Fantatsic find. We walked in without a reservation but were sitted without any fuss. The food and service were amazing, we were talking among ourselves that is was my Dad's 70th birthday and at the end of the meal, the head chef came out with a free desert with a sparkler in and played Happy Birthday on the trumpet. What a fantastic place to eat. Visit here at all costs.

The White Lion Inn was recommended to us and we can only pass on the recommendation. The service is great, the owners and staff are very friendly and the food is phenomenally good. You can taste that everything is freshly prepared and we really enjoyed our lunch. It is definitely worth visiting this restaurant and we will go there again.

Absolutely fantastic. Found the white lion by mistake, after a disasterous evening trying to eat in Conwy. We were looking for Aldi and turned next to the pub, we popped in on the off chance of food at about 815pm on the 13th August. It was well worth it. I had an amazing lamb dinner. Hubbie had a burger. Listening to jazz playing in the background. I was driving so took a bottle of wine back to our room. Amazing find. Thanks for looking after us

Lamb nice, as you'd expect. Serving staff charming and genuine. Owner, I presume, less so. No eye contact at all. I don't crave or expect but was markedly different welcome than, locals and regulars. Almost threw veg at my wife. (Only afterwards did we really think about it) He asked charming serving staff to get me mint sauce for my lamb. Was delivered horseradish. Not at all bothered about that but seems main man (host? Hospitality guy?) may have some preconceived views, based on dialectics. Can't think of any other reason you would encourage customers not to return We were just looking for a roast. I love Wales but won't try again. Shame. Good luck to you. A local (average) pub. I found this pub in the internet, and we came since the rating was high. We had the roast & the beef bourguignon and both were delicious. Good selection of Ales and pleasant service make the rest. All in all, fantastic.

I read some great things about this pub so we took a drive out for dinner. The beer is well kept and there is a good choice. The food is your normal pub menu but nicely done. Service is great, no complaints. It just didn't really wow us, there are so many great pubs nearby.

We are staying in the pretty village of Llanelian so popped across the road to The White Lion. Having a dog with us, we seated ourselves in the marquee, however, I believe there is a small area inside that you can eat if you have your pooch with you. After a busy day, we ordered quickly as we were all hungry. I wouldn't normally order a roast but really fancied it, as did my partner. So, two roast beef dinners and two kids meals ordered, we sat with drinks enjoying our surroundings. After a short wait, our food arrived. It's worth pointing out that it all came out together so the kids weren't waiting. So many places seem unable to do this for whatever reason. Anyway, my first impressions were great. A very generous serving of beef, covered (but not drowning) in a rich, meaty gravy, served with roast and new potatoes and a shared veg bowl of carrots, broccoli, cauliflower and red cabbage. The beef was superb. It fell apart and was simply delicious with the gravy. The veg was nicely cooked and very tasty. The dog was very lucky to try some and gave me a look of appreciation. The accompanying horseradish was excellent. I think, possibly homemade. All in all it was a fabulous main and I can't remember the last time I enjoyed eating out this much. The kids both polished off all of their tea. Enough said. We couldn't resist a look at the desert menu and after spying some of our favourites, a chocolate brownie, Barra Brith bread and butter pudding and apple pie and custard were ordered. The deserts were also superb. The Barra Brith bread and butter pudding was " amazeballs". We noticed a steady stream of customers coming in and for a Tuesday night, I think it is testament to the landlord and staff that the pub was so busy. With fantastic service and superb food, we cannot wait to go back and would highly recommend this lovely country pub.

This is such a lovely pub with lovely staff, but unfortunately the food is so over priced and basic, I had seafood linguine, which was basically fish with pasta there were no mussels, squid or clams and cost £19. These kind of prices are charged in high class Italian restaurants. I would definitely go back for a drink but definitely would not be dining in there.

Delicious food, promptly served by welcoming staff. A beautiful surrounding area, perfect for families.

Stopped here for lunch earlier with my husband and parents. Our parents both had a sandwich and portion of chips each, and my husband had a burger. No complaints about the food, my lasagne was absolutely delicious, if a HUGE portion which I somehow finished! The total bill came to around £80 which I thought was excessive for what we had. We will probably return.

Visited for a Sunday roast dinner. The staff was very friendly and helpful, especially since we had a person with special dietary requirements. Food was nice and was served quickly.

