We have been dining at the restaurant for years and it has been our go to special occasion place. We recently went to celebrate our wedding anniversary and we were really underwhelmed by the menu and the quality of the food. We are vegetarian and there is always a few veggie / vegan menu options, which is always welcome. The starters were delicious and there were a good range of veggie/vegan choices. There were 2 main course options - pasta or a veggie burger. We ordered one of each so we could compare and contrast. The burger was £20 and was absolutely nothing special. It was a commercially made burger in a commercially made bun. It was served with 1 lettuce leaf and a slice of tomato and it looked very sad. I have had way better at Smash Burger. The pasta was ok. Dessert was also grim. The Paris Brest, was dry, solid and tasteless and the knickerbocker glory was a mishmash of cheap tasting strawberry ice cream, fruit and smashed meringue - which seemed to have come out of a packet.

We have just had a two night break and an evening meal at the grange and really enjoyed our stay . For Adults you get top class service a great spa and stunning surroundings, for families the facilities looked amazing. So many different things for the kids to all and all of them healthy and educational, not a computer game in sight ! Our meal was stunning and reasonably priced and the breakfasts were also first class . We had a lovely room at the back of the house that was very in keeping with the surroundings. My only slight negative is that if your a light sleeper you may want to stay in the main house at the front as we were woken both mornings at 6.30 by delivery vans and staff setting up for the day . I can’t fault the staff they were all amazing. I 100% recommend this place for Couples and family’s with younger children . Thanks for a great experience.

A great find for a Birthday treat! We had a lovely leisurely afternoon tea - delicious sandwiches, lovely fresh scones with clotted cream & jam & little mushroom & garlic tartlet - I took my cakes home, in a box provided, to enjoy later! There was a good choice of limitless tea & coffee. We were well looked after by the friendly staff, especially Dylan. The grounds are lovely.

This was a Christmas present from Dec 2020 . What a lovely tea we had. A superb selection of Sandwiches, Scones, lemon Posset, strawberry Swiss roll and a ginger cup cake with loads of butter icing and two pots of tea. Lovely table in the window over looking the beautiful grounds. A great gift. Service came with a smile and we had a walk around the walled garden before we left. Would recommend.

First up, the location is absolutely stunning and the staff very friendly. HOWEVER! We waited for 20+ minutes to order (at that point my husband went to check whether we needed to order somewhere ourselves). The sandwiches arrived (after another long wait, considering it wasn’t busy) and the waitress said she’d check where our drinks were. My husband had ordered an alcohol free Heineken - when the drinks arrived, the waitress told us they didn’t have that unfortunately but that the drink she’d brought instead (another non-alcoholic lager) was really similar. It was already open and half poured into the glass so it was hard to say no but would have been nice to be asked beforehand. The sandwiches came with some crisps and were pretty average- for £8 a sandwich we were expecting something a lot grander….some salad or coleslaw at least! Anyway, we left with a £23 bill (again only after we went to look for staff) for something we felt we could have got as a supermarket meal deal…arguably with not as nice a view!

We've lived near Woolley Grange for some while and passed it many times but ever been inside. We were invited by friends to join them for dinner and we were impressed by the food and service. A range of interesting and very tasty dishes in all three courses and decently priced. There was lovely warm atmosphere, much appreciated on a cold, dank and dark evening. We shall return!

We stayed here ten years ago and thought it was wonderful and worth every penny. We were so excited to return, but really Disapointed. The grounds are lovely and we were pleased with our room. The children loved the outdoor space and the pool What really let us down was the food and service. There was no luxury here. The family dining choices were poor. The children's meal was bad - one had fish gougons and sweet potato fries which were very salty. The other two had pizza, the small was served as half a pizza, the large was a conventional round shape. Both were shop bought bases (cardboard) with grated Cheddar on the top. Something I would not feed them at home let alone expect in a supposedly high end dining. My husband's steak was chewy. My main, whole plaice with creamed potatoes, the potato was served in a ceramic dish and it was cold. It was taken away and then took ten minutes to return by which point I had eaten the fish. The food was incredibly expensive considering how poor the offerings were. The next day we ate a very late lunch in Bath so we would not have to eat at the hotel. The breakfast buffet area had some nice items but was really understocked and allowed to run to empty. The staff functioned but not at a steady rate, we found the service slow and the staff disinterested. Such a contrast to our previous visit. The person in charge we found sullen and felt as if our presence was an inconvenience. When we walked through to the dining areas we would hop out of the staff'so way for fear of being bulldozed. When we left the receptionist was polite but did not ask if we enjoyed our stay. A week later I had an email to complete a survey and nobody got in touch despite the same feedback as given here. Very dispointing. Lovely room and surroundings but poor food and poor attitude from staff. Last year we stayed in a hotel that cost 65% less than Wooley Grange and had a much better experience.

