Willows On The Roof in City of London, Westminster

This was an awful experience. We sat and had a lovely but over priced drink outside on the rooftop. When we came to pay the bill, it did not come despite requesting it. Eventually, my friend went inside to pay as we were in a hurry. The person serving accidentally made her pay the wrong table’s bill. He then couldn’t reverse it and asked her to pay her bill as well (hoping that he could reverse the other payment by the following day)! My friend was horrified but had no option but to pay. People were waiting and the server was getting impatient. Since 17th December my friend has left messages, emails etc and no one has called her back. She is still out of pocket. It is appalling treatment and we will never ever go back.

I booked a reservation through the website for a special occasion, specifically requesting the festive menu and inside seating or a dome. Despite receiving confirmation via email, we were placed outside in the cold with no sign of the festive menu. Disappointingly, the limited menu consisted mainly of fried items and burgers. The rooftop views were not impressive, this establishment, although attached to JLP, is run by a third party. This can be misleading for those expecting the high standards of the JLP experience. My recommendation would be to save your money and opt for a nicer dining venue.

Very poorly organised, wait time was so long even though it wasn't that busy! Did not think it was very clean and saw poor hygiene particularly with the food prep! Would not go again!

Absolute chaos. We booked the winter hut for the evening for 8 of us and prior to arriving we were asked to pre-book all of our food from the festive menu. The menu itself really wasn’t very clear on price or what we’d receive but we managed fine. We then arrived and were told at least 40% of our choices from the menu that we’d pre-ordered weren’t available. A “delivery” issue apparently so we were very understanding. However, then we weren’t given our drinks on arrival, we waited over an hour for our starters, the drinks ordering was all over the place, different people telling us different things, the “main” was literally just a burger on a plate - no fries no salad no side nothing and the pudding was still frozen inside. It was utter chaos and very uncomfortable. We then received the bill which included a 12.5% service charge which we declined. We’d originally thought the price was reasonable but honestly for the service we got it absolutely wasn’t. Baring in mind our starters took over an hour, by the time we’d finished our pudding it was closing time. There was one server who tried to accommodate as best as she could which we appreciated but when we’d paid the bill someone else opened the door and literally barked at us to get out. The whole evening was utterly unbelievable. Would avoid at all costs.

We booked the hut for a family of 8. We had to preorder from the festive menu but when we arrived most of it was unavailable. The service was complete chaos with supposed arrival drinks coming with the main course, instead of a selection of appetisers we were given nuts, olives and plates of fries. The main course burger was literally that....just a burger, no salad, no fries. We waited an hour and a half for food then they rushed us through the courses. At 10pm one of the waiters came and abruptly said "It's 10pm we are closing you have to leave". The drinks bill was completely wrong. I have given 2 stars as the tree decoration in the hut was lovely and festive, the food we had on the whole was tasty, although the banoffee pie pudding was not quite defrosted, the seemingly head waitress was very apologetic and helpful and offered us a 15% discount. It is very overpriced for a burger but perhaps not when you take into account the location. Definitely wouldn't visit again and it was a shame as this was the only time over the Christmas period our whole family could be together.

Booked a dome for dinner with my family. There was only one main course available on the menu to order and one starter. Three different waiters came to take our order and each time a dish was not available on the menu until we were informed by the third waiter that only one starter and one main course were available to order. It was a huge disappointment. Expected much more from the promotion on their website.

Avoid avoid avoid. Had ran out of items, poor choice and quality of food worse than Wetherspoons. Ruined our annual Xmas treat.

Booked a hut as a Christmas treat for the children. On arrival we were taken behind a curtain to a room with no windows, a sink in the corner and a heater. At best it was a well decorated cleaning cupboard and certainly not what was shown on the website. We were told there was no ravioli and no fries available to order which was problematic as a lot of the menu consists of burgers. We asked why we hadn’t been contacted to advise us of the limited menu and staff just shrugged and said the chef was being difficult as they apparently knew first thing in the morning and hadn’t let anyone know. When we booked three weeks previously the menu consisted of a choice of sharing platters, this had been changed and again we hadn’t been told. Staff denied this was the case and claimed the menu had always been a selection of overpriced “small plates.” Generally, staff were rude and unhelpful and couldn’t have cared less. Having travelled into London with the kids, as a party of nine, two weeks before Christmas, we were left with nowhere to eat. Would wholeheartedly recommend to anyone who enjoys a limited, over priced menu served in a caretakers cupboard by rude staff, but it definitely ruined a Christmas treat for our families.

Very disappointed. Booked for a special birthday treat and it was spoil by such a bad experience. The pod itself was lovely but waited 40 minutes for food, when it eventually arrived the fries were cold, the endive salad with blue cheese had no blue cheese or dressing, it was just lettuce. The courgette fries didn’t arrive until 20 minutes later. The vegan platter supposed to be for 2/3 people had enough carrots and cucumber for one, the fried courgette slices were cold and oily. The waiters were scruffy and one had dirty clothes on, hoodie and jogging bottoms !! The toilets are unisex !!! A definite no no. Broken soap dispenser and not very clean, even the walk down to the toilets was scruffy and dirty. Shocked for John Lewis although Willows is probably a franchise.

Had booked an outside dome. Very nice set up and quote toasty inside when cold outside. Ordered a bottle of prosecco and some chicken wings and chips. Chicken wings were really good, i do recommend! Prices are a bit high i think and the only downside is that it seemed there was only one (maybe two) waiters for the entire roof top!

Really disappointed. Had booked a lunch with my daughter for a day of Xmas shopping. We waited 50 minutes for our starter and then were reassured that our food was on its way. Another 20 minutes passed and once again we had to remind the staff that we were still waiting. We had now been at the restaurant for over one hour and had eaten one small bowl of olives and a few courgette chips. They did not charge us but it was a really disappointing visit. We will not be returning.
