Led to the Old Stag by previous holiday maker recommendations whilst staying locally at Woodies Glamping ( also fabulous) we’re so glad we went. We had our grandchildren with us two very fussy eaters aged 6 and 11 and a 19 year old. Real home cooked food Welsh lamb local beef and pork this hunting lodge style pub and menu did not disappoint. Well cooked real food all cooked to perfection superb puddings and wine list fabulous host and staff everything you hope to find and seldom do. If your local don’t waste your time else where go to the best The Stag I promise you won’t be disappointed make sure to book ahead as it’s very popular.

We had a lovely experience here. For the last night of our camping trip exploring the West of Wales we decided to come to this lovely pub very close to our campsite. I called to see if we needed to reserve, and a table was set aside for us. We were made to feel so welcome as were our 2 little dogs. The landlady was super friendly as were the other staff that we met. The food was amazing, and the portions were generous. The lamb trio was enjoyed by my husband and I had the pie which that day was chicken, ham hock, leek and tarragon. All in all a lovely experience and great way to end our time in Wales. Thank you!

Absolutely delightful little pic with an amazing history and some lovely staff. This pub is clearly well loved by locals and tourists alike and the atmosphere reflects this. We stopped by for a roast dinner and were more than impressed! Wish we had a traditional pub like this nearer to us as we would be frequent visitors.

We had a group meal here last night after we had hiker snowdon. It did NOT disappoint! We were greeted by the wonderful bar staff who made us feel very welcome and sat us in a lovely little nook. The whole interior is beautifully done and feels very cozy. Drinks came quickly and we ordered off a really well thought out menu. Maria came to chat to us while we waited for our food and gave us plenty of recommendations for things to do around the area. The food.. oh my God. I don't know if it was because we were all post hike ravenous or what but the food was INCREDIBLE. We had the loaded fries which were so so good. And then I had the lamb pie which was just delicious. All in all, the whole group were silent during the meal because the food was so good, and everyone walked away with a full tummy. Thank you for a wonderful meal 😋

Amazing food and lovely staff. We stayed in the village and ate there most days. Food was lovely and portions very generous. Staff were great, and good water and treats for the dogs. Highly recommended!

We booked a table on Sunday, expecting a lovely Sunday lunch. Oh dear what a disappointment. Firstly we waited 40 mins for our meal, and there was only 3 tables in. The food was v disappointing for a Sunday lunch. The lamb was tough, certainly not welsh lamb, no taste, cauliflower hard, and the rest of veg separately in a bowl looked like it had all been cooked in 1 pan, just one big mess. My partners lamb was mainly fat, so they brought him different slices, which was better. When paying at the bar, the lady in charge, which I presume was the proprietor, didn't even ask us, was our meal OK, or did we enjoy it. If asked, I would have told her. Saying that I did express our big disappointment to our waitress. We are local people, but will never return, for food, but possibly pop in for a drink if passing.

We discovered The Old Stag during our Welsh Ancestry search, in the 1800’s the Innkeeper was my wife’s ancestor so we had to go and see it for ourselves. Great atmosphere, lovely people and fantastic food make this a hidden gem. We’ll definitely be back.

Brilliant fantastic food and beer's

Stayed at a nearby Air BnB, arrived late in the evening and popped to The Old Stag to place an order for a takeaway around 8:45pm before the kitchen closed at 9pm. Service was excellent, staff very welcoming and friendly, and food was made promptly, and piping hot. Ordered a fish a chips and chicken in a basket and both were absolutely Devine! Once we got home from our holiday I realised I had lost my handbag and called the pub on the off chance I’d left it there. Thankfully someone had handed it in and they very kindly posted it the next day, everything still in the bag! Would highly recommend The Old Stag if you’re after some delicious pub grub and friendly service.

A lovely traditional dog friendly pub. Lots of old quirky items hanging from the ceiling. We were warmly welcomed by friendly staff,that looked after us. Even the dog was served his own bowl of water. We all had a delicious meal.. The sticky toffee pudding was fantastic. Would definitely recommend and return.