We were booked in for 2 days B&B with dinner. The room at the back of the hotel in a separate building was beautiful. Big sooo comfortable bed with great bathroom. This is a family hotel so expect the odd tantrums from young children. We found this refreshing and made for a relaxed atmosphere. The staff looked after us so well. Ben, one of the restaurant staff was very friendly and professional. The lounge has a relaxed atmosphere with a log fire. The grounds were large catering for all ages. The outdoor swimming pool was closed but would be amazing for summer residents. There is a spa with a good sized swimming pool. The restaurant food is spectacular. We ate 2 times and were spoilt with original ways of serving great food. Example black squid ink rice with sea bass, was so good. Restaurant staff, all young, were very efficient and professional but also friendly. Great combination. We will come again when the weather allows me to swim in the outdoor pool. The only problem we faced were the flies in the restaurant and lounge. Not sure why?

We had the Sunday lunch which was exceptional. The service was friendly but disorganised. We had 4 different waitresses so nobody really took ownership of our order. We ordered drinks first...a pre dinner cocktail. After 15 minutes or so we had to remind them about the drinks. They brought some bread with balsamic and oil which looked lovely but literally a minute later the main meal was served! There was no time to eat the bread which was taken away anyway as the table was quite small. Our cocktail then arrived!! Who drinks cocktails with a Sunday roast?? Ordinarily we would have ordered wine with our lunch but we weren’t even asked. After dinner we explained that we wanted to wait for dessert but the waitress kept coming back asking if we were ready. The staff really were lovely but there is a clear need for some training in service which was slow to start and became very rushed by the end. All in all a sadly disappointing visit. Incidentally, the Orangery needs a good clean!!

Having visited one of Woolley Grange’s sister hotels, I must say I’ve been sorely disappointed. Our family suite (Chapmans) is very dated - and there are damp stains all over the walls. Quite depressing environment really. And the service is very poor. I asked for a margarita and the barman came back after 10 minutes saying that he’s made it with vodka instead because they’re out of tequila....and when I asked for a replacement drink since that’s not what I ordered, he said it would have to go to the back of a very long queue, so I didn’t get my replacement drink for 20 minutes (!). Finally the risotto I ordered for dinner was extremely bland and overcooked - I ate none of it and despite two members of staff noticing that I hadn’t eaten anything and me explaining that it didn’t meet my expectations, they charged me the full £20 for it. The right thing to do in that scenario would be to take it off the bill.

We’ve been to Woolley Grange a few times in the past and always enjoyed it so we’re sorely disappointed by the service today. Began with us hanging around reception for a good ten minutes waiting for someone to see us through to the restaurant or take the details of our booking/show us to the table. Then I made the mistake of ordering a virgin mojito (soda water, mint and a slice of lime all for the bargain price of about £4.50) which didn’t arrive until I was half way through my dinner and came without ice on the hottest day of the year. The service was tardy from start to finish - very few smiles and it took ages and ages to get the bill and then pay for it. The waiting staff never seemed to know what they were doing or what stage tables were at. The food itself was alright - we had open sandwiches and while tasty enough they were tiny portions and overpriced in my view. The 10% service charge they add to the bill felt like it was really taking the mick today. Poor.

Ate here for two breakfasts and two dinners. Very pleasant and family friendly. Quite expensive for what it is, but no more so than any other hotel restaurant. Separate families and couples dining rooms means you can have some adult time! But stingy with the breakfast, so make sure you tell them what you want. They are incredibly accommodating though, and I would definitely eat here again.

We were given a voucher for afternoon tea here and were happy with the chunky sandwiches, cakes and scones that were served along with the tea and coffee menus. Old fashioned english country house atmosphere was nice and afterwards we strolled around the grounds admiring the garden. Saw a spa tucked away near the car park, but really enjoyed the stroll through the large kitchen garden to compare their veggies with ours in our much smaller garden at home.

