Wing Yip in Croydon

Car parkng scam alert. Wing yip lease car park to ukps then claim fines are nothing to do with them. Wing yip own the land and make money from the fines by the lease. Went for mothers day meal and full shop. Went over 2 hours but spent £400. Now they want £100 more for parking fine. Who looks for parking signs when you drive into a restaurant car park. Scammers and should be ashamed.

My parents parked at Wing Yip, the car was parked for 45 mins, whilst my mum went shopping in Wing Yip, my father popped to Halfords and then quickly re-joined her in the supermarket. They then received a £100 fine - they went back in to speak to Wing yip, management who refused to spk to them, saying they had nothing to do with the parking. My parents appealed to UKPS and sent copy of credit card bill/receipt to prove they were customers and confirm the car was parked only for the duration she was shopping. The appeal was refused on some nonsense in the small print - that my father shouldn’t have excited the ‘compound’. As my mother was shopping for all 45min the car was parked - this parking ‘regime’ is clearly just a money making scam that Wing Yip management are aware of and appear to be party to. This has really upset my elderly mum who has been a Customers for years. Shame on Wing yip and UKPS!!

Amazing place for all your Chinese and oriental grocery needs. Huge choice. We visit several times a year to stock up various frozen and food cupboard items. It’s not the cheapest but def the best.

What a disappointing way to start the year of the dragon... We went to Wing-Yip on the 9th Feb to do a bit of shopping and meet family for a reunion dinner at Tai-Tung, but today received a parking charge notice for exceeding our stay. Having read similar reviews here on Tripadvisor I really wish we'd checked beforehand, because we saw no obvious signage and have parked at Wing Yip regularly over the years. We intend to challenge our PCN but don't expect it to lead to anything. One thing is certain though, we will not be returning to Wing Yip.

The food is sometimes ok and sometimes just awful. The chef had obviously burnt all the noodles of a particular kind that day as the waitress said there's no point sending them back as they're 'all like that tonight'. So it's overall not a good experience, made worse by being stung with a bill from £100 for parking. We had absolutely no idea parking wasn't free (we haven't been there for years and will now NEVER go back). Yes there is probably a sign but it was dark and it was raining.

I drove to Wing Yip for dim sum to celebrate Chinese New Year and spent a lot of money in the restaurant and the superstore. A few days later I received a parking charge for exceeding a 2 hour stay. Wing Yip is the landlord of the car park and UKPS operate it on their behalf. This is an outrageous way for Wing Yip to treat its customers.

Bought seaweed which is a dry food, bought three packs, they were mouldy. Went back didn't have a receipt, got told no refund no receipt. Cashier lady did try to look for my receipt on their system but couldn't find it. They say it doesn't affect your statutory rights but reality tells you otherwise. Wing yip didn't exchange nor refund the goods. Make sure you keep your receipts people. I left the three packs there. I wonder if they will end up back on the shelf? Won't be buying seaweed there then....

Went to Wing Yip 12th Jan 24 and did some shopping and had lunch while we were there. Six days later I received parking fine for over staying. There are: 1. No principal signage near the entrance to the car park describing (A) who the car park is for, (B) time limits on length of stay, and (C) details of any charges or free periods of stay. 2. No visible local signage in and around where I parked my car to provide me with further details, including how much I would be charged for overstaying. I made an appeal and sent 18:30 in the evening after office hour and the next day 09:17 I received 5 pages long standard email to reject my appeal with their reply “FULL & FINAL RESPONSE WITHOUT PREJUDICE”. Which means there is no appeal process at all. The freehold owner of the land Wing Yip W. Wing Yip & Brothers Property and Investments Ltd seems to be happy to wash their hand off despite they have Wing Yip supermarket onsite, knowingly majority of people shopping there are Chinese/Asian, and some of them may have language barrier and possibly working and getting paid minimum wage, parking fine can: • Bring them stress and anxiety. • Extra financial burden. There is a such imbalance of power in play, I have now made my decision for not shopping in there anymore, in addition I will not use any of the parking facilities that manages by UKPS. There are plenty of alternative shopping choice around e.g. Hmart, Korean food etc.

