Rising Sun in Wiltshire

Just a stop here for dinner, 1pm. Myself and my dad. What a lovely dinner. We sat in the conservatory which was nice even with the sun full on. Lots of space, big beer garden and a great view too! Really friendly service. Parking seemed little limited and can fill easy when busy. Tight turn into the car park to so take it slow. Best chips I had in ages here, really crispy batter on the fish my dad had, and the onion ring side I had too. Glazed bacon was lovely. Might just be my new frequent dine out along with the Bell just down the hill a little further.

Lovely pub, friendly staff, great food and a nice selection of drinks. Like a real pub! Magic. Plenty of room and even a dog menu!

Beautiful location , sunny day, two lovey Caesar salads. We sat in the garden with our dog. The view across the valley was amazing. The staff were friendly. We shall be definitely go there again

This was our first visit since the change of ownership. We were booked into their conservatory for a family get together - 16 of us, plus dog! The staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. They were very thoughtful and provided the dog with his own water bowl and brought treats as well! The food was absolutely first class. Being Easter Sunday we had Roasts. Yorkshire puddings like overblown clouds of yummyness, vegetables cooked to perfection, and meat that was full of flavour. There were a good selection on the menu for our vegans too. Local ice cream in many flavours, apple crumble, and so much more. All devoured with enthusiasm by those that could manage after the main courses... We love this pub with its beautiful views over the countryside. Well laid out gardens, plenty of parking, olde worlde inside. This is a must visit establishment! Great food and wonderful, cheery staff. We can't wait to return and enjoy it again. ❤

We're about 10 mins away from the pub but stopped coming around 3 years ago, as it had lost all its atmosphere and the food was dire. Well, that's changed!! This was our third visit for dinner (tried the Sunday lunch first) and the food and atmosphere are lovely. The Belly Pork bites are delicious, along with the Fish and chips and it was my second Gnocchi dish!! The quality of both the food, wine (good selection!) and service, have made this pub a joy to come back to. Big shout out to Amy as well, made us feel really welcome and a great example of what front of house should be.

One of the best Sunday roasts I’ve ever had! Perfect Belly pork , fresh vegetables, and the most delicious gravy… will definitely be going back.

Sunday lunch today . First time visiting since change of hands. Food was nice but it was all piled up on the plate . Much prefer the veg served on the side so you can help your self . I think they need to re think presentation . Service was good

New owners and new menu, I had the crayfish linguine and she had the Katsu curry both delicious, the starter was prawns and chorizo 😋 amazing.The pub is warm and cozy with two fires in the bar 🍻 this will be our new local.

We booked our table a week before we never eat out as a family so as had a voucher for 25% off let’s give this place a try as new owners & refurbished. Lovely cozy pub & bonus could take out new puppy. On arrival was told no meat left apart from beef not great when one of kids only eats chicken .. we went to try the roast went for what’s left beef elder kids had to have off kids menu. Told no extras available either stuffing / cauli cheese disappointed. What we were served I’m sorry was just not worth the money £25 for a bit of cabbage & one Carrot 3 roast potatoes payed £5.95 for what had left as sides pigs in blankets . Tasted nice but felt completely ripped off. Kids enjoyed there meals though as older kids not enough for them. Will not be going back for food but would go for a drink in the garden as the views are stunning. Overall I am happy to pay higher prices if I am getting my moneys worth & did not get it Sunday . I had high hopes that this would be a lovely experience with the pub under new management. However, it was not to be. We were pretty much ignored at the bar, despite there being 2 people serving and no-one else waiting to be served besides us. Eventually we were acknowledged and seated. No menus were brought to us so we found our own. It took a long time for someone to come over, and a long time for our food to be served. We were then charged £20.95 each for the veggie Sunday roast, despite it being listed on the menu as £17.95. We were refunded the difference but very little in the way of apology was given. Overall, a disappointing visit. Such a shame.

The view and garden from this pub is great, but we found the food to not be worth the money. The quality was great but not the quantity. We had a table booked for 6pm, once sat down we were told there was only beef left, they’ve had a busy day, fair enough but they should make sure there’s enough roasts for bookings. There was also no cauliflower cheese or stuffing available. The food came and the presentation was great, but for £25 i think you should get more than one carrot!