My husband and I took our daughter and two grandchildren here for afternoon tea. When we first walked in the hotel we were met with an air of cosy, faded grandeur - come wellies and Barbour. There was a fire in the grate, leaves all over the floor and children's toys in all corners of the rooms. As a couple we may have given it the benefit of the doubt and stayed but as grandparents of two lively but adorable children we sighed with relief!

Living locally, I called in and booked 24 hours prior to having our 15th wedding anniversary meal, and made it crystal clear that my husband was vegan to ensure that they could cater for his needs. Although the staff were very friendly, it seemed the chef had made no effort whatsoever with a vegan main meal for my husband. My husbands only option was a spaghetti dish, excluding cream etc....so basically just a bowl of plain spaghetti with a little herbs sprinkled over which they still charged full price for. This was the worst anniversary meal we have ever had and would not recommend to anyone vegan. My meal was the roast beef which I'm not sure was even dead, it nearly leapt off the plate it was so raw, under cooked. Surely it should be best policy to ask customers how they like their beef, as a lot of people don't like it under cooked and bloody. Considering the costly expense of our meals, and the total disappointment, we will never attend again, and certainly would not recommend to anyone vegan. Incidentally, they lack terribly on the draught beer front, and little choice on bottled beers, for which my husband again was disappointed.

We were given a voucher for a 'full afternoon tea' at Woolley Grange as a Christmas present last year. As is often the case, we kept putting it off and aren't we glad we had done so. November is not my favourite month - too long to go before the days start to get longer and there really is not much to commend the month. Added to that, the weather has been particularly unpleasant and we both needed a lift to our spirits and the afternoon tea did just that.Fortunately we had only had a very light lunch because the repast supplied was too good to leave and we ate our fill of the various offerings. We didn't need much dinner that evening! One additional thing I must mention. My wife needs to use a wheelchair and there are steps to the front door and a gravel path to negotiate. I had visited the hotel earlier and asked for a solution. No problem - there is an entry from the rear courtyard and I was told that a ramp would be available and we could park adjacent to that entrance. To my delight, when we arrived a couple of weeks later, the ramp had already been put in place and a chair had been removed from the table to enable the wheelchair to have easy access. Full marks to Reception for having made a note of our requirement! We will return.DPL 80

Bear in ind thatches hotel is advertised as "chid friendly".The service was friendly but Oh So Slow! The main course food was probably excellent just after it had been cooked - it had that look about it! However, it was cold - meat, vegetables the whole lot.Added to that, the children were served last which is definitely not child friendly when you have a couple of 2-year olds. The deserts were much better but the staff had lost the pre-order details of the children's requirements and were surprised that they wanted deserts. Thus it was that theu=ir orders were taken from scratch and had to be assembled after everyone else had been served their food.Altogether this was not a good eating experience. We have eaten at WG before and had expected much better this time.

