My family booked this restaurant to celebrate my birthday. The service was very good and accommodating and the food, as one would expect, was absolutely delicious. However where this experience fell down was due to the coffee order. Firstly, the time it took to present 4 coffees took nearly 25 minutes!! One order of an Irish coffee took even longer and when it arrived it was stone cold. The barista apologised and made another to her own recipe. As far as I'm concerned an Irish coffee is an Irish coffee! Sometime later this coffee was served but looked like a latte and again was stone cold!!

We had a truly lovely dinner here last weekend - everything was perfect. Our waiter, Anthony, was brilliant - he made us feel welcome and guided us through our choices. The atmosphere is sublime and the food was incredible. My one criticism is that our drinks arrived after the starter. Yes, it’s pricey, but I felt it was totally worth it. You can’t go wrong with the organic beef cheek main.

Absolutely lovely restaurant. Unusual and quirky setting ( including uneven floors!). The food was great - especially loved the scallops with cauliflower mushroom and celeriac as wellas the guinea fowl. Deserts were lovely with great attention to detail. A rare place which can both welcome families and be utterly romantic.

Disappointed to have been refused a table on a Saturday morning after travelling 1.5hrs to get there with our toddler. Got there before the lunch service, only be told we would get a table for lunch but not for a tea and cake. We would have been in and out in 30mins but no effort made to accommodate us. Might as well tell people there is a minimum spend for a table.

Seriously disappointing food. Scallops just two in tasteless sauce and wing. Risotto with Langoustine but no langoustine delivered on either plate. Nice ‘server’ who did nothing, food delivered by surly man instead. Seriously over-priced. We will not return and suggest there are much better options. No idea how they appeared in the Michelin guide.

Service is slow. Sat for 20 minutes before food order was taken. Ordered a cocktail, arrived half way through starters. Ran out of pork, ordered steak, overcooked and only cooked on one side. Served myself wine during the main course as my glass has been empty for 10 minutes, when enquiring at the bar if it was the right bottle for the table, was told to ask the sommelier. When the bill arrived, for the first time, in a very long time, I asked for the service charge to be removed.

4.4 This is a combined review for two visits in quick succession. Our first visit was for lunch and we had a wonderful time, the food was delicious, perfectly cooked and well seasoned. We particularly enjoyed the tournedos Rossini which was a great retro dish, rich, and decadent and perfectly cooked. We were so impressed that we took friends for dinner a few weeks later but this visit was not so successful. The restaurant was very busy and standards had definitely slipped, the menu was the same but the cooking was nowhere near the standard of our first meal. The service was excellent and the setting is quite magical but appeared that they are not able to cope with such a high volume of guests and still maintain standards, maybe better for a leisurely lunch than dinner. We will go again as our first visit was excellent and give it another try.

I’ve been walking to the nursery for years and enjoyed the tea, coffee & cakes, sometimes a salad. All those years I’ve wanted to go to the restaurant in the evening. The restaurant decor and ambiance was beautiful and unusual. My starter was delicious and I think our guests enjoyed theirs. I had the beef and not overly impressed with the cream potato. Desserts were delicious. However, the bill was astronomical and I would suggest that people check their bank account before attending.

Incredibly expensive for the average standard of food. Like many others have mentioned, this restaurant has so much potential. The setting is truly exceptional and cosy at night, albeit a little cold in parts of the restaurant. Starters were hit and miss – the risotto was good but felt like it was missing something, and the scallops were similar. For mains, I had to send my steak back as it must have been resting for ages – it arrived barely lukewarm. When it came back, it had clearly been microwaved, so it was hot, but the potatoes were overly crisp by then. The sole was a decent portion but lacked seasoning, leaving it underwhelming considering the price. It’s a shame because the atmosphere is stunning and could really elevate the experience, but the food just doesn’t live up to the setting.

Unfortunately we were deeply disappointed with our afternoon tea. For one you're essentially sitting in a greenhouse with a gravel floor at tiny metal tables. The tables are very tightly packed in, the chairs are uncomfortable and the staff show absolutely no interest in their tables or anyone dining. We had to ask at every step for drinks or food to be ordered and then brought out. There was no conversation from the staff, no one told us what food was coming out or what we were eating, we were not offered a choice of different teas or a coffee or at any time a refill. The cafe was busy and we were ignored .. until they wanted our table back. While the food itself was ok when it came, the experience left a bad taste in our mouths and at £65+ a head (plus a glass of prosecco & service charge), was an expensive afternoon out and not one we'd recommend.

