Brilliant food all round. Amazing chips, great fish and batter, great sausages and curry sauce ! Best fish and chips in a while !

The food last night was the best fish and chips I have had for such a long time. The chips were perfect and crisp, the fish and batter was lovely, the sausages were very tasty, the pea fritter was very nice and the curry sauce a big hit. Thankyou so much !

Came in on Saturday, and was served by a lovely lady called Lola. She was very cheerful and smiley and she was extremely helpful and polite and made sure our food was on time. i had 2 medium cod’s and a large chips and it was absolutely amazing would 100% recommend.

Open on a Sunday, friendly greeting, easy ordering and gluten free available. Offered to wrap fish separately, chips were perfect, a bit crispy and nutty. Crispy batter, tender fish, best I’ve had in a while. These guys are pros!

Ordered online. Mistakenly didn’t order it for delivery. So rang up to change. The young girl who delt with it was so accommodating. Completely sorted it for me and didn’t charge me the delivery fee. Delivery guy was great. Food was lovely and will absolutely order again. Thank you

Best fish and I had for a long time

We ordered a takeaway on Monday evening. 3 medium cod and chips 1 fish cake 1 cod bites 1 curry sauce 1 mushy peas And 2 drinks We decided after collecting our fish and chips from Whistlers in Westbourne we would pop to Emsworth and sit along the Oyster trail to enjoy our meal. When we got there we opened our meals and went to tuck in, batter on the fish was congealed gloop and tasted like butter, immediately spat out!! The mushy peas were stone cold as was the curry sauce. The chips were rubbery and again spat out, tasted like they had been cooked a few times in dirty oil. We contacted the takeaway immediately to be told someone would be in touch, we even said we will bring the meals back and show you and manager said no throw them in the bin, which we did! I emailed as I hadn’t received contact with photos attached, to be emailed back, with the owner agreeing the food looked bad and offered another meal on the house, we requested a refund, to be told this couldn’t be done! Completely disgraceful after we had spent nearly £50 on food that just went straight in the bin! I phoned back today and again told over the phone we couldn’t get a refund. We should have gone to Mother Kelly’s in Emsworth.

We always use Whistlers , as usual the fish was superb, a good sized piece of cod with nice flakes and a crispy batter . The chips were perfect lovely flavour . It was also not greasy at all. Top job Why four stars ? Onion rings ! £2.10 for six small under cooked soggy , greasy mush. They ended up in the bin. Awful is the only description. I will not buy them again. But will be back for fish and chips .

Ordered cod roe which was cooked fresh but was burnt black on the bottom. Chips were also overcooked and hard. Portion size is minimal. Very disappointing won't be going there again

Fish nuggets are sensational. One of the few takeaways that offer gluten free options. Crispy batter, not super greasy. Very filling kid meal options also!

Popped in first time because of good reviews,must of been unlucky because meal seemed to be cooked in old oil or double cooked.shame.

Very disappointed I asked for a medium portion and it looked like a small portion the chips looked like they were double cooked as very crispy and threw most of them away they need to change there oil chips and battered sausage was very dark in colour

Very disappointed. I ordered a LARGE fish and chips, and mushy peas to share with a friend. However, once home I got instead a SMALL portion of overcooked fish and chips. I cannot imagine what you get if you bought a small portion, a scrap and fish flake?!

Great food but only 3 stars due to the wait times. In the 20 mins I waited they only served 2 other customers. It wasn't even busy but the staff working there seemed more interested in their phones than serving customers.

I live in Emsworth, south of the train line, so when a young friend asked me where the best chippy was in the area, I said Whistlers always was, but that was pre-covid, I wasn't sure now. Upshot of the story...They are STILL THE BEST CHIPPY!! Fish piping hot, encased in just the right amount of crispy batter, chips perfectly cooked. Absolutely delicious!!

A very understated fish and chips shops. The staff have always been polite and helpful, the turn around from order to food being cooked is always quick and the chips are some of the best chips i've ever eaten - 100% would recommend!

I popped in for dinner lunch and was meet with a warm welcome by Emma and her team. Good was freshly cooked and they kept me informed of the progress. Food tasted great and I will be going there again.

We’ve lived in Emsworth for 4 years and have used Whistlers everytime but very doubtful I’ll use them again. Tonight we ordered our normal but the portion size has dramatically decreased in size. What you’d expect for a large chips and regular chips was enough as a large. The regular chips was that small it filled a 3 year olds plate! I phoned up and the guy who put the order togethers customer service was rubbish. The management need to realise the portions being packaged up and brush on their customer service. It looks like this isn’t the only complaint recently.

For the 2nd time in a row incomplete order discovered when got to my parents home. Once is unfortunate, twice is inexcusable. So do not recommend. Avoid.

This is our usual chippy but the last 2 times they have messed something up. The young lad behind the counter at lunchtime today was very patronising and rude. The last time he missed something off the order and this time the price didn't match the price list on the board at all but was told "that's the price". This used to be really good and a friendly place but both the quality and service has gone downhill.

My usual chippy in Emsworth was closed so tried here. I won’t use this place again. The chips were soggy and the fish was dry, probably overcooked, also there was a huge bone in one of the fish. Altogether a very disappointing and rather unpleasant experience

Been using Whistlers for years but sadly that’s the last time. Your standards are going down. The last twice the quality of the fish has been poor, this time worse than last! Fish was very dry. Either overcooked or been left in the heater for too long or both! Either way it was pretty nasty. Used to be the best chippie around but sadly is now probably the worst!

