Met up with old (in both senses) work colleagues for our regular get together. The service from Ali, Nat and Katie was first class. I had a particularly difficult journey to reach the restaurant and Nat was at our table to take my drink order with impeccable timing. The lunch was excellent and the espresso coffee the best I have had anywhere in recent times.

Great spot to refresh after a lovely walk around Cannock Chase. Short drive from Seven sisters car park (free). Staff (particularly Nat and Tiss) were accommodating and we had a great service. Bar snacks 3 for £10 was a bargain!

We went with another couple for Sunday lunch. The food was delicious and we all enjoyed it. The only thing I would complain about was it was too cold. People put their coats back on. Considering it was pretty full and yet still was cold indoors shows they need to make it warmer. We left straight after eating as it was that cold.

Had a table booked for 2030, food was great but the mains came out less than 5 minutes after starters had been cleared and by 2130 we'd had the bill brought to us even though we hadn't asked for it. Good staff, good cooking but no need to rush through things.

We were held at the entrance,the.hostess being engaged in a lengthy discussion with someone who had put a dog in the part of the pub where dogs were barredWe ate duo of lamb and fish and chips followed by Cremes brûlée.It was all pub food frozen chips ,fatty and rather tough lamb and vegetables rather limp through having been kept hot or microwaved None of this was unexpected and the staff were obliging. and friendly

We visited today with family and 3 dogs, we were given a great table by the fire, the dogs settled down and we had a really tasty and well cooked Sunday lunch. The staff were amazingly kind and courteous, fussed the dogs, bought them treats. We don't get the chance to see each other often, so it was real treat to enjoy a fab meal in comfortable friendly surroundings. Thank you and we will return

Could not have been better, service, food and atmosphere. Everything asked for was available, no waiting, just first class in every way.

Initial greeting ( after waiting at the door for a good few minutes) wasn’t great, but it was a busy Saturday lunchtime, so maybe staff were just rushed. Loved the overall seating and layout and great atmosphere. Main courses of duo of lamb and gammon were both hot and tasty. puddings - sticky toffee and banoffee were both delicious. The big letdown was the starter courses. Scallops and king prawns nearly £10, but we were celebrating a birthday , so went for it expecting juicy king prawns and scallops. The reality was very different , tiny scallops and three little prawns ( not king prawns). We did tell out waitress it was disappointing and not really as described, but she was indifferent to our comment. We would return, but would skip on the starters.

Regular visitors to this cosy venue. We tend to go on a Sunday late afternoon.it’s busy, so always best to book, but we find the food to be of a high standard and the service is friendly and efficient. My daughter is a type 1 diabetic and they are accommodating to her needs to sometimes have food quickly after taking her insulin.

Overall not a bad place however at £9.00 for two pints is literally taking the …. Situated in a really nice part of Staffordshire outside Rugeley

Repeat visit after a great visit last month. We booked for Sunday lunch for myself, my husband, and two children. Me and my husband both decided to order the roast trio which came out proptly, hot and nicely presented. Yorkshire Puddings and gravy were delicious and we finished off with two vanilla cheesecakes. Good value and very friendly service!

I popped in for with my partner for a quick drink on a quiet Monday Afternoon. I've visited this pub many times over the years but I'm afraid it was let down today by a very offhand barmaid. We only had one round of drinks and decided to leave, mainly due to her bad attitude and making us feel unwelcome. I don't quite know what her problem was but removing the chip from her shoulder might be a start!

Very disappointed with Sunday lunch, previous times always been lovely food good service. We ordered the Trio of Roasts which should be sirloin of beef, breast of turkey and pork belly with crackling and lemon & thyme stuffing wrapped in bacon which is more expensive than other dinners as you get selection of 3 meats you would think, when our dinners came mine had slice of turkey no beef and lump of fat for the pork the other 3 very similar nobody had 3 meats stuffing or crackling, we did call the waitress back and explain she didn't really comment said she would go tell kitchen, the dinners where not hot to start with so waiting for response didn't help finally they brought plate with few pieces meat on and additional gravy, not really what you want when paying £15.95 each, it was as if they didn't have enough food to go round so halved the dinners they normally serve.Not really worth spending over £60.00 on 4 dinners to all come home hungry and disappointed.

Wonderful service, very friendly. All drinks and food orders taken at the table. Meals were delicious and we enjoyed fish n chips, hunter's chicken and a great chicken pie and stone baked pizza. Will definitely return especially when the fires are lit in autumn. Great spot beside the river Trent.

