Went here basically because they served lunch. Didn't know what to expect. We went for the £10.50 set lunch. Started with chicken sweetcorn soup. Really tasty and just the right size portion. Also piping hot which I think food should be. There is then a large selection of dishes with rice. I had beef and black bean sauce and my friend had chicken and mushroom. Came on a decent size plate with good portions of the meat. Again, very tasty and piping hot. Finished with a tea and a coffee. Staff were lovely, food was delicious, no 10% automatic added tip which we put on through choice, and all for £10.50. Absolutely will be going again. Only downfall cash only, luckily we had cash on us although it does say so in the window and inside, it is not sprung on you when you go to pay.

Great stir fries and quirky Chinese dishes. Love their pork stir fry and brocoli and asparagus greens. Always consistently good. Sesame toast is Nirvana. Service quirky but kind. My go to place. They deliver too.

Possibly the worst Chinese I’ve eaten. First the incorrect order was delivered. Curry sauce is like tasteless water. NONE of the food had any flavour and the prawn crackers are stale. I’m also shocked that i was given French fries rather than chips. Never again, do not waste your money or time.

Food was amazing, authentic Chinese food. Food was hot and although decor is basic the food is amazing. Couldn’t fault it, will definitely be a regular for the lunchtime menu. Have had takeout many, many times and as always 100%.

Haven't been here for around 5 years i always remember there food being really good and good value for money with their lunch time offer. You would easily walk past this place without noticing given its location, a true hidden gem! Place was packed out which i had to wait around 20 minutes to be seated which i did not mind having looked at food being served it was well worth wait. When me and my mate were seated we ordered various dishes and they were all fantastic! By far one of the best Chinese retreatants in Southend! You know this place is good when local Chinese people are also eating here. A must try if you love Chinese food.

Just proper decent Chinese, both a "western menu" and orthentic menu, hence always Chinese people eating in there also.

Fantastic! Best Chinese My wife and I had in a while. The food was fresh and hot. I loved how crispy the spicy shredded beef was. Will love to go there again and try more of there menu.

First time order really good food I had chicken curry and special fried rice my son had beef curry and special fried rice chichen balls and bbq Spain ribs my only thing I wish was better is the sweet n sour sauce could of been a bit thicker but yum yumwill be going back

I mostly visit lunchtime from the lunchtime menu, at least once or twice a month. Really lovely hot food, clean and tidy and popular restaurant with lovely helpful staff. Soup yummy. I usually eat sweet and sour pork. Went for a change today shrimp chop suey. Wow was that good moist and tasty too. I need to keep experimenting. Lovely cup of tea to finish. Well done as usual!!

Great duck, fast friendly service. It's great to see a friendly face from the past returning to help out! The whole experience could be so much better if the owners invested a little more into the restaurant. Toilets are dismal.

A shared dining table at the back. Watching sizzling ducks fly by on porcelain plates accompanied by rice and noodles. A set menu for £9,50 which satisfied your Chinesey palate. Clean. Kind. 😌 🤗 I spend far too much time here but it's addictive. Use the hot chilli sauce. 🌶 Cash only.

We used wings at lot in the past but there prices have gone through the roof, I think there making the most of being the only chinese opening early. I was astonish last night how expensive it's become, we're giving it a miss from now on. Other chinese are much cheaper.

Authentic Hong Kong Styled dishes. I ordered a plate of chicken fried rice. Its without adding any soy source that we used to like it that way in Hong Kong and its not easy to find one in takeaway shop. Their beef also tasted good. Staffs are friendly. Would come back to try more. They have salty fish and chicken pieces fried rice 咸魚雞粒炒飯!!! A famous dish in Hong Kong that I wanted to try too.

It's probably been at least 10 years or so since last eating here. Anyways, came in for lunch with family today; ordered myself Honey Roast Pork with Boiled Rice. Food still tastes as great as I remember, and the waiter was very friendly and welcoming too. However it's 4 stars from me as my two sisters had duck, which they struggled with a bit, as it had quite a lot of bone in it (so be prepared if you order any duck dish); and also the decor could do with a bit of modernisation. Overall, it's good and honest food here, and still one to recommend.

Avoid the separate "tourist" menu. We were overcharged compared to the menu outside and the same menu given to others in the restaurant. Chow mein was stale, duck dish just had duck skin. Egg fried rice was pretty much missing the egg. Starters were ok but again when you factor we were charged £17 but other menu said it should be £13. Cash only. Just avoid.

First time eating here and food was good! Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Only reason I can’t give 5 star is it’s expensive and they don’t take card in 2023? Which is annoying to say the least. They also need to improve the old fashioned 80s music too! Would be much better to hear Chinese music or even more modern pop but songs were awful. I’ll come back for the food not the ‘vibe’

Nice staff, very welcoming and above all delicious food.

