Excellent pub off of Regents. The Guinness pie was excellent and big enough to be shareable in an early dinner together with the ox cheek croquettes. They had two DEYA beers on tap which immediately put them amongst the top pubs in the region.

Typical English pub, very nice and welcoming, their pies are excellent. I recommend it

Hosted a larger booking on the roof terrace. Lovely space in the centre of town with excellent service and food! The team were very responsive and accommodating when booking and super friendly on the day. Highly recommend!

I am from South Africa and the pub was such a vibe. They were welcoming and made sure we had an amazing night.

The pies at the Windmill are always decent. There’s also a variety of other options for entrees and mains though I’ve never ventured beyond the pies. There are a variety of spaces upstairs and down, and an outdoor terrace. Of course people also spill onto the street for a pint in the sun. Service is pleasant but staff can be absent.

Exceptional gaff run by new govner, Gio. Excellent staff and very efficient service. Quality food and very hygienic loos. Would definitely recommend and will definitely be back.

We stopped here for a late lunch, and decided to split a pie in order to have room for dessert. We tried the black pudding Scotch egg which was especially good when paired with the sauce. The yolk was cooked perfectly with a creamy center. We opted for the steak & kidney pie, and it was superb! It was the first time in my life I thought that kidneys were tasty. The kidney bits really complemented the richness of the steak and mushrooms. Then we got a sticky-toffee pudding to share, and it was amazing! The cake was warm and not too sweet, which made it a perfect match for the ice cream and sweet caramel pool beneath it. Definitely one of the best desserts I've ever had. The staff are friendly, and it's a really comfortable, clean space. Highly recommend!!

Great little boozer, nice atmosphere (even considering the current pandemic). We didn't eat, so can't comment on the pie's. Next time.... Update: I had one of their pies and it was well worth the wait. Beers aren't necessarily anything to write home about (they were "ok"), but the food was exceptional.

My retired colleagues and I have been having luncheon reunions at the Windmill, quarterly, for many years. Normally, the food quality has been first class. On this occasion one of the steak pies contained a high proportion of gristle. Most, but not all, enjoyed the scotch egg starter. This blip has not put us off from returning and we look forward to sampling more pies and good ales in future. Bruce

Not many places where one can have a good ol' fashioned British Pie...and a suet pastry one at that. Service could have been a tad more attentive but other than that definitely worth going for the pies. they also offer a good selection if one facies something else

My husband, daughter and I were visiting London from Chicago area. I definitely recommend this authentic pub for delicious meat pies and friendly service. ASK FOR DANNY! He was an exceptional server and gave us Americans honest info on service charge in UK. We ordered Scottish egg, and Guinness meat pies…all piping hot and freshly prepared. We arrived right as they were serving lunch (actually came before that and had to return at noon) so there was only one other table, and a few customers stopped in for drinks at the bar. I bet it would be a very lively spot at night. We will be back on our next trip to London!

Ate at The Windmill last year while on holiday in London. This year, came back and brought friends. The lamb shepherds pie is fantastic!

Great place for a group to meet for a pint or some food. Friendly and flexible staff. Easy to do small group bookings. Central location.

Went in for food. Got sat at a table in the passageway and duly ignored thereafter. After 20 minutes without human contact, I left. Presume it wasn’t representative of their service but still a bad experience.

