Used to come to the wheatsheaf regularly, after ordering buttermilk chicken tenders served with spring onions and fresh chillies, that where also usually drizzled with a mix of bbq and mayo to then be met with Morrisons quality chicken strips with no chillies no spring onions and bbq and mayo in separate pots, disappointed to say the least, 11 pound for what looked like a plain kids meal but used to be one of the favourite dishes

I'm not sure what has happened to the Wheatsheaf over the last few months but, if it was a school, it would be in special measures. I met my son in there and couldn't get served in the lounge area and had to move around to the bar area in the hope of service. Once eventually served, we had a table booked for food. There seemed to be confusion in the restaurant area even though it was 5pm and quiet. We were guided to our seats and about 15 mins later a lady came over to tell us what wasn't available on the menu. She might have told us what was available! She then timidly admitted it would be at least an hour before any food arrived. She seemed embarrassed as people were arriving and immediately leaving. I could perhaps understand this chaos if it was busy, but it wasn't. We also left and won't return until we hear that things have improved significantly.

We booked a table for 7 people on their website and arrived 10 minutes early, no one to greet us and when someone appeared he told us to go through to the bar to find the supervisor. The supervisor was working the bar when we said we had a booking he left us stood in the bar and disappeared. One of our party came to get us to say the supervisor was getting our table. He didn’t ask any details he just put two tables together and told us that was our table. Once seated he asked about allergies, I told him I can’t eat pork and he said, ‘well that’s pretty much self explanatory on the menu, if I need any more details check the pub website’ ‘the server will be over soon to take your drinks order’ There was one server for the whole of the restaurant area, so waiting for service was a long time, we had to ask about our order, as we waited 45 minutes for it to arrive. We were told they only had one chef working! Majority of the food was lovely, we had main courses and desserts. The one thing we all agreed on was the server, Brooke was lovely, she was extremely busy, but answered all our questions, gave excellent service and never stopped smiling! The meal was for a special occasion and was disappointed that they obviously hadn’t got a table set for us even though I had pre-booked, the supervisor was rude and we will probably not return.

Limited selection available and over 1h wait for food. Wasn't even busy so can't understand the wait. Didn't want to wait that long with children getting hungry, so didn't stay. The young lady on the desk was lovely though and explained the issues straight away which was helpful.

Poor service food took a long time after ordering even though it was quiet. Food arrived well over cooked rates among the worst meals I've had. I now understand why it was so quiet I should have taken notice of the reviews I'd seen but was prepared to try it myself. Every day is a school day lesson learned.

Popped in for food this evening to find out they were fully booked, thankfully the fantastic Oliver managed to squeeze us in as we are just visiting the area. We were here for 4 nights and visited the Wheatsheaf 3 times. Found it always busy, music playing, very clean inside and out with very comfortable seats. On top of that, lovely staff, nice drinks and yummy food, what else could you want when you fancy eating out.

We were not booked in until 2pm but I had got finished earlier than expected at the hairdressers across the road so arrive 20 minutes early. That wasn't a problem and we were shown to our table. There were two staff on duty that we saw and both were very pleasant and attentive. We didn't have to wait very long for the food and it was nice and hot and tasty. I had a 30%voucher off main meals so that was a bonus too.

What total shame but this pub has gone down hill and in a pretty fast time. Had Sunday dinner there today and bear in mind this WAS my go to place for a Sunder dinner and it was really poor. The service was poor at the bar and I was made to wait to order as staff walk passed and ignored me. Then no cutlery brought out until after the food. That’s the positives out the way. The food was awful and not at all cheap price, I had the trio of meats and I could not tell the difference between the pork and turkey then the beef was tough and all the meat was dry and tasteless, the gravy was watery I’d suggest it’s possibly instant. The meat isn’t a cooked roast like you would expect it’s clearly bought pre sliced meat as it’s wafer thin, like what you used to get in microwave meals in the 80’s. The veg was ok at best and the Yorkshire was flat as a pancake. All in all I would give the food a 2/10 when it was up until Christmas always a 8/10. Awful shame coz it’s my local and did used to eat regular. I’ll not be eating there again now. You can’t try and save money by making the food poor but still charge a high rate. £18 for a Sunday that poor. At least Dick Turpin wore a mask.

