Rocksalt Cafe in Edinburgh, City of

Very busy but often means it's good there. But because it was busy and a small space it was quickly a bit noisy but definitely worth it to eat something

We came here several times within a week and were always satisfied. The coffee was really good barista quality, the food was freshly prepared, and the prices were quite fair compared to other cafes. The Turkish touch is very pleasant, there's a good selection of vegetarian options, and something different than just pie, burgers, and fries.

Popped in for brunch around 1130hrs bustling wee cafe with a really great selection of food. Looks amazing and tasted great. Judging by how busy it is it's clearly a popular stop. Will defo be back to try some other food options.

The French toast was excellent

Very friendly stuff and amazing breakfast.

On one of our walks we happened to stumble on this lunch place. The staff is really friendly and the food was really good. I had the avocado toast with bacon, which was excellent. Lots of sweet snacks too

We ordered an amazing Turkish breakfast, and the shakshuka was a natural shakshuka, just like ours French toast tastes more like eggs The coffee is excellent I loved the place

Everything was super good, we ordered the Turkish breakfast, French toast, coffee which was all delicious especially the cappuccino. Everything was delicious. We ordered a Turkish breakfast, and the quantity was enough for two people. We checked with the cashier that it was halal, and the French toast and cappuccino were very delicious, and the vibe of the place was still nice.

It’s simple fare, perfectly acceptable food. The restaurant was cold

Asked for an ingredient to be taken off of dish and when the plate was brought to our table, the ingredient was still on the food. Even when it was 'removed' some was still remaining (they are lucky we didn't have an allergy). Don't bother getting poached eggs as they'll come hard boiled, bacon was unappealing as it was chewy and soggy. Plates were chipped and broken, one plate literally broke in half when the waiter picked it up to be taken away! Best part was the Bear latte art. Feels like a Tourist trap.

Lovely independent cafe/deli. Staff very friendly indeed. Wide choice of food. Breakfast/brunch available all day. Everything handmade and well presented. I had avocado and it was very tasted. Family had panninis which came with plenty of filling and sides. Wasn’t rushed. Definitely recommend.

Went this morning, food was a massive let down. Eggs Benedict, the toast was basically warm bread and had never seen a toaster, eggs weren’t runny at all they were fully hard in the middle. Bacon was mostly white fat. French toast was not French toast at all, tasted oily and advertised as having maple syrup which was nowhere to be seen.

I came to Edinburgh alone and stopped by this place before heading back. It was lunch time so there were quite a few people, but I was glad there was a place to sit. I had an iced Americano and an almond croissant. The server was also kind enough to ask if I needed anything else. The almond croissant had something like jam in it, so it was even more delicious~

I'll keep it short: Food was ok and beautifully presented - but it wasn't poached eggs... which is what you look forward to most with Eggs Benedict Unfortunately, the cappuccino was too liquid and too hot - perhaps just too touristy and oversized Service isn't really there except for ordering at the front counter. So all in all it was a unique visit

We ate avocado toast with menemen, panini with mozzarella, pastry, pecan pie and homemade baklava. Everything was delicious. The place is cute and spacious. Also, thank you for the interest and kindness of the operator.

Simple cafe. Tasty sourdough bread. Breakfast came fast and was hot. You order up and the front and tell them your table number then they bring out out to you.

My first time at RockSalt, I waited for 1hr on a plate of chips and a cheese and ham panini, when they arrived they were both cold.

Cheese Burger. Was good pattie was thick. The Panini was crunchy yet being not tough. Salted brownie was fudgy and good. Place was packed we are Jan1

Amazing food! Went two days in a row on our visit to Edinburgh - the brunch / breakfast is fantastic. They also do amazing cakes and hot drinks. Only slightly improvement is some of the staff aren’t very cheerful.

Food is delicious but customer service is appalling! We enjoyed breakfast and decided to return later to get a sweet treat we had eyed up. We were rudely asked to leave as there was some sort of dispute taking place in the kitchen, one member of staff behind the counter shouting into the kitchen and the other member of staff being held back. We only wanted a cake!!

The staff was very friendly and the food was perfekt for a brunch! Would eat here again!

