Dined at White Tails several times during an 8 night stay at Cottage Lodge Hotel. Delicious food and excellent service provided by Ramsey, owner. Cosy ambiance. Love the salmon cannelloni starter, sea bass and pork loin main dishes, and lemon roulade dessert!

There’s a reason why Ramsey is known as the king of Brockenhurst. The food was exquisite, in particular the smoked salmon starter blew me away. Overall a great experience.

Outstanding food. The menu had a perfect range of dishes, of which I would happily choose meals that I would love. The sea bass, fillet steak, lamb and mushroom stroganoff were all great. Service was excellent. A certain ty to return.

Very enjoyable dinner, great service. The kind of place where they know their food and make you feel welcome. Some interesting and different flavours. Atmosphere-wise it can be a bit echoey and so maybe some more soft furnishings might help the vibe, but would definitely go back again.

We sat in a pub looking on trip adviser for a lovely restaurant for dinner on a romantic weekend away and came across this highly rated restaurant, so we booked. The restaurant certainly lived up to all the positive reviews - very friendly and welcoming , excellent food, appealing menu and reasonably priced (for the great quality) . Definitely come again if we are in the area. The only thing that could be improved could be the acoustics. The room decor was sparse and a lot of wood which meant the sound of all the neighbouring tables was enhanced and echoed around the room, preventing a cosy romantic ambiance , (but it meant you could have fun listening in on everyone else’s conversations 😂)

We were staying at the Cottage Lodge hotel and this restaurant is at the venue, although independently run. The food was excellent and well presented. Very friendly service. Not cheap but worth the money.

We have recently stayed at the Cottage Lodge Hotel and decided to have a meal at the White Tails. Our host, Ramsay was a kind man and really went out of his way to make our evening very enjoyable. The food was superb, my wife & I both had the steak, cooked perfectly! The cheeseboard was well thought through and we liked the fact that the produce was locally sourced. Thank you for a great evening, we will be back when we visit the area again.

We had booked to eat here on the first night of our two night stay in Brockenhurst as we were staying in the adjacent Hotel , we enjoyed a faultless meal and wine so much that we ate here on our second evening too having been fortunate enough to secure a table due to a cancellation . Small restaurant , menu and wine list but something for everyone , what a find !

We were staying at the Cottage Lodge Hotel next door and decided at the time of booking to arrange to eat here on our first night. We tried to book for the following night as well halfway through our meal as we were so impressed, but unsurprisingly, they were fully booked. Great dishes on the menu, and a friendly service throughout - we will make sure to come again next time we are in the area, and will be recommending to others!

We booked a visit to the restaurant on Tuesday and enjoyed it so much we booked again for the following night on our short break in Brockenhurst. The food was excellent, well presented and tasty. We had three courses each night and a bottle of wine, plus tea and coffee. Ramsey the host was very good, helpful and knowledgeable. We will visit when next in the New Forest.

My husband and I stayed at The Cottage Lodge Hotel for my birthday celebrations. White Tails Restaurant is independently run and is located in the hotel. What is amazing, this small restaurant is run by only two people, the Manager called Ramsey and his amazing chef called Matthew. Our meal was truly delicious with all products locally sourced. The service was excellent with time to relax before our next course. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening meal and would highly recommend this restaurant.

Went to Cottage Lodge as a surprise for my wife as it was her birthday and our wedding anniversary. White Tails is the restaurant there. The food was fantastic, as was the service. Only 4 for the atmosphere as we were the first people in the restaurant at 6.00pm, but it improved as more people turned up.

