monday. We arrived on a very cold day and were shown to a table at the far end of the pub which had a large fireplace but no fire, it was very cold. The menu offered only two choices of meat dishes - burger or sausages, the gammon was not available. We went to look at the specials board but again no meat, that had also been deleted, just a hake dish. We chose haddock and chips from the main menu - very disappointing, thick batter which was cooked to a deep brown - I.e. overcooked. We declined a pudding and ordered coffee, again very disappointing, so strong and bitter and none of us could drink it. Plus points - nice building and the girl who served us was also nice. We will not however be going there again.

Very disappointing meal. Restaurant freezing cold, we had to eat with our coats on and noticed the only 4 other people in the pub were the same, it was freezing and quite uncomfortable. Main meal very average and not cheap. Very few desserts to choice from so we all opted for a hot drink instead. We have to return all hot drinks as were Luke warm. Hot chocolate was watery and not pleasant. None of us would choose to revisit this pub.

I've just read the review I wrote some years ago about The Word's End - it was very positive! We often enjoyed a meal there in the 'old days'. Since Covid-19 we haven't been back, but decided last evening that it would be a good pub to enjoy a rare treat out We were surprised to learn that it was no longer a Hall & Woodhouse inn, but the welcome was warm and the staff friendly. Our drinks arrived ....sadly the first course did not follow until nearly 50 minutes after our arrival. The saddle of lamb was delicious and perfectly cooked. We ordered a dessert, but after another wait of 40 minutes we had to cancel it and leave. We're not expecting fast food, but it was nearly two hours from our arrival to when we left.. Such a shame, as we would like to make this a regular watering hole, but the service needs to be quicker.

We stopped for a Sunday roast and took advantage of their incredible space outdoors ( it was that day it didn't rain!), large tables catering for large groups, smaller for smaller, brollies for shade, money well spent here! play area for the tiny ones. The world’s end has always been one of my partners favourite pubs but when he suggested we go on our week off I was a bit dubious - despite the gorgeous location as a hall and woodhouse the food was always mass produced and not fantastic. When I checked the website and saw it had changed hands I was more intrigued and I could see from the new menu that it might have improved. We were greeted by really friendly young staff and shown to our table quickly. The menu was rightfully more expensive than a chain but 100% reasonable for the quality of the food we (quickly but not so quickly that we could doubt it has been made directly for us) received, you could just tell it was fresh and high quality. From the side salad to the fresh bread from my fave local bakery le petit prince it was all just gorgeous. Every single member of staff was friendly and chatty without being overbearing and it was such a lovely experience. We will definitely be back. Any negative reviews on here clearly don’t appreciate the independent ethics of this place which is something Dorset’s pubs are sorely lacking. Also, the sandwich was MASSIVE.

The beer selection is superb and the service is immaculate. I was having trouble deciding what beer to order so a member of staff brought out a small selection of tasters on a tray for me to try, a very welcome gesture. We were greeted on arrival by the manager, who we recognised from her previous appointment, and shown to an outside table. Though they were pleasantly busy we had a choice of tables. A drinks order was quickly taken. We then realised that we had chosen a table in the shade and asked if it was ok to switch to one in the sun. No problem. Ellie and Sam looked after us with a very nice level of interaction. We had a mixture of ales and soft drinks and a selection of starters, all of which were good. Clearly only interested in passing trade which is sad since we have recently moved to the area and thought this place could be a regular haunt. Ordered charcuterie board of sliced meats, olives and focaccia for £16, but mistakenly initially only came with olives and focaccia priced at £4. No problem the waiter apologised and went to get our correct order. Back came the same bread and olives but to our astonishment the £12 of meat consisted of 4 razor thin rings of chorizo, 4 razor thin rings of salami (each about the diameter of a 10p piece) and 4 miserably small slices of dried and tasteless Palma ham. We could have complained but life is too short, we will vote with our feet . Very mean.

We did the little circular walk, which starts and ends at the pub. The pub itself is beautiful, inside and out. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Shout out to Dan (The best barman in the world) and Zoe! And to everyone else there, apologies I didn't catch all your names. The service was very good, the food was lovely (bit more sourdough crostini with the baked Camembert would be a simple but really good touch) and the beer was very nice too! Literally cannot find fault in anything. So thank you all at the World's End in Almer, we will be recommending you to friends and family and will be returning when we can for certain!!! 5 stars!