overpriced, low level service, total waste of time and money. First and last time here, me and my wife. Exited by the green michelin star and local and home produce. Asked for a table by the window to have fresh air as was very worm day, the "maitre" seems firstly disappointed by the request and then accomodate us on a very small round coffee table with very uncomfortable hard chairs nearby the glass but not windows and not fresh air sadly. The only comment form the Manager was : "I also love to be outdoors , I have spent my whole life outdoors!" (yes, good to know but I'm about to have a meal in this premises worth minimum £65 p.p. and your staff is too lazy to set me a table under the pergola ) .... Disappointly during the meal finding out that the side tea room costumers where therefore blessed to be served under the pergola as the day was getting warmer and warmer. I then try to find my confort and think only about lovely produce written on the menu. Starters : It wasn't certainly Culatello di Zibello but not even close to a good quality Parma ham that 1 thin slice, I'm from Modena and we have a restaurant in Jersey, we serve Culatta di Parma. The burrata of average quality was cold from fridge temperature. Vanison carpaccio was good, but ridiculously small portion like 7 small thin slices with half pickled blackberry on 3 slices only. Mains : pork loin was pre cooked with an overwhelming bland in taste, with undercooked squash and other roots submerged in overly sweet pumpkin pure. Rib eye : good taste, but full of nerves and with a side of sad "roast" (soggy ) potatoes . 2 dips and boiled kale on the side all full of garlic and coriander , I like both, but too boring, Considering the cost for 1 starter and beef plate at £75 + service charge was a total rip off especially the £65 + s.c. from burrata and pork plate. The £10 non alcoholic drink was a joke, just tasting of tonic water. I'm afraid but I see this tendency in lots of restaurants were the owner is not present, mediocre but overpriced food, Mediocre service, they gave me a wet stake knife and no passion from waiters bringing the plates. No desserts , I had the stand up 2 times to get bill and then the card machine to pay over £170 before to rush away.

I came for lunch in the greenhouse and realised it had all changed since I was here last time (before covid). I had to wait 45 minutes to get a table. (I was on my own). The salad was miniscule and the cake dry. Last time I was there, there were so many beautiful and inspiring plant arangements. This time there were two of them at the entrance, that was it. The rest of the pots looked pretty shoddy and ”forgotten”. The shop that focus on interiors was beautiful though and inspiring. It just felt like profit has become more important than the mission.

If I wanted to spend as much money as I did, I would go to Mayfair London. Food was poor, I had the guinea fowl and it was so over cooked it was like eating cardboard, my boyfriend had charred pumpkin and there was nothing charred about it was raw pumpkin. It had a gorgonzola moose which has obviously been sat out all day and had eventually split. He also had the sole which was pure mush. Bread was okay. Wine by the glass was nice, the ruining factor was the minute our first course arrived we got told they were shutting the bar. This was disappointing as we had been there all it 30 minutes and got told we couldn’t have anything else to drink. We booked a table for 3.30 and by 3.40 we were getting chased for an order (we had 5 separate people come up to us within 10 minutes of sitting down) but know one had talked us through the menu or explained what was good or not etc. my parter and I both work in hospitality so we understand that on a Sunday afternoon you want people gone but this was a joke. If you don’t want people eating or coming in at 3.30 just simply don’t keep reservations open that long- we still had to pay the same amount that people who came in at 12/1 did but I bet they got to have a drink with there meal. Only good thing about this place was the ambience.

Outside toilets which is not fun when it's cold and wet with big puddles everywhere. Ceiling was leaking a bit just above me so got dropped in a couple of times . The food was nice but at £65 for two courses it's overpriced considering my starter was a burrata with roasted figs and my main course was a chicken breast with far too much sauce, a few nuts chucked over the top and some very soggy courgettes on the side. Difficult to get a taxi in the rain as the drivers don't want to get their cars dirty !! Won't be going back or recommending.

Extremely overrated. The food was average I have had better food in restaurants around London that’s tastier and priced better too. I must admit the staff and waiters are lovely except for the manager she is the worst I have come across. We made a simple request to move from the restaurant to the tearoom and she refused and flat out lied to our face that she books staff specifically to the reservation made. Firstly we booked the night before at 9PM, I hardly think you booked a staff member late at night a few hours before our booking. Secondly due to our dietary requirements she could have easily allowed us in the tearoom. We are not leaving the restaurant entirely we just wanted the menu in the tearoom so we can eat what we want. I have traveled around the world to different restaurants and they would have happily allowed us to do. Except she decides to read through the website and everything mentioned on it. Bad customer service in my opinion it would have made much better customer to simply allow us to go to another part of the SAME restaurant. Even if we made a mistake when booking do they not allow for human error? It’s just a restaurant booking not an official document or procedure.

