The interior is charmingly vintage and romantic, with quick service and parking available. Most of the food is grown locally and organic. Desserts are not tasty and overly sweet. The rest of the food isn’t extraordinary but still delicious.

I’ve been walking to the nursery for years and enjoyed the tea, coffee & cakes, sometimes a salad. All those years I’ve wanted to go to the restaurant in the evening. The restaurant decor and ambiance was beautiful and usual. My starter was delicious and I think our guests enjoyed theirs. I had the beef and not overly impressed with the cream potato. Desserts were delicious. However, the bill was astronomical and I would suggest that people check their bank account before attending.

I’m sorry if I made you uncomfortable at first by asking to change it, thinking it was a cream tea. However, the afternoon tea was so delicious that it was worth every penny, and the friendly staff made the experience even better. I usually find it hard to eat too many desserts, but at Petersham, I found myself happily finishing every bite! Thank you for making it a delightful and delicious meal!

overpriced, low level service, total waste of time and money. First and last time here, me and my wife. Exited by the green michelin star and local and home produce. Asked for a table by the window to have fresh air as was very worm day, the "maitre" seems firstly disappointed by the request and then accomodate us on a very small round coffee table with very uncomfortable hard chairs nearby the glass but not windows and not fresh air sadly. The only comment form the Manager was : "I also love to be outdoors , I have spent my whole life outdoors!" (yes, good to know but I'm about to have a meal in this premises worth minimum £65 p.p. and your staff is too lazy to set me a table under the pergola ) .... Disappointly during the meal finding out that the side tea room costumers where therefore blessed to be served under the pergola as the day was getting warmer and warmer. I then try to find my confort and think only about lovely produce written on the menu. Starters : It wasn't certainly Culatello di Zibello but not even close to a good quality Parma ham that 1 thin slice, I'm from Modena and we have a restaurant in Jersey, we serve Culatta di Parma. The burrata of average quality was cold from fridge temperature. Vanison carpaccio was good, but ridiculously small portion like 7 small thin slices with half pickled blackberry on 3 slices only. Mains : pork loin was pre cooked with an overwhelming bland in taste, with undercooked squash and other roots submerged in overly sweet pumpkin pure. Rib eye : good taste, but full of nerves and with a side of sad "roast" (soggy ) potatoes . 2 dips and boiled kale on the side all full of garlic and coriander , I like both, but too boring, Considering the cost for 1 starter and beef plate at £75 + service charge was a total rip off especially the £65 + s.c. from burrata and pork plate. The £10 non alcoholic drink was a joke, just tasting of tonic water. I'm afraid but I see this tendency in lots of restaurants were the owner is not present, mediocre but overpriced food, Mediocre service, they gave me a wet stake knife and no passion from waiters bringing the plates. No desserts , I had the stand up 2 times to get bill and then the card machine to pay over £170 before to rush away.

I came for lunch in the greenhouse and realised it had all changed since I was here last time (before covid). I had to wait 45 minutes to get a table. (I was on my own). The salad was miniscule and the cake dry. Last time I was there, there were so many beautiful and inspiring plant arangements. This time there were two of them at the entrance, that was it. The rest of the pots looked pretty shoddy and ”forgotten”. The shop that focus on interiors was beautiful though and inspiring. It just felt like profit has become more important than the mission.

If I wanted to spend as much money as I did, I would go to Mayfair London. Food was poor, I had the guinea fowl and it was so over cooked it was like eating cardboard, my boyfriend had charred pumpkin and there was nothing charred about it was raw pumpkin. It had a gorgonzola moose which has obviously been sat out all day and had eventually split. He also had the sole which was pure mush. Bread was okay. Wine by the glass was nice, the ruining factor was the minute our first course arrived we got told they were shutting the bar. This was disappointing as we had been there all it 30 minutes and got told we couldn’t have anything else to drink. We booked a table for 3.30 and by 3.40 we were getting chased for an order (we had 5 separate people come up to us within 10 minutes of sitting down) but know one had talked us through the menu or explained what was good or not etc. my parter and I both work in hospitality so we understand that on a Sunday afternoon you want people gone but this was a joke. If you don’t want people eating or coming in at 3.30 just simply don’t keep reservations open that long- we still had to pay the same amount that people who came in at 12/1 did but I bet they got to have a drink with there meal. Only good thing about this place was the ambience.