They have just opened this week so you expect them to be on the ball. Unfortunatly not, we arrived early Friday evening to be offered high priced drinks followed by a good menu but again expensive. We were shown to a table which is outside due to the restrictions only to find no patio heaters, however the outside has been tastefully refurbished. Ordered our food, for them to come back to the table 15 minutes later to say they havent got any steaks left (this is 6:30 on a Friday evening), why this isnt pointed out as you are handed the menu or mention there is a possability of them running low i dont know. When the food arrives it is very nice, but once again the size of the meals are very very small. We planned on making an evening of it and support one of our local pubs. Not for us, which is a shame as there are plenty of pubs around here that not only want you to come back but are also cheaper. Wish them luck in their new venture and hope they take this constructively.

Want to how sorry I am for this wonderful pub closed and so sad that our holiday will not include visiting the worlds end this year.Me and the wife have visited dorset twice in 5 years and have always had lunch or evening meal but sadly will miss the lovely food especially the Sunday roast.Hopefully the owners will be able to open in the near future.Feel sorry for the owners who have worked tirelessly to give the area great entertainment and great food.

This was our favourite local pub so very sad to see if has closed down. This was going to be out first trip out after shielding; feels like an awful lot has changed in the last nearly 5 months inside the house. Thanks to everyone there for some fab evenings out in the past and good luck for the future

This pub, at a junction of two roads on our way to Studland o the Dorset coast is an ideal place for a lunch stop. You can't miss it as the whole mighty long roof was being rethatched to a really high standard. We think it should be finished in a couple of weeks time but it makes the pub look a real picture. It is matched inside by some very friendly and helpful staff - despite the late hour of arrival for lunch. Drinks quickly appeared and the light lunches we ordered were delightful. Small interesting starter size portions which suited us or a much bigger array of dishes from the much fuller menu. Most enjoyable and fairly priced.

This is our second time here in 3 months had a email to try new menu before Christmas Monday night and they had very little on the menu my wife wanted to just leave but after driving back for Cornwall we had to eat al they kept saying was not available and so sorry .The reason for my review is we went out with friends last night and didn’t no were they were taking us We were taken to our table buy a not friendly waitress within 5 mins offered drinks and on return asked if ready to order I struggled with choices as nothing said eat me We got our food quick and as soon as finished asked if want desserts wow quick service as if wanted to get rid of us All staff didn’t look happy it was enough to put customers of maybe that’s why it was so quite for a Friday night was hoping for a better experience the second time

Visited the Worlds End for lunch and the whole experience was first class. The pub was warm, cosy and inviting. The menu was extensive and there was a very good specials board. Our food arrived and we were not disappointed, the steak cooked perfectly, the fish pie was first class and the egg and chips cooked to perfection. The chocolate torte was amazing. All in all a very good experience and we will definitely visit again.

We booked a table for lunch on Sunday 26th January, shown to our table by a very professional young man. All the staff were attentive, our food order arrived in good time and was absolutely delicious. The decor is good and very interesting, a roaring log fire welcomed us as we came through the door. All together a delightful experience, which we will be back soon. Full marks all round. Tha Albutt family

Stopped in for lunch as the parking was easy ordered lunch which was £13.95,I had a pie ,mash and vegetables!,the pie was burnt on the outside and cold in the middle, the mash was like a runny purée! The veg was burnt cabbage and bits of ham in it! I felt totally insulted so told the chap behind the bar I wasn’t paying for it but I paid for the coffee and he said that’s fine!,it was like a school canteen with no interest in any of it! Never again.

We called in today on Sunday 26th January, we found it all very clean and comfortable, lovely warm atmosphere, busy with happy and helpful staff. Beer had been kept well, off the menu we chose the mixed platter for two, all very tasty and excellent value!

Such a disappointment to see how this place has deteriorated. It used to be a warm, welcoming place. It now looks old and tired. Food was ok, service well below par and atmosphere was terrible

Me and my husband went in New Year Eve afternoon for a bite before going out celebrating. We had chicken Kiev that was on the specials board and it was gorgeous. Service was friendly and quick and they had a roaring fire going which added to the ambience.

