Haute cuisine it is not but good value for money. Service is ultra friendly and the size of the Carvery offerings was very generous. An agreeable family-oriented local pub.

We have just been for Sunday roast as a family. The roast dinner was a very big disappointment. The roast potatoes were dry and not nice at all party of 14 and everyone left there roast potatoes. The meat is not the best and the Yorkshire puddings were from a packet the staff are friendly enough and was happy to take a few puddings off the bill for the roast potatoes. I don’t think i would return in a hurry definitely not for a roast dinner.

The cask beer is great, and the south/southwest-facing patio is lovely for families and solos on a sunny day/evenig, with plenty of tables, and green fields beyond. Why, however, do they have to have "erzatz" music blaring out? If you want a quiet pint, it's a pain!

I have visited Woodies many times. My visit this week was the first time in about eight months. The waiting/floor staff have changed. Unfortunately, not for the better. The staff did not show the attention and respect that has always been outstanding. The gentleman who seemed to be in charge was loud slamming chairs down and with a very poor appreciation of the needs of the customers. We sat for ages with empty plates before we had to ask for the dessert menu. What a shame. The food and surroundings were as per usual great. Hopefully I was just here on a bad day.

A really nice family meal with the dog. Everyone really enjoyed their meal this evening but the lamb really stood out as the winner. Perfectly soft and just fell apart on the plate, presented on a bed of creamy mashed potatoes with veg gravy. A superb dish and absolutely nothing I could improve upon. Chicken burgers were lovely and fantastic crispy chips. The fact that woodies welcomes dogs is a bonus. We all really enjoyed our evening meal

This was our first venture out to a pub since lockdown, and we were very impressed with everything they have done to protect staff and customers. We were given a warm welcome and we were able to choose a table outside in the sunshine (there are sun shades for those that prefer or plenty of tables inside or on a semi enclosed patio - something for everyone!). We were treated to friendly and efficient table service and we felt so comfortable that we decided to eat there - traditional pub fare, cooked well and served by friendly staff. We will go again!

Wanted a pub with nice food, and this place had good reviews. However on arrival it was clear this pub is a real clicky place and everyone seemed to know each other. This always make you feel like your intruding into someone elses party. I have used Woodies since the days it converted from a sports club to a free house and I have seen a few changes. I consider it my local but I have never used it regularly enough to become recognised by the staff as a local. The real ale has always been good, the range of lagers offered is also now very good, and they also offer several 'proper' ciders of various flavours (personally I would rather have the Old Rosie back and get rid of ciders with strange fruits blended in!) and they sell Aspell Keg Cider which is ok but the now removed Scrumpy Jack was better. The reason I am now reviewing Woodies is that I can't believe I haven't reviewed it before but mainly because I believe the food deserves a mention. It has gone from a pub where apparently you could get a good Sunday carvery (never tried it myself) but nothing much else other than at lunchtime, to a pub where you can can now get a reliable well cooked evening meal with a good selection of items on offer. Having used it several times in the evenings over the last couple of years we have just returned from celebrating my wife's birthday (5 adults and 1 seven year old) and we all thoroughly enjoyed are choices.

Despite having lived in New Malden all my life, and passing the Woodies sign more times than I could ever count, we had never actually visited Woodies. For some reason we had a totally incorrect impression as to what it would be like. Fortunately, that has now been remedied and we are making up for lost time. They are friendly in every sense of the word. Family friendly, dog friendly, disabled friendly and just 100% welcoming with open arms. It is not just a pub or a restaurant it is somewhere that people can go, even on their own, and be made to feel welcome from the moment you arrive. The staff are efficient and so helpful. The tea is hot, the food is amazing and you get both quality and quantity. It retains the old fashioned pub atmosphere and you can sit and play cards, or a game or dominoes or board games. They also have large screen TV's for sport and music is also played but neither the TV nor the music is loud enough to impact on conversation. There is free parking, including two disabled bays. It has a warming fire and a warming atmosphere. There is outdoor seating as well and occasional events being held there. Great for any event, even just a night away from the kitchen and the washing up. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