We visited the newly refurbished and re-opened Rising Sun recently for lunch. We were very well looked after by the very welcoming staff and enjoyed and really good lunch. It was good to see that the inside las lost none of its charm and that there are stools at the bar so you can just sit and enjoy a pint! We've put the rising sun back on our list of pubs to visit regularly, for food or just drinks.

Lovely food and speedy service but for a Sunday lunchtime it felt as if too many customers were being sat at once. We were shown to a table in the conservatory but felt completely in the way. We were adjacent to the till, which was less than a metre away, where all orders were put through and waiting staff were walking backwards and forwards past the table which gave us no sense of atmosphere or privacy. Really, the table shouldn’t have been there. Without it, tables in the conservatory could be more spaced out and afford guests a little more space for their belongings and to sit comfortably. Additionally, the table itself was small which didn’t allow for much comfort. We would have much preferred a spot in the outdoor area or the bar where it felt more cosy and calm. Perhaps we will try again and ask for a different table next time and see if that improves our visit. Can’t fault the food and the staff were polite. I wish the new owners all the success and hope that it continues to be a popular venue for people to meet and enjoy good food.

Superb Sunday lunch! Food and team were fantastic. A lovely new look and the pub was heaving! Well worth a visit.

Over the years we had very mixed experiences with the Rising Sun through various changes of ownership but I can honestly say that this was without doubt the best meal I have ever had there. Great staff and wonderful food, what more can you wish for, we will be back. I hope that the new team running the pub can make a success of it and based on today’s visit they are off to a great start.

Overpriced mediocre quality food . Super expensive drinks . Smelly toilets . My son loves Christmas lunch and he couldn’t eat anything as he said it was tasteless . My burger was dry and hard . Never will be back again .

We stayed a night at the apartment above the pub in December 24 . We could not sleep at all due to awful smell of massive outside bins belonging to the pub. The sofa bed in the front room isn’t suitable for one person let alone for 2! There was no coffee machine despite it being included in the amenities list . There was no water provided for making tea or coffee anyway . The staff turned the radio on full volume in the morning at 8.30 ! The owner doesn’t like constructive feedback so he just goes on attack mode and calls you awful customer without giving a reason as to why you are awful ! It is a shame as the location is great and beautiful but that is the only good point about this place . We got up and left as quickly as we could to get some breakfast as they don’t provide breakfast either .

Good is cheaply made tastes bland and very poor cuts of meats. At the till it is far too expensive for what was received. Would not ever return.

My 15yo picky eater says that the medium rare sirloin is absolute perfection! :)

Traditional pub interior with lovely fire place and garden has an amazing view point. However, we were charged £10 for a pint of cask ale and half a pint of keg cider. I challenged this and was told the ale was £5.50 (which is a bit expensive but okay) and the half cider was £4.50! I begrudgingly paid, and then found that the cider was off (tasted like vinegar). To be fair the barman replaced with another cider without fuss (no price difference!). We then read the drinks menu, finding that pints of both ciders are £5.95, so this pub is charging over 75% the price of a pint for a half - which is quite astonishing. We then noticed lots of people complaining about what they were being charged for food and drinks. Clearly a pub with great potential but currently has a pricing strategy which is only going to irritate customers, and result in no repeat custom.

We came here as a family of 6 to stay for a night, the room was awful, we had a really bad experience, carpets were dirty, double bed room had bins smell, we couldn’t sleep on sofa bed at all, in the morning staff start cooking with radio and it’s disgusting, food wasn’t good quality and overall we didn’t enjoy our stay.

We had a nice meal 😋 But waitress was a bit cold As was the pub . One radiator in the pub There was a nice big fireplace but no fire going 😠😠 (COLD).

Lime and Soda £4.25. That's fizzy water and a splash of lime. Total rip off and complete disdain for customers. Would love to hear the justification of this price. Normally pay around a pound and that would make a healthy profit. Also no real ale. Won't be returning.

Exceptional food, and a view to die for. Will definitely be back in the summer so we can take advantage of the fabulous outdoor space.

Made to feel very welcomed (had two dogs). Menu choices were excellent and varied. We had seared pork belly, sirs chi noodles and Bok choi - perfect choice!! Followed by baked cheese cake, washed down with an excellent Malbec. We passed it en route to another venue and decided to back - such a good decision.