Food was served quickly and was hot. The atmosphere was good and the staff were friendly. Food was good value for money.

By far the best chippy in the area. The chips are always a little crispy which adds to the experience and the batter on the fish is really nice. More than highly recommend this place. I had a small cod and chips with curry sauce which was more than enough for me.

This fish and chip shop has very friendly staff and and everything is cooked with care and perfection and so freshly cooked and taste excellent. I have been here three times now and have enjoyed it very much and looks forward to going back for more well done all staff there 👍

Went on a Saturday so got our food with a good time. It was a big order 7 people about £75. Got it home and unfortunately the batter on all the fish was very soggy, most of it got stuck to the papper. Burgers I were told good but low quality buns. Chips were nice. I was looking forward to visiting as I had heard vert good things about Whistler's, but that was not the case. They are looking for a lot of staff atm so that could be a issue.

The worst fish and chips we have eaten. Everything was over cooked, chewy and dry. I can’t understand how chips could turn out so badly. Such a shame we had high hopes. I think it may have either been re-cooked or perhaps old oil used.

Just had fish and chips tonight 01,08,23. Brought 2 medium cod 1 large sausage in batter and large chips. The cod was small and burnt the batter was black in places and didn’t even cover the the fish, and was soggy not crispy. Very disappointed as they have not dropped the price to match the quality of the fish

Just bought some chips at lunchtime and they were clearly recooked.Had to throw them away Will not use this fish and chip shop again.

I ordered for a delivery when it arrived part of my order was wrong I called the shop and spoke to a woman who seemed annoyed that I called about it. She said they'd send a new burger which arrived 30mins later upside down in its box so I'm guessing it was begrudgingly made! I was wary about eating then because I wasn't sure what they had done to it. Poor service.

The worst service and experience. We’re told it would be a 15 minute wait, we waited just under 40. No apology for the wait once we eventually got the food. Once home, the items we ordered were burnt and wrapped awfully. Would never go go and would not recommend!

Oh dear, oh dear. Their fish and chips are usually top notch - good fish, fantastic batter and perfect chips. But service has always been on the slow side even when ordering in advance. Ordered to pick up between x.00-15 minutes, eventually ready at 35 minutes past - maybe it was cooked fresh, but no, some of our food had been waiting in bags since we arrived. Two of the cod we ordered also looked and tasted very much like haddock. But by then, we couldn't be bothered to wait another hour to go back and get what we ordered.

Lovely! Massive portion of chicken! Curry sauce is more like proper curry sauce and not chip-shop curry sauce but very nice.

Ordered GF fish, chips, 1 gf chicken curry & 1 tegular, the currys exploded in the bag. I was abrupt with staff for a hot minute but shop were quick to help ~ I apologised for my rudeness and they were so kind 🖤

Very Dissapointing - this is not my normal chipshop but thought I would give it a try. £10.25 seemed alot for chips 2 sausages curry sauce and a bread roll but I gave it the benefit of the doubt because I don't mind paying for a good product. Got home to find the battered sausage had lost all its batter in the 4 minute car ride home or more likely they got the order wrong. Secondly I turned out my portion of chips onto the plate. 19 chips. That was how many chips constitutes a portion. I would be very suprised if it equated to more than a single potato. The curry sauce despite having a nice flavour was stone cold. I wish I could put it down to the shop being busy but I was the only one in there when I ordered and no one else visited whilst I was waiting. Hopefully this was a one off but may be a while before I try again.

The team are all very helpful and efficient and the fish and chips that we had delivered were really lovely!

Too many chips per portion. Too much charged. Portion could be smaller and much cheaper. My budget allows fish OR chips. Not both.

Very nice local chippy, good selection of fish all cooked to order. Update Jan 2023: it’s a shame, last two delivery orders have been let down by missing items, most recently only half the order turned up! The funny thing is the order is stapled to the bag listing every item but apparently no one is checking? Real shame, loved this chippy but service is really suffering lately. Hope this is a temporary blip? I’m giving 3 stars because they at least came back with the missing meal within half an hour…

7/1/23 Went to get fish and chips, sausage and fish cakes. Unfortunately the shop appears to be so inundated with uncontrolled online orders and system breakdowns that the walk in wait was over 45 mins. I wish they told us as I would have walked out. Even those that had ordered online and arrived on the set time still waited 20-30 mins longer. It's clear the shop isn't able to cope with online ordering and then everyone is suffering poor service. When we opened the meals it was disappointing everything was luke warm. 20% of the chips were more like crisps The only person not disappointed was the dog with her fish cake... mind you she's not fussy. We won't be back. The shop worked much better when you could just walk in and order. Can't help but think if someone dropped our fresh fish when we walked in, we could have been walking out 20 mins later.

As always great food, had chicken nuggets which is real chicken pieces and the chips as crispy as ever! Brilliant!

Ordered food online and turned up bang in the middle of the time slot given, had to wait 25 minutes for food, young lady making up orders worth her salt but other staff had no urgency, the Food cannot be faulted but the service needs...

When you order your fish and chips here, you are told it will be a 20 minute wait. The staff just talk among themselves, never engaging with their customers only a lap top. Surely fish and chips should be relatively fast food? Especially at tea...

Always forget part of your order!

This is my go to fish and chip shop. Always a queue which is a good sign. Food cooked to order so well worth phoning in your order to get an idea what time it'll be ready. Never had a bad meal.