We were on a canal boat weekend and moored up here on the Friday night. We had an excellent meal and liked it so much that we timed our trip so that we could return here for Sunday lunch.

Visited on a Friday evenings as a couple. The restaurant was busy, parking a problem. I had to park elsewhere and walk over the roadback to the pub. The food was delicious, although we didn't like the idea of a prawn cocktail on a plate. It should be in a bowl. Mains were delicious. Staff were polite and attentive. Would recommend.

Best resturant to eat by far in the UK. Amazing food, tasted so so good. Great portion sizes and cooked to perfection. Lovely and cozy decor and waitess was fantastic, she deserved her tip. Just got home and very full. We will return again:-)

Pubs appear to be struggling for staff and supply chains are clearly in disarray after Covid so it was a pleasant change to see a busy, vibrant pub with a full menu and attentive staff! My parents and I visited the Wolseley arms on Saturday for tea. The staff were amazing and helpful especially to my mum who couldn’t get up the step to the restaurant so they immediately arranged for us to sit at another table, nothing was a problem for them. They were kind and helpful. Food was so delicious and hot. Will be visiting here again. Thank you.

Booked for my mums birthday meal and it was such a great night. The food was amazing . The staff were lovely although we did have to keep asking where are drinks were but I think they had someone new on and they were busy. Apart from that anything we asked for that wasn't on the menu they catered for us superb . Great evening Thank you all would highly recommend.

Came here on saturday evening. Booked via the phone to be given 2 times.. 615 {too early} 815{little late} we accepted this time. We went at around 715 with intent to get a drink outside . We went to get a drink and wasa told we could go straight to our table. Pub was half empty. Why did it offer only 2 times? Anyway we were grateful as this was perfect time for us to eat. I opted for the Steak and triple cooked chips. lovely.My wife went for the Belly Pork. Although nice....it was half the size as the one from another Vintage Ales pub the Bakers Arms. The Mash appeared and tasted like Smash. We were little dissapointed. The Staff were really nice and attentive though. Nice area . See if you can sort portion consistancy across pubs. Check the potato and look at your booking system. Thanks

Great meal as a Fathers day treat. Great service and great roast dinners. Staff were attentive and food plentiful. Not sure about the Mediterranean vegetables though - seemed unnecessary in a roast dinner. Will certainly be back though.

Visited The Wolseley Arms recently whilst in the area on our narrowboat. Around a 5 minute walk from the canal, the pub is well maintained and very comfortable. The menu is varied with plenty of choice. Staff were friendly and efficient. The food is a little on the pricey side but was good and enjoyed by all in our party... especially the burgers. The outside space is pleasant but the noisy road does kind of detract a little. Overall a nice place to eat.

We come here a lot and the food is always lovely. Today we had House Burgers and they were divine. Full of flavour and topped with plenty of pulled Pork and Cheese sauce. The chips were tasty and the onion rings crispy. The service here is always great too

6 of us met for fathers day lunch having the set 3 course menu. We had a lovely round table at the back, service was very efficient and food excellent. The roasts were all large in size and tasted home cooked. The desserts were even better especially the choc brownie and the choc torte. Would definitely recommend and will be returning.

Was treated to a lovely Father’s Day Sunday roast dinner and the food was delicious and considering how busy it was on the day, service was amazing and all staff was very pleasant on such a pressured day was nice to see happy jolly people on family gatherings again after such a hard year and great to be back using it many thanks all.

One of my first meals back out of restrictions and very pleased with the choice of options that were availlable. We didnt book but it wasnt a problem, we also wanted to sit outside where we was advised to use the app which was handy to use once downloaded. Drinks and food arrived smoothly, I had the salmon and my friend had the chicken schnitzel also very nice! Will definitely be back

We recently moved around the stafford area and I've being eyeing up this pub for a while ,the location of the pub is brillaint so yesterday I booked a meal for me and my partner.On arrival we was greeted lovely and looked after .It dudbtake while for drinks to come however I think covid plays a part in that it was no fault of the staff to be honest. We had a starter the mushrooms first and wow very indeed I could of had another one to be hoenst .I then had the slow cooked beef and it was very nice, loved the gravy (the sauce) the beef I think could of been cooked little longer for my taste but I'm very funny with beef and if I don't like it I will leave it or send it back and to be hoenst it was very nice qnd I enjoyed it . My girlfriend has the pork belly and that was very nice indeed also full of flavour Overall I really enjoyed our visit and very happy have this not far from where I live so that massive bonus Be back very soon

Stopped here on the way back from seeing friends in the local area before lockdown came back in force. The service was excellent all covid measures were is place. The meal was lovely and it finished off a wonderful day.