On 17 Jan 2024 I went with friends to shop for Chinese food in the Superstore ( Wing Yip at Croydon) and have lunch in the restaurant (Tai Tung). Today, 22 Jan I received a penalty notice (a fine of £60:00) from the car park management company. After a lot of redirected and unanswered phone calls to the car parking company I rang Wing Yip and then to be told that the fine was for parking more than 2 hours in the car park. This is totally unacceptable. If you shop in the superstore & eat in the restaurant you need more than 2 hours. It seems that Wing Yip and the other shops in the complex are doind their utmost to punish their customers for bringing them business. Morally the whole episode stinks of unfair practices and extorting money from unsuspecting customers who dare to bring them business. So please be warned and make sure you don't give them your custom if it means you need to stay for more than 2 hours in the car park.

Very clean oriental supermarket. Pleasant staff. Good variety of fresh, frozen and ambient products. Went to the restaurant, nice food, busy, but not noisy and not rushed. Squid and duck were perfect. There is an adjoining bakery with some lovely treats, definitely try the coconut buns and the pandas chiffon cake

I went shopping at Wing Yip just before Christmas. Two weeks later I received a parking charge notice for £100 because they claimed I was a "non customer" using their car park. Obviously I appealed offering to show my receipt but they referred to some small print that is apparently in the terms and conditions. Do I really want the hassle of going to court over this or shall I just pay up to make it go away? Will I ever go back there? That's much easier to answer.

Terrible to treat genuine customers with a parking fine for using their business. We felt we had genuine reason to appeal due to using 3-4 facilities on the site and spending a lot in the restaurant. But there is an instant rejection on the appeal. As other have said, this is a scam.

I was shocked to receive a letter from UKPS issuing me a fine of £100 for 'not parking according to the signage installed in Wing Yip Croydon carpark' a few days ago!!! There were no details in the letter and when I googled, a number of people were also ripped off by this very unfair parking fine. Firstly, the signage (if there was one) was NOT obvious. Adding to that, I have had no problems with parking since it opened years ago! Like all the reviewers, I spent a lot of money that day (at least £400) shopping in Wing Yip and eating at the restaurant. I cannot understand how they expect customers to do everything within a short time. I still do not know what is the parking time limit, as there is no information on the letter, nor on the Wing Yip website! I agree with all the reviewer feedbacks and wished I had read their reviews before going to Wing Yip. There is no point calling Wing Yip management as it will be a waste of time and they are the ones who are ripping off customers! This is daylight robbery and it has now put me off going to Wing Yip centre, whether to shop, eat at Tai Tung restaurant or buy from the bakery! It is definitely a scam to rip off customers. My advice to everyone is DO NOT GO TO WING YIP! It is better to buy from smaller Asian shops. What is sold in Wing Yip can be purchased from smaller Asian shops and in the traditional British supermarkets.

Average food, with a rip off parking scam included! Whatever your meal costs, don't whatever you do linger for more than two hours - or God forbid shop as well. You will get a parking charge from the operators.

We had a lovely dinner with my family. The restaurant service is the normal the food was good. We had the relax and fun night with the family. What will they know is while we were spending time in the place the parking where we left our cars was charging us £60 because we spend more than 90 minutes in that place. I call the restaurant to try to see if they could wave the charge. They said nothing. They could do nothing they couldn’t help . I explained where you were your customers. We spent £500 in food we spend time in your restaurant and we do know that we were spending too long with you. They don’t care about anything . Spoke with Shop, rubbish no customer service skills whatsoever has to do with the shop , call the shop customer service was rubbish. The man said the parking is nothing to do with them is a company who looks after the parking, so I had to talk to them . And I ask I’m sorry but how come I spend time in spending money in your place any someone else’s I have to do with the phone why are you not looking after your customers the customer who spent a lot of money . Never mind, it has a shopping centre that you can go and shop for food. You have the cafe that you can go. Have some snacks .. apparently you only can do the space of two hours which is strange . My husband Aunty, who had paid the bill. Contacted the company to explain we went and we spend money , we were genuine customers. They didn’t know that we only allowed 90 minutes because we’ve been customers from this place for decades never happened. We all spend. I don’t know how many hours spent there. it is really sad to feel like this place tone to a robbery that should be relaxing with family became a stealing point because it was not just my car was fine. The people from our time I got fine and the restaurant and the shop don’t care I think Slowly Slowly people will stop going to this restaurant and it will close because no one will want to be fined £60 Every time they go there and spend two hours in the restaurant .