My husband and I ate at White Tails as we were staying at the hotel, and other restaurants in the area were booked out on the Saturday we were staying. We had a very disappointing experience - I'm really confused as to how this has ended up one of the top-rated restaurants in Brockenhurst. As other reviewers have mentioned, the decor isn't great, but I don't think this is the restaurant owners' fault; I imagine decisions over the interior come from the hotel. The food, however, should be entirely their responsibility. We each had the goat's cheese as a starter, then the mushroom stroganoff and the vegetable cakes as our mains. The goat's cheese was fine - but it was cooked only on top, still almost fridge-cold in the middle, and it was on a bed of entirely undressed rocket. My vegetable cakes were actively bad. They were largely cakes of mashed potato with an eclectic mix of possibly-frozen vegetables scattered throughout. They were flavourless and quite dry - the chilli sauce they were served with wasn't nearly enough to deal with the dryness. Again, they were served with a large side salad that was entirely undressed (why? A simple olive oil and vinegar dressing wouldn't have been hard). My husband had the wild mushroom stroganoff; this was reasonably nice, although we weren't sure how wild the mushrooms were. The rice wasn't prepared well; it was clumpy. Both the stroganoff and the vegetable cakes were served with parsnip crisps - these were okay, but not an obvious choice for either meal. For desserts, I had the roulade - perfectly pleasant - and my husband had the creme brulée. The brulée was not served hot, and the custard was splitting a little in parts. I wonder if some of the issues with this restaurant come from a lack of thought and understanding regarding vegetarian options. We overheard Ramsay talking to another pair of vegetarian diners and describing the prawn linguine and salmon cannelloni as vegetarian - I think very few vegetarians would concur. The quality of the food was especially bad considering the price point; we paid about £75 overall (and didn't drink wine or anything alcoholic). £15 for my vegetable cakes felt especially egregious. It's also odd that in a hotel that generally prides itself on local produce, the food here doesn't seem local in origin. We heard another couple here enquiring about local ciders, which White Tails doesn't serve. The cheese board also seems to have nothing local, in contrast to The Pig hotel restaurant which serves some lovely local cheeses. I will say that Ramsay's service was very pleasant, and he was very friendly and welcoming. However, I would not eat here again.

Great find. Not for kids or fussy eaters. Small, intimate venue providing a tasty menu at surprisingly affordable prices. Ideal for couples or small groups of friends, the menu is not extensive but has been put together to provide a capable chef a good palette with which to work. Ramsey, the host, looks after his customers with just the right touch. Superb dinner.

First time visiting the hotel and restaurant, it did not disappoint. The food was absolutely delicious, we can’t wait to visit again.

This was a real find. Brilliant food and service from Ramsay Hammad. Bit quiet at first, but soon got fuller as the evening wore on. Not the cheapest, but certainly not outrageously expensive either. Highly recommended.

This place is amazing, Ramsey is such a lovely guy so very attentive, with only him and a chef, they have alot to do but still manage to take time and chat to you, would highly reccomend visiting for amazing food and Ramsey.

An absolutely beautiful meal in lovely surroundings. The food was fresh and delicious. We had steak and lamb, both of which were full of flavour and cooked to perfection! The creme brulee was the best I've had and the roulade as light as a feather. I will definitely visit again when I visit the New Forrest

We had a wonderful meal here on our wedding anniversary. The food was delicious all homemade. The service was amazing Ramsey was the best host, very friendly and attentive to everyone who was dining there. I would definitely recommend and if we come back to Brockenhurst we will certainly dine here again.

Absolutely incredible food, perfectly cooked. Well hosted with attentive knowledgeable staff. Great ambience, beautiful wine selection, cannot fault it at all. Well worth a visit, especially if you’ve walked up an appetite on Ornamental Drive!

Visited this restaurant for dinner last week for the first time. Lovely, old building with low ceilings, so be careful if you're tall. Booked for 6.00pm and were the only ones there for a while. It was pretty cold in the restaurant even though the radiators were on. Unfortunately, this made it a bit uncomfortable for my elderly mother in law. Service was good as was the food. Portions were on the small side, but that meant we had enough room for desert. Homemade cheesecake was lovely. Will visit again when next in Dorset.

Superb food and exceptional service from White Tails this evening. We had a 3 course meal for my birthday treat. Everything was cooked to perfection and presented beautifully. This little gem of a restaurant really does go that extra mile with the quality of the food and the standard of hospitality to leave you wanting to go back for more. Absolutely delicious meal. We've tried almost all the eateries in Brockenhurst...this restaurant is the best. Cannot speak highly enough.