Having been regulars at Woodies for years, over the last year or so we have eaten here less and less. The food quality has been variable and the prices have risen. Due to an unexpected change of plans we came for lunch today. We all ordered roast. It was OK, nothing fancy but the price is high. The chicken, to be honest, is more stuffing than chicken and the pork still had the string attached. It was all OK but we have had better. We all ordered desserts. Although the crumble was OK, more custard would have made it better. It is better than it has been but still needs refining. £60 is a lot for what we had. Bar / waiting staff are young but lovely (no one seems over about 25 so they are doing a great job for a young team).

I almost feel guilty telling people about this place, tucked away at the end of residential roads in a quiet suburb. I almost don't want it to be so popular I can't get a table here! Woodies is a quirky free house which has had a bit of a facelift recently and is a lovely, dog-friendly pub serving good food with a friendly 'club house' feel. On a Sunday, definitely order the roast! There is a selection of beef, pork and chicken with the plates brimming over with veg and Yorkshire pudding. The chef plays around with soup ingredients, so there was a curried parsnip and apple soup of the day, which was a resounding success. The service is really friendly, the smiles seem genuine and the service is efficient but

I've been to Woodies a few times for drinks and food over the last four months or so, having been around New Malden a fair bit recently. Their selections of ales and ciders are solid and the pub has a lot of character- no wonder it's become something of a regular thing for us!We went last week for a roast on Saturday, which was as good as ever. For just £7.15, I had a plate of beef with roast potatoes and all the trimmings, served up with a generous load of gravy (dark and fairly thick, just the way it should be). The staff are friendly enough as well- we've certainly never had any problems with them. The only downside is the lack of vegetarian options. This isn't usually a problem for us, but we had a vegetarian with us on this occasion and she was limited to veggie burgers or egg and chips. I know it's just a pub and there are only so many things they can offer, but it's hard to picture anything more boring, especially when the eggs, unfortunately, taste synthetic. That aside, if you're in the area and you're in search of a cheap roast with ample portions, or just a good selection of beers, there aren't many places I've been to that do a better job of it.

Woodies is a bit of an institution. They have a great selection of beers, the place is covered in old posters and full of locals. We have never eaten there, just stopped off for a quick drink and to try their newest guest beers, which change regularly.

I have been coming here almost every week for over 40 years. Woodies is a place you have to visit to appreciate its very special character. Finding it will take a bit of careful navigation, but the effort is worth it. There is a large free car park well away from the nearest road and the building, which used to be a sports pavilion, faces onto a sports field. Why would you come to Woodies? Well the food is all home cooked for a start, in addition to salads, and standards which are served every day, a specials board changes daily with such delights as Steak & kidney pie (a proper plate pie with pastry top and bottom), liver and bacon at least one 'roast' meal and I always consider their signature dish as being sausages, eggs chips & beans! All meals are prepared to order, but waiting time is generally modest. Sandwiches are prepared using proper loaves of bread cut thickly.Beers lovers are in for a treat - regularly voted top local pub by CAMRA members, in addition to at least five house real ales, there are always three guest ales and I am talking craft beers here not the majors - these are single barrels so they change almost daily, certainly I've never seen the same beers two weeks running.Another plus point is that there is no music or noisy games machines.Woodies is what you imagine a pub ought to be but rarely is, I hope to continue going there for the rest of my days!

This pub is a sports pavilion which has been extended with a veranda. It looks out over a sports ground in a residential part of New Malden, so you will need to stick the address in your Sat Nav as you are not going to find it by driving around New Malden.Well worth a visit if you fancy a simple, but well cooked lunch, in unusual surroundings. As mentioned elsewhere the place is simply covered with sporting, and other, memorabilia. It makes a fairly dark but interesting place to visit. Good selection or real ales and a nice atmosphere. It has a large carpark, but remember to ask for a token at the bar so you can raise the exit barrier.