Found this pub on our visit to colwyn bay. Although not in centre it is well worth a visit. We had Sunday lunch and 1 of us had the pie of the day. Extra gravy asked for and no problem. Extra hot food and plates. Puddings to die for and again Extra toffee sauce. Staff very friendly and couldn't do enough. We hope to go back next time we are in Wales. Lovely old pub.

Unbeatable place! Very attentive and pleasant staff! A 10. If you know Spanish gastronomy and are visiting Wales, the food is very good in this place. I recommend it to you! Supreme quality! The White Lion is EASILY the best restaurant in North Wales for Sunday lunch.Situated in a pretty little village next to the local church .The White Lion is at least 400 years old and is very atmospheric.I had roast lamb roast with properly cooked vegetables.The lamb melted in my mouth and my knife cut throught it like a hot knife through butter.Other places the lamb is stringy fatty and cant be cut with knife one needs a hacksaw.My family had meatballs and roast beef repectivley.Food was served by delightfully friendly and effecient ladies.I highly recommend the White Lion.

Fabulous pub in a lovely village setting

I last visited 20 years ago and the decor has not changed, the bench seating could be used as a trampoline it is that bouncy 🙈 £8.50 for chicken liver pate. The pate was tasty but quite dry, and for the 8.50 you get 3 small slices of Melba toast (I suspect from a packet) and no chutney which you would usually expect to come with it. Main course steak and ale pie. Full of meat, it was good quality but very little flavour except the gravy which was delicious. Chips tasted better than they looked but they were quite dark. £18 a main. Pudding couldn't fault, gorgeous Eton mess and brownie. Staff were friendly, service was quick, lovely pub for a summer afternoon outside. I wouldn't rush back though sadly as the food was edible but I wouldn't say tasty/flavourful.

Quiet bar when we visited. Food was good. Staff are very friendly. Only dog friendly in the snug which will only hold approx 2 people & 1 dog (unfortunately only dogs outside)

i ordered a fish and chips. the fish batter was quite salty. the food came in quick and was very fresh and tasty. the chips were hot and crispy and very fluffy in the inside. the fish was really good aswell. the staff were amazing 🤩 will most definitely be going back.

Admittedly it was approx 1.30 on a Wednesday afternoon and so very quiet, however staff were friendly and the food was good, the big downside was it was listed as dog friendly and that it really wasn’t. You can’t call being in a tiny room when you got hit when the door opened and there being just one small table with 2 chairs, dog friendly, don’t know what they do if there is more than 1 couple with a dog (or a big dog). I do wonder if they only showed us in there in the hope that we wouldn’t stay.

We had an amazing meal! The quality of the food was excellent. The staff were very accommodating, always smiling and on hand to help with anything. All staff were very knowledgeable about the menu and giving us recommendations. Spoilt for choice from the main menu and special board. The braised steak and sticky toffee pudding are 10/10! Highly recommend! I will be bringing the family back, can’t wait to come again!

£8-9 for a tuna sandwich on tescos own bread, hardly any tuna on it and expected a nice sourdough or fresh bread for price. Cute pub but prices are just ridiculous.

Went to the white lion for a family meal tonight. The scampi was under cooked and slimy . We had two portions of garlic bread ,the first portion was cooked well done but cold. The second portion was just bread with hot garlic butter on top . The chips we ordered were hard and soft and full of eyes not nice at all. Absolute waste of money and will not not come here again .we spent £78 and it was all a waste of money.

I have been going to the white lion, since I was a small child, I have never had a bad meal or service in over 30 years. I took my family last night and the food was excellent, great quality and cooked perfectly, service was excellent, and we all enjoyed the old school friendly atmosphere. Absolutely amazing thank you to everyone at the white lion. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Proper pubs like this are few and far between these days. A real asset to the area. Reasonably priced and a good atmosphere.

This used to be our go to place for decent food. I’d heard from a few others that it has gone down hill recently but wanted to try for ourselves. We popped in for lunch on Valentine’s Day. Starters were fine, mains were just ok but our daughter wasn’t eating her burger. When we tried to cut it we could see why as it was as tough as old boots. Had to send a dessert back as it was so stodgy. Could see from the Yorkshire puds being carried past us that they look as flat as pancakes now. Loved this place but it will take a lot for me to want to go back again unfortunately.

