Food was ok, nothing special, they did mention they were out of some of the fresh meat and you request this before coming to hold some back. The duck course was pretty dry and generally average. The mains were ok but again no better than a normal Chinese takeaway but slightly more pricey

We visited early evening on a Tuesday night. It’s a nice family run and owned business. The service was friendly and excellent. We ordered some honey roast pork on boiled rice, ho fun noodles with beef in black bean sauce and some crispy salt and chilli squid. All the dishes were superb. What a find. Highly recommend and we will be back in a heart beat. Well done Wings.

Was passing through Southend and decided to have an evening meal at Wings. It is an old style Chinese restaurant of the type I prefer, no tatty flash. Surprised to find that the food was surprisingly good. Hong Kong style. Very friendly waiter. I recommend this one.

An intimate, family-run restaurant cooking the kind of food that would easily cost you a third or even double more in Londons' Chinatown. Their Peking roast duck and Char siu pork, freshly made on the day, is frankly top tier. Succulent as it gets. And their salt and chilli King Prawns are plump, juicy, tender as you like and crisp as anything - not the bullets we've come to expect in many other establishments. Not oily at all! I came on a semi-busy Sunday afternoon and cannot fault the atmosphere, service from a lovely young lady who had impeccable manners, and the food itself. I've eaten here twice now and am astonished. It's a small yet cosy dining room (good family atmosphere) and an even smaller kitchen with minimal yet obviously skillful kitchen staff, who are clearly putting pure love into doing UK Chinese the right way. When I asked if I could take a few photos of the kitchen they did not hesitate to oblige me. Far cleaner and tidier (spotless in fact) than all those franchise eateries and soulless pubs and bars in the area. A final note from a very satisfied customer: It all comes down to seasoning and My Goodness were those salt and chilli King Prawns well seasoned. Flavour explosion all round. 10/10. Best in Essex

I mostly visit lunchtime from the lunchtime menu, at least once or twice a month. Really lovely hot food, clean and tidy and popular restaurant with lovely helpful staff. Soup yummy and hot. I usually eat sweet and sour pork or shrimp chop suey. All hot as usual. Lovely hot cup of tea to finish. Staff lovely too. Well done as usual!! Was with hubby today, but sometimes girl friends (well old girls as we 70). Cannot understand any bad comments, must have a problem of their own! I have seen some really lovely food being served up too off the main menu. Must give it a go one day.

We’ve gotten Chinese from wings a few times in the past and never had any issues. Food has always been good, but however today our food was delivered and one of the items was wrong. I phoned up straight away and spoke to the owner who said the item would be sent straight out. 50 minutes later the item was delivered but we had already finished our dinner. The prawn balls were also saturated in oil and it was dripping out the bag when arrived so unfortunately went in the bin. Disappointing but mistakes do happen.

Southend is a strange and frustrating resort. It's big but there is very little here apart from national retail and restaurant chains, fine if you're happy to eat in McDonalds, or if feeling adventurous, Pizza Express. Two other Chinese restaurants I researched online before my holiday turned out to be no longer in business. So I was especially grateful this one is still going. Excellent Chicken Chow Mein, and bottle Tsingtao lager £15.50. A nice little detail is the Soy sauce bottles are on the tables: in most places you have to ask.

York Road is not the most desirable locations, it has to be said, so I can imagine that putting some people off. However, I would urge them to visit Wings if they like good Chinese food! We found ourselves a rare Friday with our son but not the dog. My husband has, for years, looked longingly at the ducks hanging in the window, and having tried to visit the mexican in Southchurch Avenue, who were fully booked, I said 'Lets try Wings!' We were not disappointed. First thing to note is they are cash only. Now there is a cash point just over the road at Marks and Spencers, but the area is risky. My husband and son supervised my cashpoint trip! We had a platter with ribs, spring rolls, satay chicken , sesame prawn toast and seaweed. We had crispy duck pancakes, 3 meat roast, a King Prawn Chow Mein and some mixed vegetables. It was more than enough for us (and my boys are hungry boys) we also had a couple of Coca Colas and Beers between us too. It was a great meal- this place really is a hidden gem! Will return when I have a baby sitter for the hound again!

