Arrived expecting to find a pub and found it had changed hands two weeks earlier and reopened as an Indian restaurant - we were obviously among the very first customers! We were given a warm welcome, the food was absolutely excellent and the service attentive. I would highly recommend the Goan fish curry, mild and deliciously seasoned.

Now reopened as The Burj at the Bell and sister restaurant to The Burj at Wanstead near Swindon. The staff were super attentive, and the food was excellent. Our visit was just a few days from the re-opening, and they have thoughtfully re-organised the layout whilst retaining a bar section (during week days) which seems to go down well with the locals! The dishes are very authentic. Should be a great success.

We recently stopped for an impromptu lunch at The Bell and were very impressed. They had a large group to serve so gave us a clear wait time, which turned out to be very accurate. The service was friendly and attentive, the dining room is nicely laid out and we loved our burgers - which were of an excellent quality. We will definitely eat here again (especially as central Marlborough is often rammed)!

Birthday meal visit on 28th Oct turned out to be very disappointing sadly … having been before and had good food and service we were looking forward to our time there. However a series of inadequate things amounted to an feeling of surprise and disappointment. Over priced … inadequate portion sizes and second rate service all led us to feeling we wouldn’t be returning again… we appreciate times have been hard but ripping people off with measly portions is quite frankly taking the p…. ! Cannot recommend at this time. Pull your socks up please!!

Having tried to book Sunday lunch at three other pubs in the vicinity of Marlborough which were all fully booked, my friend and I were pleased that The Bell at West Overton had space for us. His roast beef and my roast lamb were tender and tasty and served with plenty of vegetables. We would definitely go there again.

I never really write reviews but after my experience here I had to! my husband and I came here on a whim on a Tuesday as most pubs around the area are not open on this day which left us bummed out and hungry. was surprised to walk in and have a lovely young lady named Tara to come to take us on for lunch. the pub did seem a little short-staffed for the number of people in the establishment but she handled it great regardless and still greeted everyone with a big smile and had good knowledge of the beers on draft such as the 2 local ales which I was very impressed by. even offering 'tasters' before we bought a pint. she even took the time to talk to us, asking about how our week had gone and made us feel very comfortable whilst dining here. the food was great, can not fault it in the slightest, wish we could've had room for pudding! The only thing I would say is that it does look like more staff is needed as the poor lady did seem to be doing everything, taking and bringing out food and drink our as well as ensuring all customers are happy but all in all was very smooth and food was brought out in about 20-30 minutes which we couldn't complain at! I would definitely visit again just to experience such great service, we were told that other days of the week they do offer a larger menu as Tuesdays unfortunately, is a limited menu and I would be eager to try the haddock scotch egg which the waitress spoke about.

Went in because the Wagon & Horses was shut and what a great idea. Lovely little pub/restaurant. The young lady said Tuesday was good because it didn't get busy! How wrong she was!!! Despite the influx of half the population of Wiltshire they managed wonderfully well and the food was lovely. Top marks for both the bar and kitchen staff.

Arrived in the restaurant, received no greeting from the staff and were left waiting until I forcibly caught a waitresses attention and she brought us to our table. After being seated and waiting a good 15 minutes to place our order we were informed there was no lamb left. Then after ordering the beef we were told there was no red meat dishes available (beef, lamb, pork). The waitress seemed genuinely to not care and just stated that the meat order that had arrived the day before had been incorrect. She offered us 10% off our meal but at this stage I decided to cut our losses and leave. As there was no phone reception I asked the waitress book us a table at the Waggon & Horses, which she did. Upon leaving there was no apology or even acknowledgment of us leaving. It turned out to be a blessing as we had a lovely meal at the Waggon & Horses. It had a far nicer atmosphere and genuine country pub feel to it. Would recommend it over this total shambles.