This was a pub our family enjoyed for years. We’d travel 20 odd miles to eat here, take in the quirkinesses and enjoy the lovely food and surroundings. I arrived alone this time and I was made welcome the second I walked through the door. An absolutely fabulous and delicious roast dinner, vegetables cooked to perfection and then the best crumble and custard ever! Thank you for keeping this gorgeous pub alive.

Called here for a pint and a meal after a walk around the area. A lovely meal and a nice drink with very pleasant stuff which certainly come here again.

We had two pies of the day which came with chips, vegetables and gravy there was so much we had to ask for a doggy bag. Nice pub to drop into on our holiday and great find. We were made welcome and so was our dog with biscuits and water. Thank you.

Had a lovely meal here on 10th May. Busy Friday night but staff were amazing in their efficiency. Drinks were prompt and so was the food. One of the nicest meals we've had. Atmosphere was buzzing.! It was our first visit here and great that it was dog friendly too.

Brilliant food service and atmosphere

We stopped by for lunch on our bikes and the Hostess was lovely, as was the food. The place was charming and surprisingly busy for such a small remote village, although it was bank holiday Sunday lunchtime. I'd recommend booking in advance.

Went for the first time since before COVID the food was delicious as usual 👌 great atmosphere friendly and welcoming this pub is old fashioned and it's like walking back in time when you walk in the door maybe not to everyones taste but we love it there

Absolutely gorgeous country pub. The people could not have been more friendly, the atmosphere was lovely, quirky interiors along with classic pub vibes. And the food was AMAZING! Me and my partner both had the beef & chilli burger and their local larger was so yummy (purple moose) 10/10

Honestly, what can I say about a place that borderlines perfection? Firstly, its location is beautiful. Lovely little Welsh village which, okay can make parking tricky (although there is a designated car park just past the pub and on the left), but it really is beautiful. Inside is incredibly cosy, with all locals within really welcoming. The staff, too, were superb and really made you feel at home. Their service was very quick, even though it was absolutely packed to the rafters! The food was stunning, a chilli burger with homemade chips was just £14.95, with two starters and two mains, with 3 drinks, totally only £45. Super value for money. Honestly just an all-round fantastic visit, fantastic people and fantastic food. Can’t wait to come back! PS. Make sure to ring ahead as a precaution, we managed to get the last table, so if you plan to go with more than two, book! Thanks for a super evening all.

We came for the first time as it was recommended, and it didn’t disappoint. The place itself is so quirky and there’s so much to look at! We got a drink and food menus at the bar, and sat next to a log burner on big comfy seats. The waitress brought over some extra logs incase we needed them. We ordered and the food was great - I’d highly recommend the chicken in the basket. We finished by sharing THE BEST STICKY TOFFEE PUDDING I’d ever had - would definitely return 🙂

We came for food ( 4 of us) and it was absolutely incredible from start to finish. Maria ( owner) was lovely and chatty. Her husband is the chef, and we saw him chatting with people too. Their son was behind the bar and was so helpful with choosing the wine, which was a melbec and equally lovely. The food was huge and by far, the best pub food we have ever had and we are all in our late 40's to early 50's, so we've eaten out a lot. I can't recommend this amazing place more. You MUST try and we are already planning a trip back there.

We spent a weekend in this town and every evening in this pub, it checks all the boxes I highly recommend. Amazing staff, great live music, plays the rugby, super friendly group of locals, delicious buttermilk chicken thigh burger, 10/10 Guinness

10 of us went for food. The service was excellent with all the meals coming out on time. No complaints from any of us and we will definitely be going back.

It's a lovely old pub with lots of character. 3 of us had a fabulous Sunday lunch. Pork, Beef and Lamb. All absolutely superb quality and generous portions. The staff were very friendly and efficient with a special thanks to Lucy who was more than helpful. We fully recommend this place and will be returning very soon

Amazing! I would give more stars if I could. Staff all very polite and accommodating for us and our dog. Offered water and biscuits for the dog as soon as we sat down. They even chopped up a sausage for him to cool down before it got to our table. I had the mushroom fajitas and omg! One of the best meals I’ve ever had! It’s a good job we live so far from here or I’d spend all my money here.

