whilst the cafe looks lovely and has a great menu, it is let by down its rude staff. i have visited twice now and noticed how rude and unprofessional the workers can be - all stood on their phones and treating customers rudely. this is mostly the fault of the male workers, as there was a clear difference between the young girls who were kind at the till and the men who were incredibly ignorant and made the experience unenjoyable.

It’s always nice to find somewhere new to us, and we recently stumbled on Whipped before embarking on a cruise nearby! On our first we just called in for milkshakes. Wow! Some of the best shakes we’ve had in York. I had the Ferrero Rocher one and it was delicious. None of the fake stuff here, just proper blended milkshakes served ice cold. We returned to try the food before a show at The Grand Opera House across the road. From an extensive menu, we went for lighter choices than usual - Eggs Avo with salmon for me, and Eggs Royale for Mrs Wizard. The boys chose tuna melt paninis. The food was whipped up quickly (see what I did there?!) and definitely hit the spot. Fresh ingredients, lots of flavour and a perfect summer lunch (washed down with more milkshakes!) The paninis were served with crisps - always a winner for the kids - although the salad had balsamic vinegar in which was too tangy for them. We’ll ask for it without next time. The menu also features full cooked breakfasts, waffles, french toast, pancakes, burgers and homemade cheesecakes. There are plenty of options for vegans and vegetarians too. The location is perfect for exploring York or wand-ering down the river, and because it’s slightly away from the main city streets it’s generally a little quieter. It’s also ideal if you’re visiting the York Dungeon! The Wizard of York (Wizard Walk of York)

Enjoyed a absolutely lovely breakfast here today, my partner had the full English and I had the pancake stack with Nutella and strawberries plus a cup of English breakfast tea each. Very prompt service and the food arrived very quickly! Cooked fresh! For a competitive price too. Friendly staff and professional! Will definitely go back when next in York

Pop in for a coffee and after sitting down and looking at the menu and went to order 2 coffees! Told we won’t be served as they are waiting for a group to come in. Even though it was quiet and there was no que. only wanted a takeaway coffee.

Disappointed to find the venue was not wheelchair accessible due to a step to the main entrance. However, staff helped me over the step. Food was good and service was quick. I hope they consider purchasing a ramp in future.

The food here was amazing, I had French toast at another cafe before this and I thought I just mustn't like French Toast, but it looked so good at Whipped I risked it for a biscuit and boy was I glad. It was heaven. My husband had pancakes that were delightfully fluffy and a generous portion. And the smoothies were fresh and delicious. Breakfast there is the best way to start your day for sure!

Visited with my boys after York dungeons as it's really close. We had the full English breakfast, grilled cheese sandwich, and chicken burger. All were really tasty Staff were very friendly, and what I also appreciated was the customer service - the fried eggs for the breakfast came with black pepper all over them - probably fine for most people, but my 9 year old wouldn't eat them. The cook noticed and straight away fried two more plain ones. Great customer service. Will visit again when next in York.

Really nice coffee but we waited 20 minutes for them (standing as they were takeaway). I'm not sure I've ever seen a person make coffee as slowly as the young lad in the cafe and he clearly needs more training and support. He was polite and apologetic, but we missed our slot at the museum and had to delay our tour.

We enjoyed our breakfasts here so much that we ate here three out of our four days in York! I particularly enjoyed the avocado on sourdough with poached eggs and chili oil, very nice flat white coffee too. The staff were friendly and helpful (especially with my request for a special smoothy) and the place had a nice atmosphere. I look forward to visiting again next time we are in York.

This place is definitely an great example of not judging a book by it's cover. The cafe looks lovely, but I wouldn't go in again. My friend had a grilled cheese sandwich which she said was lovely. It was very clean, and there are plenty of tables. However, the staff don't listen to what you are ordering. I ordered a slice of Victoria sandwich and a hot chocolate. I was charged £6.80. Hot chocolate was £2.80, so £4 for a slice of cake seemed reasonable. The cake came out and 5 mins later still no drink. When questioned they tried to say i hadnt ordered it. I absolutely had and confirmed it the girl on the till twice. Do I was charged £6.80 for a slice of stale Victoria Sponge. Absolute daylight robbery! For comparison my friend paid less than £6 for her grilled sandwich that came with a small side salad and crisps. The place looks lovely, but honestly at prices like that for a dry stale but of cake I would recommend you avoid.

We saw this place during our most recent visit to York and decided to stop to have something for lunch. Staff were very friendly and helpful and the food and drinks were lovely. My son had an ice-cream and milkshake, wife a cheesecake and hot chocolate, daughter cookie dough and I a waffle. The waffle was huge and very filling and must have for any dessert lover. My daughters was big enough but they did serve a larger size also. I will certainly be returning on my next visit to York.

We stopped by looking for a coffee and snack - we were so glad we did. The donut and caramel sauce was the best I'd ever had, and the banana waffle with ice cream was delicious. So good we returned and had the same again the following day. The girls were friendly and efficient. We would recommend stopping here when visiting York.

Excellent pub, we unwittingly ordered 2 steaks meals and a bottle of white wine without realising it was on a promotion deal...nice surprise when we received the final bill. We loved the cheese board and I loved the Leeds Leodis beer. Staff were excellent and a great friendly atmosphere. Revisited in November 2024 on a Sunday evening and still excellent, friendly pub with amazing food. Just love this pub, wish I had it near my home. Love the Leodis pilsner....just wish I could get it in bottles😥

We called in on the day of the Yorkshire Marathon and although it was busy we got a seat and ordered. We got a coffee for my wife and a Victoria 99 cupcake for my 6 year old daughter. She really enjoyed it and my wife said the coffee was lovely too. The staff were very welcoming and polite but all in all really nice and we will definitely be back.

We went into the Ivy not knowing anything about it but it looked inviting from the outside and it was cold and rainy and an awful weather-wise day. How pleasantly surprised we were. It seemed to be snooty and stuffy but wasn't. Beautiful atmosphere and the food was delicious. My friend had the 1917 Menu of starter and main: Salmon Rillette with avocado, salad and rye bread and main of Shepherds' Pie. I had a starter of roasted scallops with creamed spinach and potato puffs. The cost: no more than what you would've paid in a neighborhood cafe. And the rose colored ladies' bathroom is beautiful!
