Whiskey Ginger in Southwark

We only stopped in for drinks, but wished we could have eaten. (The burgers and chicken looked incredible - we saw people devouring their food.) Just wanted to say how struck I was with the friendly service and nice ambience. It was noon when my friend and I rocked up - they could have easily not have welcomed us as we weren’t quite ready to eat - but they were just lovely. Waitresses were so professional and the owner was funny and charming too. We’ll be back - and will most definitely be eating next time.

We came here randomly when wanting to eat in Borough market and all 5 of us agreed it was the best burger of our lives!!! Both the chicken and beef burgers were amazing and the cocktails are cheap (£9ish) and SO YUMMY and big! The staff are the most friendly we’ve ever met in London (huge shoutout to Sarah, Tina and Jim) and they gave us a huge sparkler candle for our friends bday even though we didn’t ask for it!! One trillion percent recommend must visit!!!

Fabulous food & excellent service. We arrived at 7.15pm on Saturday evening. There restaurant was very busy but managed to book for 7.30pm. We were greeted with a warm welcome & seated upstairs where we ordered our food & drinks. Once a table was free outside we were seated and our drinks brought to us. The food was incredible my daughter and I had chicken burgers & halloumi fries. Husband and son had burgers and chips which were apparently “banging”. Thankyou so much to the owners & Sarah for making my birthday so special. Lovely to support and independent business

We were late for the market and only a few places were open. We spotted a table inside and sat down. Service was quick and very polite. The drinks arrived quickly and were delicious but smaller than I’d have liked. We ordered food and it arrived in reasonable time. My burger was cooked more than I’d have liked but was very tasty all the same. My wife had the NY hot Dog and loved it. Our friend had the El Rancho which was also lovely. Great staff. The manager was a little over bearing but our experience was not marred by that. I would definitely return on another visit.

Visited Borough Market and found this place for lunch. Really friendly staff,really good food at a reasonable price. Great atmosphere sitting outside.

Stopped here for lunch, we had 2 burgers, chunky chips (best chips I have ever eaten) 3 pints of local beer and a por star martini. Cost just under £50, not bad for central London. Great service, lovely food and drink.

Sitting down.pleasant meal. Nice drinks. Got moved along by anti simitic bars staff that wanted to impress friends. Obviously a no no. Didn’t cause a scene. Who are they employing at this place?

Stopped off at Whiskey Ginger, at random, during a day out in London. We were helped straight away by the lovely Sarah who gave us such good service we ended up staying until they closed! The bar was busy all evening but there were no delays in getting served and every time with such a willingness to help and a warm smile. Both the location and the bar had a great atmosphere and we'll definitely be back! Thanks Sarah! ☺

Waited ten minutes for a table. Can honestpy say it is the best burger i have ever eaten.Had the chicken burger and halloumi fries. Tried a pornstar martini for the 1st time, amazing!!! Great service, great music and atmosphere. We recommend 100% and WILL BE BACK XXX

Located in the midst of the hustle and bustel of London's most famous food market Why does this place stand out? ... Easy personal service, all the guys make sure you are a customer, not just another tourist among the thousands who pass through on a weekly basis. Along with this great music vibes playing inside and out ... not to mention big tasty burgers and fabulous cocktails! Last and not least really stylish decor Thanks to our lovely hostess Sarah !

Our veggie burger and cheese burger were absolutely awesome. The cheesy chips amazing.Georgia our greeter and server was truly wonderful and a real credit to the place. It started to rain so she asked us if we were ok sitting outdoors under the awning and that we were keeping dry. She was just so helpful . Love this place!

Came across this gem when visiting Borough Market.We placed an order for three. There were a couple of mistakes such as they had forgotten both our fries and gave my daughter the wrong dish.In fairness, both the manager and waitress separately came over and apologised and took off both our fries and service charge!The burger that I had and the chicken burger my fiancé had was probably the best burgers we have ever had…absolutely fantastic!The food and service is second to none and if I could give 10 stars…I would have done!For the quality of the food and the way the team dealt with the mistakes…I left a tip and that was more than the service charge!Well done and keep doing what you’re doing!

