Wimborne Tandoori in East Dorset

Went here with 3 friends, all had different meals, all excellent. Service is second to none and the cleanliness is excellent. Was a Monday night so was quiet. Highly recommend.

We ordered a takeaway on a Friday evening, we collected it. When we opened the chicken tiki masala I had no idea how I could eat it. I have never seen this dish so red! totally artificial looking, we were hungry so tried a few mouthfuls. Sorry never again. Such a shame because we love to support local businesses. I took a photo as I was in shock.

Really nice restaurant with modern decor. All tables have pressed, cotton table cloths. Friendly, attentive staff. Tasty food with generous portions. Would definitely return if we were staying in Wimborne.

Good food, excellent staff, we really enjoyed our experience here. Would definately recommend. My first choice of wine I didn't like at all so they just swapped it out for me, with no extra charge which was very kind.

Excellent food and service especially king prawn puri the prices were good and I left a tip location was good with plenty of free parking 100 yds away after 6pm

Lovely restaurant. Food excellent and good size portions. Servers are brilliant, discreet but attentive. They catered for our dairy intolerence brilliantly. Chef copes with whatever you require as all cooked fresh for you. Our new favourite having just moved into the town.

This is the second time I have been to the Wimborne Tandoori restaurant, went with friends this time and we all enjoyed our meals. The portions were a good size and well cooked, all of us said we would definitely go back. Great meal selection and good service.

A great dinner. The food was absolutely amazing and the service impeccable. We had Chicken Korma and Chicken Kashmir which were delicious and everything in the restaurant was spotless.

Dreadful experience… This restaurant has questionable standards, mediocre food quality, warmed up by basic chefs. If you’re looking for high quality Indian food, this is not the place to go. Ordered a Cobra with the food and saw the owner top the pint with another draft beer as it was flat. I sent it back explaining I didn't want a blend of beers and ended up with a flat pint of Cobra. If they are prepared to behave like this in front of customers, what are they prepared to do in the kitchen. Ordered a Chicken Shashlik (my favourite dish). Was appalled how it was served. It consisted of oily fried sliced (not skewered) onions and peppers which had been re-fried swimming in oil with a few pieces of re-warmed up chicken tikka mixed in, with no tomatoes. It had not been traditionally prepared on a skewer and cooked from fresh in the tandoori as you would expect. When questioned over this disgusting offering, I was told, they cook everything first before they open and re-fry it in a pan for speed! This unacceptable, poor cheap standard of re-warming food up to order seems to carry on through all their dishes. The meat is tough and lacking in flavour. Would not recommend or go back. Restaurant did however in their defence give us a refund.

Delicious take away, chicken was excellent quality and it was all extremely tasty. I recommend the shashlik and the peswari curry.

Wimborne Tandoori recently catered for an outside event for 150 people we were hosting, the communication was superb, prices were great and the food was amazing. Would definitely recommend to anyone planning an event.

Just ordered and received a take away. Delivered in 30mins fresh hot and super tasty - delicious! Had an extra hot chicken Ceylon 🥵, chicken tikka Balti, mixed starter and sundries. My mouth is singing from the spices - perfect. Absolutely delicious, as usual. I’ve been a customer for 30years (Aside from a year spent in Brum), that should tell you everything you need to know. Would recommend.

We ordered Lamb tikka Pakora for starters. The meat tasted awful. For mains we ordered Tandoori Chicken, Lamb Biriyani and Chicken Naga. The Lamb Biryani had a couple of double fried eggs on top. Though the biryani was edible but the egg dressing was painful. The tandoori chicken was oily. Never had a tandoori of this kind. The Chicken Naga was also below expectations. One of the waiters was also unnecessarily talkative. Truly below expectations! Shall never return.

This is our go to Tandori in Wimborne .. probably eat there 2 or 3 times a year.. so tonight as we walked through the town my wife asked if she could quickly use the Toilet.. There reply was only if your eating.. the restaurant nearly empty.. so she wouldn’t have been in the way.. Well there loss that’s the last time we eat there or recommend them.. Just shows there true colours..

I was a little unsure about visiting based on the reviews but we had a lovely meal with the family! The food was delicious (lamb madras was outstanding!) and the staff were friendly and helpful - a great local Indian that I would definitely recommend to try!

We received a warm welcome to this very fine restaurant. The food was well cooked, particularly for the British palate, by chefs who obviously knew their business. The staff were attentive without being overbearing and good conversationalists on what was a quiet night. I would not hesitate to return there and came away both satisfied and delighted.

