Good food and service. The menu is a fairly standard one but with a good range (though perhaps more for vegetarians could be offered). Worth a visit.

We stayed in one of the self-catering units at the Woodlands Hotel for 2 nights last week. Our unit was well equipped & consisted of a lounge/kitchen & shower-room on the ground floor and a mezzanine level which was the bedroom. The bed was king size and was comfortable. The excellent shower was spacious. There is a microwave in the kitchen, a fridge & a kettle but no hob. We had requested a quiet room & it certainly was. We even had a sea view. The owners were very welcoming. My only suggestion for improvement would be that as the price includes continental breakfast it would be nice to have fresh bread/croissants & fresh milk, juice & yoghorts as there was just uht milk, yoghurts with a 3 month shelf life & one small long life waffle. Fresh filter coffee & a toaster would also be welcome additions.

My husband and I stopped off here on our way to the boat, beautiful location, friendly staff and amazing meal. I got the haggis and black pudding balls to start my husband had the soup of the day, both excellent, I then had the chicken fillet burger which came with chips and salad, my husband had the steak and ale pie with mash and veg, again both excellent, we both then had apple sponge and custard, gorgeous way to finish our meal. We will def be calling here again and we would both highly recommend.

We had a lovely evening meal here, arriving at 8:30pm on a Sunday. Often Sunday evenings in a restaurant can be a bit dead with staff giving the impression they want to close. Not the case here, although not hugely busy, there were a few couples and a pleasant relaxed feel that made us feel valued customers. The menu was varied, without being overwhelming and the pace of service perfect - I hate my food arriving with express speed when I'm out for the evening. We weren't on a dinner, bed and breakfast rate as others mention, but I found the pricing reasonable and the quality very good.

Dinner is included in the accommodation package so although some non residents have remarked that the prices are a bit high, in the package they offer good value. The tables are all a bit crammed in so there isn't really a restaurant feel or atmosphere to the room. Service was a bit hit and miss, friendly but at times overly casual. As for the food, the boss enjoyed both the starters she tried, the haggis and the peppers, but neither my pate nor salmon were exciting. Both evening she had a fish dish and enjoyed them both. The plate that my steak pie arrived on was cold so the mash soon became claggy, I did not finish it. The pie itself was ok. There was nothing so bad as to complain about but nothing that got be excited, which is part of the joy of eating out. The food is good pub grub served in large portions but there is room for improvement, grand if you are refuelling but not up to the mark if you are looking for that something a little bit more special.

Have to say I was disappointed with the actual bread, was expecting a nice thick fresh bread, but was just a thin slice of shop bought bread. The fillings were lovely. Served prompt & presented nicely. Just disappointed at the bread thou.

As a regular traveller to Cairnryan for the ferry we often stop in here. Lovely food with good presentation and very tasty. However, more recently the staff are more interested in their phones than customer service. We arrived about 5pm and had lovely salmon with roasted veg and potatoes and my partner had the chicken curry which had layers of flavour and was excellent! We were going to have dessert as we had some time to spare but we couldn't get the attention of the waiter who was more engrossed in his phone. We had to leave to catch our ferry but the dessert menu looked fab for us hence why we knocked a point off.

Visited twice here whilst on holiday in the area, one day after another it was that good! Service was brilliant, the food was gorgeous my husband had the steak pie and said it was the best he’d ever had! I had burger and chips and it was delicious big crispy chips, nice big portions to! Our children both had chicken nuggets which were fresh and they devoured them along with the garlic bread. Only £34 for 4 drinks and 4 meals which was amazing for the quality of food! Our second visit I had the macaroni cheese it was creamy and rich and went perfectly with the garlic break it came with. My children had the same as they loved it so much but followed up with ice cream with lots of wafers. My husband had the burger after seeing how delicious mine looked the day previous. We opted for desserts this time the sticky toffee pudding was heavenly and came with cream and ice cream, my husband had the profiteroles which he said were lovely and he got a big bowl full. Less then £50 for 2 courses for 4 people is brilliant value! Can’t wait to come again and try what else is on offer. The views out front are stunning especially on a clear day! Would love to try the hotel if we ever get a childfree weekend, looked lovely!