Extremely sadly this place which had become my favourite place to dine and was somewhere I could rely on to take friends and family to has become my least favourite following a bad experience. There was no sign of the Landlord and Landlady on this occasion instead of which it was a younger man in charge whom I suspect is family. As soon as I saw it was him my heart sank only because I knew from one previous experience that he is usually accompanied by a woman who thinks it is acceptable to sit in the dining area while allowing her baby to screech. This carried on virtually from the moment we entered almost until we left. What made it even more embarrassing for me was that the friend I had taken had not been before and I had boosted the place up to her. At several stages we couldn’t hear what the other was saying and we were sat right opposite each other. Apart from this, which would have been enough to put me off anyway, they had run out of several things on the menu including all types of burger, which I was going to have, and the cheesecake. I chose instead the steak and Guinness pie which in itself was ok but the chips were undercooked and hard as a result as were the peas. I am usually cold anyway but even my friend agreed the place itself was really cold. I began by saying “sadly” but the real sadness for me is that I won’t be going again.

We've not been to The White Lion for quite a long time. The first thing that struck me as we walked in was that wonderful 'open fire', wood burning smell that immediately wraps you in a welcome. With a reserved table, we found ourselves just off-centre of the fire. That was it, I settled in! A couple of pints of Four Signs beer and (for me) a plate of Somerset Chicken and I was very happy indeed. Great company and much conversational laughter kept us at our table for 4 hours! For birthday party groups be prepared to be played 'Happy Birthday' ... the landlord brings out his trumpet; you're welcome to join in the singing. We had a wonderful time. Good food, diligent staff, great beer, the heat of a fire, and friends. I needed no more.

Went to celebrate hubby's birthday, and what a treat. Food and service was excellent. Fully recommend this lovely historical inn, dating back to 14th/15th century, and will definately return. The amount spent included 2 main meals (large portions), 2 desserts and a bottle of red wine.

Christmas dinner at The White Lion Inn was fabulous! The food was beautiful and my family filled their boots there was so much . The atmosphere was warm and welcoming with log fires burning , we all felt very relaxed. Simon and Nina our hosts were very hands on and their staff were attentive , polite and nothing was too much trouble for them… We had some special requirements which were accommodated without fuss so we all sat back and enjoyed a feast, three courses of delicious food and wine. We all appreciated the hard work put into such a big day. Thank you everyone at The White Lion Inn for a lovely Christmas dinner.

Where do I start? The owners / staff were extremely rude especially the elderly man. The pub states it was dog friendly but it wasn’t at all, we turned up to the pub with our two dogs after a long walk and we got told we could only sit in the snug area which unbeknown to us is a tiny backroom. Not at all accommodating so we left immediately.

Underwhelmed Christmas Day Dinner Firstly they increased the price by 30% on last year, to £85 but if it had been as good then OK,when the tray of vegetables arrived I joked is that mine and what about the other 3 😁 .but the main course was very tasty . £5.95 for a pint of larger is expensive for this area and £6.50 for small house white again not great value. They squeezed 90 in to a venue that would have been more comfortable with 70 and I'm sorry to say that it had no Christmas atmosphere and no table decorations and just feel it was poor value for money for what they charged. We got the feeling it was all about a fast buck and to make the highest profit from their outlay and I say this as someone who is actually in business, so I know that profit is important. I would like to think that my commitments will be taken onboard .

A very enjoyable Christmas meal. Lots of meat and delicious gravy. More vegetables would have been nice (2 sprouts for example). I had prawn cocktail which was lovely, beef dinner and Elton Mess made with passionfruit. Staff were super and very friendly. Highly recommended and we will definitely be going again.

Best fish pie ever. Great landlord and staff, local musicians have a bluegrass honky tonk jam up there every now and then, well worth a visit.

Lovely location although needing own transport to reach it if staying in town. Great menu and lovely food well presented and tasty very tasty. Very friendly staff and award winning old fashioned place nicely out of the way but so well worth the visit. Went on a recommendation from our B & B hosts and so glad we did. Service was quite laid back but not slow and you were not made to feel that you should just eat up and go as you are in some venues. Would most definitely go back again if living closer.