Tried for the first time last night, historically this place had had a good reputation, it was empty so I ordered a prawn madras, it was the most disgusting take away I have ever seen or tasted, a few very small prawns sat in a thin watery red liquid, no onions just a thin liquid and the bombay potatoes sat in the same filthy tasteless thin liquid. How can you make a madras tasteless??? WASTE OF MONEY!

We ordered take out by telephone because we had seen a recommendation in our holiday rental information pack and decided to give it a go.The menu had plenty of choice and there was free delivery offered, which seemed a nice gesture. It did not take long to arrive and when we shared the food it was utterly delicious. The hot curry was very spicy and just hitting the spot. I would totally recommend getting a take out from this Indian restaurant as it was top notch with generous portions.

We normally order from this place on the regular on the last nine or 10 times the food has been turning up I have a cold not the right order they like to double write on the Lids so you're getting ink all over your food you ring and try and make a complaint and all you get told is you should've answered your door he's been stood there 20 minutes I don't I don't see how it is my fault the delivery driver is a limp wristed c!!! and he cannot knock the door hard enough I have two dogs bearing in mind they did not bark you've just lost a customer I would advise to go elsewhere for your food!

The staff are the most rudest staff I have ever come across!! The food was 45mins late! So I waited in totally an hour an half in total for the food to be cold I order all the sauces and salads and received one pot of mint sauce and a bag of salad there was three mains orderd had orderd and paid for 4 popadoms to only get three! We revisited Wimborne Tandoori after a gap of many years. Everything was good - food, service and ambience - a safe choice but not an outstanding or special one.

We've recently started to visit the area on a regular basis and discovered The Wimborne Tandoori by accident. This was the best accident EVER!

Terrible food, tasteless slop, I've eaten in curry houses all over the country and this was shocking. Lamb tikka masala was sweet and horrible with four pieces of tiny meat for £12! My friends duck dish was tasteless and gloopy. Naan bread dry and virtually inedible. We complained about the quality of the food and were told 'that's your opinion!! SHOCKING, please don't give then you're custom.

Reconstituted chicken , swimming in grease, butter chicken like a bad korma, inedible and has to throw it away

The main restaurant seating area is probably where you want to be because sitting further away puts you in a busy strip where the food is brought through from the kitchen.

We cane here with our children whilst on holiday in the area. We uduallyvhavevindian every week when we are at home and my husband said this was the best he has ever had! So good that we came again a few days later!! Food delicious, staff very welcoming and attentive, the owner’s son was there the second time we visited and he was really friendly and chatty with our 4 year old and found him some paper to draw on. Really impressed and it’s a shame it’s so far away from home or else we would be regulars! Thank you!

Went for a curry on a friday night to our nearest restaurant that was full, so we tried a new one to us... what a mistake. The restaurant looks nice and the servers were pleasant. But the food was awful. Two dishes came out with a tomato sauce that was a bit like cambells tomato soup, No flavour at all. The large pieces of onion and vegetables that had been added tasted sour and not of onion at all. We were actually fearful of getting food poisoning as the taste was so bad, so we paid up and left the food. Food was quite expensive in comparison to nearby restaurants and An empty restaurant says it all!!!

Our first visit,but as there was a group in,it was very noisy and service poor.The food we had was good.Liked the hot towel ,mints and orange with the bill.A nice touch as a lot of places have cut back on these small extras.The decor and cleanliness was good though.Staff could have been more friendly,but as I mentioned there was a group in,so they were busier than normal probably.

We went for a meal with friends on Saturday. The food was very good but the reason for my low score was the service. It was very poor. The waiters were clearly rushed off their feet and just dumped the food on the table. The real low point was when we asked for the bill. We asked the waiter if they accepted American Express and was told 'No' and looked at us in disgust. He was so incredibly rude and ignorant during the whole process of paying it has really put us off ever going there again.

This is a top Indian restaurant. The food is fresh and tasty. The staff are friendly and helpful and the prices are reasonable.

We eat a lot of curry in lots of different restaurants and this place has to be the worst in terms of food quality we have ever tried. We ordered 4 different main courses from the house specialities but the 4 dishes that arrived all looked and tasted basically the same, chicken with tomato purée and so bland! And although they were all described as "medium" absolutely no spice, chilli or any real Indian flavour at all! When we questioned why there was no "kick" they said they don't use chilli in a "medium" dish. Difficult to imagine what a mild curry could possibly be like!And it is very expensive, £11.95 for a main dish is more than you would pay in central London, which I wouldn't mind if it was top notch food, but it isn't! If you want a decent Indian meal go somewhere else!