Horrific. Avoid at all costs. I've been to a lot of afternoon teas, and as long as the food is good and service friendly, I'm happy. But this was awful and not worth the price tag. Patisserie Valerie do a better tea and it's £20. Firstly service was the worst I've ever had. Not sure if they were just Saturday staff who hadn't been trained. But we were mainly ignored for most of the time we were there. And we had to ask for clean plates. The food was the worst bit. We are really not that fussy, but it was noticeably bad. The sandwiches are not nice. Soggy bread, grey eggs on the egg mayonnaise. And also, unlike every other afternoon tea I've been too, you don't get refills. But, that was a blessing really as we would not have wanted more of these sandwiches. The cakes were nice and they were the only good part of this meal. I would not recommend it. It's a lot of money for such a poor meal. For the same price, you can go to a fancy hotel in London and get a great experience. This establishment really don't seem like they care at all, just want to make as much money as possible.

I haven’t been here for a few years but used to love it and have previously left solid 5* TA reviews. A small group of us came back for a birthday celebration dinner but did not have the same lovely 5* experience. The food remains outstanding - beautifully presented with great flavour combinations. The quirky atmosphere is also still charming, however I feel they are now resting on their laurels in terms of service and comfort. The wooden chairs were very uncomfortable with a bar that meant you couldn’t tuck your feet under - this would be ok had the table not been so low that we couldn’t cross our legs under it so you’re forced to sit in a perfect upright rather than relaxed positions. Our service whilst very friendly, was REALLY slow - we had to keep calling people over for wine top ups (eventually doing it ourselves) and also to order/let them know we were ready for the plates to be cleared after 15mins sat in front of empties. With a price tag of £165+ per head at the end (with a basic bottle of wine) we would have expected a better quality of overall experience and, sadly, I will not be returning based on this most recent visit.

We went for afternoon tea on 29th August , a voucher number with a unique number confirmed the experience was FULLY PRE PAID including Service charge...was emailed to us beforehand.. On booking to use on line there was no facility to enter the voucher code. Rang instead and was told to just show the voucher on arrival. So returned to on line booking for reservation of date and time , Very unusually you're asked to entrust them with your credit card details so that they can charge you £30.00 per head if you don't turn up , or don't cancel within 48 hours of requested time. We arrived and presented the Voucher and before being seated had to wait while waitress checked our details. Voucher was passed back. You'll be seated on dirty rusty metal chairs with a dirty seat cushion. Similar table without a cloth and on stone strewn dirt floor with a few pieces of broken glass, no protection if it was raining.. Presumably one is supposed to be impressed with this attempt at extreme shabby chic... The sandwiches were tasteless , one selection was red coloured bread that was dried up and curling , the Listed Egg sandwich wasn't there. In general the flavours were confused and without definition. The cakes were so over sweetened so that any natural flavour was completely lost.. During the session the waitresses came round to all there with full trays of unused sandwiches and cakes , there were no takers... Finally, we had finished and the Staff had completely disappeared so we made our way into the adjacent food prep area , no staff there either. So , we left. Subsequently we received a email saying we had been fully charged to the given credit card details , which were only given on the understanding they would be used for a specific purpose We immediately responded providing a copy of their email with the voucher reference. Subsequently three further emails sent with same information, NO RESPONSE and NO REPLY. In short , a disappointing experience in terms of execution, venue and customer service. At up to £65.00 per head not worth it in any circumstances ..

As always the food served in the Teahouse was delicious, freshly sourced and reasonably priced. Despite being busy with lots of people, the staff ensured a quick turnover, working extremely hard to meet everyone's expectations; delivering a friendly and efficient service. Our waitress Kate, was typical of this; working nonstop in searingly hot temperatures (today it was 28°) with a ready smile, dashing here, there and everywhere, in order to make everyone feel valued as a customer. The dining here is divided into the Cafe and the Restaurant. I dined at the restaurant, which offered 2 courses for £69, 3 courses for £79 as part of their lunch menu. The setting was nice, but nothing special. Service was polite. The food is cafe style food at London restaurant prices. It felt expensive, yet lacked care and intention. Most disappointingly, for a farm to table restaurant, there were very limited vegetarian and vegan options, and almost no produce-driven dishes. My entree consisted of a sliced heirloom tomato, good olive oil and 5 croutons. The salad that was an additional £7 was slightly browned (prepped too early in the day) chicory with 6 slices of radish. You decide for yourself if you'd pay £178 for 2 courses with 2 glasses of wine. Next time, I'd go to the Dysart down the road instead. They look like they do stellar food for cheaper. This place seems to just be trading on its name and one too many features in a glossy magazine.