My husband and I came for dinner, order fillet steak, portion of roast duck and tung choi with plain boiled rice (2 lots). The total bill came to £58 without service, the rice alone cost £14.70. The main dishes was perfectly cooked. The first lot of rice we got all the scrapings of the bottom of the rice cooker. The texture of rice was strange, it was dry and crumbly with the bottom scrappings congee like. Having grown up in a Chinese take away environment and eaten my fair share of boiled rice as a 40 something year old I've never eaten rice like this before. Had I known rice was going to be charged for 3 portions at the price of £14.70 I'd have had it returned for a new lot. It's our own fault for being so hungry and eating it straight away but the wait was a little longer than we'd anticipated as we had to wait for service and then it took a while for the food to arrive. £58 without service rival's London Westend prices at £62 including service.

It’s not about the price, it’s how you treat your returning customers. Ordered one portion of crispy pork today for takeaway, and was shocked how tiny the portion was compared to the previous orders and i was served by the “boss”. Their food is over priced and I don’t think i will go back again.

We normally use another takeaway but they happened to be closed so upon reading positive ratings we thought we would give here a go and were quite impressed. Fast delivery, and tasty food. Easy to use online ordering. Food was hot. Will certainly use again and would recommend

Good food but very expensive compared to others in the area. I used to eat at Wings regularly, but it seems to be under new ownership. They were heating alot of dishes in a microwave, it was pinging every 5 minutes. Very bad for fast cooked expensive Chinese. It's a shame but I will never go back again. £38.00 for lunch for one person. Shocking!

4 of us enjoyed a lovely leisurely lunchtime set meal. Couldn't fault it. Wasn't rushed. I always enjoy a meal there and my friends who hadn't been therefore had to agree. Very good value meal. Always hot. Their Chinese chicken and sweetcorn soup is the best too

Excellent quality and generous portions. There was one person from Hong Kong and one from Beijing in my party, and they were impressed too - better than [London] Chinatown, one commented. Cash only, though.

Lovely little find down York road ! Lunch time menu is between 12 &3 so much to choose from that's for sure ..comes with chicken and sweetcorn soup and I opted for satay chicken and rice ...food was fast fresh and full of flavour and fantastic value at £8:50

I had the same order (via just eat) as previously when it was delicious. This time it had got cold on the way and so not as enjoyable. I really wish I had not got takeaway tonight!!

I personally think this the best Chinese in Southend with an amazing special menu with all the traditional dishes! Also the best salt and chilli squid!

We have used this chinese for many years and the food has Allways been excellent, we went there today, my Wife and me and ordered our usual dishes, and to be honest, even though we haven't been there since the pandemic, it was disappointing on several fronts, firstly, one of our main dishes didn't turn up untill the end of the meal, the service was sloppy and when I got the bill I was totally shocked, £70 for Char Sui Pork, Crispy belly pork, 1 boiled rice, salt and chilli ribs, and, water for it, £11 for a portion of stir fried Broccoli, Sorry Guys, But Never Again.

We visit Southend often. The Wings was one of my favourite Chinese restaurants years ago. Now still they cook nice food but levels behind the previous owner. The duck was more fat and bones.

Save your money order else where.i must first state I am a trained chef of over 30 yrs , trained in European food styles. We ordered 2 soups and 2 mains. The noodle soups were both awful.bland Stock was used, no seasoning Was used the soup was served in 2 tubs my noodles were bland and the pork and duck vert tough.2 very small pieces of pac choi.the second tub contained,as all I can describe very bland hot water with some flavour, of what I don't know.my special chop suey was awful. Meat bland and tough 1 and abit prawns. beef was rubbery and inedible my partners prawn dumplings in her soup were bland awful and sickly.kung po prawns were in a sauce so sweet and not nice to eat so were binned. Even prawn crackers were below average.all this came to £39.50 for 4 bad dishes. Wings is supposed to be high end chinese, far from it .I have eaten and cooked Asian food all over the world in my time.next to one venue overseas this has got to have been the 2nd worse. Others say its gone down hill.to be honest I don't see how it was ever on top of the hill. So Quality 0 out of 10 Ingredients 0 out of 10 Flavour 0 out of ten Value -20 out of ten Sadly it has fallen in all departments. Eat else where better for cheaper.....

Been going here ever since I can remember and they never disappoint! Went for lunch for my sister's birthday and it was delicious and piping hot as usual. Not to mention amazing value as we ordered from their lunch menu. Staff are always friendly and accommodating. 10/10 would recommend 👌

Very disappointed and they have lost the plot. Value for money and good cooking is what we ask for. Plenty of choice in town so unless things prove I won't be returning to a previously favourite venue .

Good food but getting a little expensive as there is a lack of similar Soho style Chinese restaurants nearby. Beware it is Cash only.

Love this place! Mussel in back bean and chilli sauce and crab in ginger and spring onion.... can't beat it!

