Faulty Towers Boxing Day experience Table was booked for 5. No friendly greeting. Shown to table which was not set. Cutlery arrived eventually, 2 napkins and 4 knives and forks for 5. We had to ask several times for extra cutlery. No apology. No orange juice or Tonic water. We ordered some fish and chips and it took them 15 minutes to come back to us to say they had no fish. No interaction such as enjoy your meal, when the food was brought to our table. Food tasted OK but presentation poor. For £15.50 for a burger I would have expected a tiny bit of garnish. Would not go again EDIT following response from own̈er When we booked the table, we were not advised it was a special menu nor given the opportunity to pre order. Upon arrival you gave us the menu which included fish and chips. Surely at the time of ordering you should have informed us that it wasn't available????

Went for tea with a friend and ordered the homemade kebabs for £16 and chicken karaage for £7.50. I expected a decent portion but only one kebab on the plate with 5 pieces of halloumi and some onion and pepper served on a flatbread with some greek cheese and a very small bowl of cold chips !! The chicken karaage wasn't actually chicken karaage but a few very small pieces of chicken cooked to death and barely edible. Pint of lager £6.75 !! A very expensive low quality tea. My friend had to send his Hunters chicken back as the chicken was inedible and rock hard. I feel like an old man leaving reviews like this but the chef had one job !! £32 for my tea the bare minimum I expect is edible food. Don't think I'll be eating there again.

I booked for a group of friends so we could have a Christmas meal together. The whole process from beginning to end was a pleasant easy experience. The Christmas food menu was clear and easy to fill in with a good choice of meals. When booking the staff were friendly and very accommodating. There was a lovely atmosphere when we arrived and were well looked after all evening. The food was delicious and well prepared. All in all, we enjoyed a great evening!

Had a lovely time whilst catching up with friends. Sunday roast was delicious.

Excellence on all levels. My family and I organised a reunion at the Wheatsheaf, pretty much at the last minute. Oliie, one of the managers,organised all aspects of the booking without stress or confusion. All the food came out at the same time and it was enjoyed by all. My family and I will definitely recommend this great pub in the heart of Kirkelka. Great job, thanks again.

Cracking Sunday lunch. We had the trio of meats, with extra pigs in blankets and cauliflower cheese…beautifully cooked and came out in good time. Ollie was our server, and was an excellent host…couldn’t do enough for us. Highly recommend 👍

The sea bass I ordered was disgusting it was overcooked to the point it was burnt and I had to send it back. Also we were never offered the dessert menu!

Meant to write some words. Excellent beers, friendly staff, went out of their way to find an empty table for us to have a few beers. Have eaten here in the past and food was excellent.

Great meals for the three of us last night in the very busy restaurant, although the wait time was a bit too long the quality of the meals more than made up for it. The food was fantastic both maims and deserts, the best we have had for a long time.

Staff not sufficient they were chasing around as insufficient staff employed. Food was not the best, chips on the mixed grill were hollow with no potato inside of them, lots of scrappy chips... My wife's sirloin steak was very fatty and also not as large as my mixed grill steak 4oz steak and yet it was supposed to be an 8oz sirloin steak... Ordered 2 peppercorn sauces only one was brought, so I had to go back to the bar to request the second one which had been ordered. Dubious as to whether we would dine there again after this experience

I cannot recommend this pub/restaurant highly enough book to avoid disappointment

Wait for food from ordering was a little long, but worth it. Tasted great. Staff were great. Plenty if parking spaces too. If I could make one recommendation it would be to switch the plant based burger to Beyond Burger

Really nice food and service from friendly and attentive staff. The manager young lady was especially nice. Not that the other staff weren't but we dealt mostly with her and she was very nice. Food was hot and tasty. The only thing I'd mention that was a slight negative was the room was a little cold so had to eat with our coats on.

In need of an update , peeling pain , mouldy walls in bar and toilets , lovely location , Much nicer outside than inside . Food below average First time I’ve sent food back , dry , tasteless, not what it said it was on the menu , the manager was very understanding and let me change my order to Something else but that was poor also Very pub chain food , not fresh My husband loved his choices, beautiful soup , I was disappointed with my food , wouldn’t go back sadly It was full of people , but sadly not for me

The place was cold, the majority of people were sat with coats on. There weren’t enough staff on for the number of diners so it was a long time before our order was taken and delivered. My wife had Gammon and the area that had been in contact with the griddle was burnt and tasted burnt. The chips were in need of resuscitation they were so pale. My chicken and mushroom pie was tasteless and the mashed potato needed gravy to make it palatable. The staff were very good but too few. We came because of a 30% voucher but the other vouchers went in the bin. Overall a disappointing experience.

