Lovely atmosphere, great veriety of food, and staff are friendly.

Excellent, I can't recommend enough. In fact, we regularly travel from Romford just to eat at Mr Tang!

Another excellent experience at Mr Tang. Food was delicious and plentiful and Mary and her team are outstanding hosts. Looking forward to my next visit.

Food was nice. But the service was very bad We had to wait far too long for the different courses to come up. Won't be going there again

Been going here for 5yrs.not been for a few months.last visit 2 weeks ago.great welcome as always.but unfortunately was not impressed on this visit.had set meal for two,starter was ok but smaller than before and the other dishes realy were portioned for one person.had two small sort drinks each the bill was almost £80 plus leaving a tip.sorry to the lovely owner and great staff but too expensive for the average person for what was served

Absolutely no words! First time to try it, but we will definitely come back. The food was amazing, large portions, nicely prepared. Very friendly staff and even if the place looks a bit outdated, I was impressed how clean it was.

Great food and would say prices are ok but we've been put off by £11 service charge I do not agree to and I believe is an absolute rip-off.

Absolutely awful! Read the reviews and thought we would give this restuarant a try as someone on google said the portion sizes were big and affordable. Service was awful.. Kept getting an excuse saying Mary is not here shes ill.. Whos Mary...couldnt care less who Mary is. We waited over an hour for our food to get on the table and when it did finally come...it was all brought out at a snails pace..so the food at the start was cold..portion sizes were not worth the money they were charging...and then when it came to the bill they wanted to add a service charge.... which we refused to pay...why would you pay if the service wasnt there. Absolutely avoid dont be fooled by the reviews on here! Would have been better off geting a takeaway delivered from around the corner to us.

What a fabulous evening for my mums 80th birthday. Food was delicious , staff excellent, very accommodating and attentive. 15 of us with a packed restaurant of other diners and they couldn’t have done anymore. Thank you Mr Tangs

Mr Tang is something of an institution in these parts, having been in its current premises for over 30 years. Since we had tried the takeaway from here and always enjoyed the food, it was high time we sampled the restaurant itself, and we were not disappointed. Every dish we ordered was served promptly, generously portioned and pleasingly presented. The highlight was definitely the scallops, if you like shellfish and you don’t order these, you’re missing out! This is a family run establishment and the staff are lovely. Yes the dining area looks a little dated but that just adds to its charm and it’s spotlessly clean. If you’re local to Rayleigh and haven’t popped in, what are you waiting for? Highly recommended

Worst chinese ive ever had,went there to get a takeaway,restaurant looks like its back in the 70's! Food came out within 2 mins of me making my order,chicken was rubber and tasted distgusting,sweet sour sauce was watery,just overall,worst chinese ever had,will never step foot in there again!!!!!

I am not a regular visitor of Chinese restaurants so I can’t say for sure where Mr Tangs stands in quality of dishes. BUT, what I can say is the service is excellent, all of the food we ordered was piping hot and tasted lovely. We will definitely be returning.

This place does not deliver, good job because I would of asked them to come back and collet it !!! absolutely shocking !!! Needed the kids arm bands to swim through the grease - we tried it and it’s definitely a no Who likes dry crispy duck ? I don’t do reviews but people need to know - absolutely horrific !!

Delicious food let down by chaotic service and expensive drinks, a pint of tiger beer is 9 pounds! And carlsberg 5.40! I would also recommend they scrap the 10% service charge and let people tip what they feel comfortable with themselfs as our charge would of ment an extra 60 pounds on the bill witch was unacceptable especially as families are feeling the pinch with high inflation. Nice polite people and good atmosphere, they did resolve my concerns without any problem.

Friendly helpful staff. Made vegetarian dishes requested on the night. Parking outside a bit tricky, but you can park (free) across the road.

Moved in nearby a year ago but due to covid had never been able to try. Accommodated us late at night and food was exceptional. Freshest best tasting Chinese we have had in years and will definitely be returning regularly

We have been coming to this restaurant for 30 years and can easily say that we have never had a bad meal. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. On this visit we had the sweet and sour chicken which was lovely and the salt and chilli squid which is fresh and light. We will be back soon.

First visit to this Chinese. Good service, attentive staff, fine fresh cooked food. Will definitely return. One thing of note is we thought it a little bit pricey.

We had a table booked and our friends were stuck in traffic coming from London. We called to advice we were going to be late and they assured us all was ok, however upon arrival we were informed that there were no hygiene facilities, ie toilets or (worse still) running water to wash ones hands, or wash up or (worse still) for the chef to wash his hands after handling food stuffs like RAW chicken, prawns, pork!!!!!!!!!

This is a restaurant that is close to home, yet rarely visited because our eldest son is disabled and the tables always appeared through the window to be too close together for it to be wheelchair friendly. That said, we decided on a whim to head out for a family meal last week and we weren't disappointed. The attentive staff moved chairs out of the way to accommodate our wheelchair and then continued with their friendly and warm service throughout the meal. As far as the food was concerned, it was all excellent - the dumplings were amongst the best we have had, the ribs were huge, tender and tasty and the aromatic lamb in lettuce leaves were amazing. The main courses were also really tasty and plentiful. We look forward to visiting again soon!