What a nice little find, you know it's going to be good when the place has roasted duck, roasted pork & crispy pork hanging from the window (sorry vegetarians but that's the only way i can describe it). we didn't know what to eat and not familiar with southend restaurants, we could have easily gone to a kebab, fish and chip shop, or grabbed a burger from one of the stalls, but i jumped on google and this place popped up. didn't read the reviews just saw that someone posted photos and if there's food which looks proper then we will be there. was given the menu and looking through it was a nice surprise, they had dishes which you dont tend to see which is always nice, we ordered the braised beef with rice and won ton noodle soup and grilled dumplings, food arrived and was good, cant fault it as all, the owners were pleasant and the food came out quick. if you manage to come across this place, hopefully you enjoy it as much as we did. highly recommend if you fancy chinese in southend.

Food very tasty,but soft drinks were flat. A bit pricey but mainly due to the sides,rice,chowmein etc priced as mains,a large portion but not needed when ordered as a side.ok if you're all happy to share the same dish.will know next time.

We have been going to Wings for years and years,and the food was good. However since lockdown, the portions are smaller,and ingredients used not as good. Anyway been over a dozen times since June and thats it now, Oh and the complimentary Chinese tea they now charge for, but didn't warn when offered tea and just added to bill, David thought this was funny adding another £2.to bill - loads of other people who have said the same.

Delicious meal - crispy roasted duck, lemon chicken and chow mein especially. Great friendly service, too.

Food tasted wonderful! Especially banana fritters! Excellent value for money. So popular that the waiting staff were a bit overwhelmed to begin with but got into their stride later.

We went in expecting the wonderful lunch meal, however that isn't available as yet, so we chose from the main menu and although was obviously more expensive didn't disappoint us at all The food was hot and tasty. I do hope the lunchtime menu returns, but if not we will still visit from time to time. Was quiet when we arrived, but soon filled up. Many Chinese people too, which is always a very good sign I feel. I cannot understand the bad reviews on here at all, doesn't make sense. If you go for a meal at 9pm or after, can you really expect to be able to have a big choice of dishes, staff need to clear up and go home.

Fresh excellent food - better than most similar places, and we enjoyed every dish. Not entirely inexpensive, and the restaurant was nothing fancy, but great service and food. Very nice evening.

Well have been going to Wings for years,and the food is good. However since lockdown, they have stopped the lunch menu,and now do just A la Carte.Thats fine,but the portions are small,and they have put the prices up.In these times,not good. Anyway been three times and thats it now,not value for money at all. Was also speaking to other people who have said the same.😗😗😗

Got to say this is by far the best chinese take away we have ever tasted We will never order from.any one else again.

After plenty of good reviews I was some what disappointed. Delivery time was spot on, food was piping hot and great portions. I always ask for my crispy beer with minimal sauce so you get the crispy factor but wasn’t listened to and was swimming in sauce making it just soggy beef. My ribs and chicken balls were like they had been cooked twice, once in prep and then just deep fried to heat up and serve us. The rice and chow Mein was good but very hard to get a bad one. Satay chicken was incredible my good just need to put a little more attention to detail in from my personal opinion.

We've been looking for ages for a Chinese that's open lunch times. Then we found Wings. Was a bit worried as it's not in a great place but I tell you its was lovely and a good price, will defo order again.

I come to this restaurant for lunch at least every 2 months. Usually with my sister or sometimes a friend or my husband. The Manager always recognises me and what we want and is very accommodating. We have been coming here for about 8yrs I reckon. Lunch is very reasonable and hot and good quality. There are always plenty of Chinese people eating there, which is a good sign indeed that the restaurant is good.

Wings have their set menu for lunch back now. Also corona safe booths. The food is as delicious as ever. Hooray for some normality back in town.

Best real Chinese food in Southend

As you can see from my previous review in 2015 this used to be the best chinese restaurant for miles even better than any restaurants in London's China town.But sadly not any more under the new owners I ordered Singapore Noodles that used to be my favourite buy I don't think they were even shown to the Wok at all as they were wet and soggy and tasteless with just some meat and veg thrown in.So sad

We have been eating at Wings regularly for over 10 years, and always really enjoyed the food. During lockdown we had a few takeaways from Wings, and more recently we’ve eaten in a few times. I honestly think the food is the best it’s been, it is superb. The service, as always is really really good too. I would highly recommend.

This was the best by far. Looking at places to eat in now (July 2020) and see that Wings is still near the top. Unfortunately it is not a patch on previous owners. I went there a year ago and it was really bland. Pretty dull and minimal taste. Would not return again. Its quite cheap but lack luster. The old Wings was pretty perfect. Shame.

We had large £140 order for a family occasion and gave them a time to collect, the food was all ready on time, all hot by the time we got home and everyone commented to say it was the best and very tasty, thank you

Been going here for years, new owners have finally got the food back to what it used to taste like but they have reduced amount of meat and rice you get in the lunch deal hence only 4 and not 5 stars.

First visit for a few years, since the old owners sold the business. So we were interested to see if it was still good.We had a great lunch here. Between 12 and 3 the set menu is cheap and tasty. The Duck is still first class. The service is fast and the place is popular with Chinese people which is always a good sign.Cash only, good food, good service in this cafe like chinese eaterie.Well worth a visit and great quality food.
