Surprisingly tasty meal with fried chicken, coleslaw and rice with beans. Everything prepared perfectly. It was fun!

Ordered takeaway for something different, had curry goat, and rice and peas. It was excellent and a decent portion.

Why not update your opening times online? And why hang a sign under the CLOSED sign that implies you should be open?

Very tasty food.Very small portions of curry goat , oxtail served in ramekins,seemed a bit stingy. Coleslaw portion even smaller.Half jerk chicken a good portion and beautifully cooked.Rice n peas and the Jollof was good and reasonable sized portions.Beers and cocktails good. Would have given 5 stars but some portions were stingy.Also, add butter beans to the oxtail,and serve in bigger dishes, that will enhance the portion size.Can't knock the taste though,extremely satisfied with that.

Food is amazing people are lovely warm and welcoming.atmosphere amazing and that's while I'm just waiting to collect my order, I get the bus to get my food as just eat or deliveroo don't deliver to my area. I ring before hand to double check they open and ring for my food,,⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

We went on a weekday evening and even though it was only us in there, the takeaway orders were very busy! The food was absolutely divine. We had the curried chicken with rice and peas, curried goat with rice and peas and salt fish starter. All was cooked to perfection. We both walked away ery happy, full and excited to have found a new restaurant that is fairly priced and has quality food. Thank you very much! We will see you very soon 😀

The meal I selected was 100%! Curried goat with rice, plantine coleslaw and salad. Honestly the best Caribbean food I've eaten in ages, and that's speaking as a Caribbean women. My friends and I had dinner there the other day and we enjoyed every minute of it from the service to the meal. The meal was excellent and nuff we couldn’t even finish and the prices are great we had a lovely time I highly recommend WHATAGWAN… so if your a Jamaican and your missing home this is the place to go. Great food Great service Great music.

This restaurant has a little taste of home. The food is amazing, and the quantity of food you receive is above value for money 💰. It's definitely one of the best Jamaican restaurants and bars I've been to thus far. I will definitely be visiting again! 😊

Fantastic Oxtail, and very cheesy mac and cheese. The coleslaw was just like homemade, full of flavour.

No customer service at all, not even a smile. Didn’t listen to what was asked for when ordering. Brought out the wrong items. I asked for little spice and it was ridiculously spicy. It appears the same sauce is used on every dish. Didn’t ask if we liked the food, nothing. Food was ok but I’ve had a lot better else where. Didn’t clear our plates, we must have sat for 15 minutes and we were the only two in the restaurant. When I went to ask for the bill at the bar, again staff were miserable. I won’t be returning. Now I know why this restaurant is never busy. Such a shame because it’s nice to have different cuisine options in Eastbourne.

We had a lovely meal here, the food was amazing and really reasonably priced, Jerk Chicken Wings were delicious, Sea Bass great and the chicken curry was lovely, sweet potato fries were delicious too. The restaurant would benefit from some better, softer more atmospheric lighting, as there was little atmosphere but I'd definitely go here again.

The jerk chicken and curried chicken dishes were delicious, and the portions were generous. The rice and peas was aromatic with spices and the fried plantain was crispy without being greasy. The service was a little slow but we ordered two cocktails and it didn't seem too long before our food arrived. The decor is basic but fresh and reggae music was playing in the background. We wanted to try the Rum cake with vanilla ice cream, but didn't have space left. We will have to come back for that one!

I live in Brighton but I'm coming back! I needed a snack rather than a meal. Had 1/4 fried chicken, Mac and Cheese and a mango punch. Huge piece of chicken with lovely crunchy coating and a side of gravy. You could taste the cheese in the Mac and Cheese unlike many places. Bliss.

Authentic food, good taste and good portion. Very nice rice and peas and curried goat and jerk meats. Good all round.

Mr decided to have oxtail with rice and peas with quarter fried chicken. We did have starters which were spicy chicken wings and temper Prawns. Excellent starters. Jerk sauce fabulous 🤩

Had a lunch date with my wife and I’ve gotta say it. The food was delicious, atmosphere was just calm and the music was hitting the spot. As for the rum punch, I had to order another cause it tasted awesome 😁Would definitely recommend here for a nice lunch date.

My family, extended family and friends that we have introduced to WHATAGWAN has nothing but great things to say. We are so happy that as the only carribean restaurant we have in Eastbourne it happens to be an AMAZING one! I am on my way to trying every dish in the menu and I can honestly say every single one I have tried so far has been so delicious but if I have to choose ONE dish I would highly highly recommend the OXTAIL. I wish they are better located (high street) as I feel they are missing out on most demographic especially as it's the summer. PLEASE COME AND TRY! Oh and all the dishes are reasonably & honestly priced too which is a plus!

Food was very nice. Service very slow. Unfortunately we were overcharged for our cocktails despite challenging the bill when it came. 4 of us had an £8 cocktail but were charged £12.50 each. Unfortunately this has put us off ever returning despite an otherwise pleasant experience

Found this gem by chance and had some of the best Jamaican food we've ever had in England! Amazing flavours with the Jerk Chicken and Steamed Prawns and excellent fritters and soup. All round great experience!

The food here is very good. Have had at least 4 different dishes off the menu and all were excellent. If they could get more customers through the door to create an atmosphere it would be even better!