I have given this four 'stars' in spite of several things purely as my son simply loved the grounds and had a ball.First the good:A wonderful country manor full of rustic charm in a quintessential British setting.Check in was easyBeds were comfortableThe grounds were silent and peacefulIts a place you can relax with your young childrenCollecting the eggs from the hens and chickens in the morning is fun as is the bunny rabbit and the pond.Food was of a high standard although perhaps under seasoned / salted and perhaps that is due to the fact that kids are the focus here.Where things go a little amiss is in the attitude / ability of some of the staff and it seems no one really knows what is going on or what they are doing. This excludes the lovely ladies working in the dining room and one of the gentlemen who were uber efficient, friendly and patient with the kids. There were some other young men helping out and to be frank, if you don't or can't train them then don't put them in your restaurant, especially when charging the prices you do. We arrived for our dinnr reservation and had 3 people stand there looking at us dumbfounded like we had landed from the moon and asked for a special space dust dinner, seriously it was like something out of fawlty towers. We sat down disappointed that our Sons name plate was not there. Our main courses arrived, mine was literally thrown at me, the plate was left at an angle with half of it sitting off the edge of the table, my wife's dish was dropped in front of her and he looked at her, scratched his head and said he couldn't recall what it was. he then asked if we wanted something else and i suggested cutlery may be a good idea. Not what one expects at those prices. The child's name on the reserved tables, designed to make them feel special failed miserably with us, when we arrived it wasn't even put out, my son noticed it on a shelf and went to fetch it. Very disappointing. We also booked the Royal High Tea that was billed as an exciting event with all sorts of activities and fun. Having enquired ealry in the day where it was held, we were shown the main dining room. A dark, echoey and fairly oppressive room. we retuend at 3pm for a 3.15 booking and there was a couple sitting there quietly whispering and eating their high tea as well as a couple with their daughter. We waited until 3.30 and realised there was no fun and games, no children partaking and in fact no one had even bothered to turn up to seat us, welcome us or engage with our son, after all it was supposed to be his Royal High Tea. we cancelled at that stage and went for a swim.Wonderful grounds, lovely pools and great fun in spite of the generally lack lustre service (not unfriendly), they mention childrens welcome packs in the welcome guide, i enquired about this, got blank stares and then asked them to find out and let me know. I couldn't be bothered to chase this up and would have hoped they would have responded to my question.Would i return? Bizarrely i would but in spite of the service although when i think of the rate and the prices they charge for food, i am more reluctant. Perhaps i will try one of the other hotels in the group before making a final decision. So much unfulfilled potential and such a small amount of improvement needed to make this a wonderful stay and a magical experience.Almost but not quite!

Had a family Sunday lunch here for nine. Nice setting in a conservatory part of the hotel and the staff here are cheerful and helpful, leaving us unhurried to linger most of the afternoon. The food here...standard restaurant starters such as ham hock terrine, mackerel pâté and leek & potato soup, were pleasant enough at seven to eight quid a go. Roast beef and lamb were distinctly average for £17.50 a plate. Cheeseboard was fine but cheeses selected were fairly bland at nine quid. Two bottles of wine which came to over eighty quid, arrived with a different, younger vintage than advertised in the wine list. This really annoys me but of course I didn't complain and ruin the ambience. All in all this is a good place for a Group get together and the food is fine but expensive for what it is.

The lunch menu was good, with lots of fresh, home produced food. We chose the pasta with roast vegetables and the homemade quiche, along with the tastiest of salads, especially the roasted butternut squash with pumpkin seed and raisins...delicious! One word of warning - don't come here if you don't like children! It's a very family friendly place, with boxes of toys in the lounges and lots of young children making themselves at home! We felt they added to the country home feel - they were all well behaved and we really like children, but not for those who don't!

Woolley Grange is an attractive venue in a very pleasant location. The grounds are relaxing, but we didn't explore the spa and swimming pool areas. Internally, the venue is quite spacious with some attractive period features. We met friends here for a cream tea. On a sunny afternoon at 3.00pm, I was surprised to find no one in the restaurant. Having been escorted to our table, we waited for about 15 minutes for our order to be taken. This didn't concern us as we were using the venue to meet up with friends, but I have to say service would be described as very slow. The staff were friendly and the presentation of our cream tea was very good. We were there for about 1 1/2 hours, during which time there was no pressure for us to leave which suited us well. The Woolley Grange has the potential to become one of the best venues in the area, but having regard to other reviews and my somewhat restricted visit, considerable improvement would be required to achieve this.

I went on a special offer spa day with a friend which included a massage, use of the pool, steam room, sauna and afternoon tea.The pool is quite small and there is no where to sit near the pool comfortably to relax. There are 2 huge sunbeams but they can't be set out in a way to sit next to a friend so we kept going back to sit in the reception area in our robes and wet gear. The massage was ok but my friend & I were not told that we would be in a room together, good job that we know each other really well! Also be prepared for lots of screaming kids. This place is well supported by local mums & toddlers so we didn't find it relaxing.Afternoon tea was ok but nothing special.Lovely setting but wouldn't go again.

