Woodstock Tavern in Manchester

My partner and I came with two friends from London after a long walk around Didsbury. We stopped for a couple of drinks and bar snacks (we for three bar snacks for £16!) The service was great, the food was yummy and the service was great. Our dog even got a little snack too!

It's been over 20 years since I was last in the Woodstock and remarkably it still seems to have the same vibe. Friendly place with great food and a good range of drinks. I just called in for a lunchtime drink and steak sandwich (which was excellent). It brings back happy memories. So glad it hadn't changed

My first visit there today and i was so excited i must say the service and quality of food was very good, but however the quantity of the roast dinner i could not believe, i had barely half a potato on my plate and only 2-3 pcs of vegetables. Being in catering business myself this was very disappointing and i know in this business customer satisfaction should be top priority. I am not a person to complain but i was genuinely disappointed and didn’t enjoy my lunch as i thought i would.

Love this place! Good vibes, beaut building and good drinks. Milo (I think was his name!), gave good wine advice, what a great bartender!

Made a booking for an occasion as we were visiting the area from Staffordshire. Arrived at the pub to be told the kitchen was closed until 5.30! Went over the road to Albert’s & had a fabulous meal! Next time we’re in the area we’ll go to Albert’s!

The staff and the waitress we had were great. But the beef was stone cold (we were told that it was the last of it) and the roast potatoes were rock solid like stones. We did flag this to the staff and they were apologetic

Slightly disappointed as previously I have never had any issues. However, on this occasion they were very short staffed so lack of attention during meal and you had to order at the bar. In addition a number of dishes were not available - including the main gastro pub type dishes. I would have expected as Alberts which is across the road is closed on a Monday, that they would ensure everything on the menu is available to pick up extra trade.

Group of 10-15 lads booked tables to watch the 6 Nations rugby and celebrate a 28th birthday. Staff were very friendly and accommodating, food was excellent and the pub had a great atmosphere. Would definitely go back.

Went to watch the six nations rugby. Went early to get a table for the game only to be told 1 hour before the start that the whole area was reserved, no sign no prior indication, and that all the tables downstairs were booked so needed to go elsewhere. Been there for previous matches and tables reserved spaces were indicated. Really poor.

We had the BEST time!! All of our family and friends are still talking about how great it was and what a lovely venue it was. We booked in for our gender reveal announcement, a get together of 30+ bringing everyone together. Our friends and family enjoyed great night .The staff made everything so special for us. They couldn’t have done more! The food was absolutely delicious we never had better pizza!Very easy to book and communicate. We want to thank you all for the best night! Lovely bar in a lovely area. We popped in for a drink and ended up having a pub meal which was lovely. Staff were helpful and really nice.

Lovely surroundings but the service was a bit patchy. We asked for the table to be cleaned when we ordered as someone had eaten there before us. They didn't clean the table. The food was average -we had to ask for more dressing for the ceasar salad -and I don't like a lot of dressing! They didn't have some of the options on the sandwich list -this was at 2pm on Monday. Good selection of cask ales though!

Lovely food freshly cooked great value

Sam was a fantastic, bubbly server and couldn't do anymore for us, so thank you. The food was delicious and the whole experience made for a lovely family gathering.

Popped into today for lunch. We shared the 3 meats sharer, which looks impressive when delivered to your table. Meat was well cooked, and so was the veg and roast potatoes. The Yorkshire pudding was huge but dry and overcooked, which was the only downside. A good meal, but I've had better.

Everything about the visit was good! Good food, good staff, good hospitality!

Nice Sunday lunch, lovely pub/setting and a very pleasant experience overall. Food was really good (we both had the roast chicken). Young waitress was friendly/polite, if a little generic in terms of appearance/personality but she was nice enough. Two minor criticisms of the food - gravy pots were way too small and we ended up ordering extra (which they happily obliged with) and the cauliflower cheese had mustard in it, which was quite overpowering. I didn't mind it but seemed an odd addition and feel other customers (especially children) might not be a fan. Overall, very nice meal/occasion and would happily eat there again.

Great value lunch time deal. Nice relaxed vibe. Friendly staff. The food tasted great. The Guinness was a 6.5/10. Highly recommend this place

Staff weren’t great. Booked in October for our Christmas Eve annual meal. Christmas menu was not launched until November. The system didn’t realise we were trying to book the Christmas meal. Emailed the order multiple times. No response. When I visited to check the order was ok, I received a call an hour later to say we couldn’t have the Christmas menu. Advised they would check with the kitchen. Suggested it may be better to check with the kitchen before advising a large party 48 hours before they may not be able to attend. Head chef then advised it wasn’t a problem. Staff need to be proactive and service on the day was stand off ish. We were ignored and regularly went to the bar to ask for things. To summarise, food ok, staff shocking and will probably go elsewhere next year after visiting on Christmas Eve for years.

