A catalogue of errors. They took the crab off even though we arrived promptly at 1pm. The service was not up to scratch and at times non existent. I had to pour my own wine throughout the service. The waiting staff are nowhere to be seen. The steak was over rested so much so it was lukewarm. The bill was wrong. Then we had the head front of house ‘Pia’ trying to argue and coerce us into paying the the most undeserved and un-earned service charge. Seriously?!!! What a complete joke!!! That place lost it ever since chef Greg Malouf left all those years ago and it has not improved to those lofty standards ever since. Positives, wine was good, food was good but nothing special, produce excellent. Oh yes the limoncello was on the house. They’re charging Michelin star prices for sub par food and service. They should go next door to the Dysart and learn a few things. Pia should be fired. Update: I just learned this place is closing. While I’m sorry for the hard working staff losing their jobs, I won’t be sorry to see this place go or the rubbish staff lose their jobs. Good riddance to bad rubbish which is a blight on the Richmond restaurant scene.

We had brunch at Petersham Nurseries. The setting is unique and beautiful especially after a walk along the river. However overall I have to say it was disappointing. For a start the coffee is not great considering the wide availability of great coffee in many places theses days I find it hard to understand why they would not put more effort into this. I had the Shakshuka, when it arrived the eggs were hard and the dish had to be returned. The sauce was bland and watery. My husband had the English breakfast, the sausages and bacon were good quality and the added greens were also tasty. We didn’t bother with more coffee or cake. The service was good it’s just a shame the overall quality was poor.

As with some other recent reviewers, our experience was marred by very long wait times between courses. We waited around 35-40 minutes between our starters and mains, with no explanation or apology from the wait staff. The food was decent but the portions were remarkably small, especially for the starters. Overall, it was a pleasant setting with some nice tasting food, but if you are able to spend c.£150pp for a 3-course lunch there are some much better options available locally. Hopefully they can upgrade whatever’s going on in the kitchen sometime soon, as the venue has real potential but isn’t quite up to scratch for the price point yet.

Service and atmosphere are great, unfortunately… for a £190 check (without alcohol), I would expect something a little bit wow. Previously, for the last couple of years each time I looked for a table, it is always full. Somehow I thought I was lucky to finally able to get a table for my birthday lunch. Starter was amazing, I had tartare and my husband had burrata - though nothing is really spectacular about the burrata but 5 stars for the tartare. Main? If we want to give an honest opinion, the steak was tough, my sourdough for the stew came burnt, I did asked the waiter if it’s possible to change but the 2nd bread came cold and hard. Desserts were tasting okay but again, lacking a wow factor for that range of price. Would we come back for the food? No. I should’ve read the reviews but was already filled up with all this ideas I’ve built in my mind about the restaurant reputation for the last couple of years. Now that I read the reviews here about the food quality and that assurance comments will be shared with the team from months ago and the latest was last week, but I am still facing similar concerns today so I guess the comments were never really taken seriously. Alas yes, this is disappointing. The only good thing that come up from this is that I’ll get two birthday lunches 😂

Great place. The vegan option seemed lazy. The vegan dessert was just the normal dessert without the ice-cream. For £100 you'd expect them to get in a vegan ice cream. So the vegan option cost the same for quite clearly less. Having said that, the service and atmosphere and the other food was excellent. Just disappointed by the vegan options

Firstly I must say the service was very good. I feel the food is overpriced for a 3 course set menu as with the cheapest bottle of wine, our bill was £560 for a group of four. There was water seeping from the toilets in the ladies WC which did not come across as very hygienic.

Beautiful place, unique decor with lots of plants and interesting artwork. Loved the ambiance of spring. 3 stars because we expected more from the food for the price: waited 1 hour for the main and it came warm-ish, not hot. My fish was “gummy”, not sure if it was well-marinated and cooked. The spring greens were just steamed leaves with no taste. Will definitely come back to see the garden again and have a drink.

The food was okay but completely overshadowed by the extremely slow service times and careless, disrespectful staff. It took over an hour from ordering for our starters to arrive and they only came after we chased. The same was then true for our mains which took another hour and required chasing. When they came the side dishes were missing and despite asking at the time then had to chase again before they arrived, by which point we had almost finished our mains as were so hungry after waiting for 2 hours. Most staff were inattentive and unapologetic throughout. Overall a very disappointing experience from a restaurant I expected so much more from. This place is overhyped and understaffed, total waste of time.