The vibe was great, food great but the staff brings this review straight down, one staff in particular who was extremely rude towards the other staff as some would class it as bullying, which the rest of my family agreed with. Unsure of the name but she worked on the bar, this has put me off coming again.

Another great visit to the Old Stag - varied tasty food at good value prices. It was Boxing Day and a group of twelve of us, everyone enjoyed their meal - just didn’t leave enough room for desserts! Lucy and the bar staff looked after us well.

This is a really great wacky old pub in a lovely village. Ceilings and walls covered in stuff from a stuffed crocodile to stags heads, skis, and all sorts of metal objects. Landlady Maria from Tipperary is all the hostess you'd want and the food is great and super value especily if you've got a huge appetite!

This pub is a little gem and is a credit to Maria and the team. The pub is completely traditional and not the usual chain pubs that you find everywhere today, the food is delicious so much so we changed our plans to come for a second night, local beer on draught which is also a bonus. Maria is lovely and makes the pub feel like home, she is so friendly and nothing is an issue for her, will definitely return when we are next in the area

The fish was amazing , hot food, the only thing that was unusual was peas in a little pot, for me that doesn't work just get them on the plate much better look, but other than that really good, PS great fire to warm up too.

Countryside cozy pub with delicious food and great service. Visited Sunday for the first time to enjoy family roast dinner that we could not fault, the roast beef was fantastic and melted in the mouth. Large portions plenty of meat and vegetables in a separate dish. Highly recommend and will be back soon.

Fantastic wee pub with excellent food and friendly staff. There was 7 of us and we ate here while staying in this lovely village. None of us could fault anything about this place. If eating at the weekend, recommend that you book as it gets busy due to its excellent hospitality and food.

This is a real, authentic country pub - what many themed pubs try and achieve but fail, this is the real deal. Had a Sunday lunch which was top notch, well cooked and good portions-no bland frozen veg here! Great and genuinely friendly service too - beer (2 x real ales both in great condition) was most enjoyable. Highly recommend this place as a truly independent pub keeping it real. Enjoy!

Walk in to have something to eat. The guy on the bar greeted us right away and got us sat. He recommended us some local gin which was really nice. Our server came over and took our order. She was extremely pleasant! Food came out quickly. Service from both our server and the guy on the bar was fantastic! Super friendly! Would definitely come back when we are next in the country!

Wonderful place warm and welcoming great atmosphere serving good food the sausage n mash are a must try (make sure it's the locally made sausage) . Landlord n lady are always pleasant and the staff are too love the place. I am still eating here and 5 years on I still love it, however, I am disappointed that consistency isn't maintained, chicken in a basket (my favourite) for example you used to get 3 pieces of chicken, now you only get 2 but the price has increased.

After visiting The Old Stag numerous times for different family events over the last 5yrs, sorry to say I will never be going back, after the apoling service and attitude we had last night (16th September), place our order and when the mains came out one was wrong, the attitude of the waiter's was awful, no apology just let me check, then was accussed of ordering wrong, not sorry I took the order wrong, then the so called manageress, spoke rudly to my partner when I'd pop to toilet. When ask to speake to her, was basically told we upset the waiter's and it was our fault we ordered wrong.. then to too it off of of the locals stuck her oar.. probably getting free drinks now....

Right across the road from our guest house, a really friendly pub which although they couldn't find our booking they made a table up immediately, the food was very good, we weren't mad on the starters the prawns were a bit dissapointing but the mains were excellent, best pie in the country we'd definitely come back

The food was amazing, I have to go back for the lamb which had all gone, clearly a locals pub, but all the people where amazing and the staff super friendly. Looks like we behaved dogs are allowed in too. As a person walking on crushes access was easy. Although parking can be ljmitef See you all soon. Xx

We visit this pub when we can, the food is absolutely amazing, always piping hot and fresh, great portion sizes and great value. Would recommend to anyone. Lovely landlady and staff too.

