Used this pub as a second choice for our pre-concert dinner after our pre-booked first choice let us down. A quick phone call was answered promptly by a most helpful lady (Hope) explaining our predicament. "Can you plese help us, we need a table for 2, asap, for just a main course and need to be finished within a short time frame." Hope was very happy to accommodate our needs and took the booking. We were more than impressed. A pub grub menu was presented within minutes of our arrival, as did our drinks. and the hot delicious food arrived in a timely manner. All I can say is a huge thanks to Hope and the team. They understood customer service, as well as providing hot delicious food at a competitive price. You will now be our first choice in future.

While staying in Norwich we came across this lovely friendly pub. A good variety of ales at sensible prices, great home cooked food and above all a lovely smiling welcome from all members of staff. After having a memorable lunch there earlier in the week we booked for Sunday Dinner and were delighted we did. Tasty, fresh, generous roasts with a large gravy boat. Nothing too much trouble, just great. If you are in the area don't miss this chance to be pampered.

First time we've visited the Wig & Pen. Amazing food with great service. Gererous portions. Reasonably priced and good range of beers. Highly recommend their Sunday roast. Just 200m from my hotel, The Maids Head, this glorious old style and unspoiled English Pub has the best service both for drinks and food. Coming from Oz I needed proper bitter, not todays styles which I refer to as fizzy lemonade. The 🍻 were excellent. Thank you. We ate while enjoying the RWC 🏈 on the TV. Booked this pub for family and friends meal the evening before my daughters wedding. We had a great night and Alex was the superb host. The food was great, it was one of those places that, you loved your own meal, but wanted to return and try what others had as theirs was fantastic too. Great place, highly recommended.

The roast (veggie, beef and chicken) was absolutely scrumptious, the staff are exceptionally friendly and lovely and the atmosphere is great. We will be back!

Called in for Sunday lunch, no booking, not to busy, v friendly meet and greet, limited menu but we are v good chicken and beef roast dinners, roast potatoes and Yorkshire puds a little over cooked but all tasty and huge portions, also ate the bramble and berry crumble which was a little strange with the crumble poured on top rather than cooked but it was really tasty and again a huge portion. Excellent local beers and all v reasonably priced. A very lunch, would revisit.

Excellent roast with very good veg cooked just right! Good beer - landlord recommended Big Sharpie, which we’d never heard of but which tasted like proper beer. Friendly & helpful staff especially as one of us is blind.

We were a group of twelve hungry tourists in search of some good nourishing food after our long coach trip. We had seen the Wig and Pen on our way out and so we descended on them at quite short notice but this proved no obstacle to the friendly personalities running this establishment. The range of dishes suited all tastes and the whole party left in good spirits and feeling satisfied. The Wig and Pen is near the River Wensum and a couple of hundred yards from Norwich Cathedral, so, well located. A big thanks to the staff for their kind attention.

Managed to catch them just before the kitchen closed. Ordered no problem or need to rush. Staff were friendly. Love that it’s pet friendly. Seems like a good local. Menu was a bit on the small side. Could do with some more side dishes etc. but the burger was 10/10. Could see it was hand made and it tasted Devine. Chips cooked to perfection. Simple pub grub but done so well.

This is a really nice little pub,in a lovely part of Norwich.We had Sunday lunch here and it was a very nice,tasty lunch.It cost £16 and you got plenty,we also had a dessert which was very nice.The pub sells a good variety of beers and has a lovely bar and eating area and is one of those pubs where you could spend the day in.The staff were lovely too.

We stopped off here for lunch. We got there at about opening time, and the lady who let us in, then later served us, was lovely- very friendly and attentive, exactly the kind of person every pub and restaurant needs! Nice, friendly pub in a pleasant location. Visited on Friday 9 July and sat in the outside area, mostly under cover. This was fine until the torrential rain started. Nothing we could do except have another beer! Would recommend.

Well what a great find the Wig and Pen was. Attentive service from friendly staff followed by a couple of really tasty tortilla wraps (chicken, chorizo and sweet chilli sauce and another of tuna, olives and sunblush tomatoes) with chips - a wonderful lunchtime snack...

Este es un entorno muy seguro pero divertido de Covid. Las mesas están al aire libre y el servicio es rápido y amable. El asado del domingo fue increíble, enorme, con muchas verduras y extremadamente sabroso. El bistec con tarta de cerveza también era genial. Era casero y rebosante de carne y sabor. A Great atmospheric pub with loads of tables at the front to enjoy. The Covid restrictions were in place and working well with quick friendly waitress service. The beer and wine was good and a good opportunity to chat with some locals from a distance.

Not a great range of ales. Shabby. Bar staff and the regulars more interested in talking about their personal lives and swearing than new customers. Good location but not inclusive.

