Both my husband and I visited here last weekend for the first time for breakfast - we both got the almost croissant and he got a coffee. The pastry was really good - texture and flavour was amazing. Lots of seating both indoors and out. Would definitely recommend!

Never been before and found this a very pleasant experience. Inside is clean and bright and next to an art exhibition. Outside is fine assuming the sun is shining. Coffee was great for us all. And we spent a pleasant 45 minutes there. One thing I noticed, that as a business the owners may wish to address- when putting out the pastries 🥐 the staff member used her hands (ungloved) to put them in the cabinet. 🤔

Coffee shops all over selling what they know best and with all the choices available sometimes one is spoiled for choice. The coffee itself can be a hit or a miss. This morning while out walking to appointments I went in past William Johnson at Custom Wharf at the Water of Leith where they have this huge big space with many outlets from offices and an artist gallery. Stopping for a coffee in their own Roastery an impressive business roasting their own coffee behind the scenes in a beautiful and very large roasting machine I glimpsed as they opened the door. Thirsty and in need of a quench I opted for a cola drink Fritzcola naturally sweetened which hot the mark. I do enjoy a savoury snack and I’d say for the first time in all the years I’ve ever had cheese toasties it was the first time I could actually sit there and appreciate the full cheesiness of said product. I could have sworn there were chillies in it but was assured it was the Ayrshire white cheddar only. Dam it was good and had I not bought the pistachio brownie also delicious I may have been tempted to have another one. Served on toasted sourdough bread it oozed out of any hole. They have the scope to serve any other choice but when you see every person around you eating the same thing you realise why they only sell the toastie, it really works. Only as an ex chef I would feel the need to up my game and serve more choice like a salad bar choice, however that said I see the end game here and it works. Many other cake choices are available and all looked delicious. The coffee itself I was served in my Americano was most certainly 100% Arabica smooth and the caffeine taste was perfect. This I have learned is the difference between packet ground coffee sold in bags that could be many weeks old This was freshly roasted then ground, a big difference not available in many outlets if at all any. William Johnson’s was a welcome coffee experience

Arrived on a very rainy day in Edinburgh and had a stop at Williams and Johnson waiting for the rain to stop. Coffee, cake and especially the music (Reggae) were perfect, the place was small and stylish, the service staff were very friendly.

We stopped here with our two kids for lunch and a coffee. Everything we tried was super tasty. The staff were really friendly and the courtyard was the perfect place to sit on a sunny day. I can’t recommend this place enough.

Obviously the coffee is amazing, clearly it's fresh since it's roasted there. The atmosphere is really good too - a really nice place to hang out.

I often head in before work just for a takeaway long black, but eye up the pastries/cakes etc. which always look A+, along with all of their other offerings. Located in a really cool space too. Would highly recommend.

Painfully slow service after not understanding the table service question. No skinned or semi skinned milk. Receipts have to be emailed. It’s OK and nice decor but that’s it.

This is one of the best coffee roasters in the UK, up there with Square Mile and Workshop. There’s a huge Probat and you can watch them at their craft while enjoying the freshly roasted end product. Highly recommend trying any cafe that uses Williams and Johnson beans around Edinburgh and beyond.

Some months ago I reviewed Filament. I'm afraid this review is going to be a carbon copy. A flat white served in a cup so small I can fit my hand round, and you're charged £2.70 for the pleasure. Ridiculous. The coffee tastes ok, but not amazing, and just isn't worth that amount of money. It makes me sad to see what coffee has become.

Only six Tripadvisor reviews so far for this hidden gem of a coffee shop tucked away in Custom Lane by The Shore in Leith. The coffee is superb. Find an excuse to go there!

You know you are in the most perfect of surroundings and a true passionate coffee producing location, when as can see in my pics you are sitting by a work of art, their grand coffee roasting machine itself! I hate the word Coffee Shop as reminds me of watery crap coffee, bland or burnt and neither is it the hipster thing that am too old for. This place is for anyone who likes a coffee that tantalises every taste bud and will have you grabbing a bag of their own freshly roasted variants every time in, I cant be the only one! This place is such a hidden gem as I cant believe how many people haven't yet found the source of where many coffee shops around the city source their beans from, or sell them, right here from the very roaster across the room from your seat! The place just oozes passion for what they do right down to the detailed cards regarding where they source their beans from, with no airs n graces from behind the counter for those that are just interested and don't know much about coffee, they are just cooly passionate and this comes through in every blend they produce. I love everything about this place and been singing its praises as a coffee lover everywhere that has an interest in such, as these guys need to be and no doubt will be huge in years to come. Already converted others ha!, now needed the bigger platform!, as independents such as these guys need the support for what they do and achieve with outstanding simplicity and quality.

Great little coffee shop with a variety of offerings. Most importantly, they roast their own beans so they are very fresh and they make the coffee appropriately strong so that you can really get the flavor

This is such a gorgeous little shop. Attached to an art gallery and a wee gift shop, these micro-roasters are coffee pros. Each cup is made with adoring care, the baristas are passionate, knowledgeable. This coffee alone is worth the trip down to Leith for international visitors. Well priced and delicious, what more could a coffee enthusiast ask for?

This place manages to effortlessly create a serene, peaceful but totally happening atmosphere. Coffee is great and there is also a small selection of amazing soft drinks. There is a selection of tasty bagel fillings, croissants and cakes on offer too. I've tried a few and they are all delicious. Fast becoming one of my happy places.