My local. Landlady is very friendly and the staff too. Does get quite busy especially during the Beer Festival each year so be warned about queues when going along and needing some refreshment. Had a refurb recently which has opened it out and made it more accessible.

Woodies is one of these places in life that once you find it, you feel thankful for being introduced. Its not the sort of place you would ever wander past but would have to go out your way, or be sent to visit. A small pavilion which has been recently extended and subtlety improved, a quirky bar that is rare to find in this part of the world.Inside you will find an almost museum like display of sports paraphernalia which would fascinate any fan of soccer, rugby or cricket, pinned to the walls and ceilings. A long bar and one well placed tv, and almost your next best local. The only drawback is its own success, sometimes meaning long wait times at the bar (I have only been in on the weekends so apologies it thats not the case in the week).Good selection of beer and usual mediocre lager. Prices standard.Food wise, a good carvery style roast on a Sunday for £11, not the cheapest but filling. Seats outside, very child and dog friendly. Parking readily available on site.I would say Woodies is the type of pub that is as good in the summer with outside seating as it is in the winter with steamed up windows and hearty food.

You know when you discover a place that is so good, that you do not want to tell people about it just in case word spread? Well, Woodies is one of those places.Once a sports pavilion and now a Free House, Woodies serves a variety of beers. They often have beer festivals here as well as classic car shows in their car park. When you first walk in you think its a little gloomy, but then when you look around you see that the walls and ceiling are covered in sport programmes etc. stretching back years. There is one review on here that rated the place poor, they obviously missed the point of what Woodies is about,However, the best is yet to come - The Sunday Carvary. This comes at a modest price, but what you get on the plate is more than modest. They have the main four meats: Beef, Chicken, Pork and Lamb. The beef is served rare, medium and well done to cover all tastes. You can have one or you can have all four meats on your plate. Served with all the trimmings that go with each meat, plus veg and roast potatoes. I like a hearty meal but do struggle myself with 4 meats. They have meals for children if the roast is not suitable.Always best to call and try and reserve a table as it does get busy.As I said, Woodies is one of those wonderful finds that you don't want to tell other people about as you know its good reputation will spread.

Hubby has been coming to this quirky pub for years (for a mid-week pint with the 'lads'), but I only visit once a year for the Beer Festival (I don't drink beer, but the atmosphere's good). Woodies is dog friendly and we'd heard they did a good roast, so today we decided to stroll down with our youngest son and the dog and try it. Lunch is served between 12.30 and 4.00pm. We arrived at about 3.40pm, so there was a chance that the food could have been a bit 'tired', but it wasn't - it was lovely. They offer beef, lamb, pork or chicken. We all ordered roast beef (cooked rare) with all the trimmings. It arrived swiftly and consisted of a generous helping of rare roast beef, roast potatoes, new potatoes, cabbage, carrots, broccoli and Yorkshire pudding - all perfectly cooked and served with a very tasty gravy. An adult 'all you can eat' portion costs £10.95, the child (single portion) costs £7.95. I couldn't have eaten another thing, but hubby and son can always manage another Yorkshire, so they asked for more. They were unlucky, as by this time it was well after 4pm, so the kitchen was closed and the food had been cleared. Fair enough - next time we know to go earlier. A very good quality Sunday lunch, which we will definitely try again.

A real quirky local pub seldom seen locally these days. The interior full of sporting memorabilia is fun and informative a real reminder of days gone by.The new outside extension is brilliant as even on cooler days you can sit comfortably outside. This pub is also dog friendly so a pint with the pooch is always appreciated and staff ask ways provide water for them. Day to day pub grub is great, sandwiches and plough mans plentiful. The Sunday roasts are huge and great value for proper home cooked food.Fancy watching the rugby / football with a couple of pints in a traditional local the head to Woodies. By the way staff are friendly but are usually very busy so don't always have time for pleasantries. Please as long as you get a cold pint and a decent meal do you always need it served with a huge grin and have a nice day!!!! Great pub try it.

