Discovered this restaurant about 6 months ago. We have only ever ordered takeaway, but it is some of the best Chinese food in town. Don't think I've tried a single thing that wasn't delicious! Wouldn't go anywhere else. Only feedback would be to be careful selecting the 'vegetarian' dishes as some are made (as traditionally) with fish or meat elements...

Ordered food for collection. Food was very good quality and was able to choose some more unusual dishes than more westernised Chinese restaurants. The main reason for the high score was customer service - the venue had unfortunately run out of a specific ingredient. They handled this very well by calling to communicate, offering alternatives and then ensuring ready for collection with rest of the order (despite short order time). Very nice friendly staff. Can't wait to return to eat-in.

If I could give it 0 stars I would. Ordered our food but never got it. They rang to say they were outside but after looking around and walking around our building for 20 minutes there was no sign. We rang the restaurant and they put us on hold only to hang up on us a few moments later. We rang them back after another 20 minutes of looking for someone and they were nothing but rude on the phone. Eventually we organised to meet their driver somewhere else where he could find it easier. He said he would be there in a half an hour AFTER he finishes work and would ring us when he’s there. So we walked down to the Main Street 20 minutes early just incase he came before we got there. After 45 minutes waiting outside (it was now 10:30pm) we decided to ring his personal number he had given us to see where abouts he was. When he picked up he told us he had already been to the collection point 10 minutes before we had rang him but this isn’t true because we were there waiting for him. He said he had gone home and was calling us “idiots” and “morons” angrily. When we went onto the deliveroo app it was marked as delivered at 10.10pm but clearly it was not and he had never even attempted to deliver it as we were waiting there. Horrible customer service would never recommend to anyone

I made an order to Wing Sing Inn via Deliveroo at 17.51 on 10th Dec. I had no missed call or sign of delivery at 19.19 and I therefore called the restaurant. I was informed that the driver was on route to give me my Chinese food and will be there within half an hour. I called the restaurant again at 19.40 as it had not arrived. This time they said it should be with me in 20 minutes. I contacted Deliveroo at this stage via the live chat and they called the restaurant. They were told by the restaurant that the food was on route. I called the restaurant again at 20.34 to ask them about the order and to please check the order carefully. I was then told that they never received the order from Deliveroo at all. Unfortunately I never received this order or received any missed call from the restaurant about an attempted delivery. The order cost £36.49 and now Deliveroo won’t give me a refund because Wing Sing Inn told them that I received the order which is a complete lie. I feel like my money has been stolen. Very disappointed

I made the mistake of Googling local Chinese restaurants and this place got 4-5 stars BUT I should have noticed there were only 2 reviews (employees?). The fried rice was incredibly stodgy - the rice was sticking together and it had the consistency of porridge. The chicken & cashew nuts was incredibly over-salty to the point that I could not manage more than a couple of mouthfuls (despite me being really hungry). Please take my advice and don't waste your money on this place - I hate to be so negative but I feel on this occasion (a) I have to warn others and (b) the owner needs feedback to reconsider the quality of food.

Don't know why this restaurant has 4.5 Star rating. We travelled to Scotland for COP26, one day visited friends in Edinburgh who chose this restaurant based on its 4.5 rating.. it was anything but. where do I start; as we entered the restaurant, it had the feeling of a canteen with round tables. the air was very stale and smelly. But the prices were in fine dinning category. We go to similarly priced Chinese restaurants in the South of England with very pleasant atmosphere. Also noticed the chef / owner shouting at staff or perhaps family members from inside the kitchen. our order seems to be too much for them. Food was bland, the stale air and atmosphere didn't help. Staff didn't know what Gin and Tonic was. Some little element of training would have helped there. When it was time to pay the bill, they refused to take the card saying they didn't know how to use the card machine!!.. and asked us to get the cash from the machine outside. -should be quite the opposite in these pandemic times but not here. -perhaps cash doesn't show on the system and the card payment is harder to hide in the accounts. can't think of any other reason. Realising the situation we insisted to pay by card, only then they processed the card payment for us on credit card but still tried to not give us the receipt for the card payment claiming it belonged to them. what can I say.. We definitely don't recommend this place. they need to put a lot of things right to be worthy of even 3 stars.