Today I visited the restuarant following a day out with my daughter, we were both in need of a quick snack.. We ordered the vegetarian spring rolls, Vietnamese sping rolls & the deep fried prawns. I kid you not, for the Vietnamese spring rolls what we received were 3 sausages wrapped in filo pastry. Yes ! Sausages in filo pastry. We are still baffeld ?! The "vegetarian spring rolls" were foul, literally. They smelt so very bad, infact distressing. We could not eat them. The contents were stale semi cooked limp cabbage and rancid black seaweed, not much else. We had heard so many compliments about the food there, but this goes without saying, they have lost our custom forever ! We recommend you check the contents of your order before you leave the store or you may be in for an unappetising surprise. A total waste of money served by and wholly unethical business practice. Eat elsewhere !

Visited this place before and after refurbishment. It is very spacious now and offers a big range of Chinese, Thai, Taiwanese, Japanese food etc. There is a frozen section as well as vegetable section etc.

So the supermarket is very good and sells food offerings from around the world. It is undergoing a major refurb at the moment but is looking good. The restaurant, well, why not. Lots of tables, lots of oriental people eating there, I trust their judgement....

I went along with my sister to go for a massage and had an awful experience. The masseuse kept coming in & out of the massage room and shouting in Chinese to her fellow employees. It was not relaxing in the slightest. As for the massage she used no form of cream or oil so it was very dry and rough and it appeared she had no technique or idea of what she was doing whatsoever. When it came to pay she screamed at me accusing me that I was using the wrong card and then demanded it suddenly and shouted ‘give it to me’. It was extremely unprofessional and I shan’t be going back. In fact, I would strongly urge you not to visit as I left very anxious and sore after the whole experience. If I could rate this in minus stars I would - do not go!

Don't know why this place is so busy. The food is just average and very expensive. The biggest joke is the bill is in Chinese so you can't check it. I asked for one in english but was told no can write english

We were looking forward to come here to eat before we shop next door Chinese supermarket. The dim sum I've noticed were not freshly made from the restaurant but maybe bought from the supermarket next door. The meatballs were soggy and they have forgotten to cook a dish until we've mention this to the waitress.When the bill arrived, I was shocked at the price. They have charged the 10% service charge and not very friendly service.

Chaotic !!! Staff very efficient unfortunately not enough of them. Long wait for service ....dim sum not bad, roast meats very good and noodle dishes terrible (nothing near to the authentic stuff) and portions small. Long wait for your teapot to be topped up with hot water despite what you are charged each person for tea (hot water) and service charge.

Went to the Wing Yip Center yesterday for an afternoon out. Starting with the Chinese Restaurant, and then shopping in the Supermarket and a look round the gift shop all at the Wing Yip Center. The restaurant is authentic Chinese and the food is excellent. Afterwards shopping in the Chinese supermarket. Which is huge, with all Chinese and Asian shopping, fresh and frozen. Then the gift shop is also worth a visit. Also on site is a Chinese bakery which was our last call before home. Drink and Chinese cake. Definitely worth a visit.

Had very tasty food. Price was responsible. Service could have been much more interactive. Dessert menu was never offered, so they missed out on an order there. Staff could do with training on front of house service.