Did not eat, so I can't comment on the food, but in the past, it was always good. Wainwright ale was excellent

I was recommended The Wgeatsheaf by a client of mine so thought I'd try it out with my mum on our monthly day out after having our nails done in nearby Ferriby. The pub was quite busy which is always a good sign,we were greeted relatively quickly and handed over to a very pleasant waiter who escorted us to our table with menus. There was a good choice including a 2 or 3 course lunch menu but we went for a main meal off ghe regular menu,both choosing the Steak and Ale Pie with veg. It came very hot and feeling freshly cooked. A nice selection of veg and individual gravy jugs,very tasty it was too! I had downloaded a voucher fur 30% off mains meals which was a nice bonus! We will definitely return and recommend to others. We liked the outside space too,so will be a nice summer venue.

Ryan is an amazing manager and (speaking on behalf of the majority of regulars) we all wish he could stay as our full-time, permanent manager. He is so personable, kind and talkative and has some amazing ideas to take the pub to the next level! As always, Evie was amazing, and we all adore her! Thank you Ryan & Evie for making our Friday nights amazing! We’ll be back every week… and you know it! ;) xx

Great venue and fantastic service Visited for lunch and food was excellent. Family and dog friendly.

There were three people in our party, one of whom has an intolerance to garlic. The staff were aware of this from the on-line booking details and quickly established which member of the group this was. They were very reassuring in their professional manner regarding this and answered any concerns quickly. We had the Sunday lunch, trio of roasts and roast turkey, all meals were very substantial and tasted amazing; we all particularly liked the red cabbage. A very enjoyable experience, we will return.

Warm welcome , very efficient , served by an extremely friendly, knowledgeable, young man with a great sense of humour.Although he was very busy, was efficient and attentive throughout the visit . The food was delicious. Many thanks and we look forward to seeing you again in the very near future.

Lovely pub with a good atmosphere. The service is great and the staff friendly, in particular the manager, Ollie. We ate at the restaurant recently and he was very courteous and checked in to see how our meal was. Highly recommend.

The sticky chicken starters were fantastic, as was the smokey lasagna. Plus the staff were wonderful, especially Brook. Lovely atmosphere. Will be back:-)

me and my friends went to the wheatsheaf for lunch and it was our first time going and after that it definitely isn’t going to be our last trip there, the waitress allie was absolutely amazing, nothing was to much for her and made our experience easy as possible, give her a pay rise 💰

The wheat sheaf is a beautiful pub and it has a lovely atmosphere. There was only one chef in the kitchen the day we visited due to illness. We did have to wait at least an hour for our meal which is why I scored it 4. We were with friends so we were kept busy chatting until the food came. All 4 meals were top quality and delicious. We all said it was worth the wait. We will be visiting again soon!

Very friendly service. Slight delay with food but this was explained upfront so not a problem. Food hot and tasty. Only slight criticism wine is very expensive at over 10 pound for a house wine is a bit over the top

Veggie Burger was average to say the least; in reality it was dry, tasteless, pasty and didnt really have much about it. I'd expect this standard of veggie burger in a cheap pub chain, certainly not worth the money paid. The 'Thai Slaw' was cabbage and sweet chilli sauce, bland and predictable, really was hoping for a minty, hot, coriander, limey, fish saucey sweet and sour coleslaw, not the kop out I received on the 'Veggie' burger. The chips - why oh why do you preseason them? There is no mention of this on the menu and some of us just don't want salt, or can't have for dietary requirements, and plying lots of salt on a toddlers meal certainly isn't healthy! Inform us at the point of sale, then we have the option to refuse, don't just take it for granted everyone, especially a 2 year old, require half the evaporated North Sea on our chips. On the plus side, my 27 year old had the chicken burger and he enjoyed it very much. Quick other point - wrap the knives and forks in the napkin, fill sauce bottles pre opening and don't just dump the condiments in the box provided, I know they're visual points, but they do make a difference to the presentation of your venue.