I have never in my life been to a more welcoming, warm atmosphere and relaxing place in London in my life. The staff are incredible they go out of your way to make you feel comfortable relaxed and making sure you have a good time. This is definitely by far one of my most favourite places in London and I will definitely be coming back again 10 out of 10!!! The music is amazing. The customer service is exceptional and the drinks are to die for.

We have walked passed a few times but never stopped. We are staying back up in London for a few nights so thought we would try it. Amazing staff (I don’t know the name of the lady that served us) but she recognised us when we returned the next day, as did the gentleman who I think was the Manager. They remembered the drinks we had enjoyed from the day before.My husband loved the Whiskey Ginger Cocktail, I enjoyed the wine. We tried the food the following day and it was amazing! I am not normally into burgers but this was fab and we will definitely be returning!

Some friends and I called in today for lunch. We had hot dogs, chips and a burger. We had just got there as they were about to close, they still took our order and allowed us to sit there and eat. Food was tasty and came in good time. Staff were helpful and attentive. Value for money

Grabbed a beer and a burger here when meeting a friend. The burger was fantastic and good service from the table staff.

Great choices of cocktails. Sadly missed out on ordering food as we turned up just after 930 but the friendly staff found us a table so we could at least enjoy some drinks. The atmosphere was great. We could smoke at the tables (disgusting habit I know) without having to walk off to a smoking area somewhere else. Really pleased we walked past it, I would recommend Whiskey Ginger to anyone.

We've got picky during lockdown but Whisky Ginger impressed us. During a long walk, we took a punt on their veggie burger combo and chicken burger combo, and were not disappointed. More below.First: puzzled, I have to say, by a couple of poor reviews. Overall, Whiskey Ginger have 4.5 stars which doesn't surprise me as they clearly know what they're doing. But in fact there are currently four food outlets all right on top of each other near Whiskey Ginger and it has the biggest boldest sign. Maybe someone got the wrong name. We looked hard at all the food on offer, and made the right choice!Second, full breakdown of the experience ... Our complicated order was understood, we got our number and were politely asked to wait distanced at the wall opposite. Hand sanitizer up front, queuing system in place. About five people working on the food line. There were two orders ahead of us and we had a good chance to watch (and listen to) the workflow as the food was prepped in front of us. Food was timed in and out of fryers. There was constant communication about timings and double-checking order details between team members during rapid assembly of each order. I think I even saw the toasted buns get a little steam cover put over them ... to warm the bun through on top? In other words it's proper food done fast-but-detailed, rather than 'fast food'. During our wait, I overheard as the lead heard one of the team say 'Yes, chef'. He suddenly smiled and made a comment about the number of years he'd worked in a restaurant and how long it was since he'd heard a proper 'Yes, chef' like that. He was running things smoothly. The meals were coming off the lines around every two-to-three minutes. I think we waited five, and saw the two ahead of us served in that time.We collected our three meals (packed in cardboard not foam, good), asked for ketchup and got generous helpings. Took the meals elsewhere to eat (it's the rules). They were nicely presented on opening the box. Lots of colour, sauces drizzled with a bit of flourish.Chicken burger got a straight 'excellent'. Meaty, tasty, well cooked, crunchy coating, nicely spicy sriracha.Garden Burgers (veggie burgers) absolutely 10 out of 10. Crispy coarse breadcrumb coating was pleasingly crunchy without being tough, and no greasiness. You bite through into a dense, softly luscious interior packed with fresh spinach and green peas in something pulse/potatoey (?) with I think turmeric and cumin. Both of us who ordered the veg option are pretty picky, not fussy, but we like our food well made with attention to detail, and these burgers are something I will try to recreate now at home as they totally hit the spot.Nice touch: I ordered mine without a bun, and it came sliced in quarters for easier eating.The aioli wasn't garlicky enough for me. Came over a bit mayonnaisey. But the quantity was just right if it had been more pungent. And when I told the team lead it lacked punch he took it on board sincerely with good humour. I liked that.Salad was torn lettuce, sliced red onion and fat slices of gherkin with good bite. Simple, classic; fresh edges on the lettuce and crisp onion. Their chips are genius. Someone has had the bright idea of cutting chips with a crescent section instead of square, which maximises both the surface area and the ratio of edge to middle. It means crispier chips quicker which scoop up the ketchup better too. Maybe I've just not been out enough (hah!) but I somehow missed these coming onto the market. The Whiskey Ginger ones were cooked just a fraction past crispy blond with a few fragments at that darker golden stage. No complaints from me.Bit disappointed to find I've missed out on halloumi chips. Might mean we end up taking another long walk in the near future.Long story short this place pays attention to the details and that should be respected. We were very pleased with our meal, and it made a real treat of our Sunday walk. The Whiskey Ginger team might think it's a pity others weren't so taken by their experience but we say it just leaves more for the rest of us.Thanks, chef!