Booked for a party of seven a few weeks back to have an evening meal. Three of us arrived, ordered drinks which took around 20 minutes to arrive. Our other four of the party then arrived, ordered drinks that took approximately 45 minutes to arrive. We ordered food and were told because of a lot of bar meals being ordered the food would take around an hour. I had ordered the mixed grill, and after ten minutes was informed they had run out of chips. Ten minutes later a party of five sat on the table next to us and were told food would be a two hour wait! After ten minutes they got up and left. Shortly afterwards another table who had been obviously waiting also got up and left. Great we thought,we may get ours a bit faster now......no. After waiting over the hour, a young lad came over to our table and said the food would be a further 15 minute delay. When asked why we were told there was only one chef on.....so this contradicted the manager! Eventually the food arrived, minus one of our parties. The manager explained he was rushing and had dropped it onto the floor,so would have to redo it. By the time it arrived the other six of us had finished our meals. The steaks we had were awful, very chewy and full of gristle. Even the well done ones were very pink and underdone. Realizing we had been waiting now for at least one and half hours we were offered a table of free deserts, which never materialized. During the meal we had to ask bar staff to clear all the empty glasses from our table,we were offered no sauces when the food arrived also. We asked for the bill and were informed that because of the dropped meal it would be free. All in all a really bad experience which was a shame because we have been here previously and got fantastic service and food. If lack of kitchen staff was an issue why were we not called and informed of at least the wait we would have. Don't know what's happening at Wheatsheaf but it is not very good. As the last comment said, when the problems arise the young bar staff get sent out to passify the angry customers. I wouldn't mind but the place was almost empty. Which going by our personal experience, this will be a regular occurrence.

Came on Saturday evening table booked. We had family visiting so was looking forward to coming back here as we had enjoyed it last summer. Well disappointed was an understatement hardly any mains to choose from apparently your delivery didn’t appear. The fact we had to wait near on an hour for our starters we should have gone then. Couldn’t fault the young waiting staff that was on was rushed off their feet. But it was unacceptable that when the food did appear it was cold. Honestly wouldn’t come back or recommend maybe they should look at who manages this place for it to go so downhill in such a short time

Arrived for reservation Saturday evening at 630pm. Was greeted by waitress that proceeded to tell us what food on menu is not available. 80% of food on menu not available. The excuse was delivery did not turn up. No one bothered to call us to give opportunity to cancel booking and go elsewhere. We had no choice but ate poor quality food consisting of starters and side dishes. The Manager was hidden and left it all to young waiting staff to take the flak. All customers started complaining. It took 55 minutes before our starters came. The quality was poor and evidence of heating, cooling, heating in microwave. Very poor. I recommend eating at far superior pub around the corner called Beech Tree. The pub owner replied below and lies, i timed the wait. And we waited 55 minutes for our first dish to come. Like I say, better going to Beech Tree, far more welcoming and professional.

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel as though our custom was not wanted. The manager asked if we had a reservation, we said no. His response was well I will see if we can fit you in. There was probably about 20 customers from when we arrived until we finished eating. Extremely disappointed with the way we were treated. He was rude, abrupt and arrogant. He obviously didn’t want to be there and didn’t give a damn about customer care. There was hardly any staff around to the point that other customers would go looking for someone to take their drink order. Again the attitude of the manager was appalling. We have visited many times, our time before this wasn’t good and we left feedback relating to this but thought we would give it another go, I’m afraid we won’t be back until a new management team Is brought in. Also my first and second food choices were not available. This is so disappointing and I feel that this pub will soon end up with very few customers and no chance of making it in a very competitive environment.

Family meal for 8, met by very abrupt man who eventually found us a seat even though we had booked and we were first in. Table service was fine for drinks but ordering was a bit if an ordeal. Ordering drinks at the bar, the same guy very abrupt again when asking for beer that wasn't on, even though the "taps" were lit up. 40 min wait for food even though we were first in. We had all ordered different things from menu and everyone left some food due to the poor quality. This has been a lovely pub in the past, and people do have bad days but needs a big change in attitude and quality if it's ever going to get back to where it once was

Should be called Ranoutofmeatsheaf! Not sure what time you have to visit this place to actually try the Sunday Roast on a Sunday because the last 3 visits we've made on a Sunday - they've run out of them 🤷🏼 Was served our food and wasn't asked if we wanted any condiments so got our own! Wasn't offered a pudding when our plates were cleared, so sat for 10 minutes waiting to catch someones eye but the staff were nowhere to be seen and when staff did emerge, no one seems to want to make eye contact! Only managed to get the attention of the staff when I stood up and put my coat on and was promptly asked if I wanted the bill. Another disappointing experience unfortunately so won't be returning!

