Great pub!! Back to roots of a real old pub - no electronic devices allowed, so people have real conversations. Great Samuel Smiths ales and beers, all at great prices (£3.20 for a pint of bitter). 👏

Love this place. Will be back. Nice to be in a pub where phones need to be switched off and people talk to each other. It's like a luxury experience in a bothy in the Scottish Highlands but more civilised!

Very strange experience. Was told not to use my phone. I put my phone away and then noticed the woman behind the bar continually glancing at me to make sure I wasn't on the phone. Felt uncomfortable and unwelcome. Won't be returning.

Beautiful pub as it ever was. Good beer as usual. It's changed though, there's a weird vibe with "no phones or tablets" signs clumsily plastered everywhere the eye can see, distracting from the heritage. In various places they've also put up helpful lists of all the things you're not allowed to do with a phone. Texting, Google, apps, Facebook, yada yada. You're not allowed to take or view photos!? I get it, everyone wants a nice social atmosphere. But it comes across as very prescriptive and authoritarian ramming these ban notices down your throat everywhere you look.

OK. It's a Sam smiths so limited to own brand everything. All the usual luddite rules no mobiles laptops etc but strangely you can pay by card so it's OK when it suits mr Smith. Lots of nice rooms all done out in old decor but unfortunately you can't take any photos. Had to sneak one of my beer which at least shows off the type of rooms in the pub. Much better pubs in Beverley

From one of the Yorkshire's best kept secrets, "Nellie's" of Beverley is ruined by an overbearing landlady fixated by rules from no digital devices at all to no children (even well behaved teenagers with family). Believe me, these rules are zealously enforced with an army of surveillance cameras keeping check on every room. This once family friendly famous ancient coaching Inn (a jewel of Samuel Smith's brewery in the North) is a quiet, sterile, unwelcoming shadow of its former self. A great shame but best avoided.

Lady behind the bar working flat out and keeping up with all customers, whilst maintaining a cheery attitude. The pub was warm and inviting and the house rules are brilliant. After furlough of the staff, allegedly taking the Retainer for keeping staff, Humphrey Smith had the audacity to raise the price by at least £1 per pint, no wonder most of the regulars are missing. Greedy Humphrey!! We spend time in London with our family who live there, ALL The Sam Smiths houses ALLOW use of mobile phones, cameras and Internet connections!! We had it explained to us by one of the managers; IF they didn't allow the use of the devices; they might as well close the pubs altogether because there wouldn't be any of the City workers using them!! It's sad to see that some up here in the North ARE closed and some of the closed ones are advertising for new managers!! Humphrey has bitten of his nose to spite his face. Wake up and smell the coffee Humphrey!!

Historical pub in the heart of Beverley. Decent beer and plenty of space to drink it in with a proper log fire to keep the cold out. Gets very full but never waiting long to be served. However this used to be one of the cheapest pubs in Beverley. Now not so much as there has been a massive price hike. Not as cheap as they used to be. All prices have gone up to suit the rest of Beverley. This is a non mobile phone pub, conversation is encouraged instead. No TVs. A veritable museum of a pub! USP... it's working gas lights. Hales Bar in Harrogate is the only other pub that I have frequented, that has working gas lights. This pub is a Sam Smith's, so usual rules and signage and cheap prices apply. Loads of different little rooms, all with wonky floors; lopsided, lifting floor tiles; peeling, flaking ceiling paint, all adding to its unique ambience. Lovely, friendly bar staff, very polite. Quite an experience, if you are visiting Beverley, you can't miss out the White Horse, it's fab and a real talking point. Well done, Humph!

I first visited this amazing pub many years ago and have returned a few times since. It is a remarkable place and well worth visiting to see an unusually unspoilt historic town pub, but it seems unloved and unwelcoming compared to when I first visited it.
