We went to the White Lion for my husbands 70th birthday. There was 27of us for Sunday lunch, what a brilliant afternoon we had. The atmosphere was wonderful the food was amazing everyone raved about Jennie’s roast potatoes said they were the best they had eaten. Thank you to everyone that made our afternoon a memorable one.

We booked quite a long time before the date of our lunch and we needed to go to the pub to book because we couldn't get through to make a booking via telephone.

We went for Sunday lunch today with friends. The pub was very busy with a great atmosphere. The Sunday lunch was all home-made, tasty, well presented and generous portions. A large jug of extra gravy was placed on the table and the offer of extra potatoes and pigs in blankets a lovely touch. We had a lovely meal and will be returning soon.

It's always delightful at the White Lion. The food is always delicious and freshly prepared. The garden is great with a stunning, well-kept flowerbed. All the staff are friendly, helpful and cheerful. Brett and Jenny are fantastic landlords. It's excellent in every way and well worth a visit. In fact, it's a pub you'll return to time and time again.

The White Lion is open again, post lockdown and it felt great to be back. Safety measures have been put in place by Brett and his team so the pub and the garden are open for drinks. Not sure about the restaurant. The side garden has come into bloom while we have all been away and the large garden was very welcome on a lovely sunny evening.

Had a great Saturday lunch with friends and the grandkids at the Historic White Lion. Our waitress was smiley, friendly and efficient as she took our order for food and drinks. I had the homemade Chilli & Rice our friend had a Ploughmans. What a feast. The plate was covered with bread and a selection of cheeses and salad and beneath all that were slices of ham served with a dish of 4 pickles on the side. Good food at reasonable prices and the beer's not bad either!!

Had a great Sunday roast at the white lion this is a friendly pub,the new owners have really done a good job of leaving this old pub style the same. The cost of the roast was about £10.50 which was a fare price, Would recommend to anyone who likes a good old fashion pub and a great Sunday roast.

We have just had lunch to celebrate my mother’s birthday, we went for the special chicken & leak pie which I could only have had two pieces of chicken in the pie if it hadn’t been for the fact we were celebrating a birthday I would have complained there and then , I’m giving it three stars because my husband said the beer was good

We visited here as part of a group of 11. They knew we were coming - and it is best to book a table - but we did not pre-order food. We all enjoyed what we had though thought the service a little slow - but it was Saturday lunch time. Good pub atmosphere and the beer was also goo.

Called in the White Lion after hearing new Landlord had turned the pub around. Received a very warm welcome on arrival and could tell locals were already returning. Good selection of Ales and lagers on offer including Timothy Taylors Landlord. There are a host of interesting black and white photos on the walls showing the history of the area including the pub's links with the Peasants Revolt and Wat Tyler .If you know the area check out the photo of The Five Bells (now a Harvester) with the Essex Union Hunt meeting outside.

Hadn't been here for years as used to have a miserable manager and unpleasant atmosphere. Cosmetically it hasn't really changed but the staff are all now lovely and welcoming. Dining area was empty but we did arrive at 12.00. 2 of our party had the gorgeous sausage plait and the other had an enormous bowl of soup. We all had syrup sponge pudding which was also excellent.

This pub is going from strength to strength. The owners have made a great job of the gardens, it is such a pleasant place to sit. Saturday's hog Roast and beer festival in aid of the Hospice achieved just the right note. Tasty HOg Roast at a very reasonable price, huge choice of beers and ciders and a real Village Green atmosphere. Great service from all the staff and, despite it being mega busy, Jenny made time to come and chat with all her customers. Thank you for another great day out. Recently had lunch here with a friend. The welcome was very warm and forneldy and all the staff seemed happy to serve customers. Good selection of Real Ales. The food is nothing fancy but a good choice or tradtional Oub meals, sandwiches and snacks. We didn't reserve a table but got one OK. Enjoyed the food which was freshly made, nice and hot and enough of it.

The unobtrusive but warm welcome at the White Lion adds to the very homely atomosphere of this Old English Pub in the Essex Countyside. The food was plentiful and perfectly cooked and prensented. There is a huge choice, from simple snacks to full meals. The real difficulty is knowing what to choose. The special board was so inviiting, nicely complimenting the regular menu. My only problem was that I had no room for dessert. Now we have found this place we will be regular. Visitors.