Wonderful evening spent at Mr Tang’s the food was divine. The scallops were done to perfection. Then we had the set menu. every dish was extremely delicious, so much food, and all enjoyably tasty.The service from Mary, Kelly and the team behind the scenes doing all the cooking in this family run business was superb. Couldn't fault the service but it was early 18.00 hrs so we were the only people there. Food freshly cooked for the reasons stated above. Food was not oily my Singapore noodles lacked seasoning but that could be down to my palate although I do not think so

Just moved to the area and thought we'd try the local Chinese. Had a very warm welcome from whom we found out later was the owner. The restaurant was busy and everyone working was professional and attentive. The food was excellent and at a reasonable price. I highly recommend a visit or takeaway

The staff are great and the food even better. Instead of the duck have the lamb with lettuce or have them both as we do. It’s always enjoyable and you don’t get that horrid bloated feeling you get in other chinese restaurants. We ordered the whole lobster in advance and they cooked it to perfection. The toffee banana finishes it off nicely.

My husband and I enjoyed 3 course on a Friday evening. The ribs were beautifully cooked and fell of the bone! The smocked chilli chicken was beautiful. The duck was delicious and an extremely large portion. We managed to eat half of the rice, chicken and beef dish we ordered which were all very pleasant. Too full to finish, we we’re given the rest to take home. All in all a very enjoyable meal.

Really disappointed with this place, came here based on good reviews. The food was ok/good, the service really let itself down. It took too long to bring the food out, and we waited 45mins for our bill even after asking for it 3 times. They eventually sent someone over with it who just kept giggling and saying we so busy tonight. I was not impressed It also cost us £40 a head for a two course meal with soft drinks Will not be returning

Introduced to Mr Tangs a couple of years ago, it's our friends local chinese. We've been a fan since our first visit. Great food. The difference is that Mr Tangs food is consistently good, never had a poor dish yet, we are working our way through the menu, so much to choose from, my mouth is watering just talking about their food, the deep fried oysters are to die for as is the crispy pork, i could go on but i'll only get boring. On very rare occasions we've had to wait a tad to long between courses but that's the price you pay when you frequent a very popular restaurant but also a small price to pay for excellence. All in all one of the best places we have been to, Mary looks after you superbly as do the rest of the staff, looking forward to our next visit. If you like chinese food you must give it a try...

Booked Mr Tang for my husbands 50th Family birthday meal. What a disappointment. We arrived at 7.30, 9 of us to enjoy and celebrate , well it took ages to get our first drink, it was like we were being ignored. Things went from bad to worse, they kept asking if we wanted more rounds of drinks but the food took forever to come. We finally got our main courses at 10.05pm Disgusting!. When we asked for the bill and complained about the service we were told it was because we had ordered 3 courses. Never heard so much rubbish in all my life. Other tables had arrived and were served long before us. Even after complaining I felt insulted that they still charged 10% service charge. It took so long to get our food there was no time for coffees or the birthday cake we took for my husband as people were leaving because they had to get back for baby sitters. £300 wasted. Wont be going back .

Went to Mr Tangs on Friday evening for my son in laws 50th Birthday Celebration, booked a table for 9 people for 7.30. Ordered our drinks and waited ages for them. Ordered our 3 course meal, waited ages for the first two courses, and then sat there until 10pm when I had to say something. our food came out shortly after, by which time the heater trays on our table had gone out, they replaced one after I asked for replacements. We had brought a Birthday cake along and had planned to have this served with coffee, but by the time we had eaten our main meal it was so late that we asked for the cake to be returned to us and paid the bill and left. On leaving I complained about the poor service and the fact that we had been charged £27 service charge. It fell on deaf ears. Avoid if you want to eat within 3 hours

I am sure that this is the best Chinese restaurant in the area. Food is typical fayre aimed at English people, mainly people over 40 and families. Which was fine for my family including my Mum who is 40 x 2 and loves the cuisine and loved Mr Tang's. 5 out of 5 she reckons. This was on way back from a trip to Southend. Will go again. Just off the A127.

Lovely friendly restaurant fantastic food

We have used this restaurant some years ago for a take out service, but this was the first time we have sat down for a meal. The friends we were eating with had used this restaurant and recommended we eat there. The restaurant is a family run concern and very friendly, the service was a bit slow to start with but they were busy. The food was excellent and the drinks not that expensive. We had a starter of crispy duck which was moist and full of flavour. The chicken with yellow bean source and the sizzling fillet steak were both very very good. The food was worth giving this restaurant a 4.5 out of five, but was not quite excellent. Will certainly return for another meal.

This restaurant has got better over the last year, with much more choice now. It is a self service restaurant, with many Chinese style dishes, but also pizza, Indian curries, sushi, and lots of desserts including a chocolate fountain! As long as you can eat lots at one meal, it is good value for money. You can refill your plate as many times as you like. It is a good opportunity to try new foods.

We went in a big crowd for a birthday bash....we was not to impressed with the food..and most certainly NOT the service.

We visited on the 14th January for the first time and most definitely had a lovely meal, there was nine of us including myself so a big table to cater for. The food was beautiful we all ordered a dish and shared it between ourselves, the dish sizes are extremely generous which is great so we didn’t need to add to our order at all! The ladies that were waiting on us were so attentive and extremely polite from when we sat down until we had finished our meals.