My family was a party of 5 which booked 3 rooms. One single which was a large sea view room, a double and twin located across the court. The double was spacious and really did have a sea view. The twin and double rooms had spacious seating areas for our family to gather with the beds located in an upstairs loft. All were beautiful, comfortable and immaculate. We had breakfast there 2 mornings and dinner once and all meals were just amazing with lots of vegetarian options for both breakfast and dinner. We booked the hotel to really get a break away and relax. On arrival we were given a warm welcome by the lady on reception and made to feel comfortable right away. Our room was very spacious and clean. We went to the hotel restaurant which was very modern in décor but cozy. As it was a lovely day we sat outside and watched the children having horse riding lessons which was fun especially being from a city, it added to the feeling of being away. We both ordered Panini's, I chose chicken and mozzarella and my husband chose the roast beef. Both came with salad and coleslaw sides. We ended up having half of each others and I would be hard pushed to pick the best, both had plenty filling and the meat was perfectly cooked and we washed them down with cider which for us was perfect. In the evening we returned for dinner and again a young and friendly staff welcomed us in. We ordered starters of scallops and black pudding which was sooo tasty, the portion size was just right and presented well. I opted for the mushroom soup which was served with a crusty roll, again a strong flavoured soup which I really enjoyed. We both opted for fish mains I had salmon and roasted vegetables and my husband had haddock gratin. The portions were both very generous and cooked perfectly. If I am honest I was jealous of my husbands haddock when I saw it and it tasted lovely. We were both stuffed and had no room for dessert. Two courses cost £17 per head and in my opinion were well worth it. We walked along the shore into Girvan afterwards to walk it off which took around 25 mins. In the morning we had a full breakfast of sausage, bacon, eggs, potato scone, hash brown, tomatoes and beans, I really enjoyed the sausages in particular and it set us up for the day. I would definitely recommend this hotel for the views, the welcome, value for money and would highly recommend the restaurant even if you are not a guest.

Went for dinner yesterday evening, not to celebrate Easter but a birthday. Been before a while ago for a nice steak n blue cheese panini (and coffees since wifi available),but dinner menu was now on the cards. I had a flavoursome Scallops and Black Pudding with Chorizo and chicory sauce and finely chopped chives which a) looked great and b) tasted the same. Dad had Haggis and Blackpudding Balls with a Drambuie sauce which also presented well and hit the spot. For main I went old school. Mixed Grill. Last eaten in a Berni in the 90's. Accurately described by helpful waitress as a plateful. Every piece of meat cooked to perfection, ribeye, 'real' gammon steak, plump chicken breast, and the rest- shrooms, onion rings, egg etc. Dads pan fried chicken with a red pesto sauce looked nice too, but I was too distracted by my plate to ask, or care...! Only really minor criticism? Do handcut chips, chuck on some sea salt. I'm splitting hair, I know...Good service, from initial welcome to table. Well done. It's easy to do well, equally easy to do badly. Highlight? Mixed grill was awesome, steak cooked medium rare, nice. But it has to be the sauce with the scallops. If the plate had been patterned it would be damaged. If in the area or passing by, give yer tastebuds a workout!

We stopped off here for some lunch and it was a lovely wee place. The gentleman who served us was very friendly and helpful. Quite a varied menu so catered to every taste. We chose a roast beef salad and a tuna/red onion sandwich with a side salad and some fries. Wow, huge portions!! And beautiful, fresh ingredients in all the dishes. To be honest we didn't need the side salad as the sandwich had a large salad garnish as well as some crisps. The roast beef was obviously homemade and was generously served with the salad, there was a separate dish with little dressed baby potatoes and various condiments: coleslaw, horseradish, French dressing. Totally delicious and all very filling. Reasonably priced for the quality and quantity. We will certainly be returning here.

