White Rock Beefeater in Torbay

Visited with two friends. Date of visit 02/03/25. Overpriced for what you are served. My friend's meal was meagre for the price, and it looked pretty unappetising. Very little meat on the roast dinner, and other roast dinner trimmings, available at local carverys, come at an additional charge at The Beefeater. Other food served during visit was all pretty mediocre and uninspiring. There was a distinct lack of atmosphere at the restaurant, maybe due to very few other patrons dining. There are far better places to eat in The Bay, and for a lower price tag. No return visit planned.

We had a nice meal here but to honest the waitress made it! Emma was brilliant! Lovely, chatty &not too much and so personable. Food was pretty good - good value for money.

Plenty of good tasty food for breakfast. Staff pleasant, helpful & refill everything as soon as they can. Tables are cleared as soon as possible. Enjoyable breakfast & well worth the money

Food was lovely, quick service, reasonably priced. Staff were attentive; had to take a call during my meal which lasted a long time and the staff member offered to reheat/re-serve my food, was very approachable.

Our server Charlotte couldn’t do enough for us - I’m very allergic to prawns and my partner loves them! But she made sure the kitchen kept my food completely separate. Even though the restaurant was very busy she was still attentive and made sure we had everything we needed

If you're going to a Beefeater then you should have a reasonable idea of what to expect. It's not going to be a fine dining experience - that's not what they do. They set out to provide you with a family restaurant with decent food at a reasonable price - and judged against that objective, they do just fine. I can't eat red meat, so I had pretty major reservations about eating there, but there was enough on the menu for me to get by perfectly well. The staff are very obliging, and you can get Stella on draft. I was happy. Let's judge them on the basis of how well they achieve what they set out to do - I make that five stars.

Great food at a reasonable price. We were served by a young lady called Emma, she was so attentive and kind. Really made our experience better. Thank you!

We had a family birthday meal the service was good the staff were very professional the food was OK the biggest let down for me was the cost seemed high and portion size was quite small

We visited here for breakfast when staying with family. The selection was just perfect and good quality. Lovely selection of Tea's and nice Coffee. A bonus is a commercial toaster that works for once without having to put the bread through twice. There was one lady member of staff when we visited and she was extremely efficient and well organised. Very pleasant, will return.

We had lunch at Paignton beefeater and it was very good, we were served by Peter and he was excellent, definitely a credit to the beefeater. Well done!

Thought i would order Steak Diane and they told me they had no sauce so I asked if I could have pepper corn sauce instead they said no unless I paid for it .

Great breakfast. Only criticism for me personally they don't have fried potatoes. Hash browns were good but I do like a fried potato. Food very good.

I often eat here for a catch up meeting with friends. Last time two of us had the lasagne which comes with flatbread. The waiter obligingly said he could swop it for chips for us as neither of us wanted it served that way. When we asked for the same on this visit the waiter said he couldn't do it as it would mean he would get in loads of trouble. Gone are the days when flexibility to meet the needs of the customer counts. I did pay for an additional side order of chips which were very good but have dropped them a star on service.

Popped in for a meal just visiting Paignton very nice atmosphere and very attentive and friendly staff, and the meals were very good would recommend.

We had a lovely dining experience on the night of Saturday the 26th of October 2024. All staff were very friendly but special mention goes to Emma who went above and beyond to ensure we enjoyed our meal. She is a real star.

Tiny portions. Not value for money. Steak was like leather. Steak and ale pie had hardly any filling. Tablespoon of mash and the same with peas. Nearly £17. Very long wait for crap. Will def not go there again. Waste of money.

no one on entrance desk,we found 2 seats and then I looked for the menu,we were asked to go on a table 6 ft away and they saw my wife was disabled,and said okay to stay there. 25 minutes wait for carvery,beef was like end of joint, carrots were only warm, gravy was warm, potatoes were hot only a few warmed peas. we had no approach from the staff,to see if everything was ok. went to pay,and the lady asked if ok and I said not really,and she got the manager, who said that 25mins was exceptable to wait,I just replied Really. he opligzed for food only being warm,but they were busy,it was only half full at 1.00pm. he did give me 20 percent off the bill,and hopes it would go some way,to make it better,and would speak to the staff🤔

The mixed grill was very nice but my partners butternut squash spinich ricotta l wasn't so nice barely any butternut squash in it and what was in there was hard and not edible. Manager just tried to offer a free pudding, take a drink off the bill or call the police. After a debate with the manager and the waiter we didn't pay for the butternut squash meal. Won't be returning!!!

Our waitress Aimee W was very attentive, polite and helpful. The Sunday roast was amazing with nice hot, fresh food.

We had a lovely evening here after 3 hours journey. Staff were very polite, friendly and hard working - especially Jenna. She explained how the meal deal works and looked after us from beginning till the end. Another young lady staff who served us also very polite. Everyone has a smile on their face, no huffing and puffing. They made our evening so relaxing. Thank you very much. Oh! Food were very nice too. Hot and delicious. A+++ 👍🥰👍🥰

Served quickly by friendly staff this weekend. Very attentive and prompt. Quite lively in the evening. Advise you to book. Bar area was busy and had a lot of kids running around playing on the machines. But otherwise all good

Stayed in the Premier Inn for one night , work , so I booked a meal at the white rock , great service . Very efficient staff were very polite from start to finish , Megan dealt with my order , breaded mushrooms and a baconeater burger . Food was served piping hot and plentiful, 5 star service , well done .