Really beautiful food. We had the scotch egg, the stroganoff (with beef), and the creme brulee and lemon roulade. Everything was super fresh and skilfully cooked, the portions exactly right. We also loved the atmosphere - from decor to music, and the host was very friendly and gave us recommendations. We felt very safe with regards to covid measures, and cannot wait to return and taste more of the menu! Edit: visited again yesterday to try both favourites and new (to us) dishes. Had the scotch egg and stroganoff again, as well as the pork loin main and goat's cheese starter. We also tried the cheesecake and bakewell tart. Eveything was simply exquisite, and Ramsey is always an excellent host. We hope to return again soon!

Starters, Mains & Drinks super quick out the kitchen taste was okay, wanted more drinks in between but only one person on the floor very poor attentiveness and could never get attention of the waiter as busy with all other tables, one extra person on the floor would have been perfect otherwise! Visited here whilst staying in the adjacent hotel this week.Excellent food in a fabulous location. Owner personally runs this restaurant with a passion for food and exemplary service. Chef is first class. Many diners were clearly repeat customers which says it all. Don’t forget to book ahead as it fills up quickly!

We arrived for our meal on a Saturday eve, but were greeted with ‘you do not have a reservation, all my customers are here.’ Showed the gentleman our confirmation of the booking and it was then acknowledged that he had made a mistake to process it, but there was no actual apology at that time. We were then informed that they have no space for us but we could sit in an unprepared side room (on our own). Caught off guard we went in and sat down. We were then left alone for a fair few minutes, wondering what to do. The gentleman reappeared with menus and a wine list, plonked them down and quickly said he had to deal with the people already seated and still did not apologise about his massive mistake. There was no ‘I’m very sorry please let me get you a drink’ or ‘ I will be with you in a moment to see what we can sort out.’ Sitting there absolutely furious as to what was happening, we decided to leave. I text to say how let down we felt, with his reply being- “since I had people who were booked before you and arrived at the same time as you, I had to serve them first, apologies for my mistake”. This was the only apology! At eight o’clock at night, it left us unable to go anywhere for what was intended to be a special occasion dinner. Really not good enough at all!

Highly Recommended! Visited not once but twice on our recent visit to Brockenhurst. Simply the best food, ambience and service I’ve had for a long while. There is a real pride in execution here and it shows the moment you walk through the door. The menu will have something for everyone. I recommend the steak and also the stroganoff. For starters the delicate Salmon Canneloni is sublime! The king prawn linguine was also tasty and special! You will love this restaurant and the genial host Ramsay who was a lovely chap. I love restaurants where you matter and conversation with Ramsay was enjoyable and relaxed. Thank you Sir!

We had a fantastic meal at White Tails last Friday. The restaurant setting is really nice and inviting, and the staff are very friendly. As a table of three, we enjoyed the soup of the day, glazed goats cheese and scotch eggs for starters, and lamb shank and pork loin for main. We had lemon meringue and creme brulee for dessert. All dishes were cooked and presented perfectly. We would 100% recommend this restaurant to anyone staying in the New Forest area.

An incredibly well thought out menu that was clearly cooked and served with well-deserved pride. This is definitely a dining experience that is not to be missed, so make sure you book well in advance! The rioja was exceptionally good, but the Scotch Egg really was the star of the show.

We've had our dinner in Whitetails every time we've stayed at the Cottage Lodge hotel. Ramsey is a great host and the food is delicious. Eight dinners so far and it has always been good. Highly recommended.

We stayed at the Cottage Lodge Hotel and dined at the Whitetails Restaurant twice. All I can say is it was incredible. The staff were attentive, funny, informative and made great recommendations from the menu. The food was amazing. We went to James Martin’s Kitchen restaurant and it wasn’t anything on the Whitetails. Thoroughly recommend this restaurant if you’re staying in The New Forest and looking for good food. Thank you. The O’Neill’s and Frasers.

