Whalley Road Chippy in Ribble Valley

...to a perfect 16mile bike ride through the idyllic Pendle/ Clitheroe villages. Great fish and chips eaten in lovely late sunshine by the river at Edisford Bridge, 5 mins cycle away - gorgeous. Fish and chips is not a cheap tea anymore but this was a good portion ( which would probably have fed two older appetites)....so good value and especially lovely fish. Excellent and pleasant service too. Highly recommended.

Called in for a easy lunch on are way back from shopping, their was only myself in the shop and I ordered fish and chips twice chips and gravy, two cartons of gravy and one carton of mushy peas. The two men behind the counter just didn’t seem bothered to serve me, I think I was in around 40 minutes, I asked 1 of the men what was the hold up and he didn’t answer. The fish and chips were good but the chips and gravy were leftovers and they were cold and soggy. I’ll have to be desperate to call again.

From out of the area we just passed through looking for a chippy stoped here fish chips an peas sausage chips and curry chips peas whole family enjoyed it all fresh to order. Shame we live so far away but will definetly call again when in the area food was lovely thanku

Very slow but everything cooked to order. We ordered 8 fish and chips including one Gluten free. Whilst the service was slow at least as the fish were cooked they were placed on their side to reduce grease content. All the fish and chips were excellent particularly the Gluten free one.

After taking my order only 2 people I front of me I actually waited 45 mins for my food I was on the verge of asking to cancel the 2 trays of chips. The 2 assistants well 1 of the girls seemed to be doing everything other one clueless. The man owner I guess was quite abrupt with them. On getting then we got our order and the food was vile my husband now feels quite unwell. I threw mine away we won’t ever go again. The shop was total chaos.

Fish and chips were excellent the Gluten free fish was very well cooked and the batter was excellent and crisp.

Along with family and friends, i have visited this fish and chip shop regularly over the past three years. The food is absolutely delicious, In all honesty I’ve never tasted better fish and chips. You can tell by the taste the care that is put into the cooking. The customer service is excellent, and you are always greeted with a smile. I highly recommend visiting them.

Poor fish and chips. Incredibly rude man who owns it. Swore in front of my children. Don’t bother going. There are much better fish and chip shops in clitheroe.

Travelled from blackburn for the fish and chips, was absolutely mouth watering. Suitable for halal diets too. Brilliant customer service.

Bought fish and chips for myself the batter was slimy and under cooked. Got sausage and chips for kids the sausages had a funny off taste and chips where burnt but soggy! Which suggest they have been sat around for ages. The whole lot went in the bin worst chippy i have ever seen! As a chef myself i find it hard 2 understand how someone could serve that crap to customers

Well, I had a chip shop in Yorkshire in the 1970s for a time, tutored by a Blackpool man, from the fish friers federation. I love haddock, cooked with lard as in Bradford etc. OK, no dripping in Lanky. But, having pre-ordered I thought that "fish cooked to order", as two 5star reviews state that, they would be nice and juicy and tasty! No! They were removed from the heating cabinet above the frying pans; four there when I entered and two left, when we obtained our order; having had to stay outside per China Crisis [Good group] COVID regs. Now, if it had been explained, hence the dryness of the fish, I would have accepted them. The chips, by the way, made I would guess with new potatoes, even after being carried home, via a late bus, were very good. Overall, the service was very good and the staff were very amenable, but a little honesty would go a long, long way.

I often visit this fish and chip shop as it is quite simply the best in town. The fish is cooked to order and can rival any restaurant. It makes my mouth water just thinking of it. Great value and excellent food.

Called in as last minute decision and so good we made a plan to visit the following week, will be our first choice when in Clitheroe again

Whilst caravanning in the area we were recommended to visit this chippies. We were not disappointed. Very clean chippie and friendly staff and the fish and chips were superb with very large portions. This has got to be one of if not the best chippie in Clitheroe. Just wished there was a chippie as good in Blackpool where we live but more interested in profit here instead of quality. No hesitation in recommending this chippies to anybody.

Called in early one evening as wanting a quick supper takeaway and found friendly efficient staff and good options available including gluten free fish (cooked to order when you enter) and best of all great tasting fish, chips and peas - result!Excellent value and would really recommend.

I have been a couple of times and the food is ok. This time the gravy was extremely salty, so much that I couldn't eat it and the haddock (they had no cod) was overcooked and dry. Chips were nice.

Been here a few times food is quite good ,but is getting a little expensive,as most chips shops are,these days.

We were visiting the area for the weekend and were looking for a Fish and Chip shop and although is doesn't look much from the outside and not a lot of parking, the fish and chips were very good. The fish was cooked to order so really fresh, hot and tasty.