Lovely setting however extremely expensive for what is on offer. A side salad was 7 pounds which was 1 very bitter shredded leaf with some dressing very underwhelming. For the price of a set menu the sides should be included. Main courses were tasty but we are talking about a chicken breast with some lovely sauces a few courgettes not really stuffed as menu indicated for around 40 pounds. Like the idea of spending an afternoon over a special lunch but service was slow and no apologies and that was almost 80 pounds for 6 adults and 2 children under 4 years.

My friend and I dined at the Petersham Nurseries Restaurant after a long walk by the river last night. The atmosphere and ambience and decor is amazing. However the food was a real disappointment. Although plated up well, the food lacked flavour (both the starter and main). Dessert saved the day. Definitely not worth the £90.00 a head! I would not recommend it at all. Lots of better restaurants in Richmond to dine at and spend your money at!

Stopped here for cakes and tea during a hot day so we were placed outside. It was very nice and cosy! The staff was kind although service can be a bit long. The cakes were delicious and the drinks were good too. I had the iced matcha which was very nice. Bare in mind that you’ll probably have to wait during the weekends. You can come by car because they also have a car park.

Eating in these greenhouses in Petersham is a truly magical experience - for the Tea Rooms you can't book but it is worth the wait. However long! Cascades of wisteria tangle around you; everywhere there are flowers and arty distressed tables and chairs. We used to wait in line to make our choices but now it's table service. Unusual choices include the cold, herby pasta, a multicoloured tomato salad, and a perfect piece of quiche. The olive oil tasted so good I bought a bottle to take home. This place is a true sensation and we'll be back and come earlier.

The food and service were superb. It is a lovely atmosphere however I did not like the fact that if choosing to dine outside you are surrounded by dogs. The couple sitting next to our table had two cats. I love animals, I'm a doggie parent myself however I take into consideration others allergies and the simple fact of others including myself wanting to enjoy a meal without pet hair flying around.

A catalogue of errors. They took the crab off even though we arrived promptly at 1pm. The service was not up to scratch and at times non existent. I had to pour my own wine throughout the service. The waiting staff are nowhere to be seen. The steak was over rested so much so it was lukewarm. The bill was wrong. Then we had the head front of house ‘Pia’ trying to argue and coerce us into paying the the most undeserved and un-earned service charge. Seriously?!!! What a complete joke!!! That place lost it ever since chef Greg Malouf left all those years ago and it has not improved to those lofty standards ever since. Positives, wine was good, food was good but nothing special, produce excellent. Oh yes the limoncello was on the house. They’re charging Michelin star prices for sub par food and service. They should go next door to the Dysart and learn a few things. Pia should be fired. Update: I just learned this place is closing. While I’m sorry for the hard working staff losing their jobs, I won’t be sorry to see this place go or the rubbish staff lose their jobs. Good riddance to bad rubbish which is a blight on the Richmond restaurant scene.

Hi, Im from Pakistan and I have been enthusiastically following petersham nurseries on insta for a while. every time i visit london i make a note in dear diary to visit; finally this summer I had the chance. No doubt its one of the most beautiful nurseries I have ever seen. The whole walk around was enchanting. However, our dining experience at the tea house was a huge disappointment. The staff was not at all attentive and we had to do a near vaudeville routine to gain their attention. The dessert I ordered never showed up and upon asking 3 times I finally gave up and when i told the manager this he just very conveniently told me we can take it off the bill and give you the bill. i wanted to eat the dessert!! I think being busy should not be an excuse to just ignore people and get them off your back and send them packing home with a hurried bill. This left a very bitter after taste to an otherwise very beautiful visit.

A very beautiful restaurant nestled within a nursery. It has a shop full of decorative home items and also a variety of plants to choose from. The food was ok, a bit expensive compared to other fine dining restaurants I've been to; I think if they added more portions to the serving then I'd feel it's more justified. A bit noisy as it's somewhat open-air and lots of people visiting. The team was very nice and catered to our needs although some of our requests weren't really granted. It was raining that day, and there were some leaks thru the ceiling which is understandable, but I felt like they only approached a few select customers to ask if they were fine. The experience was unique but I don't think I'd come back for a second time.

