Ginger haired guy with beard has shocking customer service. May or may not have overcharged for our drinks but then left at opposite end of the bar from where we stood and wandered off playing with his phone. My jaw hit the floor

Nice pub, stylized in recent years akin to a chain, faux style rustic. Service was friendly. Waiters having finished shift stayed in to play pool & have drinks, something which from my hospitality management background should be avoided. Just young lads having fun, but be more mindful of your audience. We will go back. Can't comment on food, apart from. Saying that there is a festive menu on selected days, being charged at £19.95, which appears to be good value.

We chose the carvery at our 6.30pm Thursday booking. But on requesting a slice of pork and a slice of beef (which was barely only approx 3" square) we were told that "management didn't allow this!" The beef incidently was very tough and chewy! The accompaniments were tired and sad, presumably after being kept warm for a long period prior to our meal. With exception to the carrots, the greens were too crisp for my liking in comparison. I had to spit the roast potatoes out in the end as they were just impossible to chew, and the yorkshires were like tough soggy tasteless cardboard! To round off this extremely poor experience, the gravy was like dishwater and settled in a swimmy pool on the bottom of our plates instead of coating the food as would be expected! We did complain of course, but we're just told "Sorry" and that they've had complaints of tough beef before!!! Altogether a very disappointing experience. A real shame because the place and it's decor were really pleasant! We might go back at some stage to try the menu but will definitely NOT be having the carvery!

Haven’t been here for a few years, as we had had a couple of bad meals, so stopping visiting. Noted the change of management etc, so thought would give it another try. Booked a table for 630 on a Saturday night, and the place wasn’t busy. Starters and mains came up quickly and were all hot, plentiful and tasty. Only quibble is the menu says chips, not the huge ‘wedges’ that were served. Appreciate these are probably made on-site, but would never describe them as chips. Fish was succulent and fellow diners said their gammons were very tasty. However when it came to desserts, this is when it all went wrong and it became a comedy of errors. Took our order, 1 treacle sponge and 2 roulades (1 with cream, 1 with ice-cream) and 1 latte coffee. Returned couple of minutes later to advise they had run out of treacle sponge. Offered the opportunity to order an alternative, but there wasn’t anything else fancied so we cancelled that dessert. Returned again 5 mins later to advise the coffee machine could not make lattes, so did we want to change the order – this was changed to a cappuccino. Returned again 5 mins later to advise the machine couldn’t make cappuccino but they could make a de-caf in the kitchen. This was declined and no replacement ordered. Returned yet again 5 mins later to advise they had no vanilla ice-cream, so did we want cream on that roulade – we agreed. After an additional 15 mins of waiting, we chased up on our desserts, and were advised they wouldn’t be long, and apologies were offered with the reason the kitchen was very busy. We looked around the restaurant – it wasn’t even half full, with only 4 tables appearing to be occupied (which included us). After another 5 mins we asked if the desserts had even been started, because if not, we were cancelling. They hadn’t, so we cancelled the order and asked for the bill. This then had to be returned as we were still being charged for all three desserts and the coffee. So after a promising start, we were left frustrated with the chaos over coffee and desserts. It is such a shame, but we have agreed it would take a lot to tempt us back again.

Very pleasant updated place, we went for 6.30pm meal and chose the £7.95 carvery. Very disappointing to be honest! There were 2 meat choices, but we were challenged when we asked for a slice of each, the chef said he wasn't supposed to offer this??? Unbelievable!!! What difference does it make to their profits? Never come across this before...ever! And to make it worse, the teeny weeny (3"×3")slice of beef was impossibly tough. The accompaniments were very sad and tired, yorkshire puddings were like soggy cardboard and had to be torn apart as the knife couldn't handle it, I had to spit the roast potatoes out in the end because no amount of chewing was working. The veggies were barely cooked and much too crisp for my liking and the gravy, although quite tasty, was so runny, it puddled at the bottom of our plates! The chef admitted that all the lids were keeping the food from view because "it had been a bit of a day" presumably meaning he was trying to keep it warm! (Exactly for just how long, he didn't say) I had to leave most of my meal, and didn't feel at all satisfied! I went for the chocolate peanut butter stack for dessert which was actually very good! If we went back at all, it would be to order from the menu, and definitely avoid the carvery!

The four of us visited today, Sunday 20th October for Sunday lunch and we were not disappointed! My sister lives in the village & mentioned that the establishment has recently changed hands ( taken over by the owners of The Red Lion in Redbourne) & were now serving excellent food. We all decided to have the carvery and the food was absolutely delicious. A choice of 3 meats with superb selection of vegetables, despite our table being booked for 4pm there was still plenty of choice. I lived in the village in the early 80’s and worked as a waitress in the pub dining room here. It was very emotional revisiting the place, with the same warm atmosphere, & wonderfully accommodating and extremely hardworking staff, nothing was too much trouble. The bar staff, waitresses and management were delightful, but in particular a mention for the wonderful Kyle, part of the management team who served us our carvery and was incredibly warm and attentive, ensuring that our every need was catered for. He went to the trouble of arranging a doggy bag for the left over meat etc’ to take home for my sister’s dogs which was incredibly thoughtful and kind! We loved it so much, we have booked again next Sunday lunch to treat our 88 year old Dad who also lived in the village and has fond memories of the pub in the 80’s. Thank you once again to Kyle and his team! What a lovely experience! ❤️👌😊

Not a great experience this Mother’s Day. Arrived and were led straight to our table, but the waitress made several mistakes with our drinks and food orders, then when the bill came we hadn’t been charged according to the Mothers Day special so had to ask for that to be done, at this point we realised we hadn’t received the complimentary presecco for the mums in the group either. The carvery was reasonably good - the meat was a little dry and the roast potatoes were old and stale. The veg was lovely and the stuffing was superb. Deserts weren’t great - the sticky toffee pudding was a square slither of stodge (you could stand the spoon up in it) and the ice cream sundaes were just three scoops of freezer-burnt ice cream with whipped cream on top. The chocolate fudge cake was great. So a mixed bag - some of the food was brilliant, others needed work, and the service was patchy.