Ordered the fish and chips and it was all cooked from fresh. Had to wait around 10 minutes but definitely worth the wait. The fish was crispy on the the outside and soft and flaky on the inside. The chips where lovely and fresh not soggy like when they have been out a while. Definitely coming again.

The Whalley Road Chippy was a real find. It definitely deserves five stars. My husband, who is quite particular, said the fish was the best he had ever tasted. It was great value for money too, and lots of choice on the menu. Highly recommended.

On a busy road, popular at tea-time, people coming in and out, but my food was only lukewarm. On street parking, no steps, friendly service.

brilliant food as always and building has been repainted. Food great and the business looks fabulous ☺ he's also had new up to date menus made as well and a new, more clearer menu board inside the shop so alot easier to choose from. Everything is all clean as always, and the owner was telling me he's recently had his yearly food higiene inspection, which he passed with flying colours and is still a 5* rated business. Love coming to this chippy when in the area, it's definitely the best.

We arrived just as they closed although the door was not locked. When we told them we had come especially for gluten free fish and chips they stayed open just for us and prepared our order. We chatted to them about how they manage their gluten free regime and were completely reassured and best of all the fish and chips were delicious - thanks guys!

No, al menos su alabanza, y debido sin duda retraso aquí. Pescado suaves, patatas fritas bien que en realidad no estábamos nadando en grasa. No tengo más que decir.

Elegí este "fish and chips", basado en los comentarios mencionados. He de decir que no a estas críticas. Aunque la comida estaba recién hecha, la masa de pescado era plana y correosos, no crujiente como la que se muestra en las imágenes. Las patatas fritas eran similares. En el lado positivo, algunos inusuales, como opciones de menú, calamares y tailandés pasteles de pescado. El personal era muy amable y servicial, si no un poco desorganizado. No sé si esto sólo fue un mal día. Creo que parte del problema es el embalaje, cajas de poliestireno de aquellos alimentos y hacer que el sudor se pone pasada. He estado en una tienda de chips que utiliza cajas de cartón y esto hace que la comida más fresca y secadora.

Desde una ubicación de puerto no hacerlo para mí. Patatas fritas, masa crisping necesita es pobre, el pescado es estándar que ofrece comodidad congelados. Puede ser bien si vas a salir del pub a las 11:00 pm.

I asked for a meal deal but there was no need as this chippy offers great deals anyway. Good way to be. Actually thought that was closed as it seemed so dark when I passed. But i stopped and popped in. Glad I did. Great value. Good portions. Tasty chips and sausage and curry sauce. Chips have a nice colour. Not too limp either. Firm and fluffy. Well done.

had haddock and chips this time with curry sauce. The haddock was cooked fresh while I waited and had to say well worth the wait! So tasty and with curry sauce on, lovely and highly recommend as always.

Second visit and again cannot fault the food. Freshly cooked while I sat and read the paper. The staff are very polite. The prices are very reasonable and I was again able to park outside the shop. 100% recommended. It was on Friday evening and although there was a queue, there were plenty of staff on.

Recently visited this chippy after hearing great things and wasn't disappointed. The place was spotless, serving great fresh food. All reasonably priced and served by efficient friendly staff. Highly recommended if you are looking for authentic 'British' fish and chips. Will definitely be visiting again!!

First time in this chippy since change of ownership and I wasn't disappointed! The fish was absolutely perfect and the chips nice and hot and freshly cooked. Nice friendly staff who offer gluten free food if wanted and children's favourites like chicken nuggets etc. I think the opening hours are longer now, and I will definitely be calling in again!

Very friendly staff. The food was so fresh and tasty. Fast and thorough service. Parking spaces outside the shop or up the street across the road. Highly recommended. It's opening hours have been extended to all day too. 11.30 till 8pm Mon to Saturday. I will definitely be going back again. And they have gluten free too.

the first time in London I ate a fish & chips , honestly I did not like so much . instead in a small town like Clitheroe I tasted the best fish & chips . the staff was friendly , qualified , educated . Fish , chips and peas cream delicious .the master of Fish & Chips .recommended

Hi we have been here a few times and travel half an hour to get here because their fish and chips are simply the best in the ribble valley. They also do wonderful gluten free as well so it suits mum to the ground. Everything is of the highest freshest standard and cookedc frsh to order , not sat standing luke warm like most other chippys. The staff and owner cannot do enough for you. Keep up the excellent work, we are going back later today for lunch

Called in this Tuesday teatime 8th Sept. The chips came off a flat metal tray and had obviously been warmed up from dinner time left overs. They were greasy and not very nice to eat and my wife and I had to leave them and throw away. Sorry to tell you this as you have always provided a very good meal. Why save leftover chips to serve later when it puts at risk your reputation and threatens a loss of custom.