We had black pepper beef - tender, well seasoned and served on sizzling plate, szechuan chicken (normally comes with bones but we prefer boneless meat) which was aromatic, savoury and spicy. Delicious food but the elderly woman taking our order was extremely ignorant and rude later on. I ordered a tripe soup, egg fried rice and a sizzling squid. Delicious! My mother only ordered the chicken noodles. When the food came, she gave my mom chicken fried rice and when she said she asked for chicken noodles, the lady started arguing and was adamant that my mom ordered the fried rice. First of all, my mom is not a fan of fried rice, secondly, I heard her ask for the noodles. After that issue, the elderly server started becoming obnoxious. Yes, we are not Chinese but does that give you the right to argue with us, especially when you are wrong? You need to improve on your communication skills! Absolutely pathetic. I urge locals, tourists and non-Chinese speakers alike to just order the food, CHECK if it's right and walk out of the door. The elderly server simply ruined our night with her arrogance.

Last night they over charged us about 2 pounds more per dish, and when I discovered the price doesn't add up, they quickly changed the story that they have a different price with sitting in versus take out price. This is rubbish and untrue. My family and grabbed some takeaway from here after a long day exploring Edinburgh. It was perfect to just settle into our Airbnb with some Chinese food. We got some sweetcorn soup, beef noodles, and Kung Pao chicken. The chicken was very good, incredibly tender and had the right amount of spice flavor. What it was lacking to me was vegetables, which is what I am used to. It was an excellent interpretation of the dish and skillfully cooked, don’t get me wrong, but one reason I often order Kung Pao chicken back home is you also get some veggies and is a more balanced meal. I guess that is how they do it here, but I like still Chinese vegetables.

An unassuming restaurant serving truly authentic Chinese food, Wing Sing Inn, is a pleasure to dine in. The feeling is one of eating in the home of your host and the food is made to be shared, larger groups are seated at round tables with a 'Lazy Susan' to make this possible. The menu is available in English and Chinese, is grouped in logical if not always accurate sections e.g. the wonderful green beans with pork is in the vegetables section as it is 90% vegetables, so beware vegetarians. The food they make can be seen in many Chinese menus, but the standard and flavours are amazing, dumplings are clearly hand-rolled and so flavoursome, ribs are available in simply to complex sauces depending on your taste, seafood is ordered on availability and not whatever is in the freezer, soups are available in individual or family sizes. All in all, you WILL over-order and you WILL finish every bit! The place is clearly well respected by the Chinese community in Edinburgh as it is often full to capacity with families or arriving bus loads of Chinese tourists, who leave looking so happy! Therefore booking is essential. Enjoy, I always do!

Spicy Crab, Pan fried 1/2 Duck, Kung Po Chicken, Goutie Dumpling, Salt & Pepper Squid, Peppered Beef etc. I haven't been brave enough though to try the jellyfish, lungs, fish heads and other diverse dishes. Dishes come as they are ready (sometimes the rice is last) and are always hot unlike some of the tepid offerings at other establishments. The atmosphere is basic but the food more than makes up for it. Lots to try if you are adventurous. The golden fried crab, steamed pork joint, green beans and steamed sea bass as some recommendations. Its byob although they do have a limited selection of drinks.

On approaching, a busload of satisfied Chinese tourists were just leaving - if that doesn't tell you 2 things - the food is authentic & very good - then I don't know what does. If your idea idea of Chinese food is lemon chicken & chips, rice & cury sauce, then go to your local takeaway. We've been going here for years now & the standard never drops below outstanding. Friendly service & great chefs, turning out excellent dishes, amongst our favourites are the fried guotie dumplings, salt & pepper squid, stewed beef & potatoes, razor clams with glass vermicelli noodles, chili, ginger, black bean. If there is better Chinese & Szechuan food in the UK, then I have yet to discover it. Brilliant place. I hope they never retire.;)) Oh & very good value compared to the lesser & pricier 'upmarket' westernised Chinese places in the city centres. Go & find out for yourself.

In my opinion one of the best Chinese meals in town ! Great menu, traditional food . Service is really good too. We've been in when it's really busy, but last night it was quiet, but the food is ALWAYS excellent. Flavours are spot on, and portion size is good. Surroundings are sparse but who cares ! My only small criticism is the huge difference between the take away and sit in price . Won't stop me going though .

We lived several years in China and love chinese food. We stayed around the corner from this restaurant so used to opportunity to taste what is claimed by some people to be the best chinese restaurant in Edinburgh. We took our food as take away. We had choice of vegetables (including the egg plant dish) and salt and pepper squid and chicken kung pao. The chicken was below average. The squid was lovely, so were the other dishes. Loved the green beens, but somehow missed the minced port that it was supposed to have. Overal nice food but not impressive and for take away it was more expensive than the other chinese restaurants. So if I was in the neigborhood I would give it another try but wouldn´t go out of my way to eat here.