Ignore the negative reviews about miserable staff if I was as busy as they are I would find it hard to crack a smile good service but awesome food good his is more than your regular Chinese. Some dishes I have never heard of but tried some. It was a true experience and no one can say portions are small

Just been here with the family. Very disappointed with the staffs lack of hospitality and customer care. I didn’t feel welcomed and felt very rushed. The restaurant feels very dated. The food itself is lovely, really enjoyed the food. Couldn’t eat it all, so we asked for take away boxes, the waitress literally threw the take away boxes on the table and we had to do it ourself in the middle of the restaurant which I found very crude. When they did bring the food dishes out, they didn’t even say what it was and who it was for, just put it on the table as they walked past. So we were all trying to pass each other’s dishes around and figure out what was what. The staffs attitudes really annoyed me to be honest. I won’t be going again.

We didn't appreciate out time in the Wing Yip... the decorations are aweful and old-fashioned, and some parts are dirty. The food was blant, tasteless the staff is not really welcoming... such a shame to have a great front view and be disappointed inside like this.

Amazing food and the waiting staff so helpful with what to choose. Don't forget to ask for take away containers if you can't eat it all. The on site bakery is brilliant too, try the pork Char Sui buns. And allow lots of time for the shop, the renovations have greatly improved the selection and it is vast. For instance there are several metres of shelving just with different chilli sauces!

Two tierd restaurant which is very busy but serves great food. I have always wanted to eat here and have noticed how packed out the restaurant is at all different times.

Although a weekday, the ground floor restaurant was completely full, and the upstairs was nearly full as well. Must be heaving at the weekend.

The superstore has been refurbished to a much better standard. The majority of the products have been moved to the back area and there seems to be more stock available. There is a bakery too and a few different restaurants - some better than others.

Visited here this week for lunch - have been loads of times before but this time I took some friends who had never been before. The food is always excellent and authentic. I had forgotten that it was Chinese new year week and so was especially busy - but well worth the wait to be seated. There is a lift outside the restaurant that you can use to access the upstairs area of the restaurant.

I go roughly once every two or three months, and it is always good value. Even on a mid-week day, the restaurant was fairly full.

I have reviewed this restaurant before and our experience last night was fantastic. The food and service were of the highest quality. We were meeting friends for the first time in ages and the staff added to our enjoyment. Thank you and we will be back especially for the satay prawns .

We got a takeaway for 5 people, which came to £152!! one of the dishes was Stewed Ee with garlicl in pot and it was half pork and half eel which not mentioned on the menu, although they do say on the menu it was eel and garlic. The person who ordered this dish could not eat it for religious reasons. Also we did not receive one of the dishes. When I phoned the restaurant I eventually spoke to the Manager a Mr Leong who was very unhelpful and put the onus on us for doing the ordering and not asking if there was pork in the dish, he could not understand they can mention garlic on the menu but not pork!! There was no mention about the missing dish. The total cost of these 2 dishes was nearly £30!! All he said was return the dish with the pork. I will not be using this restaurant again. Also prices have gone by £1 or more!!! The website has not been updated with the new increased prices.

Haven’t been here in a few years and pleased we made the trip again. A great selection of cupboard items/ dry goods and fresh fruit/ vegetables. You can also buy in bulk. The bakery & Chinese restaurant in the centre are fantastic places to eat as well. Really recommend a trip to here!

A huge selection of Chinese, Filipino, Korean, Malaysian, Japanese etc food. Both fresh and frozen. Staff very helpful. Occasional food demos.Plenty of parking. Good value for money.

As usual, the food was very good and the service fine; and the price not too dear for metroplitan Croydon!

Lots of varied authentic ingredients. Fresh and frozen produce. Live lobsters or crabs in tank. Household items, such as crockery and saucepans etc available. Able to buy produce in bulk if wanted. Good experience. Only surprised to find vat / tax is not already included within bill. A bit like the US billing. Would go again to do a shop, car park available.

