Wok Ever Palace in Kirklees

We ordered takeaway on the phone, which was ready at the time they advised and was exactly as ordered. The food was very good, and the portion sizes were large - in fact there was even some left over for the following day. We would definitely recommend and will be returning.

Had another excellent dining experience at Wok Ever Palace, the food was delicious and the service was very smooth, a special mention to the restaurant manager Ming who always makes us very welcome.

We were a group of 9 celebrating a birthday. We were given the little room upstairs to ourselves which was nice. We ordered a set meal and the team were happy to accommodate changes and amendments. We had some children in the group and we’re going to order separately for them. The manager suggested there would be enough food for the kids there which was a really nice gesture. No pressure to spend additional money. The food was really good, everything was tasty and we tried a couple of dishes that were new to us. The kids enjoyed trying things they wouldn’t have normally had, the duck pancakes were a hit for them! The food came out at a steady pace and it was spot on in terms of quantity. We’ve travelled from Huddersfield a few times before and will continue to do so for great food and great customer service.

I have been coming to the restaurant for a long time along with my family, we've also come on special occasions always been very satisfied with everything,at the moment I don't go out very often through ill health,so we get take aways which we have enjoyed, NOT Tonight lid wasn't on ribs ok sauce all over car seat and my husband's jacket ,duck over done chips hard .27 -7-2024

Really nice Chinese food with an interesting menu. I think you would have to travel into Leeds city centre to get Chinese food that even approaches the same quality.

I ordered some food and it tasted rizzy and my mouth felt like it was going to explode, I asked for no pinto beans and they still put it in and I had an allergic reaction, then i confronted the waiter but he punched me in the face and broke my nose and i was unconscious for 5 hours.Very bad!!!!

Food was lovely and served quickly. We were celebrating a birthday and they put up a banner and brought a cake out. Only issue is slightly pricier than I expected.

Pricey but worth it. By far the best Chinese around. The ribs are unreal too. You do need to make the curry sauce tub bigger though. It used to be bigger, its not enough for 2 people.

Had a lovely meal here for a family birthday, the service was outstanding. They were quick efficient and attentive. As it was a Sunday early evening there were only a few tables in so it seemed very quiet, but that didn't spoil the meal. Most of the party went for the set meal, which is great value at £16.95 for two courses. Myself and my partner ordered off the menu as he is very fussy, they accommodated him really well. The food was lovely, but not outstanding so I can't give it a 5. Overall though I'd recommend and probably visit again, if I was in the area.

(Edit: The establishment’s response appear to have taken my written review out of context in order to form a defence rather than carry out the simple troubleshooting tasks as suggested. I have removed a paragraph in order to add this edited note as well as updated my review to highlight this.) The décor suggest a restaurant of above average food. Rather than authentic Cantonese food, or even the cliché British recreation, I would describe the food at Wok Ever to be at best resembling a mediocre takeaway served up on little plates. Fortunately for them, Cleckheaton is devoid of a barely acceptable Chinese takeaway on a Tuesday. Tasty Life in Heckmondwike shuts on a Tuesday. The cliché dishes are good enough, however, Wok Ever's owner(s) appear to have the audacity to include items such as Typhoon Shelters Style Soft-Shell crabs for £8 per HALF a previously frozen crab. What arrived on the table was completely unrecognisable from the original Typhoon Shelter style or the later heavily fried garlic Typhoon Shelter style. It was a little plate of soggy mixed veg stir fry soft shell crab. Charged £16 for it. It was an insult not only to the now-closed Typhoon Shelter eateries but to every Chinese kitchen ever. This item is listed under "Chef's Recommended Starters". Wok Ever also produced their idea of a "Signature" Steamed Seabass with Ginger & Spring Onion. What arrived appeared to be two skinny supermarket Seabass filets with a barely detectable amount of ginger and spring onion. Overcooked, tough, dry and without any detectable amount of soy sauce. They charged £18 for this insult. It is as IF a small child never previously having cooked attempted to produce the dishes following badly written instructions. Using a microwave. On to the subject of the cliché dishes, please get the phone out and revisit what a young chow fried rice is. It certainly shouldn't be brown. Margins are tight but a Chinese place ought to use genuine AAA jasmine rice. On the subject of service, a person arriving in a wheelchair should not be loudly and publicly asked whether a table on the ground floor is preferred. And not twice. However, I do not believe the front-of-house staff member to have malice. It is my belief this is the owner's doing. The owner bosses his staff around in a belittling and condescending tone. There is no please, there is no can you? would you? There appeared to be no respect or honour. This is then regurgitated by staff. We were attended to by two staff members. They were kind, fast to service and did it all with a smile. The female member answered questions clearly and with speed. She was most definitely on it. Both staff members appeared to work in fear of being bossed around by the manager. Had we only been attended by the two staff members that would have been fine. However, the owner(manager) also approached us frequently. When I say approached, I mean hassled. We had to ask him to leave us alone. Despite asking to leave us alone, at the end of the meal whilst trying to depart at speed he returned to hassle us for feedback. Had we the time we would have given him this review in person. I am still happy to tell him straight in person however we are never to again visit. I would recommend that you delete items from the menu. Your chefs need only watch a few YouTube videos to make improvements to the rest. One would expect 5 chefs with 15-20yrs of experience to know better. Perhaps they are bored. Clean and dry your plates. Discard old, worn and damaged plates. This is a Chinese restaurant. Where are the chopsticks? Your staff are human beings, please speak to them with respect and kindness. There is no advantage to bossing your staff around in front of customers. Read the room, stop buzzing around and hassling customers. Meals taste better without the presence of a toxic personality. Like every organisation, a restaurant starts with its manager. That improvement can be made for free. Fortunately for Wok Ever, its local demographic has lower than average standards-judging by your seabass and comedy crab.

