This café has both a main stand selling drinks, sandwiches and the like, and an adjoining pizza oven. You have to join the one queue and pay at the main stand, even if you only want a pizza. So, the queue is always - always - very long. Not just long during the lunchtime rush, no, but long even at 4pm. If the food had been amazing, it might have been worthwhile, but alas!

We went to Kew during half term. White peaks cafe was rammed, no seats available. I had to feed my 6 month old in the isle as I couldn’t find a seat, and that was the only high chair available. Many of the seats were taken by people bringing their own food. We paid top price and couldn’t sit anywhere. To top it off 20 min queue to change my son, as this restaurant only has 1 babychange. Won’t be returning in a hurry!

We came here for tea and cake. The set up is basic self service in cardboard cups. You are charged 15 pence for not bringing your own cup which in a place like this is ridiculous. The cake was nice but very overpriced at nearly £5 per slice. Overall poor value.

We went as a 3-generation family & none of us enjoyed our meal. We queued for ages at the servery & again to pay. The fishy fish cakes had no discernible fish in them - just potato with the occasional sliver of green herb. The chicken burger turned out to be a bean burger. The £5.95 sandwich was inedible & we were unable to decipher the ingredients. There were insufficient tables & way too few high-chairs - & this claims to be a family friendly café. We noticed a lot of the tables were occupied by people who had brought their own picnic - they obviously knew how awful the food was here. If we ever come again we will certainly not be buying their food. The other reviewers are absolutely right - avoid like the plague, Kew Gardens should be doing better than this.

Kew ought to be ashamed of this place. We only ended up here because of the long queues to pay for food in the Orangery. The over priced food we had here was cold by the time we had queued and found a clean table. It was served on paper plates and we had to use plastic cutlery. Wine was served in a plastic cup. Once we had eaten half our food and pushed it to on side the resident pigeons meandering around the floor jumped on the table to finish it off ....at least they were happy. Not sure what the environmental health people would say about this place.

We went there on 31/12 and had the Macaroni cheese (luke warm at best and tasted very dull and bland). Presentation being dumped on a paper plate is zero stars along with the food itself which cost £7.95. I had a hot dog and chips. The chips were very few and just about warm, the hot dog was in a cheap looking 5p roll and the meat itself was of poor quality. The onions were tastless and over cooked. We also had a frangipane which was very dry. Overall very POOR VALUE. AVOID

I’ve eaten at White Peaks three times in the last year or so, simply because the old lady I accompany to Kew Gardens seems to like it. On each visit I made the mistake of choosing a hot meal. It never fails to disappoint. The worst was Tandoori Chicken (July 2018) which was undercooked and so tough that I left most of it. The vegetables were severely undercooked as well (even for someone who normally likes her veg ‘al dente’).

I live really close to the gardens and visit often with my four year old. Maybe one visit in five I will give her hot food in the cafe instead of bringing a packed lunch. The food has always been mediocre at best and luke warm and overpriced but I was unaware there had recently been a big change to the menu. Now no vegetables are included unless you pay separately for them. So one sausage and some cold chips was £6 and if I added over cooked cold broccoli it was almost £10. I asked them - as I had many times before - if I could have a smaller amount of chips and some broccoli but the answer was absolutely not. I saw the manager who said it wasn’t her decision so I saw the chef. He was very polite but explained it was a new policy and he had to stick to it from head office . So in this day and age head office don’t think Kids need vegetables ? He did in the end give in to me but only because I was so insistent and he really didn’t want to do it as it was clear he wasn’t supposed to. In the end I felt bad for asking as it clearly was out of their hands. Come on Kew Gardens we know we are being fleeced when we eat there but if the food is edible and a decent enough meal we can take it on the chin. The food was really poor standard and I wished I had brought a packed lunch as usual.

Not put off by some of the negative reviews I gave White Peaks a go yesterday. Chicken with pasta, new potatoes and peas was OK and at £11.50 for that and a cuppa about what I expected to pay. Paper plates and plastic cutlery were the let down. Tables generally clean, the young lady wiped them each time she cleared them, but was surprised by the starlings which were left to roam on the floor and completely devouring an empty plate on the outside area with nobody seeming to care. Overall it met my needs but could certainly do with improvements.

Love Kew but HATE White Peakes. A mediocre tuna sandwich, small pot of less than fresh grapes and a smoothie for my 5 year old cost nearly £10. The lunch boxes for children represent better value but most of the items had run out! I expect to be ripped off but felt that this really was taking the micky! To make things worse, the lack of organisation and staff made the experience nothing less than horrendous as one had to endure unbearable congestion and long queues. After an early start and a very long coach journey, my friend and I were so hungry that we chose to eat at this cafe as it was nearest to the gate through which we had entered. Once inside, we were a bit doubtful as to whether we had made the right choice, but as it was almost midday we knew that the other eating places would be filling up and decided to stay put. We wanted a hot meal. Veggie choices were limited. I chose the jacket potato and coleslaw as the only other option - a tiny round dish of macaroni cheese - did not look very inspiring. My potato was OK. The server added coleslaw that she took from a huge mountain of the stuff that was in a bowl on the counter. The bowl was completely uncovered. It was not until a helping had been put on my plate that we noticed a fly crawling over the coleslaw. The server took no notice of it, so my friend removed the fly and put it on the counter. This was one of the hottest days of the year so far. We couldn't believe that the coleslaw was just left on the side, unchilled and uncovered. I wanted some protein with my meal, and was told that grated cheese would be £1 extra! The server literally grabbed a handful of cheese and topped my potato with it. Granted she was wearing plastic gloves, but what else had she touched with them...? Surely she should have used a spoon? We decided to forgo the cakes as not only were they ridiculously expensive, but they too were completely uncovered on the counter. There was nothing to stop customers touching them with grubby hands or - even worse - sneezing or coughing over them.We ate inside as there were pigeons on the outside tables. Even so, pigeons were walking into the cafe through the open doors! This experience spoiled my first ever trip to Kew. If I go back again, will definitely take a packed lunch.