The staff here are all lovely and welcoming, came for food with the family including a child, they had crayons and an activity sheet to keep her occupied, and ask the staff questions they know there stuff and if they don't know they are happy to find out!!

Had a lovely meal with family the bottomless brunch and roasts are a must try, best to book though!

Came in with some mates for a few drinks, good atmosphere and the staff really knew there stuff. Amazing selection of drinks and reasonably priced. Bar snacks were really good and we all enjoyed our time there.

Defender food in a good location

Visited this lovely and lively pub for our office Christmas party and it was absolutely amazing. They have their own parking space. The place is very well made. The staff were very friendly. They suggested the best wines and to top it up the food was lip smacking. I ordered the Prawn Linguine in Shell fish sauce and it completely blew my mind. Will definitely visit again. The best part was we found a small little fox in the premises when we were heading towards the parking area, maybe even the fox came to enjoy some drinks 😁

The decor and ambiance is great. The place looks lovely. The music was good and not too loud. The staff were lovely. The food was extremely disappointing and it could be made clearer that brunch is only on Friday as we came for brunch

I am a wheelchair user and the friend I had lunch with had 2 small children so booked a table for 5 although only 2 of us would be eating. Staff really went over and above to make having lunch at the Woodstock Arms a great experience. They moved chairs and adjusted the table so I could get my wheelchair in and a push chair and high chair. Roast Beef was lovely as well. A really treat

Used to come here all the time, thought would come back for a meal of 4. Food and drink was great! Problem was service and staff was shocking. Staff look lost and 3 out of 4 meals was 45-50 mins late. So 1 guest ate his, then waited nearly an hour before we got ours. Manager apologised which was fine, so ordered another drink. Which was 15 mins late. It was just a can of ale and I could see it sitting at the end of the bar. Had to ask where it was, staff didn’t have a clue and then I told them it was there… no apologies, just served and walked off. Once we finished we was asked for desserts, we didn’t want to risk it being so late before so refused. Shame as we wanted dessert. Overall, place, food and drinks is amazing. Staff need to learn how to not act like robots or just act like they care a bit about service. I’m actually really easily pleased so this is why it’s a shame to write this review! I would recommend Albert’s across the road, WAY better service, food and drinks is amazing. Obviously it’s not a pub but for food and drinks, go there!

Great spot for early Christmas dinner. Great quality food, atmosphere and serving staff. Prices were reasonable for the quality of food provided. Plus the look of the building added to the charm!

We booked a private area of the pub to celebrate a special award for 3 ladies who when given 170 years service to GirlGuiding locally. The staff were very accommodating and really looked after us all. Drinks were served to the table meaning we didn’t have to keep getting up for the bar. Always a great place to come. The food is great and the atmosphere is always vibrant and fun. But it's the service that makes this place special. The staff are amazing. We were served by Sam. We recently held a birthday party at the Woodstock for about 80 family and friends and it could not have been better. All our guests loved the venue, great buffet and the staff could not have been more efficient, helpful and friendly. Lovely experience and would not hesitate to recommend.

We went for a Sunday roast for my birthday with a big (slightly chaotic) table and we were well looked after. Sam was a star! Especially when it came to my sister + nephews dairy allergy. The food was very tasty (although my veggie sister was only given 2 roasties, my only qualm) and we had a lovely time. Recommend getting the roast sharing board!

Best Pub fish n chips in Didsbury

The waitress was really nice, friendly and professional. We were sitting near the fire on comfy sofa (best place to chill). Loved the choice of music!

Had the pie and mash, it was excellent. Alcohol is well over priced though.

We really enjoyed our visit BUT the food could have been a bit hotter, the gravy in particular was cold. We had 2 servers, a South African lad who was great and another sour faced miserable girl, it’s a good job we liked the lad.

The drink prices are excessive……just under £10 for a large white wine. Food for a family delivered intermittently with no real logic to the norm.

Saved our engagement party, after being cancelled by another venue we luckily struck gold in finding this venue. Great space, lovely staff and can’t recommend them enough thanks for having us!