This is unashamedly a local pub for local people. The inside is quirky, cluttered and utterly unique. It's old fashioned in the sense that its a 'traditional' style of pub, very definitely not a 'gastro pub' - and all the better for it. We've only ever eaten the Sunday lunch here, which is fabulous - exactly what you want of a traditional Sunday roast. Nothing fancy, but everything very tasty, well cooked and with all the usual suspects veg wise - and plenty of it too. And all for a very fair price. Keep it up Woodies!

Never seen a decor like it - hundreds of football programmes and other sports memrobillia. Load of lovely real ales. Bits of the place straight out of the 70s too - love that. Friendly staff. Unique and a gem. Tucked away so make sure you check out exactly where it is beforehand.

Woodies is a traditional pub tucked away in a secret location. Popular with the locals and dog walkers. The events the team put on our great including the annual beer festival. Highly recommended and plenty of room to sit following their front extension.

We used to live just down the road from here. We were up visiting friends when we thought we'd nip in for something to eat. The outside has been revamped - with a great seating area and looks great. The inside hasn't changed a bit thankfully! Still full of atmosphere with a real "locals" feel to the place. Lots of people around but it didn't feel crowded (might be a different story in the summer though!) Great choice of well kept bitters/beers and the bar menu is quite extensive with everyone catered for. All the food is freshly cooked and was served by lovely friendly staff. In fact, we liked it so much we went back again a couple of days later when we were in the vacinity again!

As always Woodies delivers uncomplicated delicious pub grub at very reasonable prices. The charm lays in the eclectic collection of sports memirobilia coupled with friendly service. I've been coming here for years and have never been disapointed. They have an amazing beer festival in the summer too!

They do some terrifc beer here and it is well run. When we have an evening with little to do, especially in the summer, it is a great place to cycle to, away from the crowds as much as you can do so close to London. We've not tried the food but I'm not a pub grub eater.

I was expecting something a bit more classy and some decent quality food. After finally finding I was shocked at how grubby it feels..it needs a declutter. The owner probably takes a lot of pride in this place but maybe it needs new management or ownership. Tiny menu and no food ordered as i dread to think what the kitchen cleanliness was. It seems to be a Sunday afternoon place and does serves good pint of cask in fairness. Couldn't give more than a two. Some work required I feel.

If you love the steamed-up windows of a traditional chippy on a cold evening, and a paper wrapper brimming with tasty chips, Cod upon Thames is for you. The staff are friendly and chatty, the fish is good, the chips are even better (or should that been even batter?), and it’s only the stark décor and brutalist interior that denies this little local treasure the full star rating. Maybe it's the oil, or the way they cut them, but the chips are plump and flavoursome. Burnished metal walls make it feel like you’re in a shipping container, and the counter is so high it’s only possible to glimpse the staff. But let’s focus on the food. It’s the usual mixture of bangers (some in batter), chicken, burgers and fish ‘n’ chips. Standard fish and chips is under seven quid, pies are £2.40, and you can get chip butties (£1.60), cheesy chips for £3 and standard chips – a good-sized portion – for £1.80. Extras include onion rings, mushy peas and baked beans, and Cod upon Thames also does pineapple fritters and curry sauce. Soft drinks are housed in a large fridge at the far end.

The Chessington oak is a very welcoming pub from the outaide and in, the staff and also the regulars. The food was excellent and didn't need to wait too long, however the staff are very good at communicating and if there is a wait on food they will keep you updated as much as possible, the drinks and food are very reasonably priced and have a wide range of draughts and bottles. They even have a wide range of kids food and drinks as they have they're own menu. They show most sports from football to even f1 so I must say due to the new management the pub has improved massively so thanks to Carlos, Tom and the team for a very pleasant experience. 10/10
