A great little pub in the heart of London

Regular here at lunchtimes. Fantastic hospitality from Liliana and crew, a true hidden gem off the cobbles of Bow Lane. Special mention to the food and the lunchtime meal deal, absolutely superb!

Delicious, traditional English food. Typical pub atmosphere, very nice. The staff was super friendly and very quick.

Visited last week and, had bad experience, rude and unwelcoming staff. Slow service too. Only saving grace was that the food was pretty good.

Alleyway London grand tavern with great heritage & a place in history. Hidden in a narrow City of London alley this tavern 🍺 is intriguing. Superb alleyway drinking space with a long tavern interior in two halls. Bevel glazed square window panels with ornate wood coving stretch through to the second hall with an intensely decorative papered finish on the ceiling. Vintage feel decorative art, mirrors & fabulous wooden period fireplaces. The half moon 🌙 bar reaches through the tavernesque room, with a decorative wood back bar & quirky old age features like the 'Waitresses Only' inlaid wood top on the bar swing door. There's a fantastic, historic back story posted in the wall from the home of Lord Mayor's to the City Livalry Club, a hotel, Roman tiles & a ghost story for Saturday nights, although it's too noisy to hear ghostly movements. This is an interesting place of history with all the right features & character to preserve the heritage.

The food is totally delicious and the atmosphere is top. I am so happy about it cos we just ordered something random. The pie is a must try when you visit there. The waiter is enthusiastic to work and friendly. Totally happy to get a random chance to visit this place

Lovely pub, has become the work local for myself and my colleagues over the past couple of years. Friendly staff, enough seating/standing space even when busy. Heaters and a few tables outside which is rare in this part of London

If you are looking for an autentique British pub experience you need to come to this pub. Fantastic atmosphere and amazing food. On the top of this the service was 5*. Will be back for sure.

On a visit to London, I went to a fantastic pub. Epic atmosphere, super welcoming. I want to thank the chefs as the food was fantastic and delicious. The service from Adam and João was incredible, they were very attentive. We will definitely be back soon! I recommend!!!

Had a Christmas lunch party with friends of the industry and even if it was really busy given the time of the year the staff was amazing making sure we were having a great experience!

A lovely traditional pub with great atmosphere. Spend some time to read the articles on the walls around the bar and you’ll appreciate the significant history to the venue and area too. There’s a nice enough range of drinks on tap, prices are reasonable for the area and there’s a decently priced lunch menu. While located in a bit of an alleyway there’s a small amount of seating outside and with the friendly staff I’d certainly return.

We were in London to see the city in Christmas and we stopped in this Pub to rest and enjoy a little …and was a perfect choice. Delicious Food with a great taste, the best we eat in our trip. And for complete , a great service from two nice guys , Joao and Adam. When we go Back to London, we will return for sure

Went here for a pub lunch with colleagues. The food was delicious and the portion sizes were large - would recommend!

The pub is always so nice and clean, one of the most comfortable spots available. Tall curly haired bartender is especially amazing and always ready to help!

Lovely historic and picturesque venue in a great location ✅ Confusing internal layout matched by confusing service. Not clear where food is ordered .... at the table or at the bar ? .... At the bar the staff seemed nonchalant about taking our order (drinks and food x3) It was almost as though they wouldn't have bothered if I had not pressed the matter.🤔 The food (fish and chips X2 + toasted beef sandwich X2) when it came was hot ✅ but lacked the taste and trimmings finesse of similar in even a Wetherspoons.🫤 Also the range of beers on offer was very limited .... nothing of the exceptional which one could expect in a pub of apparent quality in such a location 😒

I booked in advance to have dinner for 5 people. We were unable to order as they were run out of most of the ítems in the menu.

Gorgeous art deco style pub tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the Bank area. Very warm and welcoming staff. A regular home-away-from-home type pub. Food was excellent and served promptly. Will definitely be revisiting!!!

Excellent lunch with a few old work colleagues, meet every year to talk rubbish and have a few drinks and lunch which is always a great experience, would recommend the venue to anyone who asks me

Malin made everything very seamless from food and drink pre-orders to being so accommodating at the event as well. Could not have asked for a better experience!

We had Good service & very tasty food. The Fish & Chips were very good as was the Lamb Shank pie. The Calamari starter was also very tasty. We will be back.

The Williamson's Tavern is reached down a smally alley off of Groveland Court Bow Lane. But don’t let it’s almost hidden location make you think it will be a quiet getaway! It was very busy with short visits by suited and booted city workers and by casual Londoners. Mummy and I shared a satisfyingly warm and filling fish pie. This was a real comfort food, with its rich cheesy mash oozing around small prawns and chunks of salmon. Serves with roasted carrots and other veg, it filled our tum tums with yum yum. I’m not sure it I was luck or unlucky not to come furry face to spooky face with Martha, a ghost whom police dogs bark at as they pass by!