We were served by Dan who went above and beyond in looking after us. One of our group needed to customise their food order due to intolerances to certain foods. He was so helpful and nothing was too much trouble despite being kept extremely busy. Rest of the staff also really pleasant.

We managed to book a table for 6 just a couple of hours before we wanted to eat. The car park is a decent size with a fair number of disabled spaces. When we turned up, they had missed that we had specified we had a wheelchair user with us but they could not have done more to accommodate us all. Access wise, it was perfect. The dining area is all on the ground floor with level access. There is enough room between tables for my daughter to sit in her wheelchair at the table without feeling like she was in the way of people getting passed. The accessible toilet is also on the ground floor and is spacious enough for a wheelchair and carer. The food was lovely, cheap and cheerful as you would expect from a Beefeater, and the waiter we had was brilliant. Overall, a great experience and would recommend.

Unfortunately the food is often over cooked and dry. Chef needs to understand temperatures. Breakfast is the best as well cooked but overall a disappointment. Serving staff polite. Don't think they would be busy if wasn't linked to the hotel next door.

We were looking for abeefeater on holiday in devon,and came across white rock..friendly staff,busy sunday eve,as holiday season,yet were seated and served in good time..lovely fresh starter n mains,generous portions.

Visited this evening ,we were large table of 11 various ages from 6 to 88. Service was excellent ,friendly and efficient . Our waitress Emma could not have been more helpful and positive despite a busy restaurant . Food was good,on time and hot ,for our requirements . Enough choice for everyone . Thanks Emma !

Yep ! All good. Food was fab and arrived hot and very fast. Waitress was excellent and very user friendly. Pudding was great. Outstanding service all round. Will definitely go again. One other thing they do a 12.00 -17.00 cheap meal service (check that) meals are a lot cheaper if your on a budget.

When I phoned the robot said no tables available, also online booking said booked, but when we went there, it was virtually empty. Food was OK and the prices where not too bad and we did have a voucher, so a good evening. Fast forward 12 months and we've just gone there again. No problem booking this time online, and the place was near empty when we arrived. However after we ordered we was told that many of the items were not available. Why aren't the waitresses told of the stock levels? We changed our order and then waited ages and ages for it to be served. When it finally arrived the portion sizes were very small. Its a good job we had a voucher again otherwise it would be far too expensive for what you get. Went back again for the third year, once again no Sunday lunches available at 3pm. Service quite slow considering the place was pretty empty.

Probably the worst quality most expensive food I have ever had the misfortune to encounter. Over my working life I have eaten at dozens of restaurants associated with premier inn, this ranks as one of the worst. Small, poor, tasteless and boring. Will never return.

Visited here evening of 24/07/24 around 7pm & won’t be returning. Save your money, you’ll be happier at McDonald’s down the road. The food doesn’t match the price and is an embarrassment to the bay. Ordered a lasagne that came out as soup with sloppy lasagne sheets. They did get a replacement burger out with speed, however, the manager requires some customer service training. Lacked empathy & he didn’t deal with confrontation well. I could tell he had possibly been dealing with this several times already & decided to give him a break so we didn’t push for compensation. The manager just explained that it was made “off-site”. That’s hospitality speak for its microwaved from frozen. My Husband didn’t return for breakfast the following day & went elsewhere out of fear of getting ill. The Premier Inn reception staff didn’t hesitate to process the refund for the pre-paid breakfast & apologised on their behalf. My husband and I didn’t actually receive a sincere apology from the Beefeater staff.

Visited as sent a birthday voucher for my wife's birthday. All staff very professional and friendly. A lovely meal and very comfortable atmosphere. Revisited 11/1/24. Some good deals and enjoyed the food. Seemed a bit under staffed. Revisited 29/4/24. A very enjoyable visit. We enjoyed Gammon Steak. The member of staff who served us was extremely helpful and polite. Revisited today, 24/7/24. Enjoyed another meal. Staff very helpful.

Reserved a table, then told we've stopped serving food 10 minutes later. Don't know why a reservation was offered if they're not cooking. Went to buy some drinks at the bar at 10pm and was told time was called already. Nobody told us it was last orders. At 10.30pm told to leave as it was closing. But closing time is advertised as 11pm.

Had a lovely lunch. Lunch menu was meals under £8. Good value.

Worst food I have ever had at beefeater when I complained my waitress just shrugged her shoulders

We love going here they have great deals on meals. Unfortunately when we went on Sunday they had sold out of the Lamb roast, which was a shame as it was only 1.30pm. The lady serving us was great but they never seem to have enough staff working. On our visit before we had one of the £8 meals the meal was lovely..it was unlimited soft drinks but the coke was totally flat and that night my partner had upset tummy.