RockSalt Cafe is a gem in Edinburgh! The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, perfect for a relaxing morning. The coffee is tremendous with some lovely coffee art, and the breakfast menu has great options, catering to all tastes (their ‘Eggs On The Shore’ (sic) is a must-try!). The staff were friendly and attentive - will definitely be back next time I’m in the area!

Stumbled into this place and wished I had discovered it sooner. Incredible breakfast of halloumi avocado toast. Would highly recommend. Eggs Benedict was excellent too. Service was fast. You will not be disappointed.

There is plenty of variety for breakfast and the portions are quite large. We tried menemen avocado toast and halloumi avocado toast. We had a hard time cutting the bread with a knife, but it tasted very good.

The caffè was not just perfect, but the most beautiful, I’ve ever seen. And the Highlander burger was perfect.

Lovely stop for a mid afternoon coffee and cake!

Ate in here about 3 times during my 10 day Scotland stay. The food is super fresh and super yummy. I do not eat cole slaw but i ate theirs! Great sandwich selection with vegetarian options and great homemade desserts! Definitely try their famous millionaire slice and grab and Irn Bru (non-alcoholic soda of Scotland) to wash it down. Bathrooms on site. Great staff. Will definitely be back here whenever I visit again.

I’ve been dining at Rocksalt for years now. The staff are always so accommodating and I find the venue is the best fresh food in town. Highly recommend their Avocado & Egg for brunch & their Chicken Cesar Wrap is also scrumptious.

The nicest restaurant in Edinburgh and even better they have three locations now! Amazing variety on the menu, and the staff are always lovely and accommodating. Couldn’t recommend this place enough! If you’re in Edinburgh it’s definitely worth going.

Best coffee to start the day 10/10 always

100% my favourite brunch spot!! I’ve been quite a few times now and it definitely gets better every visit, from the staff to the food. I love that they are not stingy with the portions. 10/10 recommend especially the chipotle panini and Avacado toast!!

Shocking service by the owner Reyhan Gul. Any complaint falls on deaf ears. Hygiene leaves a lot to be desired as well. The owners are not fit for purpose in anyway. I would avoid this place like the plague.

Got to agree with previous review the owners are absolute charlatans. Believe the have numerous business’s and properties in Edinburgh they rent out. The service they provide on these other services would make me want to avoid this place. Got to wonder if they even pay their tax’s etc. on all these businesses. Agree with previous I would avoid this place and all businesses by the Guls, I think one of them has previous for touching up an employee as well.

The perfect mix of relaxed atmosphere, good food,friendly staff and not overly trendy. Definitely a go-to for when you want a quick bite to eat

I had the worst food intoxication here, I ordered a fish and chips for lunch and was very sick for the rest of the day... Clearly the products were not fresh. The staff was nice but I would not risk to come back again

Great selection of breakfast and all kinds of dishes (pancakes, toasts,wraps,burgers, loaded fries). I had Scrambled Eggs and Toast with extra sausages, and the portions were huge! 4 large sourdough bread slices, loads of scrambled eggs (it’s like they used 3-4 eggs in there) and the sausages were so juicy too. Totally recommend! Would visit and try their other stuff👍🏼😃

Rocksalt Cafe offers very nice options for breakfast. The staff was really friendly and attentive. The service was very fast. I recommend the Turkish breakfast and pancake. The portions are very big and very tasty. Especially the menemen was great. A place you should definitely choose for breakfast when you are in Edinburgh.

stumbled into this place after back to back Fringe shows and so glad we did. I had the mezze platter and my partner had the vegan avocado and eggs on sourdough. Both were exceptional, fresh and delicious. Took brownies and baclava for the journey home. Will absolutely return to this little gem every time I visit Edinburgh in future.

Excellent nutella strawberry pancakes!

Not the greatest bfast place. Service is great but the food was disappointing… I ordered poached eggs on smoked salmon but the eggs were terribly cooked, almost fully boiled. My partner ordered the full bfast and the beans tasted a bit off.

This place is amazing! Made the perfect dry cappuccino. Food is TOP notch. They had something for everyone - from a gigantic plate of egg and toast, smoked salmon avocado toast, to one of the best fish and chips I’ve had on this trip, to an amazing brunch burger for the wee one. Glad we stopped in and found this place. Thank you Rocksalt.