Food was abysmal. Absolutely shocking but expected when food comes out the kitchen in 2 minutes. Chicken was white like ash and had almost no flavour and I’ve ended up paying a mortgage for something I didn’t even touch like a mong.

If I could leave 0 stars I would horrible service overpriced bland food no taste at all go elsewhere unless u like unseasoned food

Me and my family went in thought it would be nice food came out after 5 minutes of ordering the chicken was bland had a fishy smell to it the rice was tasteless the chips were plain. Decided to leave after the food wasn’t nice saw the bull for 4 people the total came to £150 we all ordered one thing never going here again will recommend people to save their money and go somewhere better this was appalling

Food was lovely. Service good. Little bit expensive. But I guess you get what you pay for. Was very thirsty. But did have salt and pepper ribs.

Amazing food at Wok Ever Palace! Everything was delicious, cozy and friendly service. Highly recommend and will definitely go back! One thing that was missing was cocktails 🍸 but they still have a choice of spirits, beer, wine etc.

We went as a group of 4, including a very lively 6-year-old. We had a very nice time, food and service were great. Thank you for accommodating our request for a table in a quiet area. Will definitely come back!

Fantastic meal for our son's 12th birthday. Wok Ever Palace never disappoints, and sure enough, tonight was another example of this. Three of us ordered the spare ribs for a starter (with various sauces), and I had the salt and pepper fish. All very generous and flavoursome portions. Main courses were equally good: chicken satay; duck with ginger; roast pork sichuan; chicken with OK sauce. The adults polished off all of their food, but the kids had a little left over to take home, not because they didn't like it, on the contrary, they loved the food, but they're at the age where one main to share is not enough, and a main each is a little too much. However, it will be a little treat for later in the week! Service was also excellent from start to finish, very friendly, helpful and accommodating, despite the restaurant being fairly full. Always a pleasure to visit here, we gave our son the choice of where to go for his birthday meal, and it was an excellent choice, enjoyed by all! Thanks to all of the staff for a great evening.

Great evening at Wok Ever Palace. The food was delicious. We opted for the Shanghai banquet which was a great way to enjoy a mix of different starters and main dishes; each course/ dish was great, I couldn’t pick a favourite. Would recommend and will hopefully be back soon.

Great atmosphere, great staff, however the food were tasteless and salty. Fried noodles no flavour but saltiness . But really had a good catch up with my friend.

Terrible take away bland food top price

Was a very nice mean out, me and my partner dined in and was served in about 15-20 minutes after ordering, food was amazing. Would highly recommend for any couples who enjoy chinese cuisine

We ate here midweek and had the 2 course midweek special menu. Absolute bargain thought the portions would be smaller but nope. Definitely revisit on the cards for this one - bargain at 14.95.

Extortionate prices for a restaurant in cleckheaton. I understand you need to charge more when dining in but double the price of takeaway prices….seriously! Yes you can argue overheads but compare it to other local places. Sukothai in Leeds city centre, better reputation and expensive location charge less. I’ll admit Nice food and the young waitresses were helpful but not justified by the price. £14 for a chicken curry, £3.90 for a glass of Coke? £6.50 for 4 very small dumplings…

We went on New Years Eve! A fabulous night for 5 of us. The food was amazing, staff were fantastic and the dancing and karaoke was good fun. Thank you all for making it a great experience.

We took 8 friends who were going for the first time and as anyone who had been there would know the owner Ming who runs the restuarant with military precision was unsuprisingly absent on the night but nothing changed the food was fantastic impressing our friends, the services brilliant, a great night out.

We visited Wok Ever Palace for the first time and we were not disappointed - friendly service and delicious food! I called to book and the guy on the phone was great - I told him my allergies and that we are vegan and asked if they could accommodate, to which he said they would (and they did). There is a vegan menu - they need to add sides as the salt and pepper chips are vegan and they were amazing! We had mixed vegetables with vermicelli, mock chicken with vermicelli and some salt and pepper tofu (starter as a side). The food was fresh and tasty! If you have severe allergies, they make it clear that there could be contamination, but everything is cleaned. We will definitely be back! They just need to add some vegan dessert to the menu ;)

Delicious food at very fast service. Our starter came in 5 minutes after we ordered it and once we finished, our main came not long after. I loved the atmosphere and the waiters were very polite. Will definitely be coming back.