After taking my bridesmaids and mother wedding dress shopping we decided on Wooley grange for afternoon tea and a glass of fizz ! This would have been nice however they said they were full ( could see plenty of free tables ) so sat us on a sofa ( 6 women and 1 infant ) next to a roaring fire with no table ! So we were forced to eat afternoon tea off the dirty carpet !When we asked to move we were snapped at by a very unprofessional young girl who clearly didn't enjoy her job nor did she know the menu or even get our order correct !We were given afternoon tea to eat on the carpet with no knives forks side plates or serviettes! When we asked for more we were sighed at !I had also booked a high chair for my friends Infant to eat his dinner in ! However this was not provided . One of my friends saw one not in use so had to go and get one for him and then we were scalded by a senior member of staff for just taking it ! ( what are you supposed to do when the staff are incompetent) let an infant eat propped up on a sofa causing bad posture and digestive discomfort ??The list of other silly things that should have been avoided is endless and I shall be contacting the local council to ensure that in future no other health and safety / food hygiene laws are broken ! Do not go here it really is appalling ! We were offered money off the bill at the end when we questioned the situation however this is simply not enough !!

Well where to start. We booked for 6 adults and 1 highchair for afternoon tea. It was a celebration for a friend. On arrival we were shown to our 'table' I use the term loosely as we were in fact sat on couches by the fire with a wooden box as a small table which if we were just having drinks would have been perfect but as we had booked for afternoon tea we asked if we could sit at a table and we were advised that they were full... we could see numerous empty tables. We were also informed we had specified we wanted to sit there... having never been before we assured them this was not the case. However although numerous tables were empty we were still advised there was nowhere else to sit.We had also requested a high chair when booking, which we had to ask for again after being shown to our couches. Still no highchair appeared so we took one from an empty table in the next room. To my horror a member of staff then went into said room and screeched where is the highchair and turned and gave us the filthiest look for having moved a highchair... she had to move all of 5 feet to collect another to replace it! Had we seen the stack hidden in the corner we would have just taken one from there. We also asked for a drinks menu which never appeared as we had intended on maybe having a glass of fizz alongside our afternoon tea. When our afternoon tea arrived we were missing 3 scones, plates, knives and napkins which we had to go and find a staff member to ask for. They all seem to do a good job of vanishing or only being available to residential guests it would seem. When we asked for the missing scones the waitress said 'no afternoon tea only comes with one scone' and we read from the menu to her and she soon returned with the additional scones. We were given 1 tiny jug of milk to share between 6 tea drinkers and again had to hunt out a staff member to ask for additional milk.Everything seemed a chore for the staff. We had to search for a staff member to ask for the bill which we waited for for nearly an hour. In between hunting out more staff members to ask for the bill over and over!We ended up taking our cakes on plates to the front desk where eventually a staff member appeared and we were able to ask again for the bill and for the cakes to be boxed. We insisted on speaking to the manager. I have to say she was lovely and apologised and did discount our bill as a gesture of goodwill. Which we were grateful for. My experience today has however put me off returning to woolley Grange in the future. I'm afraid I shall not be returning in a hurry, if at all.

We had lunch today at Woolley Grange, and I'm writing because it was so disappointing. We stayed here a few years ago and had no issues but the hotel seems to have really gone downhill since then. No-one was at reception (at arriving or leaving), so we eventually found our way to the dining room. There was one main waitress who was friendly to the children but not overly efficient or quick. Our drinks order (which I had to ask to be taken after our food order had been taken because it seemed to have been overlooked) was incomplete when it arrived, the food was average and to my mind overpriced for what it was. A manageress seemed to spend most of the time she was in the dining room writing out little signs for tables with her back to the customers. More often than not there was no member of staff in the dining area which made it feel very overlooked and unimportant. It very much left us with the feeling that no-one was bothered if we were there, or whether we had a good experience or not. Upon leaving, there was no-one to speak to about payment either at the desk entrance to the dining room or reception again. My husband eventually had to go back into the dining room and catch the manageress. In the meantime, waiting staff were observed standing around chatting whilst eating in the kitchens, and this is completely down to poor management. This honestly wasn't a luxurious dining experience - it was a cold, uninviting and indifferent experience which sadly left us wishing we hadn't bothered. We won't again.

We stayed in Wiltshire this weekend . I had searched the Internet for manor hotels near to where we were staying and found Woolley Grange . So glad we popped in for a cuppa . We were greeted by a lovely lady , unfortunately I didn't get her name . She showed us to this lovely small lounge with a warming real fire . We decided to have a cream tea for two . We weren't disappointed as the scones were huge and lovely and warm . Had more than enough tea in the huge teapot . We were made to feel very welcome by various members of staff . The manor itself was built in 1665 a must to visit if you love English historic buildings . Definitely recommend this place for couples and families .

