A new lease of life for this village local. Now run by Sammy and Chelsie who also run the ever popular Roti, Indian Restaurant, in Norwich. We visited on a Friday night. The bar was busy with locals enjoying an early evening drink with darts and pool also on offer. The food offer in the adjoining restaurant is Roti Two and the food is just as good. Roti manage to produce flavoursome dishes without blowing your head off although more spicy dishes are also on the menu. Good choice of veggie dishes too. Service is impeccable and prices very reasonable.

This pub was recommended to us as somewhere good to eat. The southern fried chicken was not as expected. Thought it would be coated real chicken but what we were served was something from a freezer pack and was clearly shaped/re-formed and coated with spicy breadcrumbs. My friend had lasagne and said she had had better from Lidl. We were disappointed and would not return.

We had a Christmas themed carvery lunch. The plates were piping hot. There was a choice or roasts and we helped ourselves to a wide selection of perfectly cooked vegetables. I chose the beef which was very tender. All the sauces were available in generous quantities. They were catering for a party of over 20 walkers and they did a good job. We got a starter, main and afters for under £20. After a recent just adequate lunch in another pub this was a huge improvement.

We were shown into the function room, I agree with another review in that it had the atmosphere of a village hall. Food took an hour to arrive and was typical pub food, nothing special but ok. It took 20 minutes for our dessert order to be taken and 20 minutes to get them. Sticky toffee pudding arrived with no toffee sauce just dry cake! Karaoke started and at that point we could no longer talk to each other as it was so loud. They need to decide whether they are a restaurant or entertainment venue as the two do not work. Will not be going back.

We went to this lovely Pub/Restaurant after hearing about it from a friend. It did not disappoint. The Pub is very old and tastefully decorated with a very pleasant atmosphere. We were greeted by the landlady and shown to a table. The menu was interesting a mix of traditional Pub meals and Fine Dining. As a starter we had a "Combo" between us. Everything was cooked to perfection. I followed with the excellent Homemade Lasagne, delicious. My husband chose the Sausages and Mash, he said the sausages were delicious and it was lovely to have a good portion of very tasty gravy. We decided on a dessert when we saw the menu. I had the Homemade Bread and Butter Pudding with custard and my husband the Homemade Sticky Toffee Pudding with Ice Cream, a perfect end to a lovely meal. Had a very pleasant surprise when we go the bill as it was very reasonable for the quality of the food and the pleasant service. We will definitely visit again.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

We visited on Saturday evening and after reading previous reviews were looking forward to a great evening with family. We were shown into the "function room" which had all the atmosphere of a village hall, with regimented tables covered with plastic table "cloths" which frankly had seen better days. The lack of furnishings also causes the room to be very noisy and made conversation very difficult. Having ordered our meals from what was left "on" the menu (at 19:30 we were told that several of they had run out of several of the dishes) we then waited 3/4 hour for our mains. Normally this wouldn't have been too much of an issue, but when only one of them, fish and chips, was freshly cooked we thought the delay somewhat excessive. Even when the food did arrive it came 2 plates at a time with a 3 or 4 minute gap between relays. 3 of us had ordered chilli which when it finally arrived, was adequate but was served on a bed of what bore a remarkable resemblance to microwaved rice, with 1 small piece of garlic bread and no sign of the salad in the photo on the website. One high point - the plate was at least hot. Maybe the delay in serving all 6 meals was down to the need for the microwave ?After the mains, we then waited a further 15 minutes to order sweets and 20 odd minutes for them to be served which, when 3 were sorbet and one was obviously bought in is hardly impressive. We even had to ask twice for the bill. And it's not as if the place was heaving with diners.Mid way through the evening the noise levels increased with karaoki in the main bar which was so loud, conversation which was already difficult became next to impossible. So after 2 hours to eat just a main and sweet, we gave up and left. Somehow I don't think we will be returning anytime soon, if at all.

Having heard that new ownership had a positive impact on this place, we've visited a few times to try the food. We haven't been disappointed. There is ample parking outside the pub which is easy to find just off the main Norwich to Bungay road, the B1332, in the village of Woodton. The bar area has a friendly feel to it and it is always well patronised with a group of regulars. There are some good ales on sale which, in my experience, are always well-kept and of top quality. The menu is wide-ranging and full of classic pub grub favourites. Various chalk-boards detail special dishes, or special offers for lunch and dinner. You can eat either in the bar area or in a dining room off the side of the pub. We have done both and feel that the dining room can feel a a little isolated. Many people would prefer this, though! We would opt for the bar area, where possible. Service is good and attentive and the food is of consistent quality. We have visited on the Wednesday steak night twice and found it superb value for money. The usual menu is also good value. This pub will certainly remain on our list of places to recommend.

However, we were so impressed with quality of food, service, cleanliness and overall experience that we will make a point to return on another day to sample full menu. If the quality is the same then will be worth it! Separate veg included am especially tasty cauliflower cheese (served in its own side dish) plus selection of veg and a separate gravy boat (a rarity these days) which was full to the brim with decent gravy (none of the weak watery stuff you gat served in some places!)

Lovely, warm and traditional British pub with happy and attentive staff. Lots of seating area and nice fire, as well as nice additions of a Darts board and jukebox (shame no pool table, but understandable considering pub size). Nice restaurant with good food. Slightly expensive perhaps, but good quality nevertheless. Also, vegetarian options are a let down, as when we visited, there appeared to be only one vegetarian option (Lasagne) available. Can and should be easily sorted so everyone is accounted for. Overall, great pub and restaurant! Keep up the good work and also love the 2 for 1 pizza Mondays!

A friend and I decided to venture here for drinks and a meal. The choice of real ale on offer was excellent, with three local brews on offer, to add to the usual lagars and ciders. We ordered from the build-your-own pizza menu and were delighted to hear it would only take 20 minutes to be ready. During this time we were welcomed into the conversations between the locals and bar-staff, and were greeted by the landlord. Towards the end of our visit, my friend, who lives the best part of 15 miles away, claimed it felt more like a local for him than any of the pubs nearer to his home.We will definitely be visiting again, as the rest of the menu looked (and smelt) delicious, and we were assured that another selection of local ales will be coming soon.

We had a very enjoyable meal at this pub with its own restaurant area. The menu was very traditional for a pub (steak & ale pie, burger, steak, gammon, scampi, fish & chips, sausage & mash, lasagne & chicken breast) and they also offer build-your-own pizza and have a specialist night (eg curry) on a regular basis. We decided to go for the steak, which came with everything you'd expect; chips, onion rings, peas AND salad and a large mushroom. The steak was cooked perfectly and was reasonably priced too. If I had any criticism to make, it would be that the dessert options were quite limited. There was apple crumble, chocolate fudge cake or bread & butter pudding (or a choice of ice cream), all of which felt a little heavy after our lovely steak. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the service was prompt (bear in mind it was a very quiet evening). We'll definitely visit the King's Head again on our next trip in that area.