We had been looking forward to the food all week but were bowled over by the overall experience as well as the food. Ramsay is a brilliant host and the whole atmosphere is welcoming and unpretentious. We have both been spoilt over the years but the meal was up at the top. We had whitebait and goats cheese, then sea bass and stroganoff finishing with lemon roulade and Icecream. The website is very helpful because it has pictures of the dishes to help you decide what to choose though there were lots of other dishes we would have liked if I had had the foresight to book twice. I am not surprised it is so popular that it is booked up for most of August. The covid precautions were excellent too despite no longer being legally required

Booked into the restaurant on our first night at the hotel as we knew we’d be tired and didn’t want to have to “think” where to eatWhat a disservice to Ramsey the owner and his chef that would be. The entire restaurant is run and manned by these two gents from head to toeThe menu options were perfect for me, and I could have eaten every starter, main and dessert given the time.The food was just amazing. My wife ordered the glazed goats cheese starter and I the king prawn linguine. We were both very impressed and I could have easily eaten the linguine as a larger portion for my main (you can ask for this). However, my main was lip smacking gorgeous. I chose the lamb shank and my wife had the mushroom stroganoff. I’m not a huge fan of lamb (sorry mum, your fault) , but because of this, I’ve never cooked it myself, so thought I’d try it as somebody professional was cooking it for me. Both mains were delicious, and I had the broccoli as a side to accompany it. Nice and al dente as I like it. I also had a little of my wife’s stroganoff which was stunning.Finally, we finished it with a cheese board each. The wine selection was also great with something for everyone.Ramsey is engaging, energetic and fun to chat with, who is passionate about his restaurant and food, rightly so. To sum up….. it was so good, we asked to rebook. Ramsey informed us he was full but for an early sitting two days later. We made our apologies to our original booking, and rebooked with Whitetails and Ramsey to exploit his only availability.My wife chose the same dishes as before as she enjoyed them so much, where as I chose the scotch egg starter and the steak and fries for main. I’m not a huge fan of fries and I enjoyed the mash potato that accompanied the lamb shank thoroughly. I mentioned to Ramsey I wish I’d had this with the steak. I was told if id asked….he’d have swapped the potato options. You live and learn. I would estimate over half the restaurant chose the lamb shank that eveningSo, learn I have. We have rebooked the hotel and restaurant for September. And I’ll be trying something new, but I think the mash potato will take some beating for me not to choose it with a different main.See you soon chaps. Look forward to eating with you again. Considering just two people run this restaurant, you do better job of other restaurants we’ve eaten with infinitely more staff

Ramsey the owner was outstanding, first class friendly service, the food was superb.The pea and mint soup was delicious, as were the fish cakes. Temperatures were taken on arrival very COVID secure which was good to see. Make sure you park roadsideAnd not in the car park unless you are a resident.

Welcomed by the lovely Ramsey to this fine & elegant restaurant . Would highly recommend , the atmosphere and service is spot on . Started with the soft yolk scotch egg , i had the Sirloin Steak and my wife had the sea bass , for dessert we had lemon meringue roulade and my wife had salted caramel cheesecake . Every course was to die for . This restaurant is a must .

A small owner-operated restaurant offering beautifully cooked favourites, including the best fish cakes I've ever eaten. Definitely worth a visit but pre-booking is a must.

Welcomed in by Ramsey who is a fantastic Maître d'hôtel . very welcoming setting we decided to have the scotch eggs to start followed by the pork and sirloin steak finished by cheese cake . Great food great service would recommend to anyone.

Fantastic service and very well priced. The restaurant is small, very cosy, so tastefully decorated and the music was well suited to the mood. Ramsey, the owner single handedly manages to provide incredible personalised attention to each table. Always smiling and making sure that we have enough drinks etc. We had the cheesecake for dessert which was delicious. Thank you for such a lovely evening.

Strongly recommend White Tails! The food was great and the place is run with obvious care and passion. I really enjoyed my food, there were 2 delicious-sounding vegetarian options in the starters and in the mains. I had the goats cheese starter and the mushroom stroganoff main and both were delicious. Also loved the cheesecake for dessert.

Excellent food and service from Ramsey was 1st class. The man is obviously very passionate about his business. Will definitely return again for some more great food.

First of all, food was 5 stars! However we felt rushed into choosing our main when we just wanted to start with a starter and then decide based on that. The owner said the restaurant was fully booked, hence everything had to be ordered at once. There were only about 6 others in the restaurant the whole time we were there. We felt very pressured to order the mains as he kept coming back to ask. For this reason I have to give 3 stars as I felt uncomfortable and as if I was offending the owner.