Best pub in central London! I don’t really want to share this secret gem but I had to give credit to this place. The pub is in a quiet discrete alley way, it looks amazing and the service we received from Malin was just outstanding. She could easily be working at the Ritz. Honestly, she had a fantastic area reserved for my work do, and kept the platters coming, I never had to ask. Things just appeared at the perfect time, and my colleagues were over the moon. This will be my go to place from now on.

Me and my husband we spend one of the best time in our life lots of fun, nice music, but I have to give 10/10 to sea bass so tasty and rich flavours

I had my 50th birthday party there. It was truly amazing. Malin , Sabrina ant team looked after me and the party so well. The food was so tasty , on time and great presentation. Just would like to say a massive thank you for making my night so memorable.

We had a work event in the private room downstairs and we received an exceptional service. Malin was really helpful prior to and throughout our event. We had lunch and the food was incredibly tasty and well portioned. We then had drinks upstairs which was a nice atmosphere and not too crowded. The pub is quite large considering it's tucked away on a side street. Would highly recommend.

Steak ale pie was tasty, it was ready in around 15 minutes. We especially loved the potato puree. The atmosphere was great, we went after work and luckily found a table outside so it was not that crowded. Recommended

One of my fave old boozers in the city. Tou can keep your juice bars and gastrothings. I want mahoghany and brass, just like this place

Here for a business networking event. All pretty good, apart from the fact that it was limited mobile signal in the basement, not ideal if you are expecting calls.

Hidden pub down a side alley just off of Bow Lane. It does get very busy at lunch time. Nice ambience and friendly staff. Good for a quick stop on the way to visiting the City or St Paul's cathedral. Very central.

A hidden gem in the busy city center. Went here with my work colleagues and fortnightly it wasn't as crowded as other places around, at the start. It's kinda hidden position helps a lot in that. It did get crowded soon though, but the service was quick and happy. Good drink choices. Definitely can go back.

I've been drinking in the Williamsons on and off for 20 years now. It's always a decent pub and good for a pint. It's tucked down a little alleyway, and the pub has some great history to it, always worth taking foreign visitors to for the stories on the wall. Can get proper busy, which is a good sign!

We booked Martha’s Cellar Bar for our Christmas party and it was the perfect space for our group, well decorated! The food was lovely and the service was good - Malin and her team really looked after us!

Great authentic pub in the heart of the City of London. It's slighty hidden which makes it even more special. Strongly recommend.

Smells bad inside so we had to sit outside instead, where a group of city workers acted like idiots as though they wanted to start a fight.

Fabulous place that once used to be the home of Lord Mayor because thr Mansion House had been built for him in 18th century. The Tavern has a great traditional decor and lovely ambience. The food was great! I loved my fish and chips.

An atmospheric inn located down a passageway with iron gates at the end donated by King William & Mary but the pub was rebuilt in the 1930's.

This Nicholson's pub is hidden in a side street off a side street making it pleasantly quiet for the area. I've not tried the food but I've no reason to believe that it's different to the usual Nicholson's offerings. Its long thin shape can make finding seating a bit awkward but that's about the worst thing you can say about this place.

Booked the downstairs space (Martha's Bar) recently for a Quiz Night for 30+ people and was ideal - lots of space, private bar and great sounds (ideal for any private event really) - one member of staff catered for us all night and was comfortably enjoyed by all! Great food/snacks/drinks - same selections as the upstairs WIlliamson's offers too! Highly recommended

Pleasant atmosphere & good selection of beer

The difference between a large and a small fish and chips...2 battered fish vs 1! The brisket nachos are well worth an order, but beware the brisket comes cold with the cold salsa, sour cream and guacamole. Nice hidden spot with a buzzy bank clientèle.

Really good value food with the midweek lunch deal.

We are thankful for a place with simple food and easy to get drinks. The staff aren’t particularly outgoing, but are efficient. We’ve been here twice and would likely come back. We suggest the Mac and Cheese if you’re looking for something to break the monotony of sausages, fish and chips and meat pies.

Nice hidden away pub with good beer

Delightful tavern hidden in the backstreet just in front of Mansion House tube station. Great bar snacks too!

So this is an interesting pub. Up a small alleyway, with nothing to suggest it's there until you're upon it. There are two bar areas with one having more atmosphere than the other. There's a decent selection of ales and the usual gin suspects. Food is good. The bar snacks are particularly good value. Looks like some effort has gone on to staff training - see below. Much better experience since my last visit. --- One issue on my visit on a Tuesday evening was that the bar staff were overworked and service was slow. One lady behind the bar served for a good few minutes at one end of the bar without looking up and making eye contact to see who was waiting, so would suggest they invest in some staff training.

This has always been a favourite pub when I worked nearby, however it recently surpassed itself with the honesty and integrity of the team. I was here just over a week ago and my ring slipped off my finger without me noticing...thankfully Chris found it on the ground and they kept it safe for over a week until I was able to collect it. Most people would have pocketed it, so I'd like to say a huge thank you to Chris(!), and also to Sabrina for the incredible team you've built. Many thanks to you all and see you again!