Found this place on a google search when looking for best roast dinners. Off the beaten track & a has higher rating than more expensive establishments in the area So glad we tried it. Lovely pub with a roaring fire. The food & very friendly service more than lived up to the reviews. Best Sunday roast we've had for years. We will definitely be back.

Just had dinner the food was great as was the staff.

The setting for this pub is one from a novel, in a lovely village high in the hills with outstanding panoramic views of the coast. The pub itself has a very traditional feel with open fire place and country style quaint and nostalgic feel. Straightforward options on draft no faff. Everthing on the menu is spot on. There is gluten free options available you just need to ask when ordering. Wheel chair access seems to be restrictive due to the old style of the building. Staff and management do their at most to make you feel welcome.

What a fantastic find this place is, food was excellent with good size portions. There were 4 of us and we each had a different main course and pudding. We were all amazed at the quality. Great atmosphere. Service was second to none. Go for the blueberry Eton mess.... wow

I read really good reviews but my experience did not live up to this. I hate not being able to leave a better review but overall was really disappointed.

Food: I ordered a beef main course from the specials board which was well cooked and served with a delicious gravy. This was priced at £18.95 which I thought was expensive considering it is basic home cooked food. My friend ordered a chicken curry which looked and tasted very bland. Definetely a bad choice. Drinks: Tried two different white wines, both tasted nasty and extremely cheap. Couldn't finish this glass so I ordered a glass of red which was better but not cheap at around £9 a glass. My friend ordered a glass of rose wine from the menu. When it arrived it tasted like a very cheap zinfandel, which they also sell. Waitress insited it wasn't zinfandel but it clearly was ;-) Wine prices way too high for the quality being served. Décor: Very old fashioned, tired and depressing. I would suggest it needed a refit 20+ years ago. Chairs were also very uncomfortable and lighting harsh and uninviting. I wouldn't return for this reason alone.

Wow, if you want a bit of the real old wales with Great fresh food, then your in for a treat. The pub reminds me of a pub in a great old film, in a good way. (The Slaughtered Lamb, in American werewolf in London). large open fire and a Great atmosphere. The food was scrumptious. I cant wait till i return. I will be telling everybody I know.

My nephew and I went here one lunchtime. The Service was excellent as was the ambiance. Most of our meal was excellent, my nephew had the goat’s cheese starter which he enjoyed followed by the feather of beef from the Specials menu which he said was excellent. My main course was the roast pork dinner which was just the right amount of food for me with loads of accompanying vegetables, also excellent. However what let the meal down for me was my mushroom risotto starter which was exceptionally dry and is the only reason I could not give a five star review. We will definitely return but I will chose a different starter next time.

This is literally my home away from home, it's such a relaxing atmosphere with great staff who take being at your service to a next level. The owners Nina and Simon are lovely and as for the well its absolutely beautiful. The food is some if the most flavoursome I've had and for anyone who likes fish I would STRONGLY recommend the fish pie it's out of this world.

I think the photos speak for themselves! School dinners from the 70’s. Lovely grease all ‘round the roast beef and bought in Yorkshire pudding. The dessert!!! Words fail me.

We have eaten here on a few occasions, and been very impressed with the tasty food, good service & friendly atmosphere. We had family visiting so we booked for Sunday lunch. Whilst the atmosphere was lovely, and the service up to its usual high standard, sadly the food was disappointing. The plate sizes have definitely shrunk!! We all ordered the pork roast dinner. The meat was not as tasty as it has been on our previous visits, and the portion size was significantly smaller. With family visiting again this weekend I am afraid we will be trying another venue☹️☹️☹️

My wife and I visited this place forty four years ago, and decided to revisit. We were encouraged by the good reviews and arrived hungry. I chose the curry while my wife opted for the Somerset chicken. The curry was served with a pappodom over everything with no side plate to put it on. I placed it on a serviette as the tabletop was sticky. My wife's chicken breast was hidden under an ocean of sauce, which surely should be in a boat of some kind. We both enjoyed our meals but thought 8 chips does not constitute a portion. Deserts nice hence the three rating.

Your pie and chips is now served on a side plate. You will get no more than 11 chips on your side plate. We had to ask for extra chips and extra gravy, both of which we were charged for. The meat inside the pie...