Came here after hearing great things and left feeling rather underwhelmed. Nice staff and beautiful decor. Very loud and tricky to hear each other talk as well as what the waiter was saying. Rather a high price for what you get.. waited an hour for our mains which were pretty much (barely) roasted vegetables. Lacked a tasty edge to them. Staff are nice it was rather busy. Would’ve been great not to have had to ask twice for some water for our dog and I think towards the end our waitress finished her shift. Would’ve been nice to have chosen what we tipped.. A little disappointed really, very expensive and could be better. As a vegetarian, paying £65 for two courses means they should be as tasty and well thought through as the meat & fish options. Another waitress offered free a drink/coffee but as we’d been there for so long we just wanted to go home. If long waiting times are standard, letting people know before booking would be a great shout.

I went to the cafe yesterday with my mother for lunch. There was a sign on the door saying due to kitchen refurbishments there was a slightly altered menu. We sat and ordered coffee. The coffee came in takeaway cups, no sugar offered or on the table. I ordered the toasty and my mum the soup. The toasty arrived on a disposable cardboard tray, no salad. The soup was in a small bowl with no bread. Both dishes were served with disposable cutlery. We asked the waitress where the salad was and we advised her of our dissatisfaction with the takeaway crockery. The waitress advised us that there was no salad with the toasty and that the disposable crockery was due to the kitchen refurbishment. However in the restaurant next door they were eating off of proper crockery. £11 for a small bowl of soup with no bread and a substandard toasty for £10 served on a cardboard tray with disposable cutlery is a complete rip off. Additionally my toasty claimed to come with onion chutney but this was difficult to locate. It feels as if they are actually not ready to open, due to the kitchen refurbishments, but have done so anyway. At the expense of proper service and quality. The wait staff are trying their best, but I feel this is a poor decision made by management to open when the establishment is clearly not ready to have customers in the cafe. Due to our poor experience, after our lunch we left to go and have coffee and cake elsewhere. I would have had a better meal at Gregg's and it would have cost half the price. I am concerned that they have received a Michelin Green Star for sustainability but are serving disposable crockery and cutlery in the cafe.

It has a wonderful ambience but it is not Michelin star standard and therefore not worth the very high cost per head. The anchovy starter was a crude green salad with too many leaves and 3 thin strips of fish. Where was the finesse? Similarly the pudding was just a small slice of pear tart, absolutely nothing special. Only the main dish, the beef was to an excellent standard. They really know how to serve rare beef well. In addition there was an hour wait between starter and main course with no word from the serving staff . Once we chased this up they were very understanding and offered us free wine but we cannot have been the only ones left disappointed by the experience.

A real disappointment. Meal for two with two drinks and a coffee each £325. The atmosphere and the service were pleasant, but the steak was full of gristle, pasta in the lamb ragu partially undercooked, and the flavours bland. I am genuinely surprised just what poor value for money Petersham Nurseries is. On that scale, it is at the foot of my many many dining experiences, hence only the one star. There are so many alternatives nearby that would provide a truly memorable experience at that price point. Shame, as I was looking forward to some fine dining.

We went for afternoon tea and had high hopes but left disappointed unfortunately. It took a long time for each aspect of afternoon tea to arrive that we had to chase more than once. The tea got cold before any food arrived. While there were lots of staff, they seemed rushed off their feet and unable offer attention to each table. We were given the wrong menu more than once and this meant we only knew exactly what food was served half way through. We went at Christmas time for a festive themed experience but, other than ferry lights, there was little evidence of that. On a positive note, the setting is beautiful and the food was good.

We were very dissatisfied with the service and quality of food at Petersham Nurseries on a recent dinner trip. We booked a table for 2 for my partners birthday and this is one of the worst experiences I have had at a restaurant. The restaurant looked nice inside but it was cold and the furniture was rocking on the uneven floor. We ordered the set menu, 4 courses for £100 each as this was the only option and £70 extra per person for the wine pairing. For this price we expected rich and exquisite food. The appetisers were Fish Croquettes and Polenta, both were cold. The starters of Risotto and Lamb Ragu were better, but very little Lamb in the Ragu and fairly tasteless. Certainly not justifying the price. We waited 1hr for the mains to arrive after the starters, and no one checked in on us. It was at this point I wondered whether to leave, but it was a special occasion for my other half and I didn't want to ruin the night. The mains arrived; Beef with Spinach, and Fish on the bone - which came with no sides at all and we weren't warned that this would be the case. By this point we'd waited for so long we didn't want to cause any further delays to our meal. The Beef was average, the Fish was OK but neither were as we expected. I was looking forward to my favourite dessert, Tiramisu - but what came was a deconstructed version and was essentially a bowl of cream, cocoa dust and clumps of overpowering coffee. How can they get a Tiramisu so wrong? To top it off, they brought the Tiramisu out with a Happy Birthday candle on when it was my other halves Birthday. This would have been funny, had we not have waiting for so long for our food and for it to be a huge disappointment. We were so down about the experience and as it approached 10.30pm we just wanted to leave, and after paying the £300 bill the waiter apologised for the wait. We have contacted the restaurant as we feel it is only fair to be compensated as we did not experience the quality of food or service we paid for, but they have not been responsive other than to say 'we will pass the feedback onto the team to ensure it's better in future' - but how does that rectify our disappointing experience?