My mum and I came here for a late lunch. We were welcomed by a lady serving at the bar and were the only people eating. The decor inside is lovely. Warm colours and the place is spotless. The view is stunning looking on to the hills and horses. The lunch menu has a good choice. I ordered a panini but requested no chicken as a vegetarian choice which they accommodated with no issues and asked if I would like roast veg instead. My mum ordered the burger. Both meals were superb. My panini came with crisps and salad. It was crispy and the flavours were great. My mums burger was huge! It also came with a salad and a separate portion of chips. There was also 2 huge homemade onion rings on top of the burger. I tried one of the onion rings and they were delicious. My mum is a fussy eater and said the burger was the best she has ever had. We also had a sweet each which was out of this world. Presentation was excelled by the taste. This place is a fantastic venue. Staff, food and surroundings are first class. Recommended by friends who stayed here recently. Can't fault anything. The room was excellent. Spotless with everything in it you could wish for. Huge comfortable bed. Evening meal to die for followed by breakfast next morning. Very pleasant staff. Only wish I had taken my bathing costume for the hot tub.

I ate several times at the restaurant attached to the hotel: service was lovely, food very good and price reasonable (2 courses 17, 3 courses 21,50). I would suggest goat cheese and sea bass.

Nice lunch as usual, large house red under a fiver, Caesar salad v good. Lady waitress nice and friendly but still professional. One area for improvement is the gents. Cubicle could not be locked, insulating tape across the wall electrical switch, several holes in the wall where it seems hand driers etc taken off. Generally needs redecorated. Hope this helps, didn't see the owners this time but it's a nice family run establishment.

Eaten here a few times times during a recent stay (plus breakfasts) and my only disappointment is that I wasn't staying longer so I could have tried other items on the menu. The food was all delicious, some of the best we've eaten. It's a nice, well run, unfussy restaurant. Good portion size too.The staff are great, efficient and just the right amount of friendly. I hope they get at least a share of the tips, as another review suggests they don't, they deserve it as they are all on their game.

I used the restaurant while staying at the hotel. The staff were excellent and attentive without hovering. The food was good but not excellent. I found my fish main course rather oily, however, the starter was good.I would like to try the restaurant again but perhaps with a meat main course.

We visited the Woodland Bay twice during our stay as they were dog friendly & happily welcomed our 3 furry friends. The lunch there was very well presented & good value & on our 2nd visit we just went for a coffee but were then tempted by their scones which were just out of the oven & were excellent. On both occasions we were served by Scott who was extremely polite & efficient & a credit to the place. When we went to pay we even had to question the bill as we thought they had under charged us but it was correct....it really was very reasonably priced. Would certainly recommend this venue for food, service & value for money & the fact it was dog friendly was an extra bonus!

This restaurant in a farmyard setting has plenty of parking. The food was excellent and the portions were large. The staff were very pleasant. It was however rather pricey.

Arrived for an unbooked evening meal and found only a few customers seated at the bar and one table alredy eating. Was told to "WAIT" no please wait or I'll be with you in a moment good evening etc etc just "WAIT" So i waited until the mobile phone went off and i waited some more. The three of us were eventuality properly acknowledged and about to be seated when the phone went off again and interupted our trek to a table.guess what, yes we waited again. Phone call completed i was asked how many for and were we having dinner, after already standing around i thought she might have noticed there were three of us but i civilly replied 3 for dinner please. The bar phone rang again and we were told to "just wait" again, this was fast becoming a fawlty towers sketch and i burst out laughing much to the annoyance of the waitress or whatever she was meant to be. A young man appeared and ask if he could help i once again requested a table for 3 for dinner, he told us to sit down wherever and he would get the menu's, he placed them on the table and left. When we looked at the menu they were lunchtime ones. So we waited for probably to long for someone to return and get drinks order or maybe even for food but after a while we gave up and left.