It's okay. Food was okay. Service was okay. I've had better and was expecting better as the place looks upmarket from outside. Wouldn't really rush back as it just wasn't particularly enjoyable but I can't say there was anything negative about our visit. Instantly forgettable.

Very attentive staff. Fast service. Not much time to breathe between courses. Food delicious and reasonably priced. Ordered a large glass of wine....it wasn't that large when arrived but my goodness the bill for it was. Would like to return but with drink costing almost as much as the food, I need to think twice.

Very good place. I went there for the first time last Wednesday. The first thing I noticed was how busy it was for midweek. I overheard the manager talking to several customers and it was obvious that they were regulars. I had chilli ribs for starters - very nice; then kung po chicken for main. Again, very nice, and it explains why it's so busy and why customers return regularly. I'll be back.

Booked a table here for my partners 30th birthday. When we arrived there was a birthday banner above our table which was a lovely touch. The service was exceptional and staff were very friendly. The food was beautiful and had good choices on the menu. I really recommend this place for a birthday meal. The manager of the restaurant even cut up the birthday cake for us and served it to us. I will definitely be going back again , the best service I've ever had in a restaurant 🌟

Just ordered a takeaway the food came in plastic boxes so could not keep the food warm without decanting it. The meat in every dish was so dried up it was impossible to chew it. 85% of this food went into the recycling bin. I do not recommend this restaurant

Well cooked food at fair prices in a nice environment

First time we have visited this restaurant and won't be the last. The first thing you notice is the excellent service. Attentive but not over the top. The food was excellent and very tasty. Big enough portions to fill you. Well worth a visit.

Great surroundings. Really organised and attentive staff. Food came out swiftly. For me the important part was they had a separate vegan menu. I wish I'd taken photos to show .but we enjoyed a sweet and sour mock chicken and a mapo tofu hot pot. They were DELICIOUS.

Food was nice but not enough selection on the Sunday deal that i personally could eat. So I only could have 1 main meal and the starter I picked I wasn't meant to have but the others i didn't like . So for that I reason i couldn't go regularly as I would easily get bored.

Food was beautiful, service was lovely by a young lady.the young man with her was busy doing nothing and the young lady did everything .

We called in early on a Saturday evening and were fortunate to get a spare table. The menu is extensive with probably too much choice. We shared starters of chicken wings in Thai chilli sauce and salt and pepper king prawn. The chicken wings had plenty of meat and the sauce was spicy. The prawns were cooked to perfection but the spice level was lower than usual for this dish. For main course my wife ordered the sizzling chicken with ginger and onions. Because the sauce was gloopy the sizzling didn’t really take effect and the dish was a bit bland. I had the beef in Sichuan sauce - tender beef with a mixture of crispy vegetables in a moderately spiced sauce. Total bill including rice, prawn crackers and a drink apiece was £55 Overall we enjoyed the starters more than the mains.

Been to wok ever a few times for a eat in but this time a take away. What a feast for me an our lass. Beef satay for me and sweet and sour chicken for wife. Incredible food highly recommend this place. Many thanks to all staff and see you all soon

If I could give more than 5 stars I would! My family and I visited this evening for my son in laws birthday,from the minute we arrived we were given such a warm welcome,not only by the amazing staff but also who I assume is the owner. The restaurant is beautiful and very clean,my grandchildren particularly liked all the artistry hanging from the ceilings. The service was fantastic! Nothing was too much trouble. We placed a very large order and I was surprised at how fast the food was served and it was beautiful! Cooked to perfection and very tasty, the only negative is that its only my first time here but it will most definitely not be my last,fantastic place with fantastic service! I have already told several friends:) ps the latte was devine;)

Very much overpriced, no resemblance to an authentic Chinese experience. Had to ask for chopsticks and in my experience Chinese food is eaten from bowls not plates. Very disappointing.

My fave Chinese! Always order from here and never had a bad experience. My favourite is the chicken chow mein with added mushrooms and king prawns

Terrible cheap prawn toast. Absolutely the worst crispy duck I have ever had the misfortune to taste. Bill was £40 quid. £20 straight in the bin. The rest low grade produce nibbled at then binned. Don’t waste your money. Just poor poor poor.

A family night out to celebrate my wifes birthday, what a great night, brilliantly organised by the owner, Ming. Fantastic Chinese food and just the best service, highly recommended.

First time we have visited and won't be the last. The food was lovely and service very efficient and friendly. We were the only ones there for 45 minutes so a little quiet but we didn't mind.

Poor quality food very overpriced the starter platter for 2 is laughable for £17 and the overall vibe of the place was just weird won’t be returning

Really really basic food for extortionate prices! Stale and cooked in ready made sauces! We had such high hopes! Travelled far hoping for authentic Chinese experience but bitterly disappointed unfortunately. Everything looked and tasted the same - overly sweet! Takeaway Chinese is better! Cutlery not even properly clean 😒. Didn't use the knife, even after requesting the first one to be changed, because both had traces of last curry, wiped off but not properly! Parking really difficult to find. 3 Stars because staff was nice and attentive.

very good service. quick and efficient me and my friends got the banquet b which is starter duck and main course ate every last bit of it good sized portions too. The best chinese i’ve ever tried i will be returning!