We stayed here early October as a celebratory weekend for my parents in law's 70th birthday. Whilst it is true that the grounds are wonderful and there are some lovely touches for the kids and their entertainment, we were most underwhelmed the the 'luxury' tag. Unfortunately, our weekend became a little laughable; every food and beverage experience was painful, extremely poor service, toast un-toasted, pitiful offerings of coffee in the mornings (asking for a cafetiere each appeared too much) and a 20 minute wait for anything ordered which was most definitely sub standard, food appearing at different times, random offerings of food and drink we hadn't ordered , a look of confusion when we ordered tea with our afternoon tea?, desserts forgotten about, for the kids , a sunday dinner ordered by my son was changed without asking to something completely different 'as they had run out'' (without asking at all or batting an eyelid at how ridiculous this service was). No ability to arrange spa treatments until escalated to the manager. We did complain on the 2nd day more over as I would have wanted to know had I managed this property that we were cringing with every order placed. The treatment did improve vastly after that for one evening for which we were very grateful however clearly couldn't be sustained and took an awful lot of obvious effort. The managers on Sunday did apologise again but it really was the last straw after almost 3 days of such poor service. To add insult to injury our bill was incorrect (overcharged) and therefore embarrassingly we had to pick through it to change , and this is really just skimming the surface. We did leave some items in our room which, after being reassured would be returned to us of course haven't. Was such a shame and I really do not complain generally, but was spending an awful lot of money on what I wanted to be a memorable weekend for our family but unfortunately was memorable for all of the wrong reasons and I am sad to say that I could not recommend. Staffing needs to be sorted, much more experience required and whilst quirky is meritable, this should not be at the mercy of service particularly under a luxury banner and at the prices being asked. We were so disappointed.

We had booked the orangery for ourselves which is a lovely addition to the super old house and had the use of the gardens which are beautiful. The food was locally sourced, well cooked and very well presented. We had a long leisurely lunch and would be very happy to recommend Woolley Grange to others for a similar occasion.

This was our second trip to Woolley Grange, which I think is definitely one of the best family hotels in the country. We had a very nice sized room (Clare's) and the children loved the playground, indoor and outdoor pool and the Bear's Den Kid's Club. The Walled Garden is especially idyllic with play houses for the children to play in, chickens and ducks waddling around and lots of beautiful flowers all around. Staying here is very relaxing as everything is set up for children so adults can have fun too. Will definitely visit again.

Sunday family lunch for us grandparents and toddler grrand daughter and our daughter and her husband. Table in bright, quite warm conservatory. Very child-friendly. Quite speedy serving of or three course lunch. Coffees delayed but we had gone out into the sunshine to play with baby. Coffee was eventually served with a courteous apology and was now complimentary with extra biscuits. Appreciated. Nice little hotel dog but shouldn't have been free inside any dining area. Not cheap, but some very imaginative dishes, especially starters and puds. The location on a rare sunny day was delightful. Lots for kids to do. Walled garden and space for free range kids to roam. Perhaps not much car parking space near to hotel.Would return.

We had heard so many great reports about the restaurant that we were really excited about receiving a voucher for dinner for a Christmas present. We tried to book 3 weeks ago but all the Saturday evenings were busy. I thought this was a good sign and since we had waited so long to use the voucher it didn't really bother us. The male receptionist was really helpful and when I told him we had just got married, he made a note to reserve a table in the window. ( which was lovely - thank you)We were offered a pre dinner drink and were shown to a lounge, given a drinks menu and some nibbles. However, we were asked to order our food before our drinks had even turned up. In fact, we had been there about 20 minutes before we finally got our drinks! When we were told our table was ready, I got up to follow the girl in but she had disappeared!. We found our own way to the restaurant but the girl here wanted to know our room number and everything got confused. The tables was lovely, the starters arrived. The souffle looked lovely but the beetroot dish was 'something and nothing' and was disappointing given the price. Catch of the day was salmon( really??) a very small piece of one in fact, the lamb dish was excellent and the presentation was lovely. My main complaint was the service which was a bit pretentious. I CAN pour my own wine - and in fact I prefer to as I then know how much I have had. One waiter came to the table, filled up the red wine and spilt it on the white tablecloth which meant we had a stained table cloth to look at for the rest of the evening. We could have done that for ourselves too! Jessica was charming about it, apologised and sent us a complimentary glass of presecco to celebrate our wedding. Great we thought - but then when we ordered our desserts, one dish came with chocolate piping, saying 'Congratulations on our wedding' FAB. Hats off to Jessica as she was totally on the ball with what customers need in terms of service. Sadly, we thought the menu was not very exciting and new establishments in Bradford are offering the same. I am not sure about whether we would return.