Having used the carvery at another local restaurant we decided to make a change. Friends recommended the White Lion, so we booked for Sunday lunch but had to accept a later date than we would have liked because the place is so popular. Our reservation was honoured and having ordered drinks we ordered our choice of roast turkey as the alternative of beef or pork. We didn't have long to wait for what turned out to be a large plated serving of meat, roast potatoes, stuffing, Yorkshire pudding, and mashed swede and carrots together with side dishes of carrots and peas, all served hot. It was all extremely tasty and thoroughly enjoyable. The choice of desserts was excellent including Eton Mess with real strawberries and served on a dish in place of what is usually a tall glass dish. The service was quietly efficient and prompt it was altogether a perfect lunch in olde world surroundings, the White Lion having once been the haunt of smugglers. We'll certainly book again.

My wife and I (who lived in the area over 40 years ago found this pub via Trip Advisor reviews. Fobbing is a pretty little village with an interesting church and spectacular views over the Thames estuary. At the White Lion we were made warmly welcome, and although the pub was pretty full for a Friday lunchtime, space was quickly found; service was excellent; food was extremely good value; and the new landlord was very interesting to talk with and extremely keen to make a success of his new venture and change of career. On the basis of what we found, he ought to achieve his aims. We wish him a great future.Warmly recommended

I loved this place. Haven't been there for quite a while and never eaten there before. The food and atmosphere was lovely. My only criticism was that the fish and chios was off the menu and there were no burgers on the menu. I had ham, egg and chips and it was lovely. Hubby had the special beef stew which he enjoyed. I would highly recommend. It is advisable to book as busy Saturday lunch time.

The White Lion is one of those great chocolate box Tradional British Public Houses with great clean crisp ales and lagers, fantastic new world wines and a traditional atomosphire, if your looking for loud music then look somewhere else. The Bar Lunches are home cooked and will not disappoint and the Sunday Lunches are not to be missed. My favourite ale is the IPA and is kept realy good in fact I have to say the best IPA I have had since the IPA at Grand Central Terminal so in my book is great pint. For a public house that is not out of the way with a wealth of local history dating back to the Peasents Riots and significant history through the ages the White Lion is well worth a visit.

We met up with family members here for a get together away from home. I booked beforehand by phone and they reserved a table for the 5 of us.Lunch is available between 12:00 and 14:15 and the pub stays open until 15:00. We were seated at a round table in a cosy side part of the restaurant area. The menu is quite varied and all of us were able to find a meal to suit our tastes. The food was good and reasonably priced. We were a little late in ordering our desserts as we were deep in conversation, but they were very accommodating and served us anyway. The waitress was happy to take a photograph of us to mark our meeting and the staff were all friendly and efficient. All in all, a very pleasant experience in this little village (Fobbing) just outside Stanford le Hope.

When the present Mrs R & I first got together, some 25 years ago, this was a regular haunt of ours-an Artful Dodger off the beaten track, in the middle of nowhere, full of Old People - bit like being in Norfolk. That was in the 90's, felt like being in the 70's - bit like being in Norfolk. We had Sunday Lunch here last weekend, now we're in the '10s, feels like it was in the 90's - Literally nothing had changed, had the same pictures on the wall - had the same Man & his Dog drinking some exotic Bitter - bit like being in Norfolk. However, that is not to say it wasn't enjoyable - in fact it was very good. To Mrs R's delight she finally found somewhere that could cook vegetables properly. Not much choice but it wasn't needed , we went for Sunday Roast, & Sunday Roast was what we got, & it couldn't be faulted. Desserts a plenty, & huge portions-£8.95 for Main, £4/5 for Afters- Pleasant service. Very difficult to criticise, save for being stuck in a timewarp - but, perhaps that's not a bad thing. Would certainly go again.

This is the second time I’ve been to this venue this year and on both occasions we had a great experience. On this occasion my daughter held her engagement party here and from the planning stage right through to paying the bill, everyone we encountered was amazing. Particular thanks go to Lucia for her on point planning of the event, the chefs for executing such a wonderful menu (the stuffed Yorkshire puddings and fish and chip cones were very good) and Gary and Lucy for their wonderful efficient bar service on the night.