So I had heard great things about these independent places and really wanted to try one so chose this place. My partner is vegetarian and asked if the veggie burger was cooked away from meat and told it was. We watched and waited for it to be cooked and I believe the manager handed us our chips before the burgers were cooked. I mentioned this and he just placed them by the heater. After a good 5 minutes our foyers ready and the veggie burger was fried with the chips. Ok, so the measly amount of chips tasted liked really old oil, the veggie burger was dripping in oil and my cheese burger was pretty slimy and disgusting. The biggest problem was the manager who couldn’t arrange anything, not even the timing of the chips and didn’t give enough time to let some of oil drain from the burger. Bottom line, no repeat business from me. Avoid this place, try somewhere else!!!!

Stopped by today during a social distanced walk with my partner and stumbled upon Whiskey Ginger. My goodness, gracious me, I can honestly say I have never had a burger like it, cooked fresh in front of us with extreme precision.Then there’s the chips ...Holy Moly! ... And the Halluomi fries! I will be back for sure ...

After being stuck in after a short illness , I took a walk up to borough market for some fresh air and a bite to eat and stopped here for a chicken burger when the owner shouted to the chef we got any of that old dodgy chicken left , I thought he was joking It was disgusting , first I thought he had burnt it but then realised that it was so dark due to the dirty oil he had fried it in. Change the oil please it don’t take a lot !!Very disappointed

Absolutely amazing service, amazing atmosphere. Fabulous owners! a tribute to London nightlife. Can’t wait to return! Made our first visit to London one to remember. We will definitely return. All the 1 star reviews clearly didn’t visit this establishment.

Had the ‘hangover cure’ sandwich (bacon , egg and sausage with Bloody Mary ketchup in a bun) two mornings during a visit to London was really tasty, staff where friendly and was good value would recommend!

Whisky Ginger has excellent food. Good if you are in a rush or fancy a bit of alfresco dining! Only issue is deciding what you want as all of the displayed food looks amazing.

Always worth a visit for a cocktail, the food always looks good too. It's only small but have never struggled to get a seat and cocktails are reasonably priced at around £9-£12. Cool decor, friendly service, proper cocktails.

Having gone to university in the southern United States, I'm pretty familiar with BBQ and have high expectations. Thus, I did not expect to be impressed when we strolled by Whiskey Ginger this past Sunday afternoon and decided to have a bite. I ordered their mac and cheese with pulled pork. It's a good, creamy mac with the option to get an extra scoop of sauce on top (which you must do if you really want to enjoy some good ol' BBQ flair). The pork was delicious as well.My husband ordered the mac and cheese with fried chicken. I had already found a spot and was eating mine, wondering what was taking so long. It was a few minutes before he made his way over to me and I asked him about the delay. Turns out his chicken was made right in front of him, chopped and added to the mac. It was crispy, without being overfried, and oh-so-tender. We were both really impressed and plan to return for more treats!

Near the station and at the north end of Borough Market, this place is great. Good service, drinks and food. Love it!

We have been here a few times before and have always been very very pleased with the service and the food, staff always very friendly and accommodating however on this occasion they have really excelled themselves not only have they changed up the menu to what can only be described as the “BEST STREET FOOD IN LONDON!!!!” the “Sausages” and accompanying extras that you can choose from are exceptional!!