Went for a meal on Friday evening had booked for seven forty five. We were seated under huge fan very cold , did not ask to be moved did ruin meal. We ordered drinks staff were impatient for us to order. So we ordered poppadum's which arrived before drinks. While eating starters we were asked to order mains, I said we had not decided. The restaurant was not that busy it did seem like it was a race to finish. I ordered tandorri duck with salad which was ok very little salad. And boyfriend ordered curry and cheese and garlic nan bread which he enjoyed. Impressed they did bring slices of orange and hot hand towels. We paid at till as was quicker, I like to sit and not rush meal not possible there. I won't be rushing back on Friday night. May be better different night. Easy to book lovely tables.

I had a lovely meal here so did my husband but the only thing i have to say is that we had a starter for 2 people but when cam up there was 3 bits of chicken tikka, 1 bit of something else why dont they just put 4 bits of each on or 2 bits as we had to chop things in half to make it fair just seems odd to me but apart from that food lovely , drink very dear .

Food was good service was poor. When we arrived we sat to wait for our table, after 25 minutes some other people who had just arrived were seated. We were seated 35 minutes after the booked time. The staff were rushing to get us past the popadoms and serve the main course, which having been ordered while we were waiting for our table, was ready and getting cold.We will not be returning!

Went there tonight through Table Pouncer. When we arrived I said that we had booked through them and the guy said ok and ticked our names in the diary.The place was really cold around our legs and my wife kept her jacket over her legs the whole time.We were seated and then ignored for about ten minutes before our drink order was taken and we ordered poppadums at the same time. Drinks came fairly speedily. Another couple were seated next to us and had their drinks and poppadums before ours appeared. I had to ask again but they still took another five minutes.Our starters came before we had finished our poppadums and we were told to keep our dirty knives and forks for our starter!The starter and mains were really good.When I asked for the bill we were overlooked and the couple next to us asked for their bill and the bill and card machine appeared almost straight away and before ours. The restaurant was only half full and not very busy. At no time did anyone come and ask if everything was ok with the mealWhen we got the bill it was incorrect as the Table Pouncer deal was for half price starters and mains. I took the bill to the counter and explained the bill was wrong and the manager said I should have told them on arrival. I explained that I had and that they had deducted the cost of one main meal but not the starter. He begrudgingly took another five pounds off the bill.I'm dissapointed as this place has always been our go-to place if we want a local curry and I don't know if this treatment tonight was because we were using a TP offer? If it was, then they shouldn't be part of the scheme if they resent people saving £15 off the billWe didn't leave a gratuity

I thought Indian restaurants like this had died out years back. There were ten of us who all ordered something different and each dish was barely distinguishable by colour let alone taste. Yeuch. And it was expensive at £35 a head.

From the start of our short, and far from sweet, visit to the end we wished we had gone elsewhere. A pre - booked table was not ready, not to worry we thought and within a few minutes we were seated. The problems really started from here on in. The table was not suitable, I think even a small family of Sardines would have felt more comfortable at home in their can. No drinks order for 10 minutes, which we responded with ANOTHER polite request for a table to seat 5 adults which was only responded with a roll of the eyes and the lady walking off. As we caught the attention of the passing waiters busily laying tables we were repeatedly told to wait "2 more minutes". Alas the "2 minutes" never happened so after 30 mimutes we decided to leave. So as a final parting gesture the gentleman manning the reception/bar area felt it was fitting to shout at us that we didn't wait long enough and there would a table ready in just "2 more minutes".....

We booked a table for 5 a few days ago, arrived at the restaurant and after 10 minutes shown to a table that had been converted from 4 places to 5! As one of our party is a large size (18 stone+) we could not squeeze round the table so asked for a proper size of table. This was promised 3 or 4 times but having waited for 30 minutes and no solution we left and took our custom elsewhere. We then found a great Indian restaurant in Ringwood and will not return to Wimborne Tandoori.

I organised a trip for my Dad and 3 friends to go and have a curry, all booked 2 weeks prior. Sadly apron arrival we where shoe-horned into a table for 4. After requesting a new table for 20 minutes, we where promised one in "5 minutes". This never happened. We left disappointed and thirsty (it took 10 minutes to be offered a drink). Once again, somewhere else in Wimborne that I'll never be going back to.

Never had a bad meal from here, great food, nice and hot and just enough for two to share. They prepare really quickly and delivery or pick up works just fine. Easy off road parking is a bonus!

The service was very good, the staff were attentive and we were made to feel important.It was a Saturday night and we were a party of four and we had booked on 'table pouncer' We thought we would try this restaurant again as we have enjoyed it here in the past and end up with a smaller bill as a bonus.Unfortunately the meal was just very basic, standard "gloopy " fare and it was a typical Indian meal with no finesse or refined taste. Service great, food wasn't.