We were a party of 10, we decided on a carvery after friends had a great experience themselves. My wife had recently celebrated her 40th birthday, and the meal was to get some of her family together. We rang and booked the table in the week with us being a large party to make sure we could all be sat together. We all decided on the carvery and was told when we could all go up to collect it. The carvery area is a little cramped, but I imagine most parties are table of four where this wouldn’t be an issue, but ten of us queued up meant we had to queue up the corridor. This in itself wasn’t a problem, it just meant to was a little cramped when being served. The food was amazing. Most of us opted for the large plate, two younger ones had the regular plate. We all had plenty of meat. The options were Beef, Turkey and Pork. All were very tasty. Roast potatoes were great. Two choices of stuffing balls, one with cranberry and a meaty version. Again, very nice. Being a veg dodger I didn’t partake, but those that did said it was great, as were the Yorkshire puddings. The staff were very friendly and polite. It had been years since I have been in, but due to our friend recommendation and our recent visit, we will be back again as a family of four in the future. Thank you.

The worst service I have ever experienced. Over 30 minutes for the food to come out, rather greasy and lacking taste. The barman and the waitress spent most of the time talking, we had to interrupt them to get more drinks. Table not cleared and no one came to ask if we wanted dessert. Watched one gentleman having to collect his own cutlery and condiments in order to be able to eat his meal! The waitress and bar staff need a lot of training to provide any form of customer service. This was a shame as the pub could be quite a nice venue.

My partner and I booked a very last minute night away for a much-needed break. Booked Friday evening, and arrived the next day. From the moment i booked, the communication was great. We received confirmation straight away, and a further message confirming our requested check in time. Check in at 2pm was appreciated, giving us more time together being just a one night break. The Wheatsheaf was easy to find. And parking was ample and easy. We were welcomed and shown straight to our room. The room was good. The bed and pillows were particularly comfortable, and the shower was really good- powerful and kept good temperature. A luxury as ours at home isn't great! Room facilities included a TV and tea/coffee making facilties. Bare in mind this is a pub and restaurant with rooms, not a hotel. So go with appropriate expectations. The focus is on the pub and food. That's not to say the rooms aren't good, they are! The food was very good quality. We met the chef, Craig, who appeared proud of his work and took time to tell us about his dishes. We're looking forward to returning to try curry night - Craig told us he was trained by an indian chef and makes a great curry. Looking forward to that on our next visit! On this occasion we had the steak-night deal. We both found our steaks perfectly cooked to our liking and with great accompaniments. The chips were very nice. And the lemon roly poly was amazing ! We stayed on to try the carvery on the Sunday. We were again very happy with this. The homemade Yorkshire puddings and the roast potatoes were highlights for me, along with the homemade gravy. Dave the owner was wonderful and went out of his way for us. The restaurant manager Tracey, who happens to be the wife of chef Craig, organised the restaurant very well. We were seated promptly both times and served served in good time. Wait times for food were good too. We will definitely be returning and would like to thanks all staff. 10/10 food was probably the best I've had for a long time! chef was absolutely fab, came out to explain what was in the foods etc and adapted it to family tastes. Will 100% be returning very soon.

Would highly recommend this country pub, fantastic food, lovely ambiance, landlord and staff thoroughly look after you. If you give the chef a few days warning with a specific request he will try to cater to your needs. We went on quiz night and had

Another fantastic meal at Bournemouth local. We don't eat out regularly but this is a fantastic meal near to home. The staff are friendly and attentive but never hover over you. Great food and brilliant service. Highly recommended.

The Latte was just like hot milk, I couldn’t taste the coffee at all. I asked for another shot, which I was charged for, but it was still too weak. I drink a lot of latte in coffee shops but I’ve never had one this weak.

Friendly staff, good service and plesant sourandings. We normally call in arond lunch time for a breckfast which is reasonable priced and very good. on a nice day you can sit outside by the pool / lake. I think there is a fishing shop and one can fish ? I think they also rent static homes ? you would have to inquire we only pop in for a meal.

Have been multiple times since the new ownership, first time was terrible and I notified the owners as they were new at the time but didn’t leave a review. Been great since until today. Me and my partner (vegetarian) went we ordered soup & sandwich combo (Chicken/Bacon Mayo) and Brie & Cranberry Panini with Chips. Food comes and my sandwich was hot Bacon & Chicken with mayo, but was expecting a cold pre-mixed Chicken & Bacon mayo, but I can deal with that. My partner was about to bite his Panini and thought it didn’t look right so decided to open it and found that it was Bacon & Cranberry with no Brie. We took the plate to the young girl that served us and told them, they took the plate but didn’t get a single apology. And eventually got a replacement when I had nearly finished my food. My partner is vegetarian by choice for over 20 years, however some people are due to health reasons and could cause serious issues. I have been in contact with the owners to pre-warn them of the negative review I’ll be leaving and they have offered an apology and refund. I have declined the refund as we did eat the food eventually received correctly. They also lost out on us ordering desserts and more drinks due to what happened and went elsewhere on the way home. The owners have advised they will be speaking to staff and have made a change on the till to highlight it’s a vegetarian meal so hopefully won’t happen again, but the damage has already been done and will put us off visiting for quite sometime.