Starter portions were small for the price and not even well presented. Mains were ok but nothing to make you want to go back for more especially for the price. Lemonade didn't have enough syrup in the mix and tasted of carbonated water. One member of staff attended the restaurant and hence service was slow although other team members served food which came out in good time.

Food looked amazing and the tables were clean. However the outside area had rubbish lying around and ashtrays were full and glasses on the tables. Nice view of the traffic lights from the beer garden. Not much of a view for the diners inside as hedges were overgrown. Handy being next to the premier inn that has electric points for charging vehicles. Ideal if working in the area as close to Paignton and Torquay.

Great value for a Saturday or Sunday breakfast! Fabulous food & coffee. Clean & tidy with fabulous attentive staff.

This has got to be one of the worst meals I've eaten out in a long time. On arrival, I ordered a class of coke and a packet of crisps. I wasn't given the crisps, as I was chatting I forgot to ask for them. I mean, you don't usually have to remind the staff to get what you paid for. For lunch, I had halloumi fries. Nothing wrong with them. For my main, I had Bbq ribs fat chips. Corn on the cob. The ribs were spicy, which I didn't expect, so I didn't enjoy them. Not much bbq sauce on them either. The chips were just normal chips, as opposed to fries. I had 12 chips. The corn on the cob wasn't even a whole mini cob. It was two 2 cm slices of corn on the cob. How can they not afford to put a whole mini cob on your dinner. A portion of sweet corn would have gone down better. Penny pinching at this leven is just shameful. It's disgusting to advertise corn on the cob when it's two slices. As for just 12 chips. Come on, Beefeater. I expected better. Will I go back not in the near future. Staff were friendly enough but worked hard on the upselling. It is just upselling and not trying to advise on different options. All in all, they need to do better.

I recommend this restaurant. If you want to eat well, this is the place. A place with tradition since 1973. Thank you to the lady who served us in choosing the food and explaining the dinner sets

Sorry but not happy, have been here many times and really enjoyed it however recently booked a table for 6 Saturday lunch time only to turn up and find the place closed, I fully understand the reason why but think it should have been announced on their Facebook page as i tried calling 4 times to no reply!!!!! We were left disappointed and had to drive around looking for somewhere else to lunch. Not happy.

The food was top quality and the service was amazing we was serviced by a women called Emma she was amazing didn't want for anything I can't praise this women enough.

Lovely staff and nice food. Food was served quickly and Chloe our server was fantastic! All the team were working really hard. They had a rowdy group in of 75 rugby club members which ruined the atmosphere a little but that’s not the restaurant’s fault. Despite this the servers were really attentive, and on top form.

Had Sunday lunch which was great my only slight reservation was the wait for the meal to arrive was a little longer than I would have liked. Overall I would come again.

The service was pleasant but initially slow. Overall I found the service sloppy and unprofessional as my main meal arrived halfway through my starter. Had I done this in the early part of my career I would have been sacked on the spot. My how times have changed. I also noticed a wood panel was missing showing exposed wiring. Extremely dangerous considering there were young children running around.

All you can eat breakfast at a nice relaxed pace. Always plenty of everything.

Myself and a friend visited this beefeater on a Saturday evening. After 5 minutes of waiting to be seated and the gentlemen Infront of us making a comment about us being invisible we were finally acknowledged and seated. We were served by a very pleasant young lady who took our orders. Within about 10 minutes then food arrived. I had ordered a double BBQ burger and upgraded the fries for cheesy fries. When the food arrived the chips were extremely cold. I told gentlemen who served the food and he did not seem to understand so the young lady who had served us came over, apologised and remembered bed the bowl of cold soggy fries to be replaced. At the same time we ordered another drink. Less than 5 minutes later the chips had arrived followed about a minute later by the drinks. The lady who brought the drinks proceeded to remove my current drink, still with at least a quarter of a pint in, and the bowl of chips that had just been delivered to the table as I had literally taken a few on a fork out of the bowl. Leaving the empty plate and with my friend still eating his meal. We spoke with the young lady who was serving us who was extremely apologetic and said they would tell the manager. My friend at this point was in complete shock and could not stop laughing at what had happened. Even other tables were finding it amusing at this point and had joined in joking around about a fresh bowl of chips being taken from out table whilst I was halfway through a mouthful. A man who I assume was the manager came over and asked what the issue was and I proceeded to explain. He told us he would take the drink and chips off the bill. At this point still my friend could not contain his laughter and I commented how I would not mind if the lady who removed my chips, would remove my bill before I paid it. At this point the manager seemed to take offence and then proceeded to argue with me Infront of the other diners. I asked for the bill paid and left rather annoyed by the whole experience. When I checked the bill back at the car, 1 drink had infact been removed from the bill. As for the chips, I was graciously gifted the 99p charge for upgrading to cheesy chips and still paid the full £16.99 for the burger and a mouthful of fries after sending the cold bowl back. In summary I personally will never visit a beefeater again and I would strongly advise against anyone else visiting this particular restaurant any time soon.