Strange place. Pretty fairy lights. Not what I was expecting. Kind of a dirt floor, very dark so a job to see the menu or the nicely presented food. Outside toilets which is not fun when it's cold and wet with big puddles everywhere. Ceiling was leaking a bit just above me so got dropped in a couple of times . The food was nice but at £65 for two courses it's overpriced considering my starter was a burrata with roasted figs and my main course was a chicken breast with far too much sauce, a few nuts chucked over the top and some very soggy courgettes on the side. Difficult to get a taxi in the rain as the drivers don't want to get their cars dirty !! Won't be going back or recommending.

Extremely overrated. The food was average I have had better food in restaurants around London that’s tastier and priced better too. I must admit the staff and waiters are lovely except for the manager she is the worst I have come across. We made a simple request to move from the restaurant to the tearoom and she refused and flat out lied to our face that she books staff specifically to the reservation made. Firstly we booked the night before at 9PM, I hardly think you booked a staff member late at night a few hours before our booking. Secondly due to our dietary requirements she could have easily allowed us in the tearoom. We are not leaving the restaurant entirely we just wanted the menu in the tearoom so we can eat what we want. I have traveled around the world to different restaurants and they would have happily allowed us to do. Except she decides to read through the website and everything mentioned on it. Bad customer service in my opinion it would have made much better customer to simply allow us to go to another part of the SAME restaurant. Even if we made a mistake when booking do they not allow for human error? It’s just a restaurant booking not an official document or procedure.

Horrific. Avoid at all costs. I've been to a lot of afternoon teas, and as long as the food is good and service friendly, I'm happy. But this was awful and not worth the price tag. Patisserie Valerie do a better tea and it's £20. Firstly service was the worst I've ever had. Not sure if they were just Saturday staff who hadn't been trained. But we were mainly ignored for most of the time we were there. And we had to ask for clean plates. The food was the worst bit. We are really not that fussy, but it was noticeably bad. The sandwiches are not nice. Soggy bread, grey eggs on the egg mayonnaise. And also, unlike every other afternoon tea I've been too, you don't get refills. But, that was a blessing really as we would not have wanted more of these sandwiches. The cakes were nice and they were the only good part of this meal. I would not recommend it. It's a lot of money for such a poor meal. For the same price, you can go to a fancy hotel in London and get a great experience. This establishment really don't seem like they care at all, just want to make as much money as possible.

I haven’t been here for a few years but used to love it and have previously left solid 5* TA reviews. A small group of us came back for a birthday celebration dinner but did not have the same lovely 5* experience. The food remains outstanding - beautifully presented with great flavour combinations. The quirky atmosphere is also still charming, however I feel they are now resting on their laurels in terms of service and comfort. The wooden chairs were very uncomfortable with a bar that meant you couldn’t tuck your feet under - this would be ok had the table not been so low that we couldn’t cross our legs under it so you’re forced to sit in a perfect upright rather than relaxed positions. Our service whilst very friendly, was REALLY slow - we had to keep calling people over for wine top ups (eventually doing it ourselves) and also to order/let them know we were ready for the plates to be cleared after 15mins sat in front of empties. With a price tag of £165+ per head at the end (with a basic bottle of wine) we would have expected a better quality of overall experience and, sadly, I will not be returning based on this most recent visit.

We went for afternoon tea on 29th August , a voucher number with a unique number confirmed the experience was FULLY PRE PAID including Service charge...was emailed to us beforehand.. On booking to use on line there was no facility to enter the voucher code. Rang instead and was told to just show the voucher on arrival. So returned to on line booking for reservation of date and time , Very unusually you're asked to entrust them with your credit card details so that they can charge you £30.00 per head if you don't turn up , or don't cancel within 48 hours of requested time. We arrived and presented the Voucher and before being seated had to wait while waitress checked our details. Voucher was passed back. You'll be seated on dirty rusty metal chairs with a dirty seat cushion. Similar table without a cloth and on stone strewn dirt floor with a few pieces of broken glass, no protection if it was raining.. Presumably one is supposed to be impressed with this attempt at extreme shabby chic... The sandwiches were tasteless , one selection was red coloured bread that was dried up and curling , the Listed Egg sandwich wasn't there. In general the flavours were confused and without definition. The cakes were so over sweetened so that any natural flavour was completely lost.. During the session the waitresses came round to all there with full trays of unused sandwiches and cakes , there were no takers... Finally, we had finished and the Staff had completely disappeared so we made our way into the adjacent food prep area , no staff there either. So , we left. Subsequently we received a email saying we had been fully charged to the given credit card details , which were only given on the understanding they would be used for a specific purpose We immediately responded providing a copy of their email with the voucher reference. Subsequently three further emails sent with same information, NO RESPONSE and NO REPLY. In short , a disappointing experience in terms of execution, venue and customer service. At up to £65.00 per head not worth it in any circumstances ..