Update: The pub management has been in touch, apologised, and addressed my concerns in a satisfactory manner. – Disappointing experience and lack of accountability. Pay attention to the recent reviews that say the food quality has declined. I visited The Windmill on 17th January with my partner to try their much-hyped pies. I had the chicken pie, which was fine, while he had the seafood pie. Within a few hours, he became violently ill, vomiting over 25 times throughout the night. We struggled to get home as he was unable to move without getting sick. I tried calling the pub multiple times that evening to warn them, but no one answered. The next day, I finally got through and was referred to Food Alert, a third-party food safety consultancy hired by Young’s Brewery. After two weeks of "investigation," they responded that they could not determine the cause of his illness, citing a "lack of evidence" (no stool sample, which was impossible given his condition) and wrongly assuming the cause was something he ate abroad—despite the fact that he had been in the UK for nearly three weeks, and we had shared every meal together at home except this one. We also contacted NHS 111 three times, speaking to a nurse on each call. They strongly advised going to A&E, but my partner was too unwell to move. This is all documented. Their investigation focused entirely on their records rather than acknowledging that food safety procedures do not guarantee mistakes never happen. Given the severity of his illness, the most likely cause was improper reheating or mishandling of the seafood pie. We were offered nothing, not even a refund for the meal. We were not looking for anything unreasonable: just a fair acknowledgement of what happened and compensation for the ruined evening, multiple taxi fares, and the cost of the meal. The lack of responsibility, the delayed response, and the unwillingness to offer even a goodwill gesture were extremely disappointing. The Windmill may have once been known for its pies, but given other reviewers mentioning the food quality as of late, I strongly advise caution before dining here.

Just order the meat pie! So warm and good

A nice pub in a good location, close to Regent Street and a shoŕt walk ftom Carnaby Street. They had three casks on but I opted for a double Woodford Reserve bourbon at a rather expensive £11.90. The main bar is fairly spacious and the restaurant bar is downstairs, accessed by going down four steps. They also have a restaurant upstairs. I was here at 4.30 on a Monday and it was fairly busy, due in part to a group of a dozen or so tourist. They do offer food with pies being a speciality. One downside for the less mobile is that the toilets are upstairs. I did enjoy my drink here, the bonus being around 20 different whiskies.

Best pies in London! Great midweek treat, tucked away in Mayfair. We had to make a hard choice as all the pies sounded delicious, we ended up with the steak and mushroom. Amazing quality and fantastic service from Danny - very attentive and accommodating. Thank you, we will be back!

First time I have been to this place I was stunned. I had the best pie I have ever had here. This time though it didn't live up to the expectations. I brought my girlfriend, eulogising this place since I had been which was roughly one year ago. The steak and kidney was not what I remembered at all. It had whole mushrooms in it which were more than the meat itself, and not listed as ingredients on the menu. Now, I am not British but I know that steak and kidney doesn't come with mushrooms traditionally, and you add them for some reason, you have the list it as one of the ingredients, since it was the main ingredient in terms of quantity basically . They even have a steak and mushroom pie on the menu so where is the logic in that? I had ordered another pie myself and told my girlfriend to get that one cause it was supposedly amazing. It wasn't and I even like mushrooms. The problem is the she doesn't and we had to swap pies in the end. When I asked the staff about it they lied about it and weren't really apologetic. Not even trying to make up for the awful situation.

Danny was ace!! Food was amazing, loved my steak and kidney pie and service was great by all. We’ll be back!

It also proposes multiple pastry pies that are rich and tasty, ranging from the classic steak & ale pie to more unique recipes. Some of them have been awarded as Gold Award from the Great British Pie Awards and trying them you really understand why! The best lamb shepherd’s pie I’ve ever had! The Windmill serves a perfectly seasoned, rich, and comforting dish with tender lamb and a golden, buttery mash. Absolutely delicious—highly recommend!

It’s a pub with the best pie! If you love pie and mash this place is for you. If I’m in London I go here for pie and mash it’s a simple dish but tastes good and is cooked well. Steak pie is what I usually go for but I’ve also tried the chicken and both just as good as each other. I would recommend this food. Pie is £25 which seems expensive for what it is but you are in Mayfair. Always very busy so you may struggle to get a table. Would I go back? Yes!

Chose Windmill based on rating as one of the best places for pies in this part of London. Disappointed, the pub is tired and has lost its atmosphere and the pies where average - not up to what I’ve had at past visits to London.

Pies were very nice, but maybe a little overpriced for the portion. They were tasty though and we all enjoyed our mains. For desert, I would not recommend the bread and putter pudding - it was tasteless and the custard was lumpy. We sent it back. The apple and pear crumble was good. The service was excellent - the staff were friendly and attentive.