Gorgeous place and wonderful atmosphere. Unfortunately, I came on a Saturday afternoon when they were swamped. While we were seated in decent time, it took the friendly young waiters a long time to take our orders as they were swamped. We chose to sit outdoors as indoors was too loud to have a conversation. The food was fine, but nothing remarkable. I appreciate it was food made on site, hence 4 stars but would have liked some garnishing on the dishes- a little bit of green would have been appreciated. I am sure their fine dining resto with fine dining prices is much better. Price wise I thought it was expensive for what we received and I will be honest; not sure how often I will return. "We happily invited many of our friends to Petersham Nurseries in the past but today's lunch was very disappointing, despite the willing and friendly service. The Puntarelle alla Romona and the uninspired garden salad drowned in vinegar, the crispy pakora came with a bland tasting cream, the truffle barely saved the tasteless cauliflower risotto, the Cacciucco fish stew was dry and tasteless, the Lemon Sole just passed and the Jersey Royals were the only highlight of this overpriced lunch. The mediocre food and an obscene mark-up of almost 7-times the market price for a bottle of modest Riesling made us feel short changed. What happened to the memorable dishes from the Petersham Team?

We had an assigned waiter, when another waiter came to take a desert order, our assigned waiter returned and told us off for not giving him the order. For the price tag it’s not our responsibility as guests to decide who should take our order or not, it is for the waiting staff to coordinate. Would recommend to not do the wine pairing to make the cost more reasonable.

Service was excellent - welcoming without being too fussy. And the setting was lovely (helped by a wonderful late summer day). I know people rave about this place and It has a Michelin Green Star, however my family and I were so disappointed. It was my daughters 16th Birthday and she especially wanted to come and experience the food and ambience. For a set £90 per head for 3 course before drinks, there was no other options to have less food. The appetizers listed were so common place and uninspired. Melon with prosciutto and bruschetta with tomatoes??? My partner and I don’t eat bacon so we were given a small piece of the melon with a basil leaf instead. Three of us had the linguine with chili crab and one had the Scottish griolles on bruschetta. The crab linguine was like eating pasta swimming in lemon dish water. It was overly lemony and you couldn’t taste the crab at all. The mushrooms on toast were soggy and again nothing special. For mains the girls fared better, one had the lamb and the other the beef which was reasonable. I had the plaice and my partner had the sea bream. Unfortunately both dishes were absolutely tasteless. I would say that I have a discerning palate and can appreciate the more subtle flavors of these two fish dishes but I’m afraid I had to basically force myself to finish the fish so that I wouldn’t waste the £30 it cost to have this dish in front of me. The potato side we ordered was overly salted so was jarring against the flavourless fish. Two of the desserts were the only discernible dishes that were remotely passable from the menu we experienced this evening. The strawberry cheesecake and the peach frangipane tart which were nice enough but for £30 for each dessert I was expecting something special. one of my daughters ordered the tiramisu, which was a deconstructed version of the dessert and it was a hopeless effort that came with a side of very strong expresso which they didn’t explain at all. So unbeknownst to my daughter she poured most of it over the dessert and the end result was inedible. The atmosphere wasn’t that great, the staff were attentive in a slightly haughty way but I wish they would have explained the dishes a little more. All in all I will not be back and I will give an honest opinion to anyone that asks me about our visit to the restaurant, this is the worst meal I have had all year.

A bit of a shambles. They have a queue system but it is too easy to walk in from other areas - they need signs. Staff were very slow/non-existent.

Petersham Nurseries Restaurant is a romantic place for afternoon fun in Richmond. The food is a bit overpriced, limited choose in the menu, you can only select two courses for £55 or £65 for three courses. vegetable salad fish are quite fresh and cooked to a good standard, highly recommended.