The starters and mains we’re delicious but the dessert was very average, I’d pass on that. Very expensive (even for a Chinese), it cost £26 for some fried pork and rice! Overall a shared starter, main, dessert and 2 bottles of beer for me cost £48.50. The service was average as well, didn’t get asked how the food was and had to catch his eye just to get a dessert menu. He didn’t bring back our change either. It’s very tasty but I can get slightly lesser quality food at a Chinese for a lot cheaper. I won’t be going back any time soon unfortunately.

A very basic restaurant and comparing it to my home town twice the price, however I have not compared it to similar restaurants so assume normal for the area. All said we both had the chicken with spring onion and ginger, one with a portion of special fried rice the other with chicken fried rice. One pint of cola and a small beer, approx £55. After that I can say the food and service was excellent, extreemly tasty and clearly fresh ingredients. Not in the most attractive area but would certainly recommend. Also opposite a large car park so ideal for an evening meal if your driving.

Went here basically because they served lunch. Didn't know what to expect. We went for the £10.50 set lunch. Started with chicken sweetcorn soup. Really tasty and just the right size portion. Also piping hot which I think food should be. There is then a large selection of dishes with rice. I had beef and black bean sauce and my friend had chicken and mushroom. Came on a decent size plate with good portions of the meat. Again, very tasty and piping hot. Finished with a tea and a coffee. Staff were lovely, food was delicious, no 10% automatic added tip which we put on through choice, and all for £10.50. Absolutely will be going again. Only downfall cash only, luckily we had cash on us although it does say so in the window and inside, it is not sprung on you when you go to pay.

It's probably been at least 10 years or so since last eating here. Anyways, came in for lunch with family today; ordered myself Honey Roast Pork with Boiled Rice. Food still tastes as great as I remember, and the waiter was very friendly and welcoming too. However it's 4 stars from me as my two sisters had duck, which they struggled with a bit, as it had quite a lot of bone in it (so be prepared if you order any duck dish); and also the decor could do with a bit of modernisation. Overall, it's good and honest food here, and still one to recommend.

My husband and I came for dinner, order fillet steak, portion of roast duck and tung choi with plain boiled rice (2 lots). The total bill came to £58 without service, the rice alone cost £14.70. The main dishes was perfectly cooked. The first lot of rice we got all the scrapings of the bottom of the rice cooker. The texture of rice was strange, it was dry and crumbly with the bottom scrappings congee like. Having grown up in a Chinese take away environment and eaten my fair share of boiled rice as a 40 something year old I've never eaten rice like this before. Had I known rice was going to be charged for 3 portions at the price of £14.70 I'd have had it returned for a new lot. It's our own fault for being so hungry and eating it straight away but the wait was a little longer than we'd anticipated as we had to wait for service and then it took a while for the food to arrive. £58 without service rival's London Westend prices at £62 including service.

Save your money order else where.i must first state I am a trained chef of over 30 yrs , trained in European food styles. We ordered 2 soups and 2 mains. The noodle soups were both awful.bland Stock was used, no seasoning Was used the soup was served in 2 tubs my noodles were bland and the pork and duck vert tough.2 very small pieces of pac choi.the second tub contained,as all I can describe very bland hot water with some flavour, of what I don't know.my special chop suey was awful. Meat bland and tough 1 and abit prawns. beef was rubbery and inedible my partners prawn dumplings in her soup were bland awful and sickly.kung po prawns were in a sauce so sweet and not nice to eat so were binned. Even prawn crackers were below average.all this came to £39.50 for 4 bad dishes. Wings is supposed to be high end chinese, far from it .I have eaten and cooked Asian food all over the world in my time.next to one venue overseas this has got to have been the 2nd worse. Others say its gone down hill.to be honest I don't see how it was ever on top of the hill. Second time ordering from here, first time was pretty good so thought would order from here again and what a disappointment. Waited for over an hour which I wouldn’t mind if the food was decent and hot but it absolutely was not. It was cold and gross, even the prawn crackers tasted stale. Also when calling up to complain they seemed annoyed with me and made out like I’m a liar. Very rude, rubbish food and will not be ordering from there again

Great Chinese, staff super friendly, service very quick, they were busy but didn't rush us in any way. First time going I'll be going back.
