Quite a good meal. Only I asked for large rice. One regular portion isn't great for 4 people

We have never ordered from the Famous Chef before and I have a severe allergy to garlic. The owner was incredibly helpful in terms of guiding us through the menu and even made several changes to dishes we like in order that we could enjoy them, allergen free. They took the time to work through ingredients lists for us and gave us the impression that they wanted to cook us a meal we would enjoy. And we did :-) Thanks again, we would definitely recommend your thoughtfulness and chilli noodles :-). K&A.

Used them several times. Prompt delivery by phoning direct. think it was free. very tasty and hot food. Soup and three dishes enough for two meals.

First time ordering, had high hopes when it was delivered 15 minutes early - really disappointed. All of the food was bland, the ‘satay’ chicken had no satay sauce on it at all (basically just cooked plain chicken on a stick), no sweet & sour sauce for the chicken balls (which were 80% batter with a tiny piece of chicken inside), the curry sauce didn’t taste of anything at all, ribs were ok, prawn toast was just oily, egg fried rice was over cooked. Definitely not going back here again, £33 down the drain.

My first time of ordering from here was very good food ordered a good variety of dishes that all came out very fresh and nicely cooked. Price was spot on very reasonable lots cheaper than my usual chinese take away. Worth a try. I will use again 100%

Reasonable delivery time. Well spiced and flavourful. Nothing overly greasy, nothing worse than a chicken ball dripping in grease. Chilli beef with seperate sauce meant it was super crunchy and lovely. Kung po chicken spicy with a nice kick. Chicken chow mein flavourful and not too greasy. Nicest Chinese takeout I've had in a while. Prawn crackers were a little odd tasting. Will be ordering again for sure.

Possibly worst Chinese I've ever had the prawn crackers smelt and tasted like melted plastic. The chow mein was greasy and too spicy. I could eat a bit of the meat and noodles but the beef with bambooshoots and water chestnuts was inedible. The meat was like eating rubber and the sauce tasted like boiled socks. I was so disappointed definitely would not recommend I'm surprised they get such high ratings. Don't waste your money like I did.

Absolutly love this take away. Myself and my husband moved to Eastwood 4 years ago, this was near our previous property which is how we came across it. We have had chinese take aways from lots of different areas due to living in different areas beforehand or staying with friends and this is our all time favourite. This is not our closet to us now we have moved but we still order from here. Can't fault the food or the staff. They are always very polite and accommodating. Thank you!

Something not quite right here. The main course, sizzling mixed meats (i chose chilli black bean sauce with it) was tasteless. No chillies, only two thin slices of green pepper. Portion small but adequate for me after my oysters starter. A bowl of rice is £5-£6, too expensive. Wine at £7 a glass is also too expensive and i cant drink a whole £28/£35 bottle alone. No music, so poor atmosphere, listening to four men on an adjacent table for two hours. I don't like the compulsory 10% tip added to the bill which was £60 for one person. Expensive.

An intimate, family-run restaurant cooking the kind of food that would easily cost you a third or even double more in Londons' Chinatown. Their Peking roast duck and Char siu pork, freshly made on the day, is frankly top tier. Succulent as it gets. And their salt and chilli King Prawns are plump, juicy, tender as you like and crisp as anything - not the bullets we've come to expect in many other establishments. Not oily at all! I came on a semi-busy Sunday afternoon and cannot fault the atmosphere, service from a lovely young lady who had impeccable manners, and the food itself. I've eaten here twice now and am astonished. It's a small yet cosy dining room (good family atmosphere) and an even smaller kitchen with minimal yet obviously skillful kitchen staff, who are clearly putting pure love into doing UK Chinese the right way. When I asked if I could take a few photos of the kitchen they did not hesitate to oblige me. Far cleaner and tidier (spotless in fact) than all those franchise eateries and soulless pubs and bars in the area. A final note from a very satisfied customer: It all comes down to seasoning and My Goodness were those salt and chilli King Prawns well seasoned. Flavour explosion all round. 10/10. Best in Essex

Best Chinese Takeaway in Southend City and beyond. They are retiring soon now and will be greatly missed.