Really disappointed. Came to cafe as soon as it opened at 10.00 am for breakfast after walk in Richmond Park. Had to wait behind two others to be seated although most tables were empty. Staff all talking between themselves oblivious to our presence Ordered croissant, piece of cake and two coffees Croissant arrived alone undercooked. We waited minutes but cake and coffee nowhere to be seen. We were told the coffee machine had a problem - cafe had only been open for an hour! Coffee and cake finally arrived Overstaffed all of them running around but nobody in charge clearly. A real example of how not to do it. Absolutely awful😳

Food and atmosphere were amazing. Service was good but they forgot to bring our teas with the afternoon tea menu, which I was not expecting from a place like this. I took my family who was visiting for the afternoon tea and they truly enjoyed it (including two kids aged 9-10). We all got afternoon tea menus and each bite was an experience. The place is lovely as well and you can spend some times going through the plants shop and lifestyle shop as well. Perfect lunch plan if you are going to Richmond park for a stroll before! Will definitely come back again soon!

One of my favourite places in the world! Beautiful decor, lovely staff and the food is delicious. I had a better experience eating here during the week than at the weekend (it was very busy and we had to chase several times).

Not particularly impressed. The restaurant was leaking everywhere, tables were wet, the way in from the car park was like an obstacle course jumping over puddles (and to get to the bathroom), food was nice but not amazing considering £325 bill for 2, Sam our waiter was great but too many staff kept asking the same question ( order drinks / order food) when we had already ordered and the strawberry bellini was flat as it had been prepared and was standing on the bar (noticed after ordering). And it was cold! At about 8pm the heaters got turned off and many guests had to put jackets on. Won’t bother again.

I have to say, I was pretty disappointed with my experience at this place. My friend and I went for a two-course set menu, added an appetiser, but didn't order any drinks, and the bill came to £125. Now, I don't mind paying for good food, but what we got wasn't worth that kind of money. Our first course was just some ordinary tomatoes on a plate. Not exactly the most exciting or creative dish. The second course was a chickpea curry with pakoras and bread, a dish that usually doesn't cost much to make. But they somehow managed to mess it up. It didn't taste Indian at all. It was like they took a traditional Indian dish, stripped it of all its authenticity, and then jacked up the price. The bread was undercooked inside and burnt outside, and the rice was undercooked and crunchy, so we ended up leaving most of our mains because we just couldn't eat it. It seems like this place cares more about looking good than serving good food. So, I can't recommend eating here. If you're interested in it at all, maybe just go to look at the plants. They were the only things worth seeing.

We had such a lovely time for our friend's birthday! ❤ The staff were super attentive and made the evening feel special. Food was really nice, portions just the right size and we felt full at the end of the 3rd course. And the ambiance was just wonderful ! 🤩

Excellent food - can recommend the courgette flowers, ceviche, Hay Farm chicken and monkfish - but we had to wait 50 mins between our starters and mains at lunch, despite being told it was "only 5 mins" away twice when we asked how long. Such a shame.

Dinner for two on a Friday night. An unusual location in a greenhouse with an earth floor. Despite the prices not particularly one to dress up for. The food is as you would expect excellent. Though I have had similar quality for less. We were on the first sitting and initially appreciated the setting. However as it filled up and the wine began to flow it became very rowdy and noisy. More like a pub. , Conversation became very difficult. Not sure if we will be back.

Lovely place, lovely staff. I don't even mind to spend the premium exclusive price if the food match the money, but, oh dear, these chef wannabes small plates are poorly created and cooked. Trust me, just go for a coffee at the bar.

Anyone who gives anything less than 5 stars to any aspect of this place is a pinnacle hater who will die alone due to being unlovable because of their hate. The food is literally gourmet...with fish fresh from the ocean (which is very rare in London) and all vegetables literally grown on sight in the nursery (it's a plant nursery). Honestly can't fault the food. The service is fantastic, a special mention to mediterranean Samuel who took care of my family for my old man's 70th birthday, which was pulled off brilliantly. And the ambiance is incredible as it's in a beautiful garden. In the summer this is as good as it gets, honestly. And even when the weather is colder there's a greenhouse to use instead which is nicely decorated.

Early dinner on a warm Thursday evening. Arrived early to enjoy the quiet hum of the waterfountain surrounded by beautiful plants from the nursery. Incredible menu with fabulous starters, freshest of tomatoes and ricotta, succulent chicken and the fluffiest of cheesecake. Fabulous and friendly service.