One of the last redoubts of the traditional pub in central Norwich it seems. Hearty food and cheerful service in relaxed surroundings.

We stopped here for lunch recently. My husband was thrilled as they had haggis tatties and neeps on the menu. I enjoyed the salmon and prawns with noodles. The atmosphere was lovely and the staff very friendly and attentive. I would happily eat here again.

Fui con algunos amigos del gimnasio para la tercera comida de Navidad y cada uno ha estado en el Wig & Pen, que personifica la gran estima que tenemos en el restaurante. Había un gran ambiente allí. El personal fue fantástico y nos dio un gran servicio y era obvio que disfrutaron de nuestra compañía allí, en un grupo de 20 personas. Fueron muy complacientes con el tamaño del grupo grande. La comida era excelente y tienen una gran variedad de bebidas a un precio muy asequible.

Una excelente experiencia de principio a fin. El lugar era agradable y concurrido, a pesar de ser un lunes a mediodía (obviamente se corrió la voz). Saludo agradable y amigable. La comida fue excelente. Tome su expectativa de comida normal y aceptable en un pub y aumente cuatro o cinco muescas. Excelente. Los precios son una pizca por encima de la media, pero vale la pena. Los platos principales son alrededor de 13, con opciones de sándwich y papas fritas con opciones de cobertura para alrededor de 6. Todo maravilloso Muy impresionado. Buen equipo de trabajo!

As my favourite football team had a Sunday match me and my significant other decided to book for Sunday dinner. Well I can say we were not disappointed, wee booked ahead and on arrival friendly staff directed us to our table. We were quickly served with our drinks and our delicious roast dinners soon followed. A lovely pub a lovely atmosphere and we will return. Thank you the Wig and Pen.

The Wig and Pen is tucked away near the Cathedral but not near enough that you’d likely pass it if in the vicinity. We drove past and looking for somewhere for lunch drove back. There’s limited meter parking outside which might explain why it isn’t as busy as you might expect. Small inside but very friendly staff. Decent range of real ales including Adnams. Not the largest of menus but the food we had - pork tenderloin and duck with plum sauce and noodles extremely good so much so that unexpectedly staying another night I went back for more!

Mientras compraba en la ciudad necesitábamos una parada en boxes. No he estado aquí por años y había olvidado lo bueno que era. Un almuerzo encantador y soleado comiendo buena comida afuera, ¡no se puede superar! Tuve las gambas en salsa de chile y un plato de papas fritas y mi marido tenía el sandwich de queso y pepinillos. Los sándwiches son enormes y sabrosos. Mis gambas eran exuberantes y las patatas fritas bien.El único inconveniente era que la gente fumaba en las mesas cercanas. Odio esto. ¿Y siempre parece sucederme donde sea que me siento?Este es un pub tradicional y tiene un ambiente encantador. Definitivamente recomiendo

Alex and his team are really lovely and always very cheerful and friendly his food is really tasty. We went there this lunchtime and really enjoyed it. The staff are very helpful .

Popped in for a bite to eat as the place looked interesting. Sat outside at the front of the pub and enjoyed a superb sandwich (huge) and a couple of pints. The service was very good and the food delicious. I was expecting a snack but got a meal! Very Good.

Just had one of the best seafood paella I’ve ever had in a lovely pub.

Visited last night. Staff good service but food left a lot to be desired. Steak pie overcooked and a funny smell reported by diner, my sirloin very dry, gristly, chewy . I couldn't finish it, mentioned to the waitress who said she would mention it to the chef. No apology. No feedback.

The location is great, and the service was also very good (the waitress was very attentive and nice). The food on the other hand was just OK, the paella was dry and the steak and ale pie was good but not great by any means. There was nothing about the place that was particularly offensive, but nothing outstanding either. I likely wouldn’t go back.

So many things I could mention but as a summary. The waitress was very good. In fact she saved the day with her charm for the pub really. There were so many things they had run out of that everyone had to make compromises on their choice of food. How does a pub run out of bread when they could just pop to the supermarket? Other dishes also not available. Having said that what we did have was nice but expensive for the quality. There were also only 3 desserts available. My Mother fancied an Eton mess which we were told they had sold out of. To my mind it would of taken 5 minutes to gather the ingredients from the freezer & store cupboard. The drinks were also expensive & the lime & soda completely exhortionate at £2.60. I do understand we ate quite late at 4pm but they serve food until 6pm.

Having been to one decidedly average pub and one that stopped taking food orders at 6.45, we were delighted to find The Wig & Pen just a couple of hundred yards from our hotel.

Great service and food with a waiter who anticipated our needs... a rare thing in the pub food game. Will return, but strongly recommend the Venison and Mushroom casserole... and Sunday roasts!!

A lovely pub in the centre of Norwich that serves local ales and food.