Champagne afternoon was booked as a birthday present from my daughter some weeks age. We arrived a little early however was told to take a seat in a very full lounge we were perched in the main walkway. To my surprise the tea was brought to us there. I asked to be seated somewhere quieter, we were taken to another lounge where the only table was a very low small coffee table with not enough room for our food this was placed on the floor. We were left on our own thereafter not even being asked if we would like more tea or coffee. I am sorry to say pretty poor for £46

Booked for lunch in the Orange at Woolley Grange for an important family celebration. Chosen for it's location, lunch menu and pricing...but also because of the name (we share it). The setting is lovely and the food was excellent, but after an initially encouraging start the service went completely awol. We had to ask if we could order desserts, for plates to be cleared from the table (some still there after desserts had arrived) and go to reception to ask for cutlery to eat the desserts with! To add insult to injury an unfinished wine glass was cleared away (in context the bottle was £32, you want to drink it all at that price!) and the promised replacement glass never appeared. There were also several inaccuracies in the bill, although these were changed without question. Everywhere can have an off day, or even a busy one, but having taken the trouble to write to the hotel outlining what happened and expressing my disappointment, several weeks on I still haven't had a reply. We celebrated a birthday at a local pub last week and the service was spot on, at a fraction of the price so, Woolley Grange, you have a lot of work to do.

Exquisite flavours and presentation for our main courses - lamb and confit duck - and my maple parfait was the best of its kind that I've ever tasted. Our dinner was part of a b&b package at the hotel, so we didn't worry about prices, which are a little on the steep side, but the gorgeous old dining room and friendly service makes it a place where you could come for a special occasion and not be disappointed.

Over the years we've stayed at Woolley 6 or 7 times and had our 10th wedding anniversary party there - always loved the shabby chic'ness, gardens, pools, rooms and service. So, passing yesterday we decided to pop in for an early dinner with our kids. The restuarant was pretty quiet but the service was really slow - every time we wanted a drink or order anything we had to go through the restaurant to find a member of staff to ask. We ordered a mix of kids meals, starters and mains and made it clear we'd like everything to arrive as soon as ready. To cut a long story short our light meal took about 2 hours to finally all arrive after much finding of staff, asking for cutlery, complaining, being told things would be 5 minutes but taking 30...Not What you expect at the pricesI really hope they sort the service out as we love Woolley!

This is a lovely hotel with some fabulous bedrooms in the main house and very well set up to entertain all ages with a spa, swimming pool, sauna, outside games and lots of inside entertainment for families as well. The views across the countryside from the house and some of the bedrooms is lovely. However, the very friendly staff are totally overwhelmed when there are lots of guests - such as the weekend we arrived. There is no bar area, so all drinks are ordered from one of the several sitting rooms by the same staff that serve the restaurant. The restaurant staff simply cannot cope when the hotel or restaurant are full, resulting in long delays, confusion and some forgotten orders. The staff are very friendly and (often) apologetic for the delays. The standard of food is quite good but not always in line with the relatively high prices, especially given the delays in service. But overall this is still a very good family oriented hotel/resort which is difficult to match and in a lovely location. The Bedrooms vary enormously in size and outlook, but are clean and well serviced. I can see how frustrating it would be to just arrive to eat in the restaurant on a busy night - there could easily be time to go to your room (if you had one) and snooze for 30 minutes or more between courses. Also it's best to allow plenty of time to check out if leaving at 11:00 on a busy Sunday!

Friends stayed here recently and as we live locally invited us to dine with them. From start to finish it was a disastrous evening which our hosts were deeply embarrassed about through no fault of their own. Drinks were uber-expensive, the restaurant staff were cold, rude and frankly inept and also hard to find- chasing after staff to order drinks is not what you would expect at such an establishment- and the food was of questionable quality. This is a classic case of a place believing it's own publicity and under no circumstances would I recommend dining here. I cannot comment on the rooms as we did not stay.