We had a warm welcome from Ramsey and great service. We dined on soup, stroganoff, prawn linguine and lamb shank. My linguine was lovely and I can recommend the lamb shank that fell off the bone - the gravy/sauce was so tasty. We had cheese and creme brulee to follow. The creme brulee let the side down slightly as it was cold (possibly from freezer). Could also have done with more cream in my liqueur coffee, but I did have my creme brulee. Usually have a liqueur coffee instead of dessert for the cream! A lovely stylish place to eat and I can definitely recommend the lamb shank.

We were staying at Cottage Lodge Hotel so trying the food at the restaurant was a no brainer, great choice and amazing quality at very good prices. Will be back next time we are in the NF!

We had the pleasure of dining at White Tails this evening and the experience was a joy from start to finish. Ramsey was super friendly and helpful. The restaurant is run by himself and the chef, so it’s a very personal experience. We went for starters, mains, the cheese board and dessert, accompanied by white and red wines. The overall experience was excellent, the quality of the food was fantastic and we will definitely be dining here again on our next visit to the New Forest. 5 stars all round!

Booked to eat here based on the numerous great reviews. Staying in Brockenhurst, so only a short walk to the restaurant. Met by Ramsey, all covid rules followed and tables well spaced, was quite busy and as mentioned in other posts, he does all the service himself, so it can be slow at times.Wife had starter of Goat's Cheese, which she said was lovely. I had the Prawn Linguine, which was nice, but I was disappointed to find one prawn not looking fully cooked and with the thread left in. I left this on the plate, but nothing was said, down to me to say something I suppose.Both had the Lamb Shanks for mains and felt it was lacking something. Nice meat, very tender, but felt the seasoning was a trifle lacking. The mash was quite ordinary too.Desserts were very nice. Wine was lovely.Never like leaving a poor review, but can only go on the meal etc. Would be more than willing to give White Tails another go when next in the restaurant, especially as the owner seems such a nice guy.

A fabulous dining experience! Ramsey personally ensured our evening was a success with excellent service, delicious food and wines to accompany. The prices were comparatively very reasonable considering the excellent quality and all expectations were met with regard to covid requirements. Well done Whitetails! We went just before Christmas. There were a few decorations and a tree, but somehow the place still seemed a bit stark - lots of rough wood and hard surfaces.Ramsay is lovely, but there’s only one of him and it’s not enough. We were asked to arrive a quarter of an hour later than our chosen time. We were left standing for quite a while in the lobby and had to wait ages for our wine. The food was fine, good-sized portions. However, one of us had the venison, which we’d had at another local restaurant a couple of weeks before and it was not nearly as tender as that and no sign of pink (we weren’t asked). Overall, it was good, but we thought expensive for what it was. The bill was not much less than the restaurant we had previously been to and the experience was nowhere near as special.

Fantastic evening celebrating my husbands 60th birthday. The food and service was brilliant we highly recommend this restaurant

Dined at this restaurant on a couple of nights whilst staying at the Cottage lodge hotel. This restaurant is absolutely amazing. The owner, Ramsey, could not be more courteous, helpful and polite. Would have no hesitation in returning to this restaurant, a real jewel in the middle of The New Forest.

We enjoyed 2 evening meals, the food was wonderful and the friendly service of the owner/waiter Ramsey added to both pleasant evenings. The restaurant was Covid safe.

Very nice dinner out. Food was really excellent. Service very slightly slow when we first arrived but there is only 1 person waiting on the whole restaurant but once everyone settled in was fine. Lovely furniture! Quite a quiet restaurant. But overall v good and I would return

We picked white tails based on the trip adviser reviews and we really weren't disappointed! The food was tasty, nicely presented and reasonably priced. Excellent service from the friendly waiter. We particular enjoyed being able to pick which table we ate at having recently had a few meals ruined by noisy tables nearby! I would highly recommend for anyone staying in the area (we were based in sway and it was a 10 min drive out - well worth it!)

Food was amazing, service was amazing and good price for how good the experience was. Presentation of the food was just great.