I came here whilst working in the area. It’s a traditional Chinese place, more ‘functional’ than glamorous. If you want posh fine dining don’t come. But if you want really good authentic Chinese food the DEFINITELY come here! Generous portions reasonably priced. Lovely lovely tasting.

Went mainly for the Dim Sum. It was busy, so we were offered to share a table, which we did. Service was quick. The food was piping hot & really good value. I'll go again.

Been to this restaurant numerous times but this time I'm not impressed. The chicken tasted and looked synthetic - not sure what it was to be honest. The meal (chicken and cashew nuts) was very gelatinous . Very disappointing. My advice - avoid the chicken

I went to have a massage for 10 pounds 20 minutes which is earlier she was pushing to pay 30 pounds for 30 minutes. She started massaging me from the same area from time to time. It was awful and painful and i said she needs to stop coz she is already hurting me. She has to stop few times as she was texting and answering few calls which is very unprofessional. She was also speaking to his colleague in their chinese language. At the last 5 minutes of massage she was tapping my back really hard and that was the time i told her to stop. Honestly i felt like my body was ruined and i felt it was like being punch few times. Never ever would come back to that place again.

We’ve always been a valued costumer of Wing Yip Croydon but today Staff seems to be very unhelpful and unfriendly. Got my shopping for amounting of £209.87 so it means that will be a big loading, expecting somebody will help me unload the trolley and for me to pack the things. But obviously no one come to the rescue and staff from the cashier keep on saying they have no staff today. OMG ....every pay out tilt got a 2 staff, one is helping to unload and load the shopping items and one simply standing in front of the tilt where I was but he didn’t bother to help that make me so cross even mentioning to the cashier but to no avail.... saying he was not suppose to be there dahhh. He stayed after I even left!! And to give my feedback to the costumer service all He can say alright .... alright hey I am valued costumer... a simple sorry will do me a favour to calm down ..... so annoying people!!!!!!

I come to this Chinese restaurant every month or two. The food is invariably good and the prices are not dear. The service is OK.

I've been a couple time. But wing yip is the place to go for anything oriental. From food to drinks to tools the have it all definitely going back.

Brilliant!! The Service, Food, Drinks & Value for Money are all superb. This place is very hard to beat!

There is a wide variety of foodstuffs from Asia, including Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Indian and Thai. Also has fresh vegetables and meat

Delicious family friendly dim sum - great on the weekend and always full of people. Although the service may not be the warmest it somewhat adds to the charm. Would highly recommend the pork puffs and yam. Keep going back for more!

We ordered a steamed chicken and in the middle it was raw. Waitress was trying to convince us that they’d eat it just like that and that’s how it should be. What a joke?

I love wing yip. I’ve been going since I was a child and can safely say it has never failed me. The dimsum is on a different level to everywhere else and the duck will leave you salivating.

Not a lot I can say, it's OK, just OK. The dining room is massive, must seat 150 or so, and they turn food out fairly quickly so the kitchens must be enormous. The food was OK, you cant go too far wrong with the standard choices, it just didn't inspire me. I'd go back if invited but wouldn't go out of my way

Went to Tai Tung, Chinese restaurant in Wing Yip shopping centre. Enjoyed my meal as usual. And the service was not rushed or abrupt as some other reviewers reported.

Love shopping here there is a massive selection of everything you buy from a take away but you can do it yourself at a fraction of the price.

From the shops, restaurants and bakery it’s just a great experience. The staff in the shop are very helpful, no language barrier at all. The stock is totally extensive. So many choices fresh dried tinned or frozen. The bakery just outside is brilliant. Love the brusque ladies working there

Good food at the resturant but unfortunately the overall experience was let down by members of the serving staff.

If you want to eat authentic Chinese food this is your place. It is not at the touristic area of London what why is authentic and not overpriced!! I have tried several Chinese restaurants but this is by far the best . Simple , good food , not expensive. I am visiting it once monthly!! My favorites? The crispy dack and the sweet and sour pork. It is only difficulty is to understand the Chinese-English of the stuff!!