Ordered curry goat, salt fish fritters and plantain....wasn’t impressive nor enjoyable.

Jerk chicken is amazing. Saltfish fritters are delicious. I wish I knew what was in the dip. Everyone loved their meals. Great atmosphere.

This place was the bomb. Such a nice atmosphere and beautiful decor. Lots of variety on the menu, delicious food and as an African I can confirm even tho it’s a Jamaican restaurant the jollof was amazing. The fruit punch was also so so good, it doesn’t come with alcohol but i ordered a shot of wray on the side to pour in and they went together very well. Such a cute hidden gem, will be definitely be coming again.

Hands down the most flavourful food I’ve have in Eastbourne. Goat curry and oxtail is so tender and juicy. Every time I leave so full! Drinks and service are also great!

OH MY GOD!! This is the BEST restaurant in Eastbourne hands down. First of all, the chicken wings were juicy and crispy - one of the best wings I’ve ever had. The curry’s and all the sides were delicious. And the staff were super friendly and kind. The oxtail and goat curry was tender and full of flavour. Will come again for sure. You MUST come and try!!

Me and my mum popped over to Eastbourne in the hopes of trying this restaurant. We were able to get a seat, and the waiting staff were friendly but unintrusive. Mum had the curry goat, which came in a tardis-like pot - didn't look like much until poured onto the plate, where you then realised it was huge! We got rice and sides between us, and I got the fried seabass. The lady kindly warned me that it came whole with the head on (no problem here) and would take a while as cooked fresh. It was absolutely amazing! Just the right amount of seasoning, and the crispiest skin I've ever had, while the flesh was soft and moist. Honestly one of the best sea bass meals I've ever had, and so reasonable! All the food was a great price and we ate like queens! I would love to see some more vegetable (especially okra-based)sides on the menu, and perhaps some choice in amount of chili - I would have liked more with the fish but it no way impacted my enjoyment of it.

Had the most delicious jerk chicken and curried goat from here - can't recommend it highly enough - great food, good portion size and good value too. They even went out of their way to get our food ready for us for when they opened at 12.30.

Found this restaurant by accident and what a gem! Service was friendly and timely, food well packaged for take away, delicious and generous portions, will definitely be going back to try dine in experience.

The food was tasty. As a fellow business owner, hopefully constructive feedback, more beans in the rice and less dry. A little salad on the side or fresh coleslaw would be a nice touch. Could do a £12 lunch special (meat, rice and a drink) to drum up lunchtime trade? Would have been nice to hear classic Reggae music playing. On the delivery sites, advertise under both Jamaican and Caribbean sections, as I was originally looking for Caribbean in Eastbourne and could not find anything. Best of luck, great place!

Too much money. Too little low quality food. Was very excited but unfortunately the meat was dry and £15 for a small box of lamb and nothing else was dissatisfaction across the table. The patty was pretty good but just needed more inside , very thin layer of mead and sauce. Maybe it was an off day for them but it was a shame.

Best Caribbean food! Great portion sizes, flavours are amazing! Staff are lovely. Goat curry and jerk chicken is a must!!!

Fabulous authentic food, very reasonably priced for the quality and amount you get! One of our go to favourites in Eastbourne!

Fantastic 10/10 authentic food that's also dead-cheap for what you are buying. Would recommend a main with a side of rice and plantain! Atmosphere is lovely, nice and colourful and music is appropriately Carribbean! Only downside is real low energy from the staff. No smiles, and I had to get up and ask the waitress, who was on her phone to take me and my girlfriend's order, despite the fact that we were the only two in the actual venue that evening. Beyond that, would deffo recommend to couples and families alike for a new restaurant outing! Hope this place does well.

Visiting from London and we passed by and saw this restaurant and decided to try, We had Fry fish, bammy,plantain, fry dumplings,salad. The food was excellent tastes and presentation. The staff and chef/owner were very welcoming and helpful. Well worthy the money will definitely come back when in the area.

Nice place ,the TV was very loud with a film on....not a nice atmosphere, no music on.

Had lunch here and it was wicked. The little princess that works there makes the place welcoming for all. Could not fault the food at all. The fried wings remind you of when KFC was good. The jerk was a 1st for me and it certainly won't be the last. The dam ting nice.

This Restaurant is a small diamond in Eastbourne. Jerk chicken so good my lips still tingled afterwards. Goat curry was also brilliant. Great atmosphere and staff plus chef. Well worth a visit will definitely be back.

We ate in the restaurant for our anniversary last night and had the Jerk lamb, sweet potato chips, plantene. The food was SO GOOD it tastes so fresh and its well priced. My only down point would be that the green salad is very small and priced the same as the sweet potato chips. I recommend a trip here either eat in or takeaway.

Just had a fab lunch with my hubby.. crispy fried prawns to start were superb..😋. Curried goat and Jollof rice.. omg! amazing flavours.. hubby had 1/2 jerk chicken with fries also delicious.. lovely service from a lovely guy.. defo recommend 👍👍

Had a lovely lunch here today and very reasonably priced. Curried goat was anazing.along with the deep fried prawns (could eat more of them). I had the spicy chicken but the sauce was not spicy and not to my liking but personally I cannot tolerate anuyhjg too spicy. The Peanut shake was amazing, I loved that. Would recommend