Over twenty years ago I had my very first vindaloo in this place, it was an education into indian food. Very fond memories and whenever I get a chance to come back to England I always have to come here for a decent curry.

This is not my local curry house but I do go quite often as regularly have a few drinks in Wimborne of a Friday evening and inevitably end up in here afterwards. Staff always seem very friendly and even happy to do stuff off menu when asked, if they have the ingredients. the currys are nice enough, nothing exceptional really but also nothing bad to report. Just all a bit Meh! Suppose Ive been spoilt with my local but better not mention it here though as not too far away (Corfe Mullen).

Having used this curry house on numerous occasions throughout the years , it seemed a puzzle to me why I haven't posted about it before..Well better late than never , just where do I begin , the food , the staff , the service are all great .The availability of dishes satisfies all levels of partakers in Indian Cuisine ..Full of infused favour..Gourmet Society members can also make use of their card here ..

Had a couple of takeaway meals from here recently - when we went to collect staff were fab, when delivered, took an ok amount of time for a takeaway and the food is excellent.

We have used the Wimborne Tandoori for over 20 years but recently mainly Take-Away which has always been very good and not overly priceyThis week we decided to visit the restaurant for a dine-in. It was early and quite empty. The staff were very welcoming and friendly and were offered a table that wasn’t squashed.Drinks orders and food orders were taken speedily and the drinks and starters arrived in good time. Having finished the starters we were asked whether we would like the main courses straight away or in a few minutes. A nice touch. The starters were very good but unfortunately the mains weren’t. The Lamb Bombay was ok but the Lamb Jalfrezi was not very good at all. The sauce was gloopy and bland and the lamb was almost non-existent. If we hadn’t had popadums and starters we would have left hungry.Overall the atmosphere was pleasant, better than the old layouts, the staff were very good but the food was not worth the money. The price has definitely had an increase and is now quite expensive, £10 for a main. Take-aways are better cooked and far better value. Maybe the chefs have changed or because it was early. It won’t stop us using Wimborne Tandoori for take-aways but we will have to think about visiting the restaurant again.

Arrived with a reservation at 7.30 on a Friday night. The restaurant was half full but none of the three staff acknowledged us for a good while; we were seated after about 5 minutes and then after quite a few more minutes had to ask for menus and drinks. Restaurant is smart and clean and the menu reads very well so we decided that despite the poor early service we would remain hopeful of a great meal. Our optimism was misplaced, lamb korai was bland and mostly onion; Chana masala was inedible it seemed to involve a tomato sauce and chickpeas plus an unidentifiable but artificial sweetener; sag paneer was spinach with a couple of cubes of cheese. So disappointing; we ate a little and left as fast as we could. Come on WT please do better! Say hello to your customers, smile, make eye contact then serve authentic food.

We went out to this restaurant and to say I was disappointed was an understatement. How could anyone make a curry taste more disgusting? We had 3 curries, 2 of which despite "being different" looked and tasted the same. The sauce was sweet and congealed...horrible! I will not be visiting again.

We always opt for this take away when visiting family in Wimborne. It is always great and we get a free delivery. The Chicken Tikka Bryani us my favourite, fragrant rice, big pieces of chicken and a lovely vegetable curry. Can also eat in.Never been disappointed.

We booked this restaurant through Table pouncer so had the discount which was great. However I think the menu is very good on price anyway so I would still pay full price.The food was amazing!! So very tasty and a large choice.Drinks are a little over priced like all restaurants in the wimborne area but not really an issue as like I said they all are in the area.The staff are very attentive and friendly. I cannot fault the service. The location is good too.Overall a brilliant restaurant and I cannot wait to return :-) 5*!!

We were told about this restaurant by someone helping organise an event we were attending. It was one of the few places open on a Sunday evening and offering something other than the usual chain pub food or Sunday roast (which we don't like anyway). Restaurant was spotless and service was efficient but not pushy. Only faults we could find was lack of tummy room between table and fixed seats and that coffee arrived before the dessert (although coffee did remain hot and was served with cream, not hot milk). We were full when we left but not feeling overstuffed. The 3 course/dish deal was good value and we used it to limit our choices but add a few extras.

It's a family favourite. We've used Wimborne Tandoori for over 25 years & have never been disappointed.The waiters are lovely. The food great & prices good value.We have family who visit from Birmingham who insist it's better than their local. The food was quite good... Once we got it! (which took 1hr and 40minutes!). No-one wanted to serve the table (we were well behaved and sober individuals!), or even make eye contact! Our custom appeared to be more of a hindrance than anything. We were issued a non-itemised bill which made checking it difficult. One of the waiters was very rude to my friend, when all she wanted to do was pay! We will never be going there again.