We love it here and have been in the past. However tonight we experienced great hospitality at the hands of your bouncer. When getting our drinks and realising there wasn’t any space outside for us to sit, he carried a table and chairs from inside for us with no prompt fro ourselves. Made us feel so welcome and at home. I wish we had asked his name! Thanks so much, amazing cocktails and service.

If you want a great cocktail at a reasonable price head to this place. It is on two levels with the bar on the ground floor, both levels are quirky & small so don’t expect to get a seat unless lucky. There are quite a few seats outside though, which is great if it’s not raining!

Until yesterday I thought a burger and chips were a burger and chips! Then I ate here and it changed everything! On recommendation by staff I had the borough burger and chips and literally savoured every last bite! It was delicious and I really have not tasted such ‘simple’ food in such a way before.

Food is average but you are in a very touristic area. I had a better souvenir. I don’t need to come back and I probably won’t.

Popped in for a simple breakfast bap, which as all my other visits was cooked to perfection. I can always rely on this place when coming to the Borough Market..Thankyou.

Paré aquí por un par de tragos diurnos para adultos después de haber experimentado Borough Market. Es un bar pequeño con asientos limitados, pero tiene una gran selección de bebidas. El hombre del bar fue muy servicial y conocedor de la excelente selección de whisky y ginebra.

Estábamos visitando Londres por motivos de trabajo y nos quedamos en el área del mercado municipal. Busqué en Tripadvisor para bares de cócteles y encontré este lugar. Al vivir en Plymouth no tienes muchos bares de cócteles auténticos y este lugar era encantador. Cócteles increíbles en un ambiente íntimo.

I headed over to the Borough Market for my last meal before leaving the city and heading to the airport. Whiskey Ginger had their grill all fired up with outdoor seating in place, so it made the choice easy. I ordered the bacon and egg sandwich, which was very hearty and delicious.

There’s nothing better than drinking a lovely whisky/whiskey based drink on a cold evening December in London. A great selection of cocktails and stand alone whisky/whiskey so you’ll be spoilt for choice. Great service also.

What a fantastic atmosphere the guys have created here. Cracking pint of local beer and the best burger ever. Totally brilliant. Could have spent much more time there and certainly will next time I’m down in London. Definitely worth a visit - your taste buds will thank you.

Looking for a Breakfast...came across this place on our way to the market. I needed just a simple meal...and this place came up trumps for me. Burger delicious. The guys working there were very friendly. Loads of seating.

We tried three types of burger and the chips. All were absolutely superb, served quickly with a smile and we managed to grab a table nearby. Didn’t need it for long, the burgers got inhaled, they were that good. Seek it out.

Stopped in the check out borough market as it was our first time to London. The owner John let us sit outside at his tables because we had two kids even though we had bought no food at the establishment. We decided to eventually order drinks as we liked the vibe at the place. Good decision! The vibe got nicer and so did the people... Max our server was on point with the drinks and the bouncers (serge and david) were super awesome.. By the time we left we knew we had had one of the best nights in London....what a phenomenal little location!

Sat. Are frantic. 30 min. Wait on a Sat. afternoon. Aperol was 5£. You can sit outside at the tables if you order here. Hot dog was 6£. Delicious!

A pretty darn good burger w homemade bbq sauce and British bacon. Hard to find as is down an alley. Eat outside with lots of food traffic walking by. Perfect for lunch.

Es un lugar agradable para estar, de 18 hoyos, en el agujero, etc. peculiar y la comida estaba bien. Todo parecía ser exprimido en el área. El servicio parecía un poco impredecible y grosero o quizás podría decir simplemente agudo y no es muy agradable. Perder completamente los chicos fin delante de mí y mi hamburguesa completamente equivocados. Quizás dislexia toca una parte no sé, uno perder la próxima vez.

Superbe endroit. Nous étions de passage avec un ami, la rue est située non loin de l'arrêt de métro London Bridge. Les burgers sont super bon et l'ambiance agréable. Je recommande !