We went for a Sunday lunch. It's a sharing board, apparently for people with small appetites. I went specifically because i am gluten free and the menu says on the beef and Yorkshire pudding option (gf option available). The gf option is without Yorkshire pudding! Quite disappointing. The portion sizes of the meat is miniscule. Two small slices of beef, about the size of a slice of fray bentos corned beef shape. Qtr of chicken, just a leg piece. For £22! I also had the prawn starter which was 3 prawns in a bowl of salad. My son wanted pigs in blankets which was £7 for three small sausages in bacon! We all came away hungry. The Yorkshire pudding was similar to the size you get in a packet in Tesco. The only people who could possibly rave about the food here are those unable to boil an egg. The owner/manager seems to think he is funny, he isn't. His service is an acquired taste, one of which we had no desire to acquire.

A great place for a family meal. Great staff, great service, and good food. The only downside for me was that the conservatory we were in, with terrific views, was extremely cold. This wasn't helped when staff kept leaving a door open. Otherwise, it's 9a top rating. I will visit again, but in summer!

The roast was excellent, the pub is pretty and the manager is really attentive and the service was brilliant overall. The food was SO GOOD. One of the best roasts I’ve ever had in a pub. Highly recommend. Slightly pricey but worth it!

Stunning pub, dinner with a view! Had dinner on the decking area, excellent food, efficient and friendly service. The owner was very welcoming and friendly. Very relaxing all round vibe, top venue.

Location is beautiful especially during the summer however- we have just had a roast and it was not great! Had a call 45 mins before our booking time (suppose to be 4:15pm) to ask if we were having a roast. They said roast finishes at 4pm yet their menu online and the menu handed to us when we arrived said 8pm. We rushed to get there. A pretty cold day and was sat in the conservatory- no heating on and pretty bleak decor, toilets not great. Roast Dinner came out hot but tasteless, flat and small Yorkshire pudding that cost £2.50!!!! Extra pigs in blankets £6.50 for 5 tiny pieces. Potatoes hard and not crispy, little meat! I found 3 hairs in my dinner and gravy was like water. Service was quick but that’s because we were the only ones in there eating (I believe this was why they said the roast finished at 4pm) In and out within 1 hr! £81 bill later. 4 cokes at £19 and got handed a receipt with a £7.10 service tip!!! Paid and left and won’t return for food unfortunately.

We recently visited The Rising Sun in Lacock to celebrate my mother’s birthday, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. All in all, it was an outstanding experience, and I would highly recommend The Rising Sun for anyone looking to celebrate a special occasion. Lunch yesterday was great! Soup was yummy and obviously home made. The fresh bread to dunk in the soup was fresh and tasty! Service was excellent too! Great views, good food, excellent service! Will be back!

Just visited the rising sun for a roast, I must say we were very unhappy with the food. All the items apart from the gravy were cold. We didn’t want to make a fuss during our stay as the service was great but the food wasn’t. The starter I had lamb kofte was really unpleasant also, just two hard balls of “kofte” that I could barely cut into. The setting of the place is lovely and the staff were great, but unfortunately the food was really unsatisfactory.

Had the best meal in the conservatory for my parents 60th wedding anniversary and couldn’t be happier. From the moment we booked it Neil and the team were brilliant. On the day nothing was an issue, they worked really hard and made the day very special. The food was superb and the view is incredible. 100% looking forward to going back.

I cannot comment on the rooms as I did not stay but if they follow the quality of food and service I recieved then it will be outstanding, well done guys absolutely recommended to anyone and the pods are perfectly situated

Thought as it was a beautiful evening we'd pop out for a vino and take in the views. Unfortunately this was marred due to the ridiculous price of 2 large red wines. £28 is an obscene amount to charge! They could have ar least mentioned a bottle was £33 but no and when we questioned the cost we were told " you had extra large and the price is correct"" Extra large was 275ml!!!! .

The view is perfect, the environment is very nice, the food is extremely bad. We ordered fish twice, the fish smelled, we ordered a burger, the chicken inside was not cooked, we ordered a burger again, it was not meatballs, it was something else. We were not satisfied at all.