Went here for chippy tea pleasant staff 2 on front counter a man and young girl friendly and helpful.most food cooked to order so had to wait a bit.chips were lovely cooked and hot and curry sauce just right.only small so people cant get in and have to stand outside waiting.funny opening times hardly open but popular.first visit here as we were staying nearby

Visited here yesterday eve for our tea, been before & never had any complaints, the only reason I haven't given 5stars is because of the waiting time (I appreciate everything is made fresh to order, but its just no good waiting 20 mins if ur in a rush) perfect chips and fish and the spud pie was exceptionally good and rather large! Defo go again, just not if I'm in a hurry :D

We called for a fish & chips takeaway tea. Fish was good and we were offered a choice of cod or haddock (rare these days). Nice chips. Enjoyed our meal.

Best puddings i have had in a long time and would recommend everytime, the only reason i haven't given 5 stars is when you only have puds and gravy/curry then by time you get it home the sauces are all over the wrapping,maybe my fault, next time i will get them separately!

It had taken us years to find a fantastic chippy, bit on the expensive side, but always served with a smile and tasty. The last few visits we took advantage of the phone order system, so your wait ( SHOULDN'T ) be as long. However, regardless of the time of pick up, still having to wait around 10-15 mins. The last telephone order I made was to eat just before we set off on holiday. Our order was taken and time given for 7pm and order number. On arrival the chipshop was jam packed. I gave my order number and waited and waited. The lady owner then shouted out for all the customers to hear, there was no order 3 and I must have phoned a different chip shop ????!!!!. I was a bit flummaxed and knew I had made my order with Aldo. He then recalled my call, but must have misplaced and asked for the order again. I was left waiting just over 25 mins when we needed to dash off to travel through the night. over £25 was spent and no apology given for their mistake or for the wait. If you have a telephone order system this should be honoured, otherwise cancel it. We won't go again, I was left embarrased and was delayed.

I have been coming here since the 1970's when it was Freddie Bush's and successive owners have turned out good food. Aldo and his wife, Olga couldn't be more friendly and welcoming and their fish and chips is consistently excellent. We are regular customers coming here weekly and can't recommend it highly enough.

Very good fish & chips. This small take away has won awards - and if you try it you will see and taste why.They cook the fish to order so it can be a bit slow, but it is worth waiting for.Good portion sizes, great flavour. Worth driving past a chip shop or two to get to.Very highly recomended

They have a best chip shop award and is cheap if you find others expensive. If you're there and are bored, ask about the onion on the counter. It's always there!

Firstly and most importantly, the chips are always great. Secondly, the cheese and onion pie is unbeatable.I went there on a recommendation and I'm not going anywhere else when I want chips.Nice staff too.

This is the best chippy for miles around. Every time we go there the food is excellent and a very friendly service too. The fish is always freshly cooked and the batter so crispy and fragrant it melts in your mouth. The chips are always properly cooked and good size portions. they offer a wide variety of things that you will not find in other chippies like a foot long sausage or a rag pudding that my son loves so much. also very nice curry , gravy and proper mushy peas.They have recently introduced an outdoor sitting area with few tables and chairs in the side garden. Sometimes there is a bit to wait for your food, but we really don't care because it is always worth it.Highly Recommended !

Visited on several occasions, but only go if we have to.The portion sizes seem to have diminshed over time and the quality is not as good.This chippy was really good years ago, but it seems to be going in the wrong direction.For 8 pounds more I can take my family to a Fish & Chip Restaurant in Colne where we can have drinks included, waitress service, and the quality is brilliant.Oh, and the photo on the description is not this chippy !

I think that they serve the best fish and chips in Clitheroe. The food is always cooked fresh, you are asked if you want fish as you enter and it is put in the fryer there and then. Only once in several years of visits have they not had my choice of fish. Definitely worth a visit.

Although the food maybe good I stopped going here because half the time they didnt have whatever I ordered, i always seemed to be getting my second choice. The chippy on Waddington rd is just as good and they always have what is on their menu.

You can tell somewhere is good when there are people waiting and nobody minds waiting. You go in and order and the food is cooked to order - mainly because as soon as it's cooked, it's wrapped up and out of the door! The chips are well cooked, as are the fish with a crisp, well flavoured batter. This is a great chippy and well worth a visit.

We moved from the south 10 years ago, and was under the impression that the north had the best fish and chips, but having visited all the take aways in Clitheroe we found the best Fish and Chips in the area was at The Calfs head in Worston, and found this very odd.In recent years new owners at Whalley Road Chippey have brought the quality back up to standard, producing light crsipy batter, wrapped arround suculent fish, and the chips are perfect, lovely savory ( not sweet) crsipy chips, just what the taste busds are expecting.If you want takeaway fish and chips in Clitheroe, Whalley Chippy is the place to go.