Fuimos a este lugar hace un par de años y estaban muy emocionados de volver ya está perfectamente situado para detectar personas en Borough Market. Teníamos unas patatas fritas rústicas y cócteles que eran encantadores, pero había un ambiente extraño con el personal y sentí que no podía ser molestado, también sustituido ingredientes en los cócteles (que eran alrededor de £12 - 15 cada uno, así no es barato! ) sin preguntar. . Parece realmente pobre. dados los precios que se cobran. Dudo que le prisa en volver.

Très bon hamburger, différentes sortes .par contre beaucoup de monde difficile de trouver de la place assises.

El Curado en seco de humo y golpeado por bacon es para morirse, tenía un huevo frito con este lugar preparado en cómo me gusta y sirve en un panecillo tostado.

We visited the bar just at the very end of our family vacation and all wish that we found this place earlier. Amazing quality burgers which I recommend to all, great music and stunning view on the cathedral. Great service too! Savana took extra care of us and we all can agree that we will visit this bar next time we are around.

Out after work for drinks with friends and attracted by the Gin/Lillete/Absinthe cocktail at £12. However, I was totally underwhelmed at the result. The measures must’ve been minuscule because there was hardly any taste and absolutely no character at all!

I first visited here three years ago and have longed to get back and have another burger as I felt at the time it was the best burger I'd ever had! So that's some anticipation. Didn't disappoint, still think they serve the best burgers! Get there in the afternoon while they're still serving burgers (they're not available in the evening), you'll not regret it.

La location non delle migliori considerato che i posti a sedere sono perlopiù fuori. Dentro pochi posti ad un secondo piano, credo massimo 8 persone, anche se lo stile del locale è davvero molto carino e con bella musica. Tutto questo però passa in secondo piano quando ti ritrovi a mangiare hamburger e patatine di altissimo livello, accompagnati oltretutto da un servizio veloce...davvero complimenti! Se mai dovessi tornare a Londra sarà il primo posto dove mi ricorderò di passare a mangiare! Lo consiglio a tutti gli amanti di hamburger e patatine!

Great place just at the entrance to the Borough Market. Burgers are prepared outside, cocktails inside. Burgers are getting custom made, very good and at reasonable price.

I ate here on a recent visit to Borough Market. After spotting (and smelling) the amazing burgers I was keen to have a quick look round to see if there was anything else I'd rather have for lunch. After walking all the way round the market I headed straight back and ordered myself a burger. It was cooked from scratch which only took ten minutes and looked and tasted like the best burger I have ever had. There is seating outside but also a small bar to sit inside. I was reluctant to share my burger with my boyfriend but we both agreed it was amazing! Next time I'm back in Borough I will return!

Åt lunch här mitt i julrushen - jättegott och trevlig personal. Snabb service trots mycket folk. Fick först öl i plastmugg, men de bytte ut den till sejdel när vi satte oss inomhus.

I can highly recommend this area, very good burger. And very cool staff works they. It is located next to market which I also can highly recommend. Check out the bakery deserts on the market.

Quelques gin tonic à tomber ! Préparés avec tout l'art nécessaire (romarin frais, épices, olives, zestes de fruits frais, graines de cardamome et de genièvre, cannelle...) vous vous souviendrez de ce moment ! Musique excellente et le dimanche atelier burgers à l'extérieur.

Este lugar es un tesoro escondido en Borough Market. Gran variedad de cócteles y cosas increíbles que ayuda una experiencia que no olvidaré. Tienen djs cada semana, sin duda recomendable.

Der Borough Market ist ein der tollsten Märkte in London. Super atmosphärisch unter einem Gleisdreieck gelegen. Das Restaurant liegt am Rande des Marktes gegenüber der Southwalk Kathedrale. Super leckere Burger aus frischem Fleisch. Toll!

Mientras que en el mercado de borough, tenía hambre y quería probar el sandwich de carne de hamburguesa desmenuzado. La hamburguesa estaba bien, realmente no me gusta la col en la cima, no iría de nuevo para este particular sandwich.