As always the food served in the Teahouse was delicious, freshly sourced and reasonably priced. Despite being busy with lots of people, the staff ensured a quick turnover, working extremely hard to meet everyone's expectations; delivering a friendly and efficient service. Our waitress Kate, was typical of this; working nonstop in searingly hot temperatures (today it was 28°) with a ready smile, dashing here, there and everywhere, in order to make everyone feel valued as a customer. Petersham Nurseries is a beautiful place to unwind and enjoy good, tasty food. The ambience and natural beauty of the surroundings; only serve to enhance the experience. I highly recommend a visit.

We had lunch at the cafe, the food itself was tasty but the service was lacking. We had to keep asking staff to bring us parts of our order that had been forgotten. The summer salad came without feta and had to be sent back. We were then given the wrong bill at the end. A mistake here and there is fine but it felt like one after another. The dining here is divided into the Cafe and the Restaurant. I dined at the restaurant, which offered 2 courses for £69, 3 courses for £79 as part of their lunch menu. The setting was nice, but nothing special. Service was polite. The food is cafe style food at London restaurant prices. It felt expensive, yet lacked care and intention. Most disappointingly, for a farm to table restaurant, there were very limited vegetarian and vegan options, and almost no produce-driven dishes. My entree consisted of a sliced heirloom tomato, good olive oil and 5 croutons. The salad that was an additional £7 was slightly browned (prepped too early in the day) chicory with 6 slices of radish. You decide for yourself if you'd pay £178 for 2 courses with 2 glasses of wine. Next time, I'd go to the Dysart down the road instead. They look like they do stellar food for cheaper. This place seems to just be trading on its name and one too many features in a glossy magazine.

Lovely setting however extremely expensive for what is on offer. A side salad was 7 pounds which was 1 very bitter shredded leaf with some dressing very underwhelming. For the price of a set menu the sides should be included. Main courses were tasty but we are talking about a chicken breast with some lovely sauces a few courgettes not really stuffed as menu indicated for around 40 pounds. Like the idea of spending an afternoon over a special lunch but service was slow and no apologies and that was almost 80 pounds for 6 adults and 2 children under 4 years.

A catalogue of errors. They took the crab off even though we arrived promptly at 1pm. The service was not up to scratch and at times non existent. I had to pour my own wine throughout the service. The waiting staff are nowhere to be seen. The steak was over rested so much so it was lukewarm. The bill was wrong. Then we had the head front of house ‘Pia’ trying to argue and coerce us into paying the the most undeserved and un-earned service charge. Seriously?!!! What a complete joke!!! That place lost it ever since chef Greg Malouf left all those years ago and it has not improved to those lofty standards ever since. Positives, wine was good, food was good but nothing special, produce excellent. Oh yes the limoncello was on the house. They’re charging Michelin star prices for sub par food and service. They should go next door to the Dysart and learn a few things. Pia should be fired. Update: I just learned this place is closing. While I’m sorry for the hard working staff losing their jobs, I won’t be sorry to see this place go or the rubbish staff lose their jobs. Good riddance to bad rubbish which is a blight on the Richmond restaurant scene.

Hi, Im from Pakistan and I have been enthusiastically following petersham nurseries on insta for a while. every time i visit london i make a note in dear diary to visit; finally this summer I had the chance. No doubt its one of the most beautiful nurseries I have ever seen. The whole walk around was enchanting. However, our dining experience at the tea house was a huge disappointment. The staff was not at all attentive and we had to do a near vaudeville routine to gain their attention. The dessert I ordered never showed up and upon asking 3 times I finally gave up and when i told the manager this he just very conveniently told me we can take it off the bill and give you the bill. i wanted to eat the dessert!! I think being busy should not be an excuse to just ignore people and get them off your back and send them packing home with a hurried bill. The food was ok, a bit expensive compared to other fine dining restaurants I've been to; I think if they added more portions to the serving then I'd feel it's more justified. A bit noisy as it's somewhat open-air and lots of people visiting. The team was very nice and catered to our needs although some of our requests weren't really granted. It was raining that day, and there were some leaks thru the ceiling which is understandable, but I felt like they only approached a few select customers to ask if they were fine. Overegged, overhyped and overpriced Petersham fancies itself as a haven for gourmets - sadly it fails dismally to provide food which tastes good and doesn’t even look good. A starter described as Cornish crab pasta with nduja had no taste of crab, to say the iron hard pasta was al dente is the understatement of the decade and it was overpowered by the nduga. A main described as fish stew comprised a bowl with a shellfish and a meagre lump of fish in a liquid tasting vaguely of fish with a slice of toast blobbed with aioli resting on top. A vegetarian starter and a main course were both abominations. This place has delusions of epicurean grandeur - but it is decidedly Greggs -like in what it delivers - at a ridiculous price of £100 a head for 3 courses. Avoid like the plague.