Recently came with a couple of friends who are both vegetarian. We ordered the cauliflower bites and Parmesan fries. The food came out quite quickly and one of my friends asked the waitress for a glass of water. She was told to get this herself. My friend has been quite poorly and struggles walking due to the pain. I had brought her out as a bit of a treat and to get her out the house. But this was fine I went and got the water for her myself. We went on to eat our food and discovered that some of the cauliflower bites were in fact chicken bites. We called the waitress who apologised and asked “what do you want me to do”. She refunded the cauliflower bites. We did not eat anymore of the food left as we were concerned that if the cauliflower bites had been cooked with chicken that possibly the fries had too. Not a good experience at all. Both food and service was shocking. Very very disappointing and we went home hungry. Very concerning for people who have allergies too.

I do not understand the poor reviews. We have eaten here with friends twice in the last four weeks for Sunday lunch. Both times we all had the sharing board and it was excellent. Great value and really nicely cooked. The drinks selection is excellent and kept really well. The staff (Especially Sam) were really attentive without being over the top. We intend going mid week to try the food.

The day we visited was busy, I think there was a private function upstairs but we were seated quickly at our reserved table and orders were taken and food and drinks were served promptly. Nice atmosphere, we all enjoyed ourselves.

Fantastic pub, really big and bright space with a great drinks selection and always really friendly service. There’s also a massive part covered beer garden for sunny days. The food is amazing, love both the salads on the menu and the Sunday lunch and burgers are great too!! The bread boule used to be amazing, whole and served warm but they stopped doing that 😭.

Fish-n-chips. Wife had the roasted goat cheese salad. Both very good. Great service. sticky toffee pudding.

Popped in for lunch and had the steak sandwich with chips and a pint. Awful service when ordering needlessly having to run back and forth for a table number and no effort from the server to assist. I was eating alone and only 4 tables were occupied in the entire time I was there. I wanted to sit outside where nobody was sat so the server could have easily either pointed out a table number for me to sit or made a point of not worrying about a specific table number given how empty the place was. If the venue was busier, I'd be more understanding. The food was overpowered with the taste of burnt toast and impractical to eat as the offending toast had been sliced so thinly the sandwich could not be picked up without falling apart. The presentation of the food was amazing. They put on a very good art show, but the rest of the experience leaves much to be desired.

Early lunch on Saturday so understandably quiet. Service at both table and bar was excellent. Food arrived in a timely manner and was exactly as described. Accompanied by my sister who has Altzheimers and had a lovely relaxing lunch with no hassle. Will return.

This review is a reply based on Sultan Kozzi's 1 star review. Good points are made about the amount of staff changes, the food quality and availability, however these problems are being directed at the wrong people.The GM, management, supervisors, chefs and other staff have no control. This is a Mitchell and Butler problem, the staff are constantly having to apologise. Regarding Sultan Kozzi and her partner, they are a nightmare. Their 1 star review is based on their incompetence and arrogance. The Woodstock closes at 11pm during the week. From experience, I've seen them turn up most nights at 10.45pm and order one drink. They will then proceed to sit outside and refuse to finish their drinks after 11pm when the pub legally has to close and the staff need to go home. They clearly don't understand that hospitality staff also have lives to go to. The comments about Alberts make no sense as they are stricter with the licensing times that The Woodstock - the local pubs, bars and restaurants have laws to comply with, you are not special customers. The fact you even bring up people of colour is disgusting in itself. You are literally playing the race card as you're incapable of anything else, it highlights your ineptitude. As a local, please do not come back, it will be a nicer pub without you. Cheers, Matt

Been looking forward to coming here for years and unfortunately wasn't the experience we thought it would be. Booked table online arrived and no reservation. Restaurant manager booked us a table but when it come to being sorted felt totally ignored 15 mins wait for menu got our own . Once chosen then waited again before asking to have order taken. Waitress didn't write anything down just memorised which didn't work well. Calamari missed off starter when did arrive food was lovely. Mains arrived but table not cleared from starter. We had sharing Roast which was missing beef which was brought after I mentioned but no pigs in blankets , added cauliflower cheese which we had to remind about and mac and cheese which was also forgotten 🤔. Food okay but service was shocking. Unfortunately will not be coming again family meal turned into stressful occasion.

I have visited here in the past with the same group of friends and it was great, but today was disappointing. We were a group of eight and three people had finished eating by the time the last of us had our food served, and they had waited before having to start before their food went cold! The triple cooked chips were not triple cooked chips, rather they were over cooked frozen fries. We had two children’s meals and these were served last, which is never usually the case. In addition to this, only one of the three toilets has any toilet roll. Such a shame as the place itself is lovely and ideal for a visit for friends and children.