Just because this is a family cafeteria, it doesn't excuse such a cynical disregard for standards. The food should at least be edible.Four reheated cast-iron meatballs for £8.50 with a splodge of tinned tomatoes on cold rice proved too much for my cast-iron stomach. This after mislabelling of prices which led me to expect the same portion for £5, and a queuing system that doesn't differentiate between people ordering coffee and those wanting to pay for their trays of hot (well, luke-warm) food standing behind them). Since all the other eating establishments within the gardens share a lot of the same overpriced stodge, just keep on taking picnics when you go until, God willing, they finally get the message, although the problem may be that too many visitors - most from overseas - are there on a one-off visit and apparently don't need to be taken into account. But then they will go back to their home countries with at least one more story of appalling food in Britain. For me, it just spoiled the mellow mood I'd got into from the gardens themselves and ensured that no charitable donations for their upkeep would be forthcoming.

I love kew gardens. I am a friend of Kew and so have the annual pass and go every week. It's the most tranquil beautiful place and am in awe at the work that goes into it.This week however I has the misfortune of visiting white peaks as my 5 month old baby needed feeding and changing. The positives first - there was a microwave to heat baby's bottle and the girl that served me was friendly and efficient and offered to carry my tray as I was juggling baby and pram. The negatives - the coffee was tasteless and served in a paper cup. The cookie I had was dry and stale. £4.20 for a very small cup of coffee and a small cookie seemed steep. I looked at the other food options but nothing appealed - the sandwiches in particular looked utterly depressing. The whole room lacked any atmosphere and just felt a bit grubby. There was a pigeon flying around which a member of staff was trying to catch which added to the strangeness of the place. In addition the baby changing room was closed by the restaurant so I had to go to the one in the children's play area (I think it was called creepers?). It was disgusting. Really filthy and absolutely stank. If i could have avoided changing my baby i would have done. It was appalling. I know alot of that will be down to how other visitors leave the facilities but Im surprised a cleaner hadn't thought to check and give the area a clean and empty the bins.I adore kew gardens but this was really disappointing. I'll stick to taking my own food and praying my baby doesn't need a change whilst we are out in future.

We visit Kew on many occasions as it is a great place to walk and spend time, particularly through the different Seasons of the year. On a recent visit with our young granddaughter we had the misfortune however to visit the White Peaks Cafe which provides what I can only describe as, over priced, poor quality food. In fact the sandwiches in the child's lunch box consisted of a very thin slice of ham in stale bread! For such a well used outlet surely customers should be able to expect a better product and service. The young woman member of staff clearing the tables and 'catching the occasional pigeon in a net' in the Cafe was however particularly courteous and did a good job!

I love Kew Gardens. My children love Kew Gardens! We visit regularly and I’m a Friend of Kew. So far so good! However, the love ends (temporarily) whenever we experience White Peaks Cafe. We’ve been in on several occasions over the last few years and every time I say it will be my last as the food and experience are so poor. I really have decided now that we will definitely not go back, as even my most boring, basic ham or cheese sandwiches made at home are better than what is on offer there, and that is what we’ll do from now on.As a concept it all seems good. A large, airy, family-friendly café with ample inside and outside seating next to the Climbers and Creepers play area. When you go in the food all looks really appealing. There is plenty of choice of hot and cold food, a children’s pick and mix area, and drinks. We like this sort of set up and are happy to pay for the convenience of not having to make a packed lunch before visits to these sorts of attractions. However, that’s where the similarity to any other café at such an attraction (National Trust and so on) ends. The food from here, though looking inviting, freshly cooked and beautifully presented, actually doesn’t taste of anything! My children and I, despite being quite hungry through having active days at Kew, have actually left meals before as they are so bland. One example is the tubs of strawberries and cream I bought as a treat, earlier this year, at peak strawberry time. We all started them with anticipation but all left them after a few bites, as the strawberries tasted of nothing, as did the cream! How is that possible? I recently had a sort of open sandwich with lots of peppers on top, and mozzarella. It looked gorgeous but when I tucked in, again, it had no taste. I have a healthy appetite and rarely leave anything but I gave up halfway through due to boredom! Even the children’s pick and mix section is poorly stocked, and overpriced, and on several occasions even at lunchtime nothing has been left except sweets. These are just some examples of the poor food I have had there; I just keep on going back as I think I must have imagined it!To add insult to injury, food is served on paper plates, and to make matters worse, only flimsy plastic cutlery is available! Some of the food there is impossible to cut except on a proper plate with a proper knife and fork. It really lowers the tone. I can’t understand the reason for it.I wish they would just serve simple but tasty food. Many of the reviews on the main Kew review section also state people’s unhappiness with the catering, and to my mind this is the one thing letting Kew down currently.Peyton and Byrne currently have the contract with Kew, and I can honestly say that until a new contractor is brought in, I won’t be buying food there again. I wish they would consider the contractor currently used in the Royal Parks, and no, I am not connected with that contractor, but am just a satisfied customer! This is one place where I am best off going to the trouble of putting a picnic together, and thankfully, once made, there are so many beautiful spots to eat it!