Good place for an enjoyable family meal

Found this gem of a dog friendly pub after physically reserving a table at The Star for 4 persons and 1 dog. When arrived and sat at the reserved table, we got told to leave as they don’t admit dogs 🤷🏼‍♀️

Great pub, well maintained Team are all very friendly and helpful. Andy is a legend. Ash was great. Food is fantastic and arrived quickly visited for the big Bank Holiday event! It was epic loads of activities for all ages and the entertainment was great.

Wow, what a fantastic family friendly afternoon we had at the Wheatsheaf. Lots of entertainment for the kids and adults. The food was amazing and so were the cocktails. Hats off to all the staff who were excellent and extremely professional during a very busy charity day. We will definitely recommend, thank you for such a wonderful afternoon.

Great service. Was shown to a lovely table by the window and had drinks order taken quickly. I asked if we could order food straight away as we had my son's school play afterwards. Food came promptly and was hot and delicious. We were able to pay the bill quickly too. A lovely experience, especially for my mother in law who hadn't been before. Thank you :-)

I have just got home from lunch today with family. A lovely young lady named Evie served us. She was very polite and attentive, making sure we were looked after. We all decided to have the Chicken and Chorizo Kebab; this was beautiful. The food is the best we have had in a pub for a long time and the prices were reasonable. The pub is beautiful inside, lovely decorated and with fairy lights making it a really pleasant place to eat. We will be returning soon.

Very high prices, and the standards very low. Just look at the photo, toilet full of mould, I wonder how safe it is keep toilet paper in this mouldy box. Staff busy talking with friends, not very attentive.Friday night, booked taxi for 11, taxi was little late so we sat at the bar and young waitress told us - exact words - "I want you out of the door now" , the other people were still inside but supposedly "locals" are treated in more friendly manner. Well, this is what's happen if you let kids run the pub. I do use this pub now and then but I honestly don't think it is worth the money. Great pub and beer garden, nice food and good service.

We are new to the area having just moved from West Yorkshire so it was our first visit. The food, service and dinning area was great. The menu was varied and we all really enjoyed our meal. We will be back in the near future

Lovely pub, nice atmosphere inside & out. We needed to change time of booking a few hrs before, quickly sorted for us. We sat in the doggy area, which is great, comfy, and still very much part of the pub. Really good Sunday roast, large portions, hot and tasty, enjoyed by all of us.

We went to the Wheatsheaf for a late Sunday lunch. On arrival, we were shown to our table and given the menus. One was for the Sunday menu, the other a specials menu. We ordered drinks and our food from a very pleasant waitress. We all had starters and main courses, but only one of the party ordered dessert. The food was lovely, the waiting staff were very friendly and professional, and the atmosphere was a warm one. Would highly recommend the Sunday Lunch at the Wheatsheaf.

The worst meal I have ever been served. Chicken pie, had to use knife to access a small part of the "pastry", scraped out less than a tablespoon of bits of chicken. Pastry uneatable just so hard. Vegetables were cold, glazed carrots were overcooked, mash was yellowy and the gravy was beef, honestly for £15.50 it was appalling. I informed the waitress and asked her to remove my plate. No-one from the management had the courtesy to come and discuss the issue. Never to return.

We are regulars at the Wheatsheaf, it is a fantastic pub with a fantastic atmosphere. The food is great and the staff also. Would definitely recommend this pub for anyone going for food, drinks or just a warm welcome. Also very good for food intolerances including gluten and dairy in our case

A pleasure as always. We had invited family over from Scunthorpe to join us for Sunday dinner and they too were as impressed as we always are. My parents have, for a number of years had their own pubs and have served food and have high expectations when they visit elsewhere. They agreed the food was outstanding, as was the service we received. I’m sure they’ll be back to visit again soon.

Service was pleasant and helpful, although we did have to repeatedly call people over to order more drinks. The food was generally good, but two dinners came out with the wrong potato and or vegetable choice and the steak Americano which was ordered "Blue" came out medium. Despite this we had a nice time and would probably return as it's a nice pub, just needs a little attention to detail to be much better.

Friendly staff but rushed off there feet due to shortage of staff , food was just ok typical pub grub very mediocre, overall the place is ok but could be so much better with more staff and more attention to detail on the food as most of it looked bought in and maybe not all cooked from scratch on the premises.