Diner/family style Chinese food. Don't expect fine dining or "westernised" dishes you'd expect at a takeaway.Seafood was delicious and plentiful. Can't fault the place. Not for those who shy away from bones, unusual cuts of meat, etc....

A busy, busy Chinese restaurant, this is about as far from your Chinese buffet, lemon chicken experience as you'll find in Edinburgh. Serving uncompromising Northern Chinese dishes from Shandong there are some challenging dishes such as pig lung (better than it sounds) but the pork dumplings are just superb, moist and packed with flavour. The downsides are the popularity of this place with busloads of Chinese tourists can make it hard to get a table and it can be VERY loud

Their Ma po dofu is the best in Edinburgh. All meals are Large potions and good prices. They serve real Chinese food as my Chinese friends recommended me. Very busy with Asian customers and that means good to visit if you wanna tast real one.

I've got to admit to a weak spot for Chinese takeaway. It's always the first choice for me. Now this is my first choice Chinese food in Edinburgh. Having been to China on holiday twice, I think this is as close as you can get to authentic Chinese food. Don't expect a chicken, cashew nuts and bamboo shoots. Go for the beef, peppers and black pepper sauce or the beef pot with potatoes. Also a good wun-tun soup and I've heard the duck is really excellent so will be trying that soon. Oh and the pork with French beans is good too. The best sign that you should go to this place is that bus loads of Chinese tourists are taken here for their dinner (obviously on package tours - there's often a bus of Chinese tourists pulls up right outside and then the place is so full you can't get a table or have to wait a bit longer for takeaway - but it's worth it). If you want a chuckle, turn to the last page of the menu which offers Chinese food for Western tastes, but please don't waste your time or tastebuds ordering from that section!

I've never written a review for Wing Sing before, but I thought it was about time I did. I've been coming here regularly for over 3 years and I can honestly say it is EASILY the best Chinese restaurant in Edinburgh.Don't come here if you are expecting the usual tasteless 'British' style Chinese/Oriental standards. This is traditional, authentic Chinese cooking with flavours and spices that will surprise you from the first mouthful. There are a few 'interesting' options on the vast and varied menu, but there is plenty there for even the fussiest eater! My favourites are...- Yu-hung aubergine (amazing)- Salt and pepper squid- Yellow bean chicken- Spicy Szechuan chicken (off the bone)- Pan fried dumplingsetc etc etc. There are LOADS of good ones!Anyway, come here, order loads - each dish is only £7-8ish - and just try something different! You won't be disappointed!

Great, fresh tasting, authentic proper Chinese food in generous portions. Been going here for years, Never been disappointed. Salt n pepper squid is amazing. Razor clams with ginger & black bean with glass vermicelli noodles. Different class. Full of Chinese people - says it all really. Not 'Jimmy Chungs' so if you want industrial platefuls of gloopy fodder, go there instead. If you want a real Chinese experience, go here.

My party of 5 had a very reasonably priced and tasty meal tonight but it was spoiled by an attempt to charge £28 per bottle for the house wine - an ordinary 2012 french red which would be no more than £6 in any supermarket.after much heated discussion the price was reduced but the experience was spoiled by this attempt to rip us off - and the wine was still sunstantially overpriced even by Edinburgh standards.

Pros:- tasty- authentic (coming from a mainland Chinese!)- great value for moneyCons:- large Chinese tour groups eat here so it can be a bit loud and messy but everything seems fairly clean- don't go there expecting some fine dining atmosphereConclusion:- highly recommended if you'd like great authentic Chinese food and not just your average sweet n sour pork, beef in black bean sauce- we had the hot n spicy crab (tasty but messy to eat), dumplings, fish fragrant pork and Chinese bok choy with mushroom, all were really good

We ate at at the Wing Sing on a Saturday (date) night as it's not far from us and my OH had a really good meal here a couple of years ago. It's been on the list and finally tonight we got round to it.Oh boy, am I glad we did.The menu is really helpful - with the Cantonese (?) translated into English in an amazing fashion - flogs legs being my favourite and photographs there to help us along.Whilst the environment may lack some atmosphere, the food is very good. Flavours and textures about with the holy trilogy of garlic, onion and ginger evident in every dish to varying degrees. The chilli is there in different degrees so have the chinese tea on standby - it really helps.Highly recommended.

Best authentic Chinese food I've ever had in a restaurant! You know you are eating in the right place when you are severely outnumbered by Chinese people eating in a Chinese restaurant. They even made food for my mother that was not on the menu. I wish I had a place like this close to my house!!!