Visit multiple times every year. Never had a bad meal. Always friendly and helpful staff, nicely prepared food at reasonable prices.

Good service but only average food. In fairness it was only just after the first lockdown had ended but even so it was only average at best.

After mooring up at bridge 70 on the canal, a quick stroll and we were at the pub. The manager greeted us and explained service due to covid before handing us over to Karen. Karen was charming and a real credit to the establishment. Service was well paced and attentive. The food was better than the previous evening at The Anchor in Coven, especially the chips. Its obviously a well thought of place, as it was very busy and everyone seemed to be enjoying their evening, but it was good to see social distancing was underway with dining areas split up and tables well spaced. If we were in the area again we would return and would recommend this pub. Well done to the team here.

First visit since the pub reopened after a re-fit and Covid restrictions. Pub is really cosy, warm and pleasantly decorated. We were welcomed by a male who was very friendly. However, things went a bit downhill from there. Our waitress was not particularly friendly and seemed to bang everything down on the table without saying very much. I had met a friend I hadn't seen for months and didn't want to cause a fuss, but my meal was quite poor. I ordered a special of Salmon, which came with roasted tomatoes, new potatoes and pesto. I asked to swap the potatoes for skin on fries, which were nice, but the Salmon looked anaemic, probably cooked in a microwave. It was also chewy as it was over-cooked. The tomatoes were just mushy and tasteless. The pesto was nice. Now it wouldn't have been too bad had the meal not cost £16.50. I eat out quite a lot and I really have had much, much nicer meals for much less. The meal was very poor value for money. My friend asked to swap her Garlick bread for a salad, the salad was also disappointing; literally half a tomato and a few shreds of lettuce. I am honestly unlikely to ever darken the door of this establishment again any time soon. Such a shame, as the pub is very nice.

Visited at 7pm Wednesday 28th.First the good bits. Food was good and for our friend who needs gluten free, the menu choices were checked to make sure they were OK for her.Covid arrangements were explained to us by the gentleman who greeted us at the door. Sadly we were let down by the waitress who served us. She spent quite some time chatting to a friend on a nearby table despite our best attempts to get her attention. Then when taking out orders came right up to the chair, put a foot on the cross member and leaned on the back of the chair we were sitting on forcing us to lean over to avoid her actually touching us. No distancing at all.Possibly just a bad night but a night spoiled by bad inconsiderate service.

Food and service were excellent, fabulous varied menu catering for everyone (I’m vegan!), amazing find!

I had my first visit here lunchtime on the 21.8. The precautions taken, make it a very safe environment. I was met at the door and shown to my table. All Orders for drinks and food, service and food were excellent. A new one way entrance/exit system in place. I will definitely return.

Lunchtime Wednesday 22nd July. The staff are great and the atmosphere is as good as it can be with current restrictions. In a party of six all were very pleased with the food that they had. My Duo of Lamb was excellent.

We usually come here on a Sunday for a roast trio and have had many lovely experiences, the last time we came our food was cold but they were very busy so we won't let it put us off coming again and as we were with friends with children we didn't tell anyone. The portions are great and we really like the food. We sometimes come just for drinks as it is lovely atmosphere, cosy, comfortable and a nice way to pass the afternoon looking forward to coming again soon. This was the last place we went before lockdown :-) I love the roaring fires adds a little romantic touch!

The restaurant has been refurbished since our last visit and is bright and welcoming. Unfortunately our overall experience was nowhere near as positive. They were clearly short staffed on the day of our visit and the restaurant was full so there was quite a wait between ordering and the arrival of our food. That was not a particular problem. The real issue was with the food itself. 4 of the 5 of us were unhappy with either the quality or the quantity of the food. The crispy duck salad was v disappointing as there was very little duck and it wasn't crispy. It is a lot to pay for some strips of veg! My salmon had a nasty aftertaste and i was actually sick when i got home. Even the Lasagne was burnt on top and v dry, with poor quality meat.All in all a really disappointing meal which will make us look for an alternative venue; a shame as it is a convenient place to meet up for the family.