Despite the large sign declaring this to be "Dorset's favourite family pub", our family have to disagree entirely. Being local to the pub, we thought we would pop over with some friends to the World's End this afternoon for a few drinks and nibbles to start off our NYE celebrations, only to be told that all food was off from 4pm and the pub would be closing at 6pm!! The website gives no indication of this change. This is not an isolated incident and has happened to us before. What sort of place is this, seeming to make up the opening hours according to if the Managers feel like opening. Not what we expect from Hall & Woodhouse.I remember when this pub WAS very good, going back 15 years or so. Perhaps, Worlds End, the sign on the road ought to be changed - I reckon almost any other pub in the area could challenge your statement and win.

We stopped for a pub lunch as we were passing on a Tuesday in early December. We were surprised to find the quite extensive dining area almost full which I can only think is a good sign.

We met for lunch on Sunday to exchange presents with some family. It was a two and a half hour drive for us. The menu was small but varied, as most places only do roast on Sundays and we prefer not to have the traditional roast beef etc., it was ideal for us. I wanted to say that I had the best Caesar salad that I have ever had, anywhere be it pub hotel or restaurant. Next time we are travelling that way we will definitely stop there again.

We stopped off at the World's End on Sunday 1st December, after having a long weekend in Weymouth for Christmas shopping. We have frequented this pub before on our journey and have eaten here many times. However, we have never had a roast here. Best roast I have had out at a pub for years, everything was home made, all fresh veg, no frozen items and the Pork just fell apart. Cosy pub, 2 lovely open fires, beautiful scenery, wonderful staff. If you're passing, don't pass it, pop in. You won't be disappointed. Try any food on the specials board, they're all delightful too. :)

We called in here for lunch today driving from Torquay it looked a good place to stop. We were seated immediately and the staff were very friendly, drinks and starters no problem. Then a 20 minute wait for the main course. My husband ordered fish and chips, the batter was rock hard and the small amount of fish inside was dried up and hard, as were the chips.

Food and Flagons in Ye Old Thatched Pubs of Dorset. The World’s End, Almer.DT11 9EW. Always liked this pub, well layed out on the inside with two log fires, lovely in the winter. Staff very helpful and efficient, standard pub food, reasonable priced, so well worth a try.

Went here 4th Nov 19. Traveling through Dorset, needed a break stopped here as it's got a thatched roof and oak beams, a pretty pub. Nice and clean through out, although a bit on the chilly side - needed the heating turned up a bit. no sticky tables or menus. Stopped for a lunch break. Had an open sandwich ( about £8) each containing crayfish, watercress, tomato, spring onion and mayo on a large piece of brown bread with a side order of skin on fries and tea and coffee to drink.

We found this characterful thatched pub by chance, heading for the coast. What a lucky find; friendly service, excellent well - priced food & cosy vibe. We ate perfect fish & chips, a generous creamy Caesar salad plus good coffees with complimentary fudge. Definitely worth revisiting.

Came in for a meal with my partner and was seated, had drinks, starter and meal that was all ok. However very disappointed in the lack of care for customers. No one came to collect our plates or offer drinks after 25 minutes of waiting, we would of had a coffee, drinks or desert but was fed up of waiting so walked up to the bar where we had no apologies or asking if it was ok and paid. Unfortunately we won’t be coming back.

Really cosy pub and dog friendly. Service really REALLY let the entire dining experience down; from the waitress shouting across the table to the waitress forgetting the rest of the tables' plates...watched her start three new tasks before deciding to go ask someone else. No apology. Would return for a drink but definitely not for food.

Excellent roadside local pub. Staff are very hospitable. Ervice is very good. I think the menu I'd a bit limited as I don't like burgers and not keen on smoked dishes. But the steaks are great, some of thd best I've had.

The food and service at this beautiful country pub were outstanding. The best pub food I have eaten in a long time and definitely the best truffle chips I’ve ever eaten. All staff were really friendly and helpful. Will definitely make this a regular eating spot.

I asked if they had a real ale. I was told they had an IPA. It was poured and given to me. It was not a real ale! It was a freezing cold keg beer that I really couldn’t drink and I was charged £5.20. I tried to complain to the obviously under-trained and frankly couldn’t-care-less female bar person but it was like water off a duck’s back. I said I was mis-sold but she didn’t seem to understand. I asked who owned the pub and was told “Stonegate”. I left the pint virtually in-drunk on the bar, hoping I would be able to claim a refund from Stonegate but the pub is not recognised on their website, other than from them looking for a tenant. I am out of pocket, fed up and very annoyed! I would advise anyone who likes a proper ale: DO NOT USE THIS PUB!