Rocksalt es un pequeño café encantador en Jeffrey Street, que conecta la estación Waverley de Edimburgo en Market Street con el cruce de High Street y Canongate (la parte inferior de la Royal Mile). Es más espacioso y relajado que los restaurantes más arriba High Street, y los precios son más razonables también. El desayuno escocés completo que tuve fue delicioso. El pudín negro, haggis y bollo de patata eran especialmente deliciosos, el tocino y la salchicha eran excelentes, pero había más pan del que podía comer, abultando la comida, y las judías horneadas sabían bastante raro. El servicio era eficiente y el restaurante estaba decorado de forma atractiva, aunque los inodoros en la parte trasera estaban bastante desgastados, con un asiento de inodoro roto a la espera de reparación. Es un restaurante que volvería a usar con gusto, pero hay tanta elección en la zona que probablemente probaría otros antes de volver corriendo.

Rude staff and not very nice food

Not far from The Pleasance Courtyard. Short walk away from the burgers and chips. Don't get me wrong I love The Courtyard, the atmosphere etc. Go every year, it's a highlight of the year for me. All the tables were full in the Courtyard so my sister and myself decided to walk back towards the Waverly Train Station. We saw this cafe and walked in after looking at the menu. Best decision. Run by a family from Turkey with youthful and very kind and engaging staff. Please look at their menu and prices. I'm going back and recommending this Cafe to all.

Popped in for a quick bite on my way to the station. Lovely atmosphere, friendly efficient staff and prices a bargain. Ordered a simple baked potato with cheese and onion and was served a delicious plateful including tasty, fresh salads as well as very nice coffee.

Staff were unfriendly, verging on rude, and we did not feel welcome. The prices were fair and ingredients in the food seemed fresh, but lacking in flavour. I wouldn't recommend Rocksalt Cafe and I wouldn't return. Plenty of other places in the area.

Great restaurant and cafe. We were there several times within 5 days and everything tasted great. Large portions at a very good price-performance ratio. Pancakes, salads, wraps, paninis and also the cakes were always great. There is also delicious coffee there. We were drawn there again and again. So we can only recommend it.

The food was terrible. Undercooked egg, old tasting salmon, old, mushy salad. Very overpriced for what you get. The menu is huge, perhaps a reduction would help so they can focus on doing fewer dishes to a higher standard. Staff were quite inattentive

Amazing experience!! Always make sure to try lots of coffee places when we travel and this one for sure hits top of the list! The food is amazing too and great portions. Sami is a true artist of coffee making. What made the experience even better was the customer we met who seemed to know everyone at the restaurant and gave great advice! Sami even made a Babyccino which was truly appreciated!

I must say I was expecting the friendly staff many reviewers were applauding, but what met us was blank stares by staff that looked fed up. You have to both order and pay at the counter, although they do bring the food to the table. My coffee was forgotten as the couple that ordered after us got their coffee first. I had to go to the counter and ask for it, where a lady just said it's coming. She was at the time preparing food. No apology, no smile, just blank stare. My avokado and haloumi toast was said to contain pomegranate, but when I pointed out there were no seeds on the food, the man explained that they use pomegranate syrup. Shouldn't it then say syrup on the menu and not simply pomegranate? The food was good but grossly overpriced. I don't understand how this café has such a high rating. Would definitely not come again.

We had a really great visit to Rocksalt. They are dog friendly, the service, the choice of food and the portions are great. The coffee was also amazing, I got another one to go with a biscoff slice.

Rock Salt was an excellent little haven to stop in just off of the tourist crush in Edinburgh. It's set up very efficiently (you grab a menu and take a table, order up front) and while busy is still a little more mellow. The food it fantastic! I had a chipotle chicken sandwich - after 8 days in the UK, I was having cumin and jalapeno withdrawals that were totally sated. Everything else we got was excellent as well. Finally, prices and portions were very fair.

Went here everyday when on holiday in Edinburgh. Me and my daughter loved the Turkish breakfast! The staff is really nice and helpful and everything we tried on the menu was delicious. Next time I'm around I'll be back.