Didn’t book as the website was playing up so just turned up at lunch time. My son has a dairy allergy so we asked for an allergy menu and straight away the bar lady brought us a child‘S menu and an iPad with all the allergy information we needed. When I went to order the manager that served me instantly went in the back when he realised that there was an allergy and confirmed it all with the kitchen staff. He then checked with us that it was ok to put the burger in a vegan. In as this is what was safest.They couldn’t have been more helpful, thank you so much. The Horns at Slitting Mill could learn a lot.

Wish we lived closer as we haven’t been since before Christmas but always make a point of popping in when we are close by. Even though we don’t come often the manager always recognises us and makes us feel welcome. The food is really tasty and great value I couldn’t fit in a pudding as the main course was so filling but I enjoyed my gin and tonic and the great atmosphere . We will be back next time we are in town.

It had been a couple of years since we had eaten here but thought it worth a try as it's quite local. A Tuesday lunchtime belated Valentine's day 2020 treat. It was quite busy with a reasonable atmosphere, decor scruffy with walls needing attention at the very least. Ordered drinks then our meals of a duo of lamb for my husband and the hunters chicken for myself. After a not unreasonable time of 25 minutes our meals arrived, my husband thought the duo of lamb was acceptable however the roasted carrots were of a questionable texture more like a solid blancmange and the shepherds pie (mainly potato) did not reach the top of a 1" deep dish. However it was hot and tasty. The hunters chicken left a lot to be desired, the chargrill chicken was chard dry, the cheese and bacon were present but not in a smoky tomato sauce, the mushrooms were chopped so small you'd have a job to tell what they were, the triple cooked chips were more like bits of oven chips and the barbecue sauce served on the side was tepid. Very unappetising, I think I drew the short straw ! Needless to say we didn't stay for dessert and it will be a while before we try again. In saying all this I should add that the staff we came into contact with were polite and curtious and on being asked if everything was ok I actually said "I'd had better" . I acknowledge I was given the opportunity but chose not to have my meal replaced. Also in fairness to the staff when we returned home and studied the receipt we had not been charged for my meal. The conclusion I came to is that perhaps the chef/cook needs to ensure that the food they send out of the kitchen is the same as actually described on the menu so it doesn't ' let the side down' .

The food and service was good and there is a nice atmosphere about the place.The downside is the price of a bottle of wine....£17.50 for a bottle of house white is just taking the Micky!

I had the vegan butternut squash curry, firstly it the size of a starter and more importantly it was like congealed rice and squash on a plate, I think I would be ashamed if I had served this up

I’ve previously enjoyed my visits and thought I’d treat my mate with a birthday lunch as he’d driven up from Stratford upon Avon.On this occasion our meals and the customer service were poor and I was embarrassed that I’d bought my good friend here for a treat which was anything but. On arrival there was a distinct absence of staff that should have been a warning. Apart from the barman who seemed a bit cold to his solitary customer role.Our starters - prawn cocktails - were bland and the lettuce and prawns looked like they’d been quickly thawed as the latter had a glassy look. The bread roll was overly chewy and tasteless.Our main courses were large fish cakes and hunter’s chicken. My large fish cakes were clearly the small ‘starter’ ones; the vegetables were cold/hard potatoes; limp lettuce leaves and two florets of tough bricolli. My friend’s chicken was tough although the chips were tasty and his veg more generous.A couple of drinks and the bill was £42. We both agreed that we would have done better spending under £10 for a couple of Wimpys from the nearby driveup.Service at the table was slow and the man who served us was matter of fact reflecting that they were rushed. On paying our bill I told the barman about some of the problems. Calling me ‘young man’ (I’m 64) he said that he’d tell the chef and they’d get it right next time.... I didn’t appreciate his glib attitude and I won’t return.

We met friends there to discuss holidays(two couples), and we had a very enjoyable meal. There was a wide choice of dishes throughout and the service was most attentive and efficient.

We were visiting family nearby and stopped off for lunch here. It was very busy in the pub but that didn't impact on our lovely meal. The staff were very pleasant and friendly and even though they were clearly rushed off their feet they still took care looking after us! The food was lovely and the wait time considering how many people were there was very good. We will definitely be back for more!

Myself & my family have been regular visitors of this lovely pub for many years - I love the atmosphere, the decor, the food & the staff are just fab. We had a family get together at Christmas & it was the most perfect day. Our recent visit in January was made extra special by Karon - such a credit to the Wolseley Arms. We felt really looked after, our food & drinks were served in extremely good time, we had fun & Karon made us feel very welcome. We will be back again in March for another family birthday celebration and cannot wait xx