A group of us went here for our Christmas night out. It is a nice looking hotel and the staff were nice and friendly too! For a 3 course meal and a glass of fizz (which was 30 odd quid a head!!) - I found it to be pretty over priced if i'm honest! The starter was soup and a mini baguette which was quite nice, turkey dinner for the main course wasn't great and then profiteroles and cream for pudding which was nice! We all found that the service was pretty slow, I do understand that they were very busy that night but when we were asked to be in half an hour earlier, we kind of assumed that we'd have been served a bit more promptly. There was quite a large wait in between courses too which i know slightly irritated a few people in the group as we were all hungry! They had a band in playing after the meal had finished - can't remember what they were called but they were good! There was a lot of people up on the dance floor - myself included! :-)

First visit after a 7 year gap . Won' be returning soon.Very slow service by 2 uninterested unattentive staff (in particular the barmaid) neither were busy . Crumbly scones were unbutterable and fiddly . Plenty of butter & jam provided.Toilets and restaurant clean . Uninteresting outlook . The restaurant would do better situated at the front of the compound. No atmosphere . The restaurant lacks natural light and no outlook on a site that is surrounded by views of sea and hills

Great Lunch. The Dining Room looked very Christmassy and clean. The staff were all really nice and so helpful. The food was good and generous portions. The had extra touches such as good quality crackers, a drink on arrival and a personalised Christmas Card for each table. The restaurant was very easily accessed which was helpful as we had one elderly person in the party. Well done Woodland Bay for this enjoyable meal.

I made two recent visits to this lovely looking restaurant whilst travelling and the first thing that hit me was FROZEN CHIPS! I mean it was £10 for fish and chips but the fish was beautifully fresh on both occasions and opting for the delicious side salad seemed my idea of heaven. Right we've covered the chips so I will go to visit one. Meal was fish and chips, side salad and pot of tea. Fish gorgeous, chips lol frozen, salad and dressing lovely and fresh with almost three cups of tea from the pot, I left somewhat happy to be honest. Second visit, sucker for punishment, ordered same again and fish was broken in two over the frozen chips (which were chunkier but frozen) and the salad needed a miracle to revive it. Enjoyed the fish and the tea but I had taken two friends this time so we had juices and we're going to have dessert and coffee but our waitress must have finished and we just watched in amazement as the staff continually walked straight by our table. I suggested we all go into the entrance at the same time and one girl actually said good bye! I was not amused and somewhat embarrassed but I went up to the young lad at the till and asked if I could pay the bill for our table and he said "oh, I didn't realise there was anyone there!" I mean I like good service but to be forgotten about is simply unforgivable and I will not return. Couldn't fault the cleanliness though but the horses doing their business out the windows was a bit much and the restaurant in surrounded by the paddocks.

Decided to try here for lunch.Greeted by friendly staff.Good choice of menu but would say a tad pricey.Restaurant was very quiet.Ordered soup and a main course but due to dietary requirements I requested a glass of semi skimmed milk.Sorry but they only had full fat milk!! Next blip, the main course arrived before the soup.Profuse apologies and in all fairness we were not charged for the soup.Food was most enjoyable and would go back if in the area.

We stayed for one night at the hotel .... we'd opted for a room with sea vies etc ... the room was clean, very spacious and enjoyed a fantastic view of the coast etc .... we had no problems with noise from the main road. Free wi-fi was a bonus .... We ate in the restaurant ... it transpired that one of the chefs had taken ill .... and this caused delays in serving all the tables, the staff handled this well from our perspective, explaining the situation and offering free drinks to compensate for the delay. The fillet steaks were not as we'd ordered (both were over-cooked) but in the circumstances they were acceptable. Breakfast was tasty and service efficient ....

Went on a small adventure to Coylton Arms Inn. I have to say we will be back, the food is very good, a well seasoned lasagna with plenty of herbs, nice béchamel sauce and a good salad and french fries. The only small criticism was the lack of staff which made the wait slightly longer than necessary. The staff themselves were extremely welcoming and the ambiance was charming without being twee. Portion size was good without being excessive. All in all an enjoyable experience that I would recommend for a pub lunch.
