G Y Chinese in Edinburgh, City of

I have been ordering from GY for a few months and it has been very good. Unfortunately, my order tonight was not great. The first piece of salt and pepper chicken I bit into was pretty undercooked. I thought I'd ignore it, but a lot of the pieces I cut into were on the pink side😬 These things can happen, but it did ruin the meal for us.

Fantastic family run takeaway to check out if in central Edinburgh(Marchmount),they have a quick delivery service available and a very good menu , Chicken curry fried rice and Lemon chicken with barbecued spare ribs are a favourite of mine when in town . You can also order online (see photos) . #simplythebest #Edinburgh. The family are very welcoming and helpful if you're not sure about dishes on the menu.

Lemon chicken was covered in sweet and sour sauce The checked was overcooked and tough, must have been soaked in the sauce for a very long time as the chicken itself had taken on the colour of the sauce . Almost inedible, thrown in bin.

Great late night food with fantastic service. Only place open late, and I’m so glad that they are. They were so kind and the food was delicious.

The food was a bit soggy and wet. The crispy chilli beef wasn’t crispy at all more like jelly beef. 3 stars at best.

Wan tons were brick hard. Shredded beef was tough to chew and not a great taste either. Ribs were tough to chew and rice was mushy/soggy and not very nice rice at all. Coke drink was warm. The food was so disgusting, I threw the lot in the bin. It was a complete waste of money as its the worst Chinese food I've ever eaten. Street clear of this place as food not good. I have one star, but if I could hand given no stars, I would have.

From the time I placed my order to the time I received it, it think it took an hour and 40 minutes or so. It was 35 minutes based on the longest delivery time on the order. And after I called twice to followup the order, they reset the delivery time.

Not great - food was late and wrong item delivered when it finally arrived.

Visiting Edinburgh over the weekend and wanted some Chinese food. Reviews were pretty good so we took a chance and ordered the lemon chicken, orange chicken and grilled chicken with garlic and ginger. We totally regretted it. Grilled chicken was smothered in sauce and was (besides garlic and ginger) tasteless. The sauces for the lemon and orange chicken were ok, seemed to be made with real lemon and oranges but the chicken tasted like it was left in the sauce for 2 days. It was jello like and the breading very soggy. Also, the order didn’t come with any soy sauce but that’s a mistake on our part for not checking. The crab crisps were great!

And then the food: the crab soup was tasteless surimi sticks swimming in some gelatinous juice—it ended in the sink. And the chicken was so tough I couldn't eat it and threw it in the bin! Never again! I emailed to complain but over a week later they still have not got back to me. Avoid that place!

Great food and delivered as ordered. Arrived 5 minutes before target delivery time.

Food was great, beef quality was better than most others and well cooked but there was too much of it and not enough noodles in the dish! the honey chilli chicken sauce was a bit on the runny side and some of the chicken wasn't great but very tasty really.

I've been ordering from GY for years, they're a great restaurant, the food is excellent and very well priced, I've never had a problem ordering from them. Highly recommended :-)

Unfortunately this takeaway seems to be good/bad/good/bad!! So I’ve now given up on it. Takeaway food sometimes doesn’t travel well but when your only 2mins away i expect it to be better. Sometimes the quality and taste is just not good😩

Pork was amazing, unfortunately the duck and beef was mediocre, no real flavour of ginger with the duck, and a very mild Szechuan flavour from the beef. Spare ribs were really good as were the noodles

Could not recommend more! I ordered takeaway as I was craving chinese, and the sweet and sour pork and special fried rice was top notch!! the delivery was super quick and one of the team even gave me a courtesy call (I can't remember who I was speaking to but he was lovely!) to let me know my delivery was coming earlier than anticipated. Bought the set meal for two - thought the food was very good, definitely value for money! I have tried a few Chinese restaurants in the area and thought this was particularly nice. Delivered in a timely manner too.

Big menu with loads of variety, always very very tasty and they are 'no MSG'. Portions are generous and even at busy times if you drop in you only have to wait 10 mins max, the chefs work like demons! Been coming here for years and this is the standard to beat, but nowhere has. I have to say any one star reviews on here made me laugh, they sound like jealous competitors with respect to the food. I can't comment on delivery aspects as I always collect. I've never met a real life person who does not think this place is up among the best there is.

Top takeaway for as long as I can remember - certainly since 1980!

I really like the beef curry from here as it’s nice and spicy and the giant spring rolls are lovely (only get one whereas most restaurants do two), however, the chicken chow mein was terrible. Really dry, flavourless, only had beansprouts and small bits of chicken with thin noodles. Bland.

Chicken wings and kung po King prawn great. Crab soup a bit average

Always a really quick delivery. The food here is a very authentic, not syrupy. The beef curry is lovely and spicy. Giant spring rolls lovely and crisp and filling.

Amazing customer service and amazing food. We were so happy to find this Chinese and we had a variety of dishes and each one was of a high quality. We went for delivery because we were renting an apartment and they were so caring in finding us. Ace all round

My favourite Chinese in Edinburgh, run by a super lovely guy. The food has always been really excellent, particularly the chilli aubergine and chicken and sweetcorn soup! Always really accommodating with dietary requirements etc. Food is ready really quickly too. A really great take away all round!

This place used to be good but last time wasnt great and this was awful. The chicken had a weird cheap rubbery quality not like fresh meat at all and so did the ( few) bits of meat in the chop suey. The latter was also watery & tasteless. The best thing was the prawn toast but even it seemed more steamed than fried. I give up on this place

Hate giving unfavourable reviews but needs must. Very disappointed with tonight’s order.. over salty chips that were inedible Chicken was too chewy and noodles were very dry & bland Rice was just edible as were the starters but they didn’t taste as good as they usually do. Very sad that this is not a one off! Not sure if it’s time to find a new takeaway or just stay away from junk food & eat healthy food for a while as receiving a lot of disappointing food from my local establishments lately!