Fun atmosphere people commenting on the surroundings within the glamourous green house. Tasty food and stylish staff being look after. Chease toastie with a nice dressed salad. And a type of Mint and soda drink. Coconut topped cake better than the fruit cake which was bit dry.

We wanted to celebrate a birthday. We brought a cake and they charged us £30 for "caking," which is pretty outrageous. In all our meal was nearly £500 for 5 people. First, I had the seafood stew. It came with 3 mussels, a couple of one-inch-square (roughly) cubes of fish, in an orange base, covered with a burnt piece of toast. The whole thing just tasted like something burnt. No other flavour. I filled up with birthday cake and cheese at the end. My dd's falafel ball order was super salty and spicy. The other orders were fine, including the steak. We had an unpleasant surprise because we were going to eat the remainder of the birthday cake at home. But when we got home, we realised they never gave it back to us! They'd given us two boxes but they didn't contain the birthday cake in them. We had only eaten less than half of the cake, so we should have gotten the rest back!

Spent over £400 for 5 people with no alcohol and the food was poor. The steak was nice, but I had the fish stew, which was a bowl with 3 mussels and 3 tiny pieces of fish (about 1-inch square) under a piece of burnt toast in a red base. So shocking. I was hungry so I ate it, but all it tasted of was something burned. No other flavour. (You can find someone else's review about this wretched stew on Tripadvisor.) Looking back, it is upsetting for what it cost. And to make things worse, we brought a cake for my dd's birthday and not only did they charge £30 for "caking" but they didn't give us the cake back! We ate less than half of the cake. They gave us 2 boxes and we thought the cake was in them, but it wasn't. We were in a hurry at that point, as they were taking so long at the end to bring our bill and bring us the boxes, so our fault for not checking. But we were anxious to leave.

Great place but feel the taste of food is lacking for the price. I had the fish which was quite bland. Overall great vibes in a stunning location.

Lovely location, a few issues with service, and a measly portion of fish stew (6 mussels and 3 v small pieces of fish) which was disappointing as it was v nice and for the same price as a very nice, large megrim sole with a fennel and tomato salad. When we queried it, we were told by our server that “that is why we suggest side dishes” (we had ordered side dishes?) The roast new potatoes were not crispy, they were actually soft. Two ordered chilli margaritas came as one chilli and one standard, so one had to be sent back. Starters and desserts were quite nice. It was a special occasion lunch and it was just a little disappointing as it is a lovely place and we were down from Nottingham visiting a relative and chose Petersham Nurseries over the River cafe. The staff were v nice. a few things fixed could have made this a great review.

They have the finest food around in this Michelin starred restaurant and it comes with a substantial price tag as you'd expect. I'm not sure if anything on the menu can be faulted but the acoustics in the restaurant aren't ideal, when it's full, for us people who are more noise sensitive. The whole area has a bohemian style, which suits me very well.

I've been looking forward to visiting this restaurant for quite some time and booked it as a special birthday treat. The welcome was friendly, but the service initially felt rushed and then became sporadic, with long waits between courses. The venue is undoubtedly the highlight—truly lovely. Unfortunately, my partner and I didn't bring enough layers and felt cold throughout the evening. I had wrongly assumed that a greenhouse in summer would be warm. The food, however, was a significant letdown, especially considering the set menu price, which came to £113.50 including service. We were forced into a three-course meal with no option for two courses, and the wine options were also hugely overpriced. For starters, my partner's burnt apricot dish strangely resembled a breakfast yogurt. My main course, the "Petersham" seafood stew, contained a few mussels and overcooked white fish (possibly cod). The sauce was watery and lacked salt and flavor, making me wonder if anyone in the kitchen had tasted it. It came with a slice of sourdough with poorly piped splodges, which also lacked flavor. For the price, I was expecting a dish with a wow factor, especially one named after the restaurant. The lamb, although beautifully cooked, lacked anything special. Overall, this place had been on my partner's wish list for quite some time, and we decided to book it as a special treat. Sadly, I now feel £260 less well off and quite disappointed. Edit: just to say since speaking to my wife when she booked this it turns out that she was told there was a 2 and 3 course option and it would be more like £65-85. Ultimately the next day I'm still bitterly disappointed and wish I had spent that quite hefty sum of money on something else.