We had afternoon tea there and you are looking at 120Pound worth of food and tea in the pictures! If quality of savoury and sweets would have been outstanding or at least great, why not, but everything was very average, partly bland or just too sweet without any surprises. PN feels more like a tourist/Instagram place then a local restaurant. Not worth to go for the food. Enjoy the atmosphere and buy some plants.

We were given a voucher to celebrate our wedding anniversary, unfortunately the evening was not what it should of been. It was 45 minutes before we got any service and the service throughout was terrible, very expensive for the wine tasting and the sommelier was stretched between all the tables in the restaurant (30ish). The food was delicious. Staff really tried to amend the situation but not enough to make it a stress free evening for our wedding anniversary.

Location is just outside of Richmond. You need transport to get there or need to be willing to make the walk. The restaurant is actually set in amongst the greenhouses. Seemed warm enough on what ought to pass for a summer‘s day. Might be cooler if the weather is not at all good. The menu is not fast. And there is a fixed two or three course arrangement. Strongly recommend looking at the menu in advance. Service started as quite eager but was really not totally consistent. The food was extremely tasty. Lots of very local ingredients. It is though quite expensive once you add the drinks.

Poor food and disappointing. Maceral salad had no maceral in it just full of left over roast potatoes. They are not Michelin as the chef has left so they should not be misleading people by calling themselves that. Only good thong was the service.

Overegged, overhyped and overpriced Petersham fancies itself as a haven for gourmets - sadly it fails dismally to provide food which tastes good and doesn’t even look good. A starter described as Cornish crab pasta with nduja had no taste of crab, to say the iron hard pasta was al dente is the understatement of the decade and it was overpowered by the nduga. A main described as fish stew comprised a bowl with a shellfish and a meagre lump of fish in a liquid tasting vaguely of fish with a slice of toast blobbed with aioli resting on top. A vegetarian starter and a main course were both abominations. This place has delusions of epicurean grandeur - but it is decidedly Greggs -like in what it delivers - at a ridiculous price of £100 a head for 3 courses. Avoid like the plague.

Beautiful little oasis. I'm so happy that I found this place back in 2022. It has a cool, country life charm about it, and the staff are enthusiastic and welcoming. The food in both the Teahouse and restaurant is exceptional; and the vegetables are organically sourced from their garden. There are flowers and plants galore to choose from and a cool shop full of interesting artefacts. I highly recommend this place, to put a smile on your face and a bounce in your step.

We wanted to celebrate a birthday. We brought a cake and they charged us £30 for "caking," which is pretty outrageous. In all our meal was nearly £500 for 5 people. First, I had the seafood stew. It came with 3 mussels, a couple of one-inch-square (roughly) cubes of fish, in an orange base, covered with a burnt piece of toast. The whole thing just tasted like something burnt. No other flavour. I filled up with birthday cake and cheese at the end. My dd's falafel ball order was super salty and spicy. The other orders were fine, including the steak. We had an unpleasant surprise because we were going to eat the remainder of the birthday cake at home. But when we got home, we realised they never gave it back to us! They'd given us two boxes but they didn't contain the birthday cake in them. We had only eaten less than half of the cake, so we should have gotten the rest back!

Spent over £400 for 5 people with no alcohol and the food was poor. The steak was nice, but I had the fish stew, which was a bowl with 3 mussels and 3 tiny pieces of fish (about 1-inch square) under a piece of burnt toast in a red base. So shocking. I was hungry so I ate it, but all it tasted of was something burned. No other flavour. (You can find someone else's review about this wretched stew on Tripadvisor.) Looking back, it is upsetting for what it cost. And to make things worse, we brought a cake for my dd's birthday and not only did they charge £30 for "caking" but they didn't give us the cake back! We ate less than half of the cake. They gave us 2 boxes and we thought the cake was in them, but it wasn't. We were in a hurry at that point, as they were taking so long at the end to bring our bill and bring us the boxes, so our fault for not checking. But we were anxious to leave.

Very demure, very cutesy. Yes indeed it is classy...However the quality of the abomination so- called 'Pumpkin-spiced latte' has me distraught. I have been to many Starbucks establishments that have perfected the pumpkin of the latte. Please. Why was the flavoring of the drink tasting rusty and I tasted no pumpkin whatsoever, I was SEARCHING for the taste of pumpkin and avoiding the strong taste of cinnamon to cover the mess that we call 'Pumpkin spice' . Overall, the service of employees was okay and nothing out of the ordinary.