Excellent lunchtime choices on offer, eg. pork fillet, roast venison, sea bream. All delivered quickly. Service from all staff was exceptionally good and very friendly. An excellent visit.

Tuvimos una comida fabulosa con la familia durante el fin de semana de Pascua. Habíamos reservado unos días antes y cuando llegamos, el clima era tan agradable que decidimos sentarnos afuera. Encantadora y amplia zona de estar al aire libre, personal muy amable y una gran selección de cervezas y sidra. Hay un pequeño aparcamiento en la parte trasera del pub. Todos estuvimos muy contentos con nuestras comidas (pescado y papas fritas, cordero marroquí, tagine y hamburguesa de pollo cajún), que fueron porciones muy generosas y muy buena relación calidad-precio. Definitivamente volveremos a visitar cuando estemos en la zona.

Vinimos aquí ayer 28 de abril nunca antes habíamos estado aquí para comer. Yo diría que es uno de los mejores asados que he tenido. Realmente sabroso y cocinado a la perfección, solo un pequeño crítico. Yo diría que no hay suficiente verduras en el plato que trajeron para 2. Habría comido por mi cuenta, pero valió la pena. El personal era muy atento y realmente encantador, debo decir que la comida y el lugar en general sin duda volveremos. Gracias por cuidarnos.

We found the food to be very nice and certainly plenty of it! The portions are very generous and came out hot and nicely presented. The service was very good, helpful and polite.

Encantadora cena de asado y gran Yorkshire. Una buena selección de cervezas y un precio razonable. Hicimos reservar con antelación. Sin duda volveremos.

He utilizado este pub en muchas ocasiones, tanto para beber como para comer. La visita más reciente fue el sábado 9 de febrero de 2019. Nos encontramos con tres amigos. Todos menos dos de nosotros comimos - excelente como siempre. Buena selección de cervezas de barril, y siempre bien cuidadas. El personal es amable y acogedor. Vale la pena una visita.

Met up with some friends at the Wig & Pen in Norwich. Despite living in Norwich for 6 years I had never been there and was not disappointed. Pub still has a traditional cosy pub feel with good beers and even better food. We all had lamb for dinner, which was the special of the week, and one of the best lamb dishes I have had in a long time. Service was very pleasant, no loud background music, so you could have a conversation and just a pleasant ambiance. Weill definitely be back.

Walked past this pub often and assumed it would be frequented by solicitors attending the nearby law courts. Decided to give it a try and was not disappointed. It’s very friendly, staff make you feel most welcome and although most of the space is given over to tables, there’s a small area near the bar where you can just chill with a pint and have a bite. I’m indebted to a previous reviewer for recommending the bacon, brie and chilli sauce sandwich. Excellent. Spent a happy hour in here waiting for Mrs T– a magistrate!

The whole experience was excellent. From the decor, welcome, staff, atmosphere, beer, price and food. It is very rare to find a pub at this level. It was four of us and the only negative was that the steak pie is best avoided for having way way too much salt and we are known for liking salt. Normally I would take a point from the rating but as everything else including our fish and the burger were so damn good I feel anything less than full marks would be wrong.

Great independent pub! Stopped in for a late lunch. We started with the mushroom bruschetta with a brandy cream sauce—wonderful. I had the steak and ale pie—delicious. My son had the venison sausage plate which he said was great. My wife had the nachos which were good.

Wig & Pen has always been one of my favourite go to places for Lunch in the City Centre and my most recent experience continues to affirm that belief. Me and a mate came for Lunch, were made to feel really welcome right away and orders were taken promptly and with a smile. Has to be said whenever I've been here staff have been friendly and chatty, as a customer you get a really good vibe about the place.

You are always made to feel welcome at the Wig and Pen, a nice city centre pub with plenty of ales to choose from. Never tried the food but it always looked good.

In need of a Sunday roast but it seems after 4pm most places shut up shop. Luckily not the Wig and Pen where not only were they still wanting to take our money but we got a friendly welcome from the excellent staff.

It had been 44 years since my last pint in this fine Norwich pub. It didn’t disappoint. A great trip down memory lane and nice to see it still thriving.

lovely pub for a drink but the meal was disappointing. prawns in the crayfish and prawn salad were not fresh but frozen (defrosted of course). they were bland, they had a strange taste, I was told this was from defrosting them in water quickly. there was no dressing for the salad just a slice of lime so over all very bland. shame as the pub and staff were so nice. other members of the party were happier with their meal.

Waited over an hour for somebody to take our food order, twice the waitress took orders for people who had been waiting less time than us. At one stage she said she would just put the order (of those who had only been waiting 15 minutes) through the till. 10 minutes later we spoke to the waitress who said she would let her know we were waiting, finally she arrived but took the order of those who had arrived after us.

Hadn't been here for many years but the welcome from staff was great and selection of beers outstanding. Food also looked terrific!