Came here for an anniversary and although the food & setting is great we did leave pretty disappointed. The menu on the website mentions a set menu for £65 for 2 courses and £80 for three, however upon arrival we were given a menu that forced you to have 3 courses for £100 as the only option. We spent over £300 and to be honest the food, service and experience was okay but not worth the price tag. We were celebrating a big anniversary & they made a note of it however nothing was done. This is surprising for a restaurant like this when you're spending so much money. We won't be returning until they sort their pricing out.

Edited review: I had complained about an abusive cancellation policy (they request 48h notice to cancel, and charge 50 pounds per person if you cancel, even if it is the day before or several hours, not a no-show). Following my complaint, they called me to apologised for having been inflexible given that it was a table for two on a very sunny Sunday, so the table was easily filled by other people. They also made a refund of the GPB 100 deposit which had been taken away. I appreciate their gesture and after this, I will hopefully visit them soon.

What a spectacular setting. I was a bit nervous to go because the reviews are so mixed. I would go just for the setting, don’t have expectations. We went on a week day so perhaps the queue was minimal, we were seated at lunch time within 15 minutes. We didn’t make a booking. The food was good enough but not exceptional, portion are small too. The biggest criticism is they do nothing off menu, for example an extra egg or adding/removing something from a dish. This of course then means they are not ready to cater dietary requirements much. They do have options for some dietary requirements but these are as with most places in London still very limited. I would also say the service is mixed bag; we had one person who was wonderful, and another who I could have smacked in the face she was so sour (not inciting violence, this is of course a joke). Despite all of this I would 100% go back and take my visiting family/friends.

Disclaimer - Complain Customer Service Due to an urgent family matter we requested to move the reservation over 30 hours in advance to another day (within next two days). We do understand that the policy states that amendments/cancellations can only be made 48h prior to reservation. Taking into consideration that we not wanted to cancel, but just move the reservation to another day, over 30h in advance, hence a family member had an incident, the charge of 150 pounds in total (50 per person) is absolutely unacceptable. Moreover, we mentioned that we are also only 2 adults and one child, the fact that they would easily fill the table on a Friday midday during midterms and great weather, plus requesting that we would come two days later, so the so called “specifically sourced food/ingredients” would have not been gone off, the customer service treatment and charge is unbelievable. We politely requested to at least charge less for the child, but even that was denied. Urgent things can happen and we do understand the uniqueness of the restaurant and ingredient sourcing, but getting treated like this for a small discrepancy is absolutely unjustified. From a restaurant claiming to have such high standards, this is disgraceful. Customer service should have been more supportive and handling this situation given the circumstances! Very unpleasant and rude experience.

Overall a disappointing experience the expectation unfortunately did not meet the reality. We went for the 3 course option the risotto was not great yet a relatively simple dish. The monk fish was very nice but the dressing was average ..both deserts again disappointing.. The price was the expected cost for the restaurant but failed to live up to the expectation 5.5/10 The surroundings are very nice and has a good feel.

Great ambiance - but food is variable from ok to really not ok. Had the tagliata, (new to the menu) a gristly piece of hard fat meat with no sign of the rare interior normally expected. No wonder really, if I was the chef I would be ashamed and probably try to fry my way out of a terrible piece of meat too. Not good enough. Don’t go.

Putting the price to one side - the food was just not very good, at all. Flavorless, poorly cooked and grey. I’d be disappointed if it was food I got at a wedding. But, we paid over £300 for it. We left feeling like we had been scammed in all honesty. I can’t believe how much they are charging for what comes out. The sommelier was great and the wine he recommended was delicious. Avoid at all costs, unless it’s for a glass of wine.

We went for dinner and while the setting/atmosphere was lovely and the sommelier great. That’s where the positives ended. The food tasted like generic wedding food, the salad had dirt in it - the service was rushed to the point of being rude, with each course arriving within a minute or two of the last plate being cleared. Luke warm and tasting average. All for a ridiculous price tag… A bottle of wine, an appetiser, an entree and a main for two came in at 330 pounds. If it was good food, I’d happily spend it. But this was average at best. If you really want to go, I suggest you walk around the shop during the day and grab a plant, and maybe a glass of wine. Just don’t waste your money eating dinner there.

Beautiful location let down by food. Went a couple of weeks ago and had the same dish as it was really good the first time. Potato and mackerel salad. Second time I went with my husband. He had gnocchi with Ragu sauce which was like baby food and my potato and mackerel salad was awful. Potatos were old and rubbery and there were no chunks of mackerel at all. When queried it with staff they checked with chef who just said it was what it was! I only ate it because I had started so felt I couldn't send it back plus I was having to pay for it. Really disappointed. Was going to bring the family for my daughters 30th birthday but won't be doing that now as there's definitely a lot of inconsistency