Went to the Stag after a day at Hafodunos Hall. Apparently they were short staffed that day but you’d never have known. The lady who served us was so lovely, nothing was too much trouble and despite it being so busy, she didn’t rush us at all. The food was delicious, cooked to perfection. The veg arrived in hot dishes, so stayed hot. I’m not a veg fan but I would be if mine tasted like that! Highly recommend the sticky toffee pudding and butterscotch sauce too, incredible! It was under £20.00 for two courses, which is very reasonable, more so because of the quality of the food and how beautifully it was cooked and presented. 10/10 from me and my family. Can’t wait to go back.

Definitely recommended. Had a lovely meal here, great value and massive portions. If it hadn't been our last evening in Wales, we would definitely have come here again. There's so many options to choose from on the menu. Added bonus - it's dog friendly! It was quite busy when we went in, think we were lucky to get in when we were did, so would recommend booking to guarantee a table.

I feels like it's a real shame that certain aspects of our family visit was not up to a good standard. That being said we did receive a warm welcome at the door when being seated. In my eyes cleanliness is everything when there is food being served, however the carpet had food all over it and squashed into it, the table was rather sticky and the toilets where an absolute disgrace with a foul odor of urine and dirty surroundings. The whole place needs a thorough clean to be honest. A few of my family members had the roast dinner which came to the table with over done Yorkshire puddings and two tiny roast potatoes. None of us left feeling satisfied or that the meal/surroundings where even remotely pleasant, such a shame for a pub/restaurant in a nice location, very disappointed, a waste of time and money.

Absolutely loved this pub. We’re staying in wales for a few nights and this pub was reccomended by our air bnb. It did Not disappoint. So much so that we went back twice! The first time we all got the pie of the day - the pastry was amazing. Then we came back on a Sunday for the Sunday roast which cannot be missed. Huge portions, very tasty. The couple who own it are so friendly, warm and welcoming with time to talk to their customers. Thank you so much for everything.

We visited here while staying locally. We didn't book a table and although they were full the staff moved some tables around to fit us in. The pub is very traditional which was nice and our drink and food orders were taken quickly. I ordered the meat curry and my husband ordered the lasagne. Both were very big portions and tasted fantastic. The night before we also ordered a pizza to collect and eat where we was staying as we had a long drive and arrived late. The pizza was amazing and was ready quickly. Would 100% recommend - remember to book a table!

Great independent, local pub! Would highly recommend if you are visiting/staying in the area. A bit of a wait for food but it was worth it as was clearly made all fresh to order and was delicious. Very good prices too and friendly staff!

We first visited around 10 years ago this is our go to place for food when in that area of Wales. Maria and Darryl are so friendly as are the staff. Food is delicious and well priced. We recently stayed in the fabulous accommodation they offer and just wow they couldn't have been more accomodating. Had a great time and we will be back. Just love it there.

This place is just so lovely. We popped here after a hike on our 2nd day of holiday. The landlady and another lady were so lovely. Such a warm welcome. Would have so loved to come for food but we seem to walk so long and hard all week that we’ve been too tired! Definitely coming back again soon, and a plan to come back to The Stag is top of the agenda!

Great meal at the old stag after a day negotiating the back tracks of North Wales. Lovely food in a relaxing,educational environment. Gill...the lady who looked after us was friendly, witty and thoughtful.....despite multi tasking and taking all the weight on her shoulders. This was our third visit over the last couple of years, and it will certainly be a venue of choice in the future. Thanx Gill... ( Don't work too hard ! )

We have a motorhome and stayed the night in the car park. We had an amazing welcome with the dogs and fantastic big meals. I wasn't feeling very well so I couldn't eat my meal so the lady took my dish and put it in a takeaway container for me Definitely a lovely place to stop over for the night