We met a few friends who were staying in this wonderful, quirky hotel for dinner. It was like eating at a friends home - log fire roaring, no pressure on ordering, then through to crisp white linen and a sparkling table. The staff were so friendly and relaxed. And then the biggest surprise - the food was really good. Between us we covered the menu. My cheese soufflé was delicious, light. My husband had shredded crab - yummy and fresh and full of flavour. The fish mains were light and beautifully presented. We were so relaxed in this wonderful place that time passed far too quickly and suddenly it was past 1 and we crept back to the fireplace to have coffee before home. We stayed a weekend in October in this lovely but somewhat cramped hotel. Our room which was the cheapest available double was £ 250 including one dinner. The room was well equipped and comfortable but because it is an old property, access by way of a steep staircase can be a problem. The spa was very disappointing - the indoor pool is small and was filled with screaming jumping kids the day we went. The surrounds are very slippery and it would have been a good idea to provide anti slip rubber walkways alongside the pool. The staff at the hotel were without exception wonderful, friendly and helpful. The meals, dinner, breakfast and lunch were without exception superb. But a 5 star hotel it is not, even though some of the other rooms were priced accordingly.

We visited Woolley Grange for a light lunch in the Orangery recently. Arriving, we had an initial sense that maybe we weren't meant to be there! Tables not laid at lunchtime and we felt a bit like we'd arrived at a wedding reception but were a bit early. We dithered over whether to stay in the restaurant on our own, venture into the garden or go on into Bradford on Avon and find a bistro there. We chose the garden! Two people were having coffee and a light bite on the terrace so we felt we at least had some company. Bearing in mind it was March, but very warm, we expect the hotel, surprised by the arrival of the lovely weather, weren't quite ready with the garden areas. The terrace was unswept and there were signs of repairs and cleaning of the pond being undertaken.A glance at the menu and an initial nervousness, that perhaps a weekday was not the best time to visit, we ordered some sandwiches and coffee. The coffee, of exquisite taste, but a tad cool, was enjoyed but downed quickly. Sandwiches arrived which were both plentiful and delicious. Some beautiful olives ( the best we've ever tasted) added additional enjoyment as did some vegetable crisps. All in all then an excellent light lunch in the most tranquil of surroundings. The other garden guests disappeared and we felt as if we were in our own private domain. Two tables in the Orangery were then laid for lunch and were occupied by other guests, so we were not alone !Overall then, a very enjoyable sunny weekday light lunch, a strangely likeable country house atmosphere with the obligatory spaniel lazing in the reception area but still with a sense that some TLC was required in some areas. Maybe the TLC will be provided as we approach summer.I would urge the owners to look at the conservatory at the Stanwell House in Lymington and use this as their 'model' for creating a welcoming arrival point / bistro, for light lunches which could attract devotees by the score for coffee and lunch , not only at the weekend but weekdays as well, making the hotel something special. We remember the hotel of old and some of the attention to tidiness and buzz had disappeared. The welcome was excellent. They are not far off, so with a bit more attention to detail this could be a great venue attracting both the weekday mummy brigade and weekenders as well. Go for it.Would we return again, yes, if only to feel that the garden was ours and no one else's.

Absolutely dreadful! Advertised a la carte menu replaced with a 'bar' menu. Took the waiter 15 minutes to bring a menu and ask if we'd like drinks 40 minutes for food to arrive which was not hot. The pork belly my colleague had was wrapped in gooey fat not crackling, the pumpkin sauce was a teaspoon of orange 'something' and the seasonal veg was mashed potato and some peas. The chicken burger was deep fried and tasted of old fryer fat as did the 'tepid' skin in chips. Presentation of the burger was non existent and the two tiny leaves of lettuce were brown. This was fed back to the waiter when he finally returned to our table his response was he'd mention it to the Chef. The after dinner treat of sticky toffee pudding was solid and rubbery, not moist. The tiniest bit of ice cream and a token gesture at the sauce all was tepid. The dining room was cold and drafty. The decor tired and wall paper peeling off the ceiling and walls. Utterly awful experience with nobody interested in the overall shoddiness of the service and food. Really disappointing, especially as this is the closest hotel to work. A real missed opportunity for this Hotel and Restaurant.