We had to ask several times for extra cutlery. No apology. No orange juice or Tonic water. We ordered some fish and chips and it took them 15 minutes to come back to us to say they had no fish. No interaction such as enjoy your meal, when the food was brought to our table. Food tasted OK but presentation poor. For £15.50 for a burger I would have expected a tiny bit of garnish. Would not go again EDIT following response from own̈er When we booked the table, we were not advised it was a special menu nor given the opportunity to pre order. Upon arrival you gave us the menu which included fish and chips. Surely at the time of ordering you should have informed us that it wasn't available????

Went for tea with a friend and ordered the homemade kebabs for £16 and chicken karaage for £7.50. I expected a decent portion but only one kebab on the plate with 5 pieces of halloumi and some onion and pepper served on a flatbread with some greek cheese and a very small bowl of cold chips !! The chicken karaage wasn't actually chicken karaage but a few very small pieces of chicken cooked to death and barely edible. Pint of lager £6.75 !! A very expensive low quality tea. My friend had to send his Hunters chicken back as the chicken was inedible and rock hard. I feel like an old man leaving reviews like this but the chef had one job !! £32 for my tea the bare minimum I expect is edible food. Don't think I'll be eating there again.

The pub was quite busy which is always a good sign,we were greeted relatively quickly and handed over to a very pleasant waiter who escorted us to our table with menus. There was a good choice including a 2 or 3 course lunch menu but we went for a main meal off ghe regular menu, both choosing the Steak and Ale Pie with veg. It came very hot and feeling freshly cooked. A nice selection of veg and individual gravy jugs, very tasty it was too! I had downloaded a voucher fur 30% off mains meals which was a nice bonus! Veggie Burger was average to say the least; in reality it was dry, tasteless, pasty and didnt really have much about it. I'd expect this standard of veggie burger in a cheap pub chain, certainly not worth the money paid. The 'Thai Slaw' was cabbage and sweet chilli sauce, bland and predictable, really was hoping for a minty, hot, coriander, limey, fish saucey sweet and sour coleslaw, not the kop out I received on the 'Veggie' burger. The chips - why oh why do you preseason them? There is no mention of this on the menu and some of us just don't want salt, or can't have for dietary requirements, and plying lots of salt on a toddlers meal certainly isn't healthy! Inform us at the point of sale, then we have the option to refuse, don't just take it for granted everyone, especially a 2 year old, require half the evaporated North Sea on our chips. On the plus side, my 27 year old had the chicken burger and he enjoyed it very much. Quick other point - wrap the knives and forks in the napkin, fill sauce bottles pre opening and don't just dump the condiments in the box provided, I know they're visual points, but they do make a difference to the presentation of your venue.

The food and service couldn't be faulted but we had a 45 minute wait from when we order, until the food arrived. Not acceptable in my opinion.

Could not fault anything and the food was superb. We were told that the food would be 30 minutes as you were really busy and it arrived in 15 minutes!

Nice pub, friendly and pleasant staff, plenty of dining space, varied food choices at reasonable prices. Food arrived after not too long a wait and was hot and very tasty. A very pleasant Sunday lunch / visit. Will certainly book again.

I have just got home from lunch today with family. A lovely young lady named Evie served us. She was very polite and attentive, making sure we were looked after. We all decided to have the Chicken and Chorizo Kebab; this was beautiful. The food is the best we have had in a pub for a long time and the prices were reasonable. The pub is beautiful inside, lovely decorated and with fairy lights making it a really pleasant place to eat. We will be returning soon.

Disappointed is an underestimate! Sweet and sour king prawn ...batter was that soggy it was like glue , sauce was like a lump of jelly stone cold as was the curry sauce .Singapore fried rice, struggled to find any meat and again cold ...

Most horrendous experience with their take away service tonight. We picked up an £85 take away and they sent us the wrong items. Called the restaurant I got an absolutely disgusting reply from the guy that answered the phone saying he wasn’t able to help me and hung up the phone. My boyfriend called them back and got the same answer. Honestly disgusting. I don’t eat meat myself and the wrong items should be addressed not just having the phone hung up on us.