We’ve only just found this hidden gem and we have lived locally for eighteen years. The manager is incredibly personable and helpful. The food is wonderful and well priced considering the chef’s culinary expertise. We’ve eaten here four times now and each meal has been delicious. I recommend the fish and chips, you can upgrade to the truffle chips which are out of this World. We don’t like busy environments so we tend to go midweek when it feels like our own private sanctuary. The views are breathtaking and there is a little children’s play area.

We’ve been regulars for years but the place has gone downhill badly this year. The smell from the toilets wafts over the lawn. The food is mediocre but way overpriced Service polite but sporadic Just not the enjoyable experience of previous years

Nothing wrong with the location or with the staff. However, I wanted a late lunch so opted for the rocket, watercress and parmesan salad. I see the online sample menu lists this at £3.95 - in reality, try £7.95. As the uploaded photo indicates, there was zero watercress and, frankly, zero of merit here. The truffle chips were also pricier than the dates online menu. £7 or £8 for a novelty mini chip fryer with not a whiff of truffle. I can see a lot of positive comments regarding the food here, it's a shame I'm not able to add to them. I wouldn't have written a review, if I hadn't felt so distinctly ripped off.

The main course was absolutely incredible and the choices on the menu were stunning!! The desserts were not as good unfortunately…. The cheesecake has 0 taste whatsoever and it wasn’t cheap. It was also very cold in there which made it feel less homely. I would 100% recommend going for the views, drinks and mains but leave the desserts

10 of us in our party on a Friday lunchtime. The views are stunning we sat outside for a couple of pre-lunch drinks and then went inside for our meal as it was a bit cooler on the day we visited. They had a superb selection of beers and ciders to choose from. The food was amazing, great menu and so delicious.

To a contingent of guests from around the world, 25 in total. All meals were pre orders. Could not have gone better, food was superb and all came out on time. Which was excellent. Recommend!

We did enjoy our meals but were unaware we were up for a £ 20 surcharge on a week night. We didn’t check our receipt until later and found the extra charge !!! Not surprised that they weren’t busy. We went to another local Pub and there were no other hidden extra costs. Would not recommend.

Had lunch on a Bank Holiday Monday. Felt the food was fine but actually a bit average for the price although the staff were nice and the view/location great. Toilets could use an upgrade.

A large group of us stopped for lunch unannounced, staff were very accommodating. Service was warm, friendly, efficient and nothing was too much trouble. Food was fresh and delicious and came in good time. We didn’t have room for dessert as the mains were so big. All topped off, with incredible views in well kept gardens. Thank you, we will be back!

Service and location are amazing, but the food is overpriced small in size and boring. Need some pub classics. The staff are lovely, including the man with long hair. Very good customer service. Only complaint is deffo the food. Reheated chips and horrible rolls for the burgers. I just wanted to go and talk to the chef and give a few ideas to make to food more appealing and exciting

Went for evening meal with the wife. After writing a negative review on FB they decided to block me rather than respond like most normal adults would. Poor choice of starters and the bbq chicken starter was mush and more like cat food. The most expensive thing on the menu was the steak which we both looked forward to. It was very fatty and came with a peppercorn sauce made from butter. The steak and chips were overpowered by the fat and grease from the butter. Very disappointing and quite frankly gross experience. Over £130 and was there for around an hour. They offered a complimentary desert but by that time had lost our appetite. Needles to say, won’t be rushing back

We went there for a family Birthday. Overall it was a pleasant experience. Location lovely especially as it was a sunny day. The food and service was good. My only issue was paying £9.50 for a coke and lemonade which I thought was very steep for two soft drinks.

He refused to give my friend a glass of water after a long cycle unless he ordered a meal and also doesn’t tell you the price of anything, was very rude and we will never go back and never recommend to anyone!

Stopped here for lunch with my husband and dog in the sunshine, after visiting Lacock Abby. Didn't disappoint! Good choices on the menu, something for everyone. We choose to sit and have lunch in the gardens with incredible views of Wiltshire countryside (pub is at the top of the hill) Although it was very busy, food was prompt and delicious. Service was friendly and swift with a warm welcome and goodbye from the manager. Great visit and will definitely return when we are next in the area. Also lots if inside areas with great views.