Living just the other side of Marlborough from where the Bell is situated, we have often passed it but never been in before. Deciding on a place to celebrate our 45th wedding anniversary I checked Trip Advisor and saw almost totally excellent reviews so decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed. The crab tempura starter and the Haddock scotch egg were very good, and my Turbot was also excellent. My wife and one other member of our party had the Chicken Kiev which was also very good, and two others had Fish and chips. If I have one request it would be for a more varied or changing menu, for example there was no steak choice, and a few more choices would have been nice. Also because of the celebration we ordered a bottle of champagne, and I thought £79 / bottle a little steep without checking with us first on the price. However these two small matters aside, the experience including the service from the very sociable girls looking after us was so good that we returned the next day for Sunday lunch with our Labrador Holly and ate in the bar area. The roast sirloin of beef was the best I have had for a long time, served with a good selection of vegetables, and a few roast potatoes, which many restaurants skimp on sadly as I really like them. Again service was great, and the athmosphere in the whole place is very good and very friendly, we shall definitely go again. Please publish an up to date menu on the web site, as this is helpful in attracting diners.

And to top it all they had my favorite South African wine 😀. This is our second visit, since the Bell changed hands. First time - we were very impressed. This time, Sunday lunch, and as good as last time. My wife had the turbot (which I had last time) and she enjoyed it as much as I did. We both had the Devon crab starter - very fresh crab and beautifully dressed - excellent and I had a lovely piece of lamb roast. Super ice creams and cheeses to finish with. Great service, although a tad slow with puds, but there were only two waitresses to deal with the bar and busy restaurant, which was not good - must ensure that the place is properly staffed. However, the girls did not get stressed or short, so all credit to them for such professionalism.

We chose The Bell for Sunday lunch as it was roughly midway between the homes of the two couples who were meeting, and I'd driven past it recently on a trip to nearby Avebury. The website was interesting, and there was a prompt reply to my request for a table reservation. The Bell is easily found on the A4 west of Marlborough. It has a decent car park just off the main road. The staff were very welcoming, and the bar area, along with the restaurant had clearly had a recent makeover, giving a clean and fresh ambience, but with lots of beams and brick to retain a traditional feel. We sat in the bar to start with, choosing from a reasonable selection of beers and other drinks. The fixed price Sunday lunch menu was very good value, with a decent choice of starters, mains (including traditional roasts) and desserts. Starters of Ham hock terrine, soup, and air dried ham with fennel and pear salad were well-presented and tasty. Roasts of lamb and beef were also well-presented. The beef was offered as pink, or cooked through. My pink beef was acceptably tender. All roasts came with Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and mixed vegetables. There was no room for dessert! The dining area was comfortable, and although busy for Sunday lunch, did not feel crowded. The staff were friendly and efficient. The toilets were reached via stairs, and were clean and well-decorated. All in all, it was a very pleasant experience, and I'm sorry that I'm unlikely to return in the immediate future. But it's a venue I would happily recommend.

The Bell is welcoming and the tasty dishes are pretty to look at and the staff are friendly. A friend loved the roast garlic bulb with spelt bread, I enjoyed the goats cheese and beetroot salad and we all had paella. We liked the generous fish, mussels and King prawns, and as a seafood rice dish it is very good. But for paella, it lacked the depth of flavour from cooking slowly in heady saffron, garlic, olive oil and spices. Two of our table wanted plant based milk and it is so disappointing that they don't offer anything other than cow's milk. This is a handy spot for visiting the Avebury stones and easy to find, lots of parking and a, pretty beer garden.

Only criticism was the veg was slightly too underdone (even though I like veg on the crunchy side) but that's being picky as the meal was delicious. Working up an appetite on a lovely Sunday walk, The Bell was the perfect stop for lunch and it certainly didn’t disappoint. Stylish surroundings, welcoming staff and great food - not a lot to complain about (well, we’ll briefly revisit that shortly). The ham hock terrine with piccalilli starter was exceptional and the salmon starter received a similar response. Lamb, pork loin and beef roasts all fantastic and the two desserts that the four of us just about had room for, to share, were delicious. The one small gripe? Well, coming from Yorkshire, we know a thing or two about the famous “pudding” and although the ones that accompanied the main course looked the part, they didn’t really deliver and lacked substance (my wife - who makes an excellent “Yorkie” - reckoned the batter was an egg or two short!). Anyway, small issue and still merits a 5 star rating. Pretty sure we will be back when next in the area and no hesitation in recommending a visit to others. Enjoy!

Stopped at this pub for a late dinner just 20 minutes before the kitchen closed and ordered the pork belly. It was cooked excellent really a pity the portion was far too small for the price.

Following some very good lunches at the Bell in the past, I chose the Bell for my special Birthday. We had a room to ourselves, about 11 of us and had a really excellent lunch. We probably had all the main courses on the menu to include steak, beefburgers, fish and pasta. Everybody was really pleased with their choices. I had the cod and chips and the fish was cooked to perfection. The desserts were scrummy with the trio of icecream being a favourite with the children. I had chocolate mousse with raspberries which was yummy.

What a wonderful pub and fantastic staff. Four of us set off lastSaturdayfrom the Old Forge B & B to walk the mile toThe Bell. The wind was blowing a gale and the rain decided to join in and soak us. Unfortunately as it was pitch black, myself and a friend managed to get separated from our two friends. Wewerewell and truly lost. The other two additional to the Bella dexplained the situation. One of the bar staff decided to jump in her car and go and search for us. Meanwhile in desperation we had flagged down a car to getdirections to The Bell. The young couple in the car drove us, dripping wet, to the pub. As we walked in one of the bar staff said “Are you the lost ladies?” They were so kind and then at the end of the evening one of them drove us all back to The Old Forge. So over and above what they needed to do, but a huge thank you to them.

We chanced upon this pub having failed to find another one open for lunch. The staff were friendly. The food was excellent and overall a pleasant experience. Use the accessible toilet as the others are downstairs and a distance from the bar !!

We visited the Bell at West Overton on consecutive evenings and on both occasions had a most enjoyable experience. Wide choice of food which was of a great standard. Especially enjoyed the desserts. Best panaccota with rhubarb and ginger. The staff were very welcoming. Would highly recommend it you are in the area.

One of the best lunches, most enjoyable for our small group of foodie gentlemen. Excellent beers. Their mini bread loaf with tender roasted half garlic, olives, delicious. Paella seafood chicken chorizo, well judged balanced dish and totally irresistable. Hot cross bun dessert topped with refreshing ice cream to complete our meal.

I visited here after a trip visiting the local neolithica. We called in, and were greeted with a not overly busy place, clean tables, friendly staff and a delightfully interesting decor. This place feels unique, it's a refreshing change from the usual chains of corporate designed places.

We walked here from Marlborough - aiming for another pub but that was closed -so found ourselves here by accident. However we were most impressed especially as it was Sunday lunchtime but they fitted us in with no problem. The waitresses were very attentive and friendly and the standard of food was particularly high for a pub. We were most impressed with the smoked salmon starter and the beautiful rareness of the roast beef. We would definitely recommend this restaurant.

We visited on a whim, but booked half an hour before arrival and were fitted in. The welcome, staff and food were all excellent. Our 3 children chose half portions from a very nice menu. They all ate everything and loved it (even the four year olds tried and loved the homemade tartare sauce which was sublime). The burgers are the best around. My husband rated the real ales very highly (and he’s something of a connoisseur!). Thankyou, we will return.

Lovely daytime atmosphere, great welcome. The staff are lovely, very friendly and on the whole we had a good lunch. The Menu was limited but there was plenty of choice. We chose the beer battered fish and chips, so tasty. The fish was small but coated in a delightfully crisp golden batter. The crushed peas came in a jar and were also tasty. The Tartare sauce was more of a mousse and while my partner loved it, I was disappointed by the strong 'chive/garlic' flavour. Great chips. The portion size was average but I thought that despite the excellent presentation, £15.75 was a little over the top.

The Bell at West Overton was recommended to us by the owner of our B&B;, local to the pub, as the best in the area. He was correct.

This is not the first time I have reviewed The Bell and it never fails to please me. I can never resist the pork belly which is out of this world, but slightly surpassed this time by my wife's choice of lamb. This is a lovely bright and airy country pub that welcoms dogs in the bar area. It is usually busy but the staff are very friendy and attentive to all their customers

Very expensive for what you get. Poor music choice. Generally unhelpful service. We went to the Horse and Groom in Westbury the next day and couldn’t have a table. Duke, get real and wake up to reality, your livelihood relies on people…

It's a little bit too cool for school, touches of the old Yates bars, and it's quite dark, subdued inside, but it's comfortable, you can sit with up or down ...but the food is great and the staff are great, the comedy club is brilliant, very cosy with super acts. Very much recommended. Sports screen
